Logicboard broken - how to transfer data to new iMac

Hey there!
About a month ago my MBPs logicboard died (Apple would replace it for 500€, but that's too much as I wanted a new iMac anyway), so I bought the new iMac and am NOW asking myself how to get access to my MBPs hdd. I guess I'll have to get it out of the MBP, but what next?
Thanks in advance!

Put it into a usb enclosure for laptop hard drive.

  • How to transfer data from NEW mac to OLD?

I want my Macbook Pro, gotten around early 2009 (runs on Leopard), to have the same things on it that my newer iMac has (runs on Snow Leopard). However, I'm running into a problem when I try to do that.
A few months ago I had no problem transferring ALL my data, accounts, files, applications, etc, from my new Mac to my old Macbook. I had erased the disk on my Macbook and then somehow managed to transfer all my data from the new Mac to the my old Macbook from a Time Machine backup.
Now, however, when I try to transfer it now through Migration Assistant or the startup disk, my Macbook tells me that I can't because my Macbook runs on an operating system older than my new Mac. It will not allow me to.
I don't remember how I did it last time. I remember getting the same error message, but finding a way to fix it... but I forgot completely! Last time, using the same Macs, and the same situation, I was able to transfer my data from the new Mac to the old one using Migration Assistant and Time Machine. Now it won't let me.
Is there any way to do this?
Please, advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

It's been awhile since I messed with this, but try opening Migration Assistant on the newer Mac.

  • Transfer data to new imac

    Hi,
I have an imac that is a couple of years old but have just bought the new model. Could someone tell me the easiest way to transfer all my data across to the new computer and then how to blitz the old one to clean it all up and make it like new.
    Thanks
    David

If your old iMac is Intel then the easiest solution is to use Migration Assistant. This option will be provided in the Setup Assistant that will run as soon as you start up the new iMac.
You can erase the hard drive on the old iMac and then do a fresh installation of OS X.

  • Trying to transfer data to new imac using Pondini

Just bought a new iMac and I'm trying to use Pondini's instructions to transfer my old 10.5.8 data to Lion using Firewire.
On the new iMac, when I select Transfer from Another Mac, it doesn't give me a Firewire option.  It only gives me a wireless option?
    Help??
    Thanks in advance,
    Bonnie

See > How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
To use FireWire target disk mode
Make sure that the target computer is turned off.
If you are using an Apple portable computer such as a PowerBook or MacBook as the target computer, plug in its AC power adapter.
Use a FireWire cable to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer can be powered on.
Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
When you are finished copying files, locate the target computer's hard disk icon on the desktop of the host computer and drag it to the Trash or choose Eject (or Put Away) from the File menu.
Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
    Unplug the FireWire cable.

  • HT201250 Using time machine/ external hard drive to transfer data to new iMac?

I just purchased a new iMac and do not want to use migration assistant to transfer all the data from my old iMac to the new iMac.  Does anyone know if I can just connect my external hard drive that was used as a Time Machine to the new computer to be able to access all my old data?

Yes, you should be able to do that. Visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ should you need help.

  • Outlook issue - How to transfer data to new identity?

Outlook on my MacAir keeps shutting down, so I cannot access my e-mails at all. I tried rebuilding the Identity database but no impact, I also repaired the preferences. When I create a new identity and then open Outlook, it looks ok. Now how do I access all the data that was in my previous "main" identity?
Spent a frustrating day today trying everything on the forums, but no luck. Appreciate any help here.

A USB thumb drive is best, install the free ClamXav to run a scan on it first.
Windows malware doesn't affect a Mac, but you could have weird issues or transfer them to another PC user.

  • How to transfer data from Centris 650 to iMac?

    Hello community
I have inherited a vintage Centris 650 running OS 7.
The computer is perfectly working and it is connected to an external SCSI HD (original internal Apple disk encased in a box after upgrading the internal HD) to an IOMEGA ZIP100 SCSI drive and to a Magnetooptical HammerDisk w/r). The chain is properly terminated and all components work.
I would like to transfer some data from the different components to a more up to date system. Particularly I would like to transfer data to an iMac (end 2006) running OS 10.7.5 (eventually I could bring the system into the proximity of a new generation i/7 iMac but I think this will make the generational gap larger and communication even more difficult)
Is there any way to transfer files betwwen the Centris and the 2006 iMac?
The centris has an Ethernet port and I found a Dayna (EasyNet connector) compatible withteh centris and iMac Ethernet ports but I don’t know if this is sufficient and how should I  set the communications between the two computers
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated
    Karba650

    José,
If the Centris 650 has the (optional) built-in CD-ROM drive, or if an external CD-ROM drive is connected to the SCSI port, it is actually quite easy to copy System 7.5.3 and other downloaded files to the hard disk (thus eliminating the need for floppy transfers). As I indicated earlier, one could burn a CD-R disc containing all .bin files. You may want to burn the disc at a low speed (such as 2X). It is even possible to burn the disc on a Linux or Windows PC (a data disc with an ISO 9660 file system). If your present 7.1 system has the required CD-ROM helper files, the disc should appear on the Desktop on the Centris 650. The .bin files can then be decoded by StuffIt Expander (4.0.1), and a complete System 7.5.3 can be installed.
Once the Centris 650 is running under System 7.5.3 (with the Network Software Selector set to Open Transport networking), configuring TCP/IP can be done in a few steps. Open the TCP/IP control panel. "Connect via: Ethernet" and "Configure: Using DHCP Server" are (usually) the only settings needed. Close the control panel window.
You do not have to install a web browser, an FTP client or an email program at all if you place a small server on the Centris 650. One example could be NetPresenz 4.1.
    http://archive.info-mac.org/_Internet/
Connect the Centris 650 and the modern computer to two LAN ports of a router. Disconnect any incoming Internet (cable to a WAN port) and switch off Wi-Fi (if possible). That would give you a purely local connection.
A QuickStart document describes how to set up NetPresenz as an FTP server.
Place all files to be transferred from the Centris to a modern computer in the chosen shared folder.
Turn on the server on the Centris 650. Note the IP Address shown in the TCP/IP control panel window (or the server's log window). The IP address depends upon the router (for instance, something like 192.168.0.nnn). Launch a web browser on a modern computer (Mac or PC). Enter ftp:// followed by this IP address in the browser's address field. Do not forget ftp:// (not http://) before the IP address. The files in the shared folder should now appear on the modern computer. Alternatively, a dedicated FTP client could be used to access the files.

  • How to transfer data from one client to another client

    Dear Experts,
Please explain how to transfer data (Materials) from one client to another client?
    Thanks,
    Ajay Kumar

    Hi Ajay,
    Check any of below methods
Refer thread http://scn.sap.com/thread/171981 where people use IDOCs for master data transfer.
    OR
This is done by BASIS team, by client refresh or client copy. Check with your basis team for this and there is some predefined time when they plan this activity, and in most project they do it once in 3 months etc to get production environment in test system which helps to resolve issues of production by creating similar case in test system.
Check below threads for more information

    http://basissap.blogspot.in/2008/05/what-is-client-copy.html
    OR
You can download data from one client and upload in another through BDC or LSMW.

ok - since you'll be sharing it with a PC - connect it to your windows pc - then format from there - instead of NTFS format - choose exFAT.
or, you can read the link below on how to do it in dos mode.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/how-can-i-forma t-external-drive-in-exfat-not-in/0f6bf19a-19d6-4470-ae05-53ddf26bb476?msgId=1860 eae3-3488-4eea-8326-f87b89d9851b
once you've formatted it - you can now use it in both your macbook and windows computer.
