  • Syncing Logic and DP

I am trying to get logic to trigger Digital Performer using 2 seperate computers. The reason for this is that I need to use Atmosphere on a project and Atmosphere drivers are not Intel ready yet. I am running logic into a MOTU traveller - and taking the midi out of that into the midi in of a MOTU fastlane which is plugged into the second computer where DP resides. DP does start running when triggered, however the clocks are about 1/4 beat off, and DP starts at bar 1900 instead of bar 1. I am using MTC as the trigger- Help!

    Ok thanks.
I got it to sync up now but something is weird. It seems to drift off every so slightly.
I heard it may have to do with the frame rate being set to 30.
Is this correct? Where do I change that?
    Thanks much.

  • Carrying case for my laptop and MOTU Traveler?

I bought my MOTU Traveler for the portability. Does anyone know of a good, protective carrying case for my MacBook Pro and my MOTU?

I have the same gear. I just use the Incase neoprene zipbags. (from the apple store, about $30 each.) I got the 17" laptop case to fit my MOTU Traveler. Works great for me.

  • ESS for travel management

    Hello Gurus ,
Pls help me with this : Is there a logic in ESS for travel management that allows for substitutions like in MSS (i.e. a manager goes on vacation, and needs someone else to approve expense reports in his place ) , does similar logic holds place in ESS when Employee wants to create Travel Expense Report and et al activities for other employee .
Can this be done in ESS Portal ?

  • Korg Triton versus Logic-Pro 7

Genklag

I can't answer the question, but I will take a stab at the translation. Genklag, mon francais n'est plus parfait, alors, je vous donne mes excuses en avance...
Just bought a G5 dual 2 g proc. with Logic Audio Pro 7 and an RME Fireface 800. My Korg Triton Pro X isn't recognized by Logic (at least it doesn't show up in the logic [startup?] menu). What do I need to do to use the [internal?] sounds in my Korg Tri.Pro X? Do I need to download something or get another driver? I'm inclined to keep both Logic and the Korg, but if they are incompatible (or if one way or another everything will just crash every two seconds) I will need to get rid of one or the other... And apparently the manufacturer of each unit is at odds with the other as usual (now that I have bought everything...! including two 23" mac dislplays etc...) Does someone have and answer or have I just made a big mistake?

  • Modern Macbook Appropriate for Logic?

    Hello,
I was just wondering if you guys could help me out with a few questions.
Because of certain professional changes in my career I've had to take my studio on the
road and I'm in the process of purchasing a laptop to do so.
I run Logic Pro and use a Apogee Ensemble for most projects but I'm thinking of getting
a Duet to help with portability.
Does anybody use Logic Pro with a current Gen. Macbook?
If so, how does it perform?
Also, I know I would need an external HD to record anything substantial.
Does daisy-chaining hurt performance much? (The MacBook only has one Firewire Port)
And finally, how does the Duet perform while recording to the internal Drive?
    Thank you very much.
    -FTIWL

    FTIWL,
Since December, the school I teach at has deployed around 400 MacBooks with full installs of Logic Studio to all incoming students. We've done extensive in house testing of this combination, not to mention we've had the benefit of several hundred students putting this combination through its paces. I can assure you that MacBook has more the enough capability for the vast majority of Logic users. I travel a lot as a Logic trainer, and I personally use this same configuration for the classes I teach as well as the production work I do while I'm on the road.
As for the firewire drive, you my be surprised at what you can do off of the internal drive. Without details of your typical workflow it's difficult to guide you, but since you mentioned the Apogee Duet (I've been using one for the last 6 months) my assumption is that you're not planning on punching in 128 tracks of an orchestra at 96kHz;-) I can tell you that overdubbing mono or stereo recordings to a 40+ track session on the internal drive is quite realistic, and Duet works wonderfully for this application. In fact I just did a training event last week with 26 stations that all used Duets on MacBook Pros, and we used nothing but the stock internal drive. I can't remember if those MacBook Pros had the 7200rpm drives or not, but I always test my lesson plans out on my computer which is a stock 5400rpm drive. My recommendation is to not worry about the firewire drive until you run into a situation where you need one. Also, keep in mind that a nice thing about the MacBook is that it's simple to replace the internal drive, so upgrading to a 7200rpm drive is a cost effective option down the road.
    Hope this helps!

  • Lessons in the state of Iowa

    Hey,
I'm completely new to Logic and have been trying to learn it on my own from an instructional DVD, but am having problems learning it this way. I would like to find someone to learn from. I can not find schools near the area of Des Moines, IA. I have talked to people who own studios in the area who agreed to teach me in exchange for cash and then they quit answering my calls before any money was exchange or lessons were given. I haven't found anyone on this site on the registry who is certified in Logic in Iowa. Traveling out of state is not an option because I am currently in college here. I would like to become certified eventually. I am using/have purchased Logic Studio. Any tips or suggestions? Or is there anyone in the area who would be willing to help me learn and prep for the certification tests? Thanks for reading.

In order to call Israel landline you need a subscription from Skype, which you already have, but yes, you don't need a mobile operator to use Skype in WiFi zone. Same app is used on iPod Touch that doesn't support GSM calls over mobile operators, but it works with Skype since it can use WiFi.
Something similar to Tango and Viber, but as far as I know Viber doesn't let you call landline/mobile numbers, only other Viber members.

  • Which table contains user name

    Dear all,
For certain travel expense(T-Code:TRIP), I would like to know who created it and checked table PTRV_HEAD, but it seems no corresponding field exist.  would anyone help me?
    thanks,
    Ben Wu

    Hi Ben,
The process of travelling starts with <b>Planning</b>. It is expected that every employee would plan for their own trip, except probably for Bosses whose Secretaries/PA have been given authorisation to enter trip plans on behalf of their bosses in the system. Therefore, it may be safe to assume that the <b>Creator</b> would be the field PERNR - Personnel Number.
Because HR module uses the concept of <b>Infotypes</b>, the creator (PERNR) would be the same as <b>Last Change by</b> (UNAME) when the plan for a trip is first entered into the system. So, the logic you are going to use in your program depends on what you are trying to achieve. The tables listed earlier are the main ones used in the Logical Database selection for Travel Management. If you display each of the tables, you would be able to see other <b>check tables</b> used to validate some of the entries in this tables.
I hope the above helps to clarify some issues.
Do not forget to award the points please.

    Jacob

  • Need your ears for a moment

    Hi all,
I was wondering if the pros out there who understand guitar recording might be willing to lend me their ears for a moment. I did an acoustic guitar track yesterday using the ORTF method, mics about 8" away from the guitar, and I like what it sounds like (which I know is probably the most important thing) but would like an opinion from the opinionated and critical on this list.
So if you have a moment to lend, please email me to the address on my profile and I will post the acoustic guitar track for you to listen to. I won't post the whole song, it will get repetitive but a selection of parts.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I am curious to hear the results of your recording. ORTF is really a room technique for live tracking, eg. in a concert hall. At 8" distance from the source, and 110 degrees for ORTF, your signal will mainly comprise off-axis colouration. The trade-off is that it has a good chance of having a more balanced spectrum. The caveat here is the room. Was this done in a big room? Iso booth? Concert hall?
The other consideration is the mix. If it is solo, the situation is much easier. What else will be in this mix?
I would suggest mid/side for a good stereo balance in closer situations . If you are using a pair of 414s, as I do, I can guarantee good results. M/S has perfect mono capability, and might even be a good idea for a mix of several instruments, depending on what how much room sound you are looking for for each instrument.
In the end, the two most important factors will be 1) the room sound you are looking for, and 2) the mix you intend to create.

  • Need an expert here please !

Im realy not happy how logic behave with my traveler...
when i playback a track now ( today) I get a beep folowed by an error message saying : error while trying to sync audio with midi. this happened a few times an this gets realy anoying !
I have no problem running DP 5 with the traveler, I have no prob running logic with builtin audio. go figure !
At logic's support an agent sent me a list of task to troubleshoot and none of those worked.
    Here is what I got:
The basic issue when this happens is that Logic is either not getting audio data at the sample rate it expects, or the sample rate is fluctuating. Depending on the specific cause, here are some tips for resolving this:
In most cases, Logic can set the sample rate for the audio interface, but sometimes this is not possible. Check the sample rate for your audio audio interface and make sure it matches Logic's setting. If the settings match, try changing Logic's sample rate to a different setting and then back again.
If you have any devices digitally connected to the audio interface, make sure that only one device is set to be the master clock.
If you have combined multiple audio interfaces by configuring an Aggregate Device in Audio/MIDI Setup, make sure that the devices are digitally connected, and that only one device is configured as master clock.
If you are using Word Clock to sync multiple devices, be sure that all Word Clock connections are properly terminated.
Choose Audio > Audio Hardware & Drivers and try increasing the I/O Buffer size.
Try freezing tracks that use plug-ins that put significant load on the processor.
If you are running other software or hardware that can send MTC or MIDI clock, but intend for Logic to be the sync master, turn off Auto Sync In for Logic, to prevent Logic from receiving sync externally. The Auto Sync In setting can be accessed by click-holding the sync button on Logic's Transport.
If you are syncing Logic to another application or device via MTC, make sure that both Logic and the sync master are set to the same format. Make sure that Logic is not receiving both MIDI Clock and MTC. Also, configure the Audio Sync setting to "External or Free" in case the system is resolved to external Word Clock.
If you using a Reactor ensemble that syncs its LFO to the song tempo, try bypassing or removing the plug-in.
If none of the above helps, try switching to Built-in Audio. If this resolves the problem, check for updated drivers for your audio and MIDI interfaces.
many thanks and hopefully I will be able to go on with this session tomorow...

Please clarify: the erroneous To entry is only seen in the list of messages in the Sent folder, but if actually opened all is well, and also all is well for the recipient? This is a totally different problem description than any of us first understood.
If the above is the case, then you only have an index problem. Open the Sent mailbox for this one account only, click on Mailbox in the menubar, and choose Rebuild. Wait patiently for Mail to finish the Rebuild, and be aware that all messages will disappear for a short time, but will appear later.

  • Region disappears after dragging

    Hello all,
I am editing a simple stereo recording. When I drag a region to either the left or right, it disappears. Does anyone know why this happens? This is a simple drag within the same (stereo) track with the pointer tool. This also seems to affect the copy/paste function.

  • Advice/Help needed migrating/working with two macs

I currently own a mid-2010 (I think) Macbook Pro and a couple of months ago I bought a Mac Mini. Unfortunately when I set up the Mac Mini I was short on time and my excitement/lack of patience got the better of me so I copied everything on the HDD from my MBP over to the Mac Mini and I have been using the same profile to login on both machines.
This causes a few problems, particularly when I'm trying to connect the two machines via a network to share files. They can never connect, I'm thinking probably because they're using the same profile and get confused. I also haven't taken the time to properly install all the applications and so some do not work on the mini.
Rather than trying to pull my hair out trying to solve the issues, I think I've reached a point where I think I need to either start over or get some advice on what to do.
Ideally I'd like to use the Mini mainly for music apps (Garageband, possibly Logic Pro X in the future) and occassional internet and iTunes use. Since it has a bigger HDD, I'd like to store my music on the Mini.
I would then use the MBP as my general internet and iTunes machine. I would however like to be able to use it for music production stuff (again GB and/or Logic) if I am travelling. I know that I will need to upgrade the OS and the RAM which I am happy to do.
I would like to be able to have most of the same apps on both machines and also be able to easily transfer files, music etc. between the two.
So in light of what I'd like to achieve, what would be my best course of action? Would I be best to start over and try to migrate from fresh or can I make something work with what I have?
A further complication is that I have since used both machines so I will have some new stuff saved on both machines that won't be on the other. Is there any way to keep these new files if I start over?
Would anyone be gracious enough to point me in the direction of an easy to follow guide to help me achieve what I want?
Sorry for the long-winded post (and if I've posted in the wrong section) but I really think I lept into the migration without really knowing what I was doing and I could really use some advice to help me work out what to do!

With your project open, press Shift + Q to open System Settings.
Where are your render files being stored to? The path should be pointing to your external. I'm betting that it's set to your system drive instead.

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • SEND MTC from LOGIC to MOTU TRAVELER

    Hi!
In DP I can successfully 'generate form sequencer' SMPTE (in the MOTU SMPTE Console) - it follows the song position and sends the SMPTE time to the MOTU Traveler which I can then route via an analog out to external devices to sync with DP. I am able to sync up a Pro Tools session in another computer. Can't figure out how to get Logic to do this.
Nor can I figure out how to get LOGIC to read MTC sent to the IAC Driver from DP. Shouldn't LOGIC be able to chase another software application?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Craig

It really depends on the FX you're using.
    Here are two simple examples:
    1) Let's suppose you want to insert an external hardware compressor on Audio 1.
Insert I/O plug on Audio 1, with its output set to Bus 1 (instead of 1-2)
In the I/O plug, set the ins and outs to 3
Connect the output of your compressor to your interface, input 3 and the compressors input to output 3 on your interface.
    In Logic, create Audio 2
In Audio 2, choose Bus 1 at its input, 1-2 as it's output.
Record your compressed track on Audio 2
Because you're creating a roundtrip through your interface, you'll create some delay. So when you're done, adjust the start of your new region on audio 2 to match that of audio 1. Be careful not to create a feedback loop while you're hooking all this up.
    2) Let's suppose you want to use an external reverb unit. In this case, you probably want to use it on an Aux, and not record it, but have it available to send to from any track.
Let's use Bus 20 to send to your reverb unit.
Create an stereo bus return. Let's say Aux 20.
On AUX 20, choose Bus 20 as it's input, output 1-2
Insert I/O plug on AUX 20, and in that select Input and output to 3-4
Patch your reverb's input L&R to your interfaces 3-4 outputs.
Patch the reverb's outputs L&R to your interfaces 3-4 inputs
Now just send from your audio track(s) to your reverb on Bus 20, just like it's a plug-in reverb.
In this case, although you're also inducing latency, you can compensate for it in your reverb's predelay settings, as you're probably using some anyway, so just reduce it by the round-trip delay.
It's actually much easier to do than to type it out And there are alternative methods too, but hopefully this will help.

you´ll need a motu account to download it.
anyway it still doesn´t work with some other aplications, like skype or streaming videos from internet!
