Login and Archive & Install issues

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who's been having trouble with his macbook. He was having some issues with it earlier this evening, so he decided to reboot, and now he can no longer log in to the computer. When he tries to log in, the login window disappears as usual, and a generic background comes up for a few seconds, then the screen flashes blue and returns to the login screen. I have found posts by other users describing the same problem, and the solution is always to do an archive & install.
Unfortunately, when he boots from the disc and goes to install OSX (Leopard), the only option available is erase & install. I've also found reports of this happening, but the solutions involve changing stuff while OSX is running, which obviously isn't an option here. Why would the archive & install option not be available?

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

    All,
    For the past week, I've been struggling mightily with Leopard to get it to run smoothly after upgrading from Tiger. After I upgraded, my computer ran slow (the dreaded spinning wheel), I got a blue screen for some time before the OS loaded, and a variety of other issues with programs and some installers. When I clicked on Macintosh HD, it could take upwards of 2-3 minutes for the computer to think through the process of simply opening a folder.
    It got to the point where I even upgraded from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB's, just to see if that would make a difference. It didn't (sigh). I also ran Disk Warrior on 10.5.1, which is not recommended yet, because they haven't put out an update. However, after doing that, I fixed my permissions with Disk Utility as well. So we got back to the original settings anyway.
    I tried to revert back to Tiger, but when that didn't work, I simply just erased the drive and installed a clean copy of Leopard (after backing up my files, of course).
    I'm happy to report that after a clean install, Leopard is now running incredibly smoothly on my Intel MacBook Pro with 2Ghz and 2GB RAM. So much so, in fact, that I can't believe I had the problems I was having.
    So, my advice to anyone who is having problems going from Tiger to Leopard after and Archive & Install is: just back-up and install a clean copy of Leopard. The biggest problem with this is that you'll lose your applications, so you'd better make sure you have the passwords and either the original CD or the installer for a program as a backup on your external drive.
    Hope my expereince helps someone to make a decision.

    I think everyone would agree that a "fresh" installation will run much better than a hashed upgrade. There are a lot of reasons an upgraded system might not perform properly, from incompatible apps and/or drivers, corrupted prefs files, RAM and hardware issues, etc. Most if not all of these are circumvented when you erase your HD and install the OS "from scratch". Since this is a major upgrade and not a "periodic update" many feel it is better install a "clean" OS rather than attempt to upgrade an existing previous version. On the other hand, many have upgraded without issue. In any case, it's nice that you got your system running the way it should.

  • Eudora and Archive & Install

    In solving a problem with OSX 4.11, if I Archive & Install, will I lose my mail in the Eudora folders, or will they all be archived as well? I'm using Eudora 6.2 paid version. Thanks!

    Hi Kane, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    I uae Eudoea and Archive & Install on may OSes & Macs, it's always preserved.
    The only way it could mess up is Disk Problems.

  • RMAN BACKUPS AND ARCHIVED LOG ISSUES

    제품 : RMAN
    작성날짜 : 2004-02-17
    RMAN BACKUPS AND ARCHIVED LOG ISSUES
    =====================================
    Scenario #1:
    1)RMAN이 모든 archived log들을 삭제할 때 실패하는 경우.
    database는 두 개의 archive destination에 archive file을 생성한다.
    다음과 같은 스크립트를 수행하여 백업후에 archived redo logfile을 삭제한다.
    run {
    allocate channel c1 type 'sbt_tape';
    backup database;
    backup archivelog all delete input;
    Archived redo logfile 삭제 유무를 확인하기 위해 CROSSCHECK 수행시 다음과
    같은 메시지가 발생함.
    RMAN> change archivelog all crosscheck;
    RMAN-03022: compiling command: change
    RMAN-06158: validation succeeded for archived log
    RMAN-08514: archivelog filename=
    /oracle/arch/dest2/arcr_1_964.arc recid=19 stamp=368726072
    2) 원인분석
    이 문제는 에러가 아니다. RMAN은 여러 개의 arhive directory중 하나의
    directoy안에 있는 archived file들만 삭제한다. 그래서 나머지 directory안의
    archived log file들은 삭제되지 않고 남게 되는 것이다.
    3) 해결책
    RMAN이 강제로 모든 directory안의 archived log file들을 삭제하게 하기 위해서는
    여러 개의 채널을 할당하여 각 채널이 각 archive destination안의 archived file을
    백업하고 삭제하도록 해야 한다.
    이것은 아래와 같이 구현될 수 있다.
    run {
    allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape';
    allocate channel t2 type 'sbt_tape';
    backup
    archivelog like '/oracle/arch/dest1/%' channel t1 delete input
    archivelog like '/oracle/arch/dest2/%' channel t2 delete input;
    Scenario #2:
    1)RMAN이 archived log를 찾을 수 없어 백업이 실패하는 경우.
    이 시나리오에서 database를 incremental backup한다고 가정한다.
    이 경우 RMAN은 recover시 archived redo log대신에 incremental backup을 사용할
    수 있기 때문에 백업 후 모든 archived redo log를 삭제하기 위해 OS utility를 사용한다.
    그러나 다음 번 backup시 다음과 같은 Error를 만나게 된다.
    RMAN-6089: archive log NAME not found or out of sync with catalog
    2) 원인분석
    이 문제는 OS 명령을 사용하여 archived log를 삭제하였을 경우 발생한다. 이때 RMAN은
    archived log가 삭제되었다는 것을 알지 못한다. RMAN-6089는 RMAN이 OS 명령에 의해
    삭제된 archived log가 여전히 존재하다고 생각하고 백업하려고 시도하였을 때 발생하게 된다.
    3) 해결책
    가장 쉬운 해결책은 archived log를 백업할 때 DELETE INPUT option을 사용하는 것이다.
    예를 들면
    run {
    allocate channel c1 type 'sbt_tape';
    backup archivelog all delete input;
    두 번째로 가장 쉬운 해결책은 OS utility를 사용하여 archived log를 삭제한 후에
    다음과 같은 명령어를 RMAN prompt상에서 수행하는 것이다.
    RMAN>allocate channel for maintenance type disk;
    RMAN>change archivelog all crosscheck;
    Oracle 8.0:
         RMAN> change archivelog '/disk/path/archivelog_name' validate;
    Oracle 8i:
    RMAN> change archivelog all crosscheck ;
    Oracle 9i:
    RMAN> crosscheck archivelog all ;
    catalog의 COMPATIBLE 파라미터가 8.1.5이하로 설정되어 있으면 RMAN은 찾을 수 없는
    모든 archived log의 status를 "DELETED" 로 셋팅한다. 만약에 COMPATIBLE이 8.1.6이상으로
    설정되어 있으면 RMAN은 Repository에서 record를 삭제한다.

    Very strange, I issue following command in RMAN on both primary and standby machine, but it they don't delete the 1_55_758646076.dbf, I find in v$archived_log, this "/home/oracle/app/oracle/dataguard/1_55_758646076.dbf" had already been applied.
    RMAN> connect target /
    RMAN> CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
    old RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
    new RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON ALL STANDBY;
    new RMAN configuration parameters are successfully stored

  • Stack Underflow and Archive Install fail after 10.4.9 upgrade

    After performing the 10.4.9 upgrade on my Black MacBook Core Duo, each of the Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Entourage, Power Point, and Office Updater and Office Installer) all abort on activation. The System Log indicates a stack underflow:
    Mar 24 11:36:38 Arakis /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Microsoft Word: CGGStackRestore: gstack underflow.
    Attempts to reinstall office fail. Drag and Drop method and Using Office Installer App both fail. The Installer App also aborts with the same error.
    After speaking with Microsoft Support and trying their suggestions for removing prefrence files and MS user directory, all fail with the same results. Last Microsoft reccomendation is to perform Archive and Install, and upgrade only to 10.4.8 using combo update.
    So I Cloned my boot disk before performing Archive and Install (and it's a good thing too).
    I started the Archive and install, and all went well until disk 2, specifically while it was installing iLife demo. When it said two minutes remaining, it froze. Last log entry indicates "specified processes cannot be found". I left it to continue overnight (about 8 hours). It was in the same state in the morning. So I forced a Power down and restarted. It requested disk 1 and began the Archive and Install again, with the same results.
    I was able to boot off my external clone and restore my boot disk. I am now back to 10.4.9, and Office apps still abort with stack underflow.
    One other point. I have a G4 iMac, A Dual G5 Power Mac, and a G5 Mac Mini, all with 10.4.9 and MS Office, and they all work fine. Problem only seems to be on DualCore MacBook, and only Microsoft Office Apps. MS messenger and MS Remote Desktop Client for MAC work. All other apps (apple and 3rd party) also work OK.
    One last thing. After 10.4.9 upgrade, Finder quite often crashes when right clicking or Cotrol-clicking on files or folders in finder windows. Looking at crash dump indicates that this is an unrelated issue, which I will address later, in another rpost.
    Are there any suggestions on how to sucessfully perform an archive and Install? Is it possible to disable the install of optional software like iLife demo? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Jeff Cameron
    DualCore MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    After spending a bit of time, researching this problem, it seems I have been bit by the dyldupdateprebinding bug while updating to 10.4.9. This is outlined in the article located at:
    http://www.unsanity.org/archives/macos_x/shock_andawe.php
    However I am still unable to repair my problem by performing an Archive and install (possibly because of the dyldupdateprebinding). So if anyone can help me do the Archive & install without installing the iLife demo, or any of the optional software, I would be most appreciative.

  • Leopard and its install issues

    Late last night I decided against my better judgement to install onto my main studio computer. I had a week of previous Leopard screw-ups on a dual 1.2 mirror G4 but finally managed to get a working Tiger back onto the G4 and a working Leopard on a different hard drive. On both drives I had to install my apps. I do not trust Leopard -yet. On my 17inch Intel, I had absolutely no problems. So after a month of so I decided to go ahead and install Leopard onto my main computer. I started up on the install DVD, ran permissions to repair any issues, I made a disk image of my hard drive, then did an Archive & Install and did check the box to keep my apps, networking, email etc. However, about 1/2 way thru the install, the install failed saying it was due to faulty media. Mind you I am extremely careful with all media. It suggested I try again, but it would not restart on the DVD so I tried one more time and the DVD mounted and I was able to install. But all my settings, all my apps were in a previous folder and I could find no way to move them over. I am now in the process of wiping the hard drive and rebuilding from the Disk Image. I bought a new Leopard disk and as soon as it is finished rebuilding I am "THINKING" of trying again. So the questions are this. What when wrong in the first place, why did it go wrong? Should I even think of trying to install Leopard again since this OS is obviously not ready for prime time, due to the many non-installer issues on the entire discussion site? The primary reason I was going to "go for it" was due to the enhanced speed it provided- yes it does do that! It is just the installation problems are such that make most users turn away. I am not a novice at this, I consult to other photographers, and I have been an Apple user since 1988 thru thick and thin. Right now Apple maybe making money hand over fist, but their Leopard OS installation is a hit or miss I'd rather miss completely

    Try this method: Boot the Leopard DVD into install mode then after setting language open Disk Utility and partition an external firewire drive. Assuming you would not mind having any type problem on that drive with the disc. Either install Leopard on that firewire partition or restart to Tiger, your choice.
    Any way once booted into either Leopard on the firewire drive or Tiger probably on your main computer then launch Disk Utility, load the Leopard DVD to the desktop. Use the restore function and drag the Leopard OSX portion of the DVD to "source" and the firewire partition as the destination. Should restore in 30 mins. Then once done you can boot into that Leopard partition to install Leopard on the G4 by passing the DVD problems. Make sure you use APM as your partition mapping, find that under options button before partition of the firewire drive. DO NOT use the restore function for the Leopard DVD while it is boot install mode.

  • Missing themes after and archive/install

    After performing an archive/install I can open iDVD, but there are no themes available and the imovie I'm moving over does not play, it's just black. Can anyone can tell me where the themes are stored and if I can access them again?

    The iDVD themes will be stored in Library/Applications Support/iDVD/Themes. See if they are in there. Assuming that they are, try closing iDVD and then trashing the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist. iDVD will create a new .plist file on relaunch. Before relaunching, do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac.

  • Archived install issues

    first off my wireless card has been acting up and was sometimes not being recognized until after a shut down and boot-up. now, after the mac mini installed the latest security update and tried to restart itself a black box popped up telling me to restart the computer i should press the restart button or hold the power button. there was no restart button so i took the other option. upon restart the wireless doesnt even come up in the bar at the top and there are a few settings that have been changed to ones that were set some time ago. its acting kinda like it went to a system restore point. after trying to do an archived install i am left with about 7 gb of hdd left from an original 17. im wondering why i lost so much hdd space, and if i do a clean erase and re-install if that is going to delete by boot camp partition and the windows xp.

    i found out you can delete previous installs safely and have done so to one of them. as for the airport, its hit or miss as to whether or not it will be recognized. when it is recognized it sometimes shows that it id receiving the signal. since it is being found sometimes i'm guessing that its not hardware, and just some really odd softwar glitch. any ideas on how to get this glitch fixed?
    thanks,
    zach

  • Boot and OS install issues with K8T Neo2 F

    Can anybody shed light on my difficulties?
    Assembled a new computer yesterday.  First power-on produced nothing except 3 (2,3,4) red leds on d-bracket.  After reading several postings, tried the following:
    Swapped around memory modules;
    Did repeated JBAT1 data clears (NB if you happen to get a board with the V1.0 user guide, note that the JBAT1 diagram appears upside down - pin one is closest to the SATA slots (page 2 - 24).  The MSI downloadable user guide (V1.2) has that error corrected (page 2-25)
    The only memory config that doesn’t produce three red leds is with one 512 stick installed in channel 3 (green).
    Can now get to the point where Windows XP boots to the point where install is about to start, and then advises me that it can’t find a hard disk!
    Have dis/reconnected the sata cable (using different cables) and checked the bios setup but can find nothing strange except that setup refers to the hard disk as BBS 0 (RAID) ST3120827AS - the reference to “RAID” worries me.

    Paul, there have been people here that have had to strip their  system down to the bare minimum hardware to get windows to complete the install, so try that. I had trouble completing my windows install as long as I was trying to install the RAID drivers at F6. So I ignored the prompt at F6 and windows installed fine. Then I installed my RAID drivers afterward.
    These things are extremely sensitive when it comes to memory. I had the same problem you are having. Mine was cured by a BIOS upgrade to ver. 3.3. The simplest way to do it is to use "Live Watch". It will locate BIOS ver 3.3 for you, and download it to a floppy along with the flash program, and make it bootable all in one easy step. Then all you have to do is boot from the floppy you just made, and follow the instructions. Very simple.
    I've read all these stickies and posts now going way back, and IMHO anyone who wants to use RAM thats not on the list should do so at their own risk. Interestingly enough, the recommended list from MSI is not the same as the list from AMD. And the memory manufacturers have their own lists of RAM that they say will work with this board. I'm using 2x 512 sticks of GEIL from the MSI recommended list.
    Check out these links to see what I mean. By the way, if you haven't noticed, most of the older posts about memory problems are with respect to the K8T Neo FIS2R which is a socket 754 single channel board, so although they are similar, they're not the same. My point is just because his K8TNeo FIS2R works fine with brand "X" RAM doesn't mean your K8T NEO2 FIR will.

  • JRE 1.4.2_04 install and un-install issues

    I was having problems running a Java app and I decided to un-install and re-install my JRE. I am running Windows XP Pro SP1 and IE6 SP1 as well. I went to "Add remove programs" and I noticed I had both of the following:
    Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_03
    Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_04
    I uninstalled revision 3 ok, but unistalling revision 4 gives me this error:
    "Failed to extract file 'Dll_ini' from binary table"
    I get the same exact error trying to re-install Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.2_04
    I'm stuck here... can anyone lend a hand?

    So... 14 hours later...
    I found a mirror site that had JRE 1.4.2_03 and I downloaded and installed it and I was able to run the apps, but I still could not un-install revision _04
    I did these 5 things and was able to get JRE 1.4.2_04 installed. Actaully, once the Sun license acceptance page came up on install I canceled it because the errors Iwas getting previously happened prior to the License page, so I knew it work. I un-installed revision _03 and then installed revision _04 with the hopes of squelching further errors.
    1. Check and make sure msiexec.exe is not in memory. If it is, and no setup is running at the time, end that task and restart the system. Alternatively, try START, RUN, type "msiexec /unregister", OK and then START, RUN, type "msiexec /regserver", OK
    2. Clean out the Temp directory. C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME HERE>\Local Settings\Temp
    3. Delete the C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver folder and then rerun the setup.
    4. The other potential cause is a missing Stdole.tlb, stdole32.tlb, or stdole2.tlb file. These are core Windows files and should exist on your machine.
    5. I ran SFC.EXE, I did have core WinXP Pro files missing. See MS Knowledge Base article Q310747 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310747

  • OEI Install and Re-install issue

    Hi all,
    I have a user that has uninstalled and re-installed OEI, and now he is getting a runtime error
    Runtime error '5';
    Invalid Procedure call or Argument
    Looking at his screenshot, it looks like it is when he is trying to sign-in to CRM OD.
    Appreciate your help and expertise.

    I had that happen to one of my users. The cause was firewall (Cisco Security Agent) settings on the user’s machine blocking Outlook/OEI access to CRM On Demand.
    Resolution: Log into user’s machine as an administrator and clear all of the user’s firewall settings that are blocking the connection. In the Cisco Security Agent firewall, under Untrusted Applications, clear the log by highlighting all entries and clicking the Delete key. This will require the user to respond to the firewall the next time he/she uses Outlook Email Integration (OEI).
    Hope this helps!

  • 2.1 software Restore and app install issues

    I'm pretty sure a lot of people have had this problem, but when I was installing 2.1 software I had an unknown error and my ipod was frozen on the logo screen, so I unplugged it after like 20 minutes, and of course... it was all wiped out, so I am restoring it which makes me pretty mad.
    Also - Ever since the app store came out I can NOT install apps directly on my iPod...
    Every time I go to the app store on my ipod and download an app, it downloads, and installs, but then gives me the error message where I have to go to itunes and download it from there, and then sync my ipod again. It's really annoying and hasn't been fixed (well I'm not sure what the 2.1 update will do).
    But yeah, that's about it.

    I had similar problems. I updated to iTunes 8 and iPOD 2.1. I turned on the Genius feature. I also got message that iPod would not sync with unknown error 13213 I think. I restored iPOD and then reloaded (took hrs) only for same error. When this error occurred iPod thought it was still syncing over and over again. I turned off genius feature and eureka no more problems.
    Other than having a few applications like the white-page (which says not compatible with this iPod everything else works fine.
    Clearly Apple have a bug in the software, I hope there is enough others like us to get it fixed.

  • STP 1 and leopard install issue

    Hi,
    i have a retail box of STP1 and it will not install on a brand new imac. It keeps telling me the serial no is wrong when it quite clearly isn't wrong at all.
    As I say this is a retail box. I previously had it on another intel imac, but i had migrated it across form a G5 imac rather than done a install form the disc..
    Tried this a number of times now.. Is this because leopard doesn't support STP1? I only want to install it because I have a crossgrade to FCS1 package i bought with it.. I don't actually want to use STP 1 itself..
    Pete

    Hi,
    i just realized (duh) that as it was a new iMac i could call support. Anyway I was unaware that all i needed to do was slip in the FCS disks and it would ask me for the previous (STP) serial number..
    I thought they had to be installed in order they were purchased over time.. dumb, I know..
    Anyway that got around the problem.. the pro-apps support guy said this new machine wouldn't allow the install of STP1 'cos it wouldn't run under Leopard.
    All sweet now.. thanks all.

  • Fresh install of Leopard and CS3 Install issues...

    I'm sorry to beat a dead horse, but I've done a bunch of searches and can't seem to get a definitive as to why CS3 won't run... specifically Illustrator and InDesign. Here's the backstory...
    I have a G5 Dual 2.0 (with 4mb ram). When running Tiger, CS3 works fine. I wanted to upgrade to Leopard, so I backed up my drive to an external drive. Did the complete nuke to install Leopard. Updated Leopard to the latest update, whilst fixing permission along the way. I did the install of CS3, and then the updates. Now, InDesign crashes on launch, and Illustrator will open... sometimes, but it will then crash when a new document is created, an existing file is double-clicked, etc.
    I have run the clean deinstall procedure and tried to install again... same results.
    Suggestions please! I want to use Leopard but at this rate I might not be able to.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    Hey thanx for the replies Buko and Neil. I went back through my notes and I did install in the correct order CS3 then CS4. So much going on it is a good thing that I made notes, too much multi-tasking. Anyway, I guess I should correct myself and say that I installed CS3 then CS4 with no problems. I began to launch the various apps and found that AE CS3 and SB CS3 were not recognized, the CS4 versions were okay. They both had the NO symbol (circle with diagonal line) and would give an error when I tried to launch. The error was something along the lines of "software is not supported by this architecture". At first I thought it may be something with the sound settings or perhaps some minor glitch with the OS because I did not receive any warnings during installation. I ran the OS updater until it said I was up to date then started working on the Adobe updates. I never got an update for the two apps in question so I did a manual update on AE CS3 only to get the warning that the updater could not find the app. This got me thinking about uninstalling everything so I popped in the CS3 install cd and took a look at "reinstall" feature which listed AE and SB as not currently installed. I ran the installer for each app and after a lot of disk swapping between CS3 and CS4 it worked. All is well again.
    Now some may ask why did I put myself through all of this torture? This is for a classroom environment and we are offering training on both versions of the Adobe software. This is still easier than reimaging all of the class machines each time the class changes. I am looking forward to playing around with Time Machine to see if and how I can implement it into my workflow.
    Neil, I figured that I would not be able to install Tiger but I was hoping. I have ghost images of previous builds that would make my life a lot easier if they would work. I actually got the image onto the new iMac but performance was flakey.
    Thanx again for the input. I hope that my experiences can help someone else. Any questions feel free to email me.

  • CS5 uninstall and re-install issue

    I am trying to uninstall Adobe Photoshop CS5, but I cannot seem to do this.  If I go to programmes and uninstall it I get an error message:
    It does not want to re-install it either.  I have the Adobe creative suite 5 Design Premium disc.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks Yolande'

    I get an error message:
    What's the exact error message (and error code if there is one)?
    Try running the Adobe Cleaner Tool
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
    Then reboot. Then try re-installing.
