Logical database access in abap HR
Dear all,
i am working on HR Master Report. is there any way to access logical database PNP without standard input screen.
means due to requirement my input screen is totally different so i don't want to use standard input screen. but i want to access
pernr table by get pernr or other functioality of PNP logical database.
any valuable suggesstion will be much apprecaited.
Thanks and Regards

LOGICAL DATABASE IN HR ABAP PRPGRAMMING
Hi Friends,

HR Logical Databases
In Human Resources (HR), the following logical databases can be used as a data source for HR InfoSets:
PNP (PNPCE)
PAP
PCH
By selecting a logical database, you determine the HR data that can be reported on using an InfoSet.
Logical Database PCH
This logical database generally enables you to report on all HR infotypes. However, you are advised not to use this logical database unless you want to report on Personnel Planning data.
Logical Database PNP (or PNPCE)
Use logical database PNP to report on HR master data. It is possible to use logical database PCH to access this data, but PNP meets such reporting requirements more quickly because it is best suited to the task of selecting persons.
Logical database PNP enables you to access HR master data and infotypes from Personnel Planning. For example, you have the following options:
Reporting on the costs, number of attendees booked, and instructor for a business event on which an employee is booked
Reporting on working time and planned compensation for a position that an employee occupies
Reporting on the validity and proficiency of a qualification that an employee fulfils
From a technical perspective, this means you can use PNP to report on all of the infotypes that exist for objects (infotype 1000) that have a direct relationship (infotype 1001) with the Person object.
The ability to access infotypes from Personnel Planning using logical database PNP is a special feature that you can only use in the context of SAP Query and Ad Hoc Query. You cannot use this functionality for ABAP reports you programmed yourself.
You can also use logical database PNP to report on data from Personnel Time Management (infotypes 2000 to 2999) and Payroll (special payroll infotypes for the USA and customer infotypes; for more information, access Customizing for the Human Resources Information System and see Payroll Results).
Logical Database PAP
Logical database PAP enables you to access data from Recruitment.

Is Logical Database used in ABAP?????
Hi All,
I m very confused whether LDB's are used in ABAP or not.
i have undergone a small training in ABAP-HR (HCM).
In that training i was told that there is an advantage in HCM that LDB's are used here
which were not used in ABAP.
And i have read somewhere that LDB's are used in ABAP.
can plz sumone give a light on this.
Thanks,
Sonalihi,
The use of a logical database provides you with an alternative to having to program database accesses individually. Logical databases retrieve data records and make them available to ABAP programs.
The same logical database can be the data source for several Quick Views, queries, and programs. In the Quick View, the LDB can be specified directly as a data source. A query works with the logical database when the functional area that generated the query is defined with a logical database. In the case of type 1 programs, the LDB is entered in the attributes or called using function module LDB_PROCESS. See appendix for information on how to use the function module.
Logical databases offer several advantages:
The system generates a selection screen. The use of selection screen versions or variants provides the required flexibility.
The user does not have to know the exact structure of the tables involved (especially the foreign key dependencies); the data is made available in the correct order at GET events.
Performance improvements within logical databases directly affect all programs linked to the logical database, without having to change the programs themselves.
Maintenance can be performed at a central location.
Authorization checks can also be performed centrally.
A logical database is an ABAP program that reads predefined data from the database and makes it available to other programs.
A hierarchical structure determines the order in which the data is supplied to the programs. A logical database also provides a selection screen that checks user entries and conducts error dialogs. These can be extended in programs.
SAP provides some 200 logical databases in Release 4.6. The names of logical databases have been extended to 20 places in Release 4.0 (namespace prefix max. 10 characters).
In the case of executable programs, you can enter a logical database in the attributes.
Use the NODES statement to specify the nodes of the logical database that You want to use in the program. NODES allocates the appropriate storage space for the node - that is, a work area or a table area depending on the node type.
The logical database makes the data records available for the corresponding GET events.
The sequence in which these events are processed is determined by the structure of the logical database.
Logical databases are made up of several sub-objects. The structure determines the hierarchy, and thus the read sequence of the data records.
Hope this helps, Do reward -
Problem with logical database DDF in ABAP query
Hi All,
I have created an ABAP query via the transaction SQ01 using the logical database DDF to retrieve customer master data from tables KNA1 & KNB1. The selection screen used is the screen 903 of the logical database DDF. But now the problem is that when I execute the query, I am getting a blank value in the tax code4(KNA1-STCD4) field though there is value in the KNA1 table for this particular field. This field was added to the table by means of a customizing include. Can anyone suggest a way to get around this problem so that I can view the content of the field STCD4 in the query.
Thanks and regards,
Sarath.I think it's not used by DDF.
so you must check it with:
check kna1-bran1 in s_bran1.

Logical Database Access in FM???
Hi All,
I'm trying to use LDB PNP in function module with out any selection screen.
I do use 'pernr' screen to use pnp ldb. Now i've to write a fm to download employee information using rfc with same parameters that i provide to pernr sellection screen.
Please help me, how can i do this... I've seen many threads very similar to this. but wasn't helpful.Oh God, this is again not usefull... If i run this FM in se37, it returns a long string of available data for all infoty (I checked only 0001 and 0002).
and the way you told returns the following.
MAN PERNR SUBT OB S ENDDA BEGDA SEQ AEDTM UNAME H I R O IT PR F F F F RE RE GRPV BUKR WERK P PE VDSK1 GSBE
200 00143000 1 23.91. 999 90.80.1200 100 10.81.0200 7AMEER THA L200 0 10 42100 210
is there any option to attachment excel file. I'm not able to paiste the output...
anyways the data is split or mixed up among fields. I saw that the last letter of each column is concatenate with the next column.
please find it.. I need many information to download on reqular(incremental) basis from production server... -
Logical Database in Abap Objects
Hi to All
I want do it a program report using a Logical Database.
Is this possible ??? But when I make a GET <node>, occurs the following error:
"" Statement "ENDMETHOD" missing. ""
I'm doing the following:
CLASS MONFIN IMPLEMENTATION.
METHOD TRAER_DATOS.
GET VBRK.
ENDMETHOD.
ENDCLASS.
Please, somebody tell me how I use the logical database in Abap Objects.
Thank you very much
Regards
Dario R.Hi there
Logical databases whilst of "some use" are not really part of OO.
If you want to use a logical database in an abap OO program I would create a special class which just does the get data from your DB and pass this either at record or table level.
Techniques such as GET XXXX LATE aren't really part of any OO type of application since at Object Instantiation time you should be able to access ALL the attributes of that object.
As far as OO is concerned Logical databases are a throwback to "Dinosaur Technology".
Since however modules such as SD and FI are still heavily reliant on relational structures (i.e linked tables etc) then there is still some limited life in this stuff but for OO try and solve it by another method.
If you really must use this stuff in OO then do it via a FMOD call and save the data in a table which your method will pass back to your application program.
You can't issue a GET command directly in a method.
Cheers

Hi All, I am quite familiar with Logical Databases but I need to understand the following.
1) I am using LDB ADA, but I want to use my own Selection Screen and not the default one that the LDB provides. I know I must put something in AT SELECTION-SCREEN but am unsure what.
2) Once I get the data, I want to store the data in an internal table - how do I go about doing this? If you can provide a code example that would be great.
Points for any relevant help.Hi,
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
Logical database structures
There are three defining entities in an SAP logical database. You must be clear on all three in order to create and use one.
Table structure: Your logical database includes data from specified tables in SAP. There is a hierarchy among these tables defined by their foreign keys (all known to SAP), and you are going to define a customized relationship between select tables. This structure is unique and must be defined and saved.
Data selection: You may not want or need every item in the referenced tables that contributes to your customized database. There is a selection screen that permits you to pick and choose.
Database access programming: Once youve defined your logical database, SAP will generate the access subroutines needed to pull the data in the way you want it pulled.
Creating your own logical database
Heres a step-by-step guide:
1) Call up transaction SLDB (or transaction SE36). The path you want is Tools | ABAP Workbench | Development | Programming Environment | Logical Databases. This screen is called Logical Database Builder.
2) Enter an appropriate name in the logical database name field. You have three options on this screen: Create, Display, and Change. Choose Create.
3) Youll be prompted for a short text description of your new logical database. Enter one. Youll then be prompted to specify a development class.
4) Specify a root node, or a parent table, as the basis of your logical database structure. You can now place subsequent tables under the root table as needed to assemble the data object you want. You can access this tree from this point forward, to add additional tables, by selecting that root node and following the path Edit | Node | Create. Once youve saved the structure you define in this step, the system will generate the programming necessary to access your logical database. The best part is you dont have to write a single line of code.
Noted point is we cant add any selection criteria thru our se38 program if you are attaching any LDB to program.Ist of no use.
If you want to change selection criteria to the existing LDB, you have to goto SE36 tcode and provide LDB name and choose "Change" mode by selecting "Selections" Radio button.
declaration of params is different compared to normal se38 program in some aspects.
PARAMETERS :p_curr LIKE bkpf-waers FOR TABLE bkpf OBLIGATORY.
this BKPF table should be one of the node in the "Structure" Radio button.
Thanks

Data retrival error in Logical Database
Hello Gurus,
I am working on a Report on ASSET ACTIVITY BY DATE RANGE .
The program is copied from std. program S_ALR_87011990.
The above std. program displays for the whole financial year. This is modified for a particalar period range in the new leveraged program.
My question is in the below code.
We are fetching data using LDB ADA. The statement "GET anlcv" works fine here, I mean Sy-subrc is 0 and anlcv structure has some data in it.
When it comes to statement "GET anepv" in the below code, we are not getting any data into that structure and sy-subrc NE 0. Then it is skipping all the get statements and directly going to statement " PERFORM abga_simulieren.".
My logic lies in between this Get statement and the perform statement. When i see it in debugging mode my statement is not executed at all.
What needs to be done. Please anyone help me.

Hi,
<u>Can, programming with LDB, be considered as an object programming.. just VB, which is an object programming language.</u>
That is we r creating an Object directly and using when ever we want. It is different from OOP where we create a class and instantiate the class to create an object.
My next question is:
There are 2 transactions which we will create, which are basically same except for a text field.
<i>First transaction is posting. And the second one is a reverse posting. In the second transaction we have the reason for reverse posting.</i>
I think in this case we can use LDB and it is the typical scenario where we can apply LDB concept.
Please evaluate me.
-Naveen.<b>Hi NaveenKumar,</b>
Logical databases are special ABAP programs that retrieve data and make it available to application programs. The most common use of logical databases is to read data from database tables by linking them to executable ABAP programs.
However, from Release 4.5A, it has also been possible to call logical databases using the function module LDB_PROCESS. This allows you to call several logical databases from any ABAP program, nested in any way. It is also possible to call a logical database more than once in a program, if it has been programmed to allow this.
Logical databases contain Open SQL statements that read data from the database. You do not therefore need to use SQL in your own programs. The logical database reads the program, stores them in the program if necessary, and then passes them line by line to the application program or the function module LDB_PROCESS using an interface work area.
<b>Tasks of Logical Databases</b>
1.Reading the same data for several programs.
2.Defining the same user interface for several programs.
3.Central authorization checks
4.Improving performance
<b>First part of your question</b>
<b>
So,if i am not wrong, LDB cannot be completely considered as object oriented programmming.</b>
I have highlighted some important points above
For understanding this in detail you can go through the sap help .(if you donot know go through the below path
sap library
+ Basis Components
-Abap Programing and runtime enviornment
-BC-ABAP Programming(noe serach for ldb
<b>Now your second part of question</b>.
In the scenario which you have mentioned we can use ldb.But i am not sure whether it is a typical scenario of ldb.LDB is just a specific access routine to support database access for some application (report generation) needs. We can define a logical database to shorten our ABAP coding .
Here I am mentioning a link which shows a complete implementation of an LDB.
<b>http://homepages.wmich.edu/~r2raviko/HandsOnQuest/HO9.doc</b>
I suppose after going through the reply(or sap help) and the link mentioned above all your doubts regarding LDB will be cleared.

Selection part of Logical Database
I read about logical database somewhere on the net but it was not so clear. Can anyone explain to me about the selection part of the logical database???
Logical databases are special ABAP programs that retrieve data and make it available to application programs. The most common use of logical databases is still to read data from database tables and linking them to executable ABAP programs while setting the program contents. You edit logical databases using the Logical Database Builder in the ABAP Workbench.
However, since Release 4.5A, it has also been possible to call logical databases independently of this tool using the function module LDB_PROCESS. This allows you to call several logical databases from any ABAP program, nested in any way. It is also possible to call a logical database more than once in a program, if it has been programmed to allow this. This is particularly useful for executable programs, allowing them to use more than one logical database and process a database more than once.
Logical databases contain Open SQL statements that read data from the database. You do not therefore need to use SQL in your own programs. The logical database reads the program, stores them in the program if necessary, and then passes them line by line to the application program or the function module LDB_PROCESS using an interface work area.

Logical databases are SAP standard programs that are desinged with selections screens that helps easy retrival and access of data from various tables in and efficient manner.
You can get to know more about the logical databases from the SAP documentation or the following links.
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
Advantages of Logical database -
1) No need of programming for retrieval , meaning for data selection
2) Easy to use standard user interface, have check completeness of user input.
Disadvantages
1) Fast in case of lesser no. of tables But if the table is in the lowest level of hierarchy, all upper level tables should be read so performance is slower.

1. A logical database is in fact
a program only.
2. This LDB provides two main things :
a) a pre-defined selection screen
which handles all user inputs and validations
b) pre defined set of data
based upon the user selection.
3. So we dont have to worry about from
which tables to fetch data.
4. Moreover, this LDB Program,
handles all user-authorisations
and is efficient in all respects.
5. tcode is SLDB
good info about Logical Database. you can check the link.

Functions for displaying and changing logical databases:
Call Transaction SE36 or
Choose ABAP Workbench -> Development -> Programming environ. -> Logical databases
Interaction between database program and report:
During program processing, subroutines are performed in the database program and events are executed in the report.
To read data from a database tables we use logical database.
A logical database provides read-only access to a group of related tables to an ABAP/4 program.
advantages:-
The programmer need not worry about the primary key for each table.Because Logical database knows how the different tables relate to each other, and can issue the SELECT command with proper where clause to retrieve the data.
i)An easy-to-use standard user interface.
ii)check functions which check that user input is complete, correct, and plausible.
iii)meaningful data selection.
iv)central authorization checks for database accesses.
v)good read access performance while retaining the hierarchical data view determined by the application logic.
disadvantages:-
i)If you donot specify a logical database in the program attributes, the GET events never occur.
ii)There is no ENDGET command,so the code block associated with an event ends with the next event
statement (such as another GET or an END-OF-SELECTION).
1. transaction code SLDB.
2.enter name z<ldb-name>
3.create
4.short text
5.create
6. name of root node (here Ekko)
7. enter short text (f6)
8.node type -> data base table.
9.create
10 change logical DB
riht click on ekko and insert node
here node name ekpo
11.create
12. click on selections
13. press no Should the changed structure of Z<ldb name> be saved first.
14.select tables which you want to join.
15.transfer
16 now you have to o to coding part.
17. save
activate.
19.click to src code
double click on first include and activate

A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
GET will fetch the table data immediately
GET LATE
In the LDB when you define the table structure in hierarchy, first it will fetch the higher node data and then all the below node tables data and comes to a second record in the top node table. for this GET Late is used.
You can create any number of primary keys in a table
The programmer need not worry about the primary key for each table.Because Logical database knows how the different tables relate to each other, and can issue the SELECT command with proper where clause to retrieve the data.
i)An easy-to-use standard user interface.
ii)check functions which check that user input is complete, correct, and plausible.
iii)meaningful data selection.
iv)central authorization checks for database accesses.
v)good read access performance while retaining the hierarchical data view determined by the application logic.

Advantages and disadvantages of logical database ?
dear masters,
good answers can be rewarded by giving pointsHi,
Logical databases are SAP standard programs that are desinged with selections screens that helps easy retrival and access of data from various tables in and efficient manner.
You can get to know more about the logical databases from the SAP documentation or the following links.
A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute.

LDB offers an easy-to-use selection screens. You can modify the pre-generated selection screen to your needs. It offers check functions to check whether user input is complete, correct, and plausible. It offers reasonable data selections. It contains central authorization checks for data base accesses. Enhancements such as improved performance immediately apply to all report programs that use the logical database.
Less coding s required to retrieve data compared to normal internel tables.
Tables used LDB are in hierarchial structure.
Mainly we used LDBs in HR Abap Programming.
Where all tables are highly inter related so LDBs can optimize the performance there.

Greetings to All!
Problem, help...
There is a logic database "AUK" - documents of calculation, successfully used it in 4.6.
Necessity of use of this logic database in 6.0 has appeared, it is impossible. On www.service.sap.com have answered, that this logic database "AUK" is obsolete and is not used after version 4.0.
What to do?
Whether there is any other logic database which I could use instead of "AUK"?
Or perhaps to create the logic database having copied "AUK"?
Beforehand I thank .Hi
if you doesn't wants to use the data from AUK Logical database
then try to fetch the data from the tables related to that and use them in data fetching they are:
AUAK,AUAO,AUAB,AUAS,AUAO,AUAV etc
see the doc on LDB's
