LogicPro Multicore handling in "Live input Mode"

Hi,
I'm using LogicPro 9.1.3 to mix a band live. This means that I have 24 tracks with input monitoring enabled assigned to a 7.1 surround output and a latency of 128 samples. Plus a few aux return tracks for effects.
Unfortunately, as explained on this thread : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3161 Logic Pro does not support multicore when in "live input mode".
Why not ? MainStage supports "live input mode" but can't mix to a surround output.
Any chance for MainStage to support Surround sound output in a near future ?
Any chance for LogicPro to support multicore while in live input mode ?
Thanks for your help

Hi there,
Thank you for participating.
Indeed I'm very happy with Logic Pro, and it works fine with no crashes or latency issues. I use a buffer size of 128 samples to have a bit more CPU power.
The only issue is that even if I can already do plenty of real time sound treatment with all sorts of plug-ins. I am almost overloading one CPU, while the other stands there doing nothing.
If apple could find a way to use both CPUs while in live input mode, it would be great. I could then probably use altiverbs for my reverbs instead of Lexicons. I know that they managed to do it on MainStage. So why not on Logic ????
Please, apple guys, can you do something ???

  • MyRIO FPGA FFT Express VI timing analysis for multiple input mode - trying to perform fft's on a 3-axis accelerometer

    Hi Everyone!
    Project Background:
I've been working with the myRIO FPGA in an attempt to generate an application capable of sampling a tri-axis accelerometer and performing an fft on each axis. I've successfully developed an application for a single axis, but attempting to duplicate the code to sample the second and third axes in parallel results in an estimated 150% resource utilization for the tiny FPGA's LUT's. Additionally, I'm looking to avoid sequentially processing each accelerometer input using triggers and a single fft block because that reduces my fft update frequency significantly (e.g. I can't calculate another fft for input 1 until I calculate an fft for inputs 2 and 3).
After reading up on the fft vi, I'm thinking that I can use the M-interval input indexes / Continuous output indexes Input/Output Index Pattern mode. My thought is that I can edit the vi to remove any math that "recombines" these three vectors into a single fft, resulting in 3 separate fft's. I'm also hoping that this process requires less time than using the sequential method described above.
    The Questions:
    1. Has anyone done an fft on three inputs using the myRIO at sampling rates > 20kHz and fft sizes of 1024 or larger? If so, I may just be lacking some proper resource management.
    2. Does anyone know where to find timing information on the M-interval input indexes / Continuous output indexes Input/Output Index Pattern mode? The manual only provides timing diagrams for singel channel / single input modes. I don't want to waste my time modifying the vi if it will still take 3x as long (assuming modifying the vi is even a possibility).
    Further Information:
I already have an application written that samples the accelerometers at >20kHz and then performs the fft on the main processor, but now I'm looking to see if it is possible to perform all signal processing on the FPGA side. The processor performs decently enough, but the timing is not as consistent as I would like it to be. Lastly, I am aware that the myRIO itself has a built in accelerometer, but I need to mount the accelerometer in an environment where the myRIO would probably be damaged and definitely cannot fit.
Any thoughts are much appreciated! The excessive FPGA compile times for this thing make the old guess and check method less appealing.
    -Chris

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for posting and the detailed background on the project! To answer some of your questions:
    1. The FFT Express VI does use a significant amount of space. The FPGA on the myRIO is somewhat limited space-wise. Your best option may to implement the FFT for 1 channel on the FPGA and the other two on the RT side.
    2. I converted the FFT Express VI to a subVI and I am not sure if you can trim too much code from it. The subVI is also very complex so re-working it would be a significant amount of work. I could not find much documentation on M-interval input indexes / Continuous output indexes Input/Output Index Pattern mode timing.
    I hope that this helps!

  • Bug report submitted re Input Mode affected by ACR 4.2 Mac - very annoying

Just submitted a bug report to Adobe. ACR 4.2, Photoshop 10, Tiger 10.4.10, PowerPC.
Most users in the US and the UK may not even run across this situation.
If you use a non US standard keyboard layout as your Input mode, causing ACR 4.2 to launch, either from Bridge, Photoshop, or the Finder, this switches the selected keyboard to the US standard. If you click the Cancel button in ACR, the keyboard reverts back to your custom keyboard layout; but if you click Open, the US standard keyboard remains set even after quitting Photoshop, ACR and Bridge.
It took me a while to figure out what was causing me to loose my preferred keyboard layout. It didn't dawn on me ACR 4.2 was doing it. Observing a few screen shots led me to discover the cause.
    It's most annoying.

The choices in Bridge > Preferences > Advanced > International > Keyboard are limited, and they do not allow for choosing custom keyboard layouts.
I need the custom keyboard layouts for a variety of reasons, such as being able to type in seven languages with my most used one without switching, two Russian layouts to allow for two non-standard ways of encoding Russian fonts, etc.

My Canon 6D will not focus or flash in "Live View" mode.  I have a canon 430ex II  and a E-ttl flash connected with a sync cord for E-ttl function.  The camera does simulate shutter action, but no photo is taken.  How can I over-come this problem.

    Hi Shadowcat!
    Thanks for posting.
It sounds like the AF Method is set to Quick Mode.  When the camera is set for Live View Shooting, there are different AF Methods that can be set.  In Quick Mode, the camera uses its dedicated AF sensor to focus when you press the shutter button down halfway.
The image on the LCD will be interrupted while the camera tries to focus because the shutter closes and the mirror drops back over the image sensor.  This may look as though the camera is taking a picture, but it is not, it is only focusing.  No flash is fired during this process either.  Continue to hold the shutter button halfway until focus is achieved, at which point the image will return to the LCD.  Then you can press the shutter button the rest of the way down to take the picture.  The flash will fire and an image will be recorded.

  • Tax issue with Direct Input mode of RFBIBL00

Hi, I have a problem using <b>RFBIBL00</b> (direct input mode) to create A/R invoices. There is no tax associated with the invoice, however, when I use direct input mode, instead of posting immediately, a batch input session is created. In the log, an <b>information</b> message: <i>'Specify a tax jurisdiction key'</i>. The BDC session is processed with no error.
When using Call transaction mode for RFBIBL00, the document is posted immediately but the requirement is to use Direct input mode.
There is no converted data in the BBTAX structure since the doc. does not need to post to tax account. Do I need to populate the Tax amount, Tax code and jurisdiction code in this structure and BBSEG in order to by pass the information message?
    Any advice is appreciated.

Problem solved. Just need to untie the relationship between the ITEM import structure and the BBTAX so the Direct Input program will not require a tax jurisdiction code.

  • Event handler for STDIN input?

    Hi,
This question will probably require a bit of context - I'm attempting to re-implement in java an application that's currently written in perl. The application is a server helper app that rewriters urls; it receives a request ID and a URL on stdin, does the necessary munging (which can require an external SOAP query), then returns the resulting rewritten URL.
Since the results can be asynchronous due to the need for external queries to build the result, this is currently a multithreaded perl app implemented using perl's POE framework to register an event handler for stdin. That handler fires each time a line of input is received, then feeds the query to a thread pool manager (POE::Component::Pool::Thread, which is conceptually similar to the Executor frameworks). The thread returns the result as a callback registered to another function in the main thread, which then populates the query/result to a cache then outputs the result (with the original query ID) on stdout. Since stdin input and the result callbacks are event-driven, there's no while(true) main loop or other blocking mechanism in the main thread. Unfortunately, it's perl-ness is causing problems due to perl's threading implementation (three words: "copy on init"), so we need to reimplement in a language with a more robust threading implementation (preferably one with copy-on-write for shared objects). So, Java it is.
So far everything's been good - Executor, Callables, and Futures work as I hoped they would for proper thread management, and the internal worker thread logic (XML processing, SOAP, regular expressions, etc) is proving rather simple to adapt. However, the main roadblock I'm hitting is that so far, I have not found a way to register any sort of event handler for STDIN input (or more specifically, InputStreamReader/BufferedStreamReader events). This could be due to search engine pollution - everything I see when I search for documentation on event listeners appears to be GUI-specific (buttons, menus, text areas/forms, etc). I'm just looking for a way to handle a line of STDIN, not a text area on a form.
Any pointers in the right direction will be much appreciated!

Maybe I need to rethink the design here...
The main reason I used a callback in the original perl is that there's a large cache structure that gets checked before the thread dispatch, and only cache misses get pushed to a thread for processing. Callbacks from the threads will then add its results to the cache. Thanks to perl's thread model, when I attempted to make the cache a shared structure - in perl, you have to explicitly mark as "shared" variables that you want visible to all threads - the structure wound up getting copied to every thread, and this gave the app an unacceptable memory footprint. So the solution was to use a callback in the main thread to update the cache.
I'm now thinking that if Java's thread model is a bit saner (i.e. a shared object doesn't get copied into every thread), then I could just have each thread update the cache, print its output to STDOUT directly, and avoid the need for the callback. I can then make my input loop simply a while() loop, waiting for the next input to dispatch. Sound sane?Yes I think so.
There is some of this I still don't entirely understand. Your loop sounds better now but it sounds to me like the process is this.
    1) read from in
    2) call some stuff on the basis of what came in
    3) do work
    4) workers produce things
    5) things written back out
    6) read back in??
If you're just going in/out then great. If you are going in/out/in then maybe some sort of PipedInput/Output Streams? It may well be that I got lost in your explanation in which case never mind.

  • How to Change the Fields from Input mode to display mode

    Hi experts,
Here is my business requirement. I need to show certain fields in the PRICING TAB OF SALES ORDER  in display mode. Now for this i am using the BADI definition CRM_PRICING_BADI.
Now, can anybody tell me how to change the field type from input mode to change mode?

    Hi Karan,
In your BADI has a parameter CT_INPUT_FIELD_NAMES with one field called CHANGEABLE with values:
         Field Can Be Changed

  • Open the form layout in input mode if no record exists in the VO?

    Hi,
    I am using
JDeveloper version: Studio Edition Version 10.1.3.1.0.3984
    JHeadstart version: 10.1.3.1 Release 10.1.3.1.26
I have a group with Form Layout where Single-Row Insert allowed is true.
What I want to do is:
When I open this form in the browser, it will open with the existing record in the ViewObject associated with this form, if there is any record exists.
But if there is no record exists in the ViewObject, then it will open the form in input mode (user will not need to click the 'New' button to create a record).
I tried setting the property 'Auto Query?' to false. But in that case it opens the form in input mode all the time, it does not open with the existing record.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
This is not natively supported in the 10.1.3 releases of JHeadstart. Can you please ask this question at the JDeveloper forum at JDeveloper and ADF ?
You can use the JHeadstart templating to save your customizations of course, see the JHeadstart Dev Guide chapter on customization.
    Thanks!

All of a sudden Live View Mode doesn't work on my 70D.  Setting is enabled.  Pictures show on my screen for a few seconds after it's taken, but screen is black while taking pictures even when shutter release button pressed down half way.  Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Is exposure stimulation turn on/off? does the photo taken look dark? You can try to reset it to factory default.

  • Why is the input mode greyed out when I try to create a virtual channel for my 1102?

I have set up a virtual channel for my SCXI-1102, and the input mode is greyed out with it set to "differential". I have already skimmed this forum for answers, and I have checked to verify that the mode slot under the AI tab for my MIO-E series card is set to nonreferenced single-ended mode. I then created a virtual channel with the device slot under the hardware column set to Dev1_SC1_MD1CXI-1102. At this point, as already stated, the input mode goes grey while set to differential. What's going on?

    Hello,
All outputs from the SCXI module are measured in differential mode. You can still mix differential and single ended measurements (if you use the remaining channels of your daq board).
The easiest way to mix modes is with virtual channels. All SCXI analog input channels will be differential, while you can make other virtual channels differential or single ended. If you don't want to use virtual channels, you can use AI Hardware Config in LabVIEW to change the mode.
    Hope this helps. Regards,
