Logic9/SnowLeopard: Should I stay or should I go?
Here I am, sitting on the fence and trying to read something out of the mayhem.
I have a brand new computer, currently equipped with Leopard (10.5.8), and Logic 9.
I have just about installed my favourite tools, but not more than about 300GB...and I plan to keep this my studio computer, so I won't install too much rubbish on it except for audio stuff.
So this is the right time, I guess, to decide: Should I go for Snow Leopard with my Logic9 installation? Or should I backpaddle to Logic8 on Leopard for a while, waiting for Logic 9 to "stabilize"?
I hear bad things, and I hear good things, but there seems to be a common experience that Logic9 with SnowLeopard works well, but people are having issues with mixing Logic9 and Leopard, or mixing Logic8 and Snow Leopard.
Anyone else the same feeling?

Maybe I was unclear, but I am currently using OSX 10.5.8, and Logic9.
I have not had time to test the setup during as many hours as I'd like, so I can't tell whether it is stable yet.
The one thing I see, is every time I open a project (all of them created with Logic8), a dialog opens, saying: "Could not create new user preset file". The best part is the buttons on that dialog: Yes, no and cancel
I'll give it a few weeks and see how annoyed I get.
My gut feeling is also to wait out SnoLep a little, but I got my free upgrade and it's lying there looking all nice and shiny and with that cute cat on it...

I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. I dried it and shook out as much water as I could. I removed the SD card and put everything in a bowl of rice. It is still in there and everything appears to be working normally, but it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. I have Logic Pro 8.0.2 and would like to upgrade. I'm running OS Lion on a 2010 MacB Pro. What is the best option? Logic Pro 9 App or Logic Studio? Can't find upgrade price. Or should I just stay with Logic 8?
Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.

Why am I having so many issues, should have stayed...
Hi all, I had infinity installed last month with a promised 55/20 upload download, the first installation guy came fitted it and left and my speeds were awful, a week later another engineer came from BT and re did all the previous engineers work, after not getting any better speed increase he went away shaking his head, he said I was synced at 54mbps at the router but I'm only getting 12mbps d/l and 5.5mbps u/l on a good day, BT contacted me by phone and replaced my router to the home hub type B, and still no speed increase this was two weeks ago and the promised return call has not arrived, what is going on? i have totally new BT wiring in the house a new home hub expected speeds of 55/20 and I'm not near that at any time of the day or night, weather I'm the only one using the Internet or not, where do i go from here ?
As a side note with sky my samsung galaxy s2 would always keep hold of the wireless signal now it drops it all the time and I'm incurring more data charges, the same goes for the wife's iphone5, laptops etc are not affected,

Have to agree, I am about 450/500metres away from the cabinet and stiil advised that I should get 58Mb. If you are only 100m away from the cabinet you should/would be getting more that what you state .

Mac user, PS CC 2014 latest version. When using "Save for Web" I bring my 900 x600px @72 ppi in to SFW and the output becomes 300ppi. The only way it stays at 72ppi is if I check "none" for metadata. I know to should not matter much, but I would prefer to keep all my web jpgs @ 72ppi. Any solutions?

What in the name of Goodness have you done with the full screen picture of Contacts? How dare you just change it without so much as a bye or leave? This is NOT progress but a throwback to about 1997! I supposedly 'updated' to an iPhone two weeks ago. Should have stayed with Samsung I reckon. I am deeply unimpressed!

When I go to
System Preferences > Network > "Click the lock to make changes",...
It is ALWAYS UNLOCKED.
That is even if I have locked it before the last shutdown.
Should it not stay locked until I unlock it again as administrator?

Is 8gb worth it for the new 13" Retina MBP? or should i stay at 4gb?
So im planning on buying the new retina MBP. Really not sure if 8gb is worth it or if i should stay at 4gb. I plan on using this as my main computer for School and Home.

Back when it was possible to add memory yourself starting out with the minimum and adding more memory if you needed it was the way to go but now you're stuck with what you buy and if you undersize the memory you will not be happy with the system.

IDVD stability is not good, *many* crashes, should I stay or should I go?
OK, I seem to be just the latest to rant on this topic, but I've got a brand new MacBook Pro, with 10.6.2, and if iDVD stays running for more than 10 minutes without crashing I'm doing well. Unlike other posters, I've not yet had a crash while burning. The trouble for me is getting to the point where I'm ready to burn. Just the most basic manipulation of buttons, sometimes just setting text, or placing the button on the page will often result in a crash. I'm now to the point where I save after just about every gesture. Not good!
Apple, was this thing tested?
BTW, my experience with iMovie has been a little better, but not much. Many crashes, but fortunately not quite as often.
Apple community at large, should I give up on these apps? Am I going to just be endlessly frustrated? Are there new versions in the works? Or at least some serious updates?
Thanks for reading to the end!The problems I've seen here relate to people updating to Snow Leopard from Leopard or earlier. SL is pretty much a complete rewrite, so I'm not surprised that some folks have problems. Another problem I've seen relates to people who install there own hard drive because there seem to be some EFI firmware issues.
Really, I think it's just buggy software.
I've seen nothing to support that supposition. Like I said, everything works great for MANY of us.

Did you install QuickTime 7 from the install DVD? (It goes in your Utilities folder). I'm not a big fan of QuickTime X when working with some video formats.
I don't have that much video in my current projects (few hundred Gig)
Actually, a few HUNDRED GIGS sounds like a lot to me. Where is it stored? If its all on your internal hard drive you may be having problems with scratch space.
Did you go for the 7200 rpm hard disk drive option (like I did)? -
iPad syncing stays on step 5 of 5 “waiting for items to copy” but does not copy anything... should I restore the iPad?
Hey, I was having the same problem,, i just got mine to work. Take off everything but your apps (meaning take off pictures, music, ringtones, movies, tv shows, etc just leave on the apps) Then go up to the top and go to Store and turn off Genius. Restore your iPhone (It'll ask you to back up, click yes.) Restore from back up, Let your apps come back then when those are done add each category one by one. (i.e. click Photos -> Sync Photos and let them finish, then click something else like music) Hope this helps!

CS4 Should I Stay or should I Go ?
I am having a difficult time to decide if I should stay with Dreamweaver as my WYSIWYG editor for web development.
I am still quite new to the whole Dynamic website development but am well experienced in Visual Basic
I have been using Dreamweaver MX (I know its dated) and learning it from a old book I had on DW Mx
I have discovered that ASP is dead or on its way out and ASP.NET is quickly becoming the new standerd for back end web development logic and bowser indepentent websites. Sooo.....
My Problem is this:
I recently found out that CS4 as dropped ASP.NET all together (for the most part) and that CS3 only has ASP.NET 1.1 support. I really like the Dreamweaver IDE because it is very nice for doing front end design and easy too. However I am not going to switch to PHP or JAVA stuff for back end dev I know and like .NET enviroment (somewhat) and wish to stay with that technology so am I better off droping Dreamweaver all together and going with MS Visual Studio or MS Expression or is there a way that I can keep Dreamweaver (which I would like) and still be able to do the ASP.NET stuff in a different program and than just add it to my Dreamweaver stuff when its ready. I don't know if Dreamweaver will allow you to marry stuff done in ASP.NET with other software to stuff developed in Dreamweaver or not and even if it does I am unsure this is practical perhaps I am better off just dumping Dreamweaver.

VR FoxmanI guess I wasn't as clear as I thought I was being. Expression Web like Dreamweaver is more of a front-end design program with some light server side tools in it. You don't really write server side code that much in either one since Code Completion (DW) and Intellisense (EW) basically give you syntax highlighting and some properties but neither are the best choice for serious back-end development. EW lets you interact with the ASP.NET 2.0/3.5 controls. Dreamweaver CS 3 has limited ASP.NET 1/1.1 support which have different capabilities and require a different application pool from 2.0/3.5. You shouldn't mix the two because they really aren't that compatible. Besides the ASP.NET 1/1.1 code output is pretty bad while 2.0/3.5 can be as clean as you have the knowledge to make it.
I don't think it matters much which version of Dreamweaver you when it comes to ASP.NET because you shouldn't rely on any Dreamweaver dotnet controls/appications. What support that is available in CS3 is ASP.NET 1/1.1 and it isn't compatible with ASP.NET 2.0 which is what most hosting is running. Besides ASP.NET 1.0/1.1 is a typical first release product and many of the things have been fixed in 2.0. ASP.NET 3.5 is primarily the Windows Presentation Foundation toolset running on top of 2.0 which is still used for underlying processing so those are what you typically find together in hosting.
There are other benefits from moving to CS 4 from CS 3 but working with dotnet isn't one of them and shouldn't influence the decision on which version to use.
You should spend some time over at http://asp.net in their beginner tutorials because code behind doesn't run in script tags but rather in separate cs or vb files. VB.NET is absolutely nothing like the Visual Basic you are familiar with. My partner has had a difficult time moving from VB to VB.NET as a result. Far more than I had since I used only VBScript. Many of the Classic ASP users I know have migrated to PHP instead of of moving to dotnet for that reason. The structure and methods are closer between ASP & PHP than they are between dotnet and classic ASP. So you might want to experiement a little with both VB.NET and PHP before you commit completely. Get the free Visual Web Developer Express for testing dotnet and use Dreamweaver for testing out PHP.
After you have a handle on which is really a better choice for you then you are in a better position to know how to proceed. -
Xfce seems to wake up an USB drive, when it should stay asleep

A brand new WD Elemets does spin up and down again and again, it's neither the drive's nor the kernel's fault. When not running a Xfce session the device spins down after 30 minutes and keeps sleeping.
"noatime" or "relatime" can't be disabled by fstab, since the partitions aren't mounted by it and the drive anyway spins up and down again and again, when no partition is mounted.

I wonder how I should test something, if I don't know what to test? That's why I ask for help.
Another solution might be, to know how to open and close the case, without damaging anything. Has somebody ever opened and closed the case of a WD Elements?

RalfThere are many SSD related tips in the latest release of Computer Power User magazine. Look in the October 2010 issue starting on page 31.
Secure erase the SSD before first use using a tool like HDD Erase.
Apply all firmware updates before you load the operating system. Recheck for new updates.
Set the sata controller to ACHI.
Do not use a pre_VISTA system to partition the SSD.
Overprovision the SSD by leaving 10 GB available for recovery from dirty states.
Stay current with sata controller updates being released by the manufacturer.
Check to see if trim is active. Open a command prompt and enter: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify --> 0 is OK
Don't use drive indexing on the SSD.
The above tips may not solve your problem but eliminating them as possibities may help in narrowing down possibilities.

Firefox jumps from tab group to tab group when tab is closed. Why? It should stay in the same tab group.
Is it bug? In any case it is very inconvenient.Ahh. Thanks. That seems like a bit of a hassle though. If I were to create more tabs in the group, would I have to re-bookmark all the tabs?
