Login Background Change?

Does anyone know how to change the background picture on the login screen?

I downloaded Onyx but can't see any obvious place where I can change the login picture from the purple aurora thing to something else. I can change other things about the login screen, but I don't see anything about the background. Any ideas?

  • How to change OS X Lion (10.7) login background

    I just installed OS X Lion (10.7).  I would like to change the login background on my iMac.  The gray linen is too plain and boring.
    Does anyone know a sure-fire way to change the login background?
    My google search showed how to do this in Snow Leopard, but that process doesn't work with Lion.
    Thx,
    Bickabah

    Thank-you so much, your procedure worked perfectly!  I am now the proud owner of a lovely beach scene, rather than the ugly gray textured screen.
    Some follow-up information for other non-techie users (like me) of this technique.
    1.  I couldn't find the appropriate folder that was mentioned (I believe that it is a hidden folder) until I used the "Go To Folder" option available in the Finder under the "Go" menu.
    Finder/Go/Go to Folder/System/Library/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources.
    2.  I'm not a graphics person so 72 pixels per inch doesn't help me out (I'm just saying, no offense intended in the least).  To resize my image I used the program called RapidoResizer (free) available from:  http://www.adnx.com/software/mac-platform.html.  Once the program was open, I set the "preferences" for my image to match my LCD display ratio (1440X900) in the "Display" settings, located in the "System Preferences" folder.  Of course, I also renamed the picture file to match the name that you gave in your instructions.
    3.  The replacement of the old file with my newly created file was seamless, again owing to your instructions about needing to "Authorize" the replacement.
    P.S.  When I replaced my gray screen, I also made visible (very transparently, in a grayish colour) an Apple logo, and the "sleep", "restart" and "log out" icons at the middle and bottom of my screen respectiviely.
    Thanks again.

  • Desktop Background changes on it's own after login

    Hi everyone!
    Ok I have a small but annoying issue with my iMac.
    First thing's first, I am using OS X Leopard 10.5.6. I have also enabled "Enable fast user switching"
    in System Preferences under the User Accounts menu.
    I have my desktop background set to "Change picture every 5mins" & that is working perfectly fine,
    however I notice that when I go to the Login window by clicking the "fast user switching" icon on
    the top right-hand menu, then logging in back to my account, my desktop background changes to
    a default picture that my computer selects each time I log back in. This picture is not even in the
    folder of pictures that I use for my "Change picture every 5mins" setting. By the way this picture is one of the pre-loaded ones from Apple; it's from the nature series, the one seen in the latest 17" Macbook Pro ad, anyone seen it? Here's the link: http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/#ad
    Is anyone else having the same issue? I would appreciate any help anyone can provide!
    Thanks!
    zwan

    Hi lewisspindlove,
    Thanks for your input,
    it doesn't happen when i have my desktop in a "single picture" mode, and,
    it doesn't happen on other accounts, because besides mine(Admin), there is only
    the Guest account and this does not occur on that account.
    I tried your method of removing the wallpapers folder from Libary, then I
    noticed that the computer will select ANY image which I last used when in
    "single picture" mode, not "Change picture every 5mins" mode.
    For example, let's say I have a picture which I saved in the Documents folder,
    and I use that in "single picture" mode; after which I revert back to the folder which contains the pictures I want for "Change picture every 5mins" mode (which is stored somewhere else).
    If i go to the Login window & log back in again, the computer selects the picture
    I last used (the one in the Documents folder) as my background, BUT, after 5mins the picture changes to the ones I'm using for "Change picture every 5mins".
    I hope I'm not confusing everyone!
    This is a complicated & weird but ANNOYING problem!
    Any ideas if an Archive & Install would help? Does that erase all of my stored data on my HDD?

  • Changed Lion Login Background Image No Longer Works

    Following instructions posted in various communities, I was able to substitute my own image for the dull gray Lion login background image (replacing the file NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png).  But since upgrading to OS X 10.7.4 the other day, the login image has reverted back to the standard Lion image, even though my substituted file is still in the folder /System/Library/Frameworks/AppKit.framework/Versions/C/Resources.
    Anybody figure out a fix?
    Thanks.

  • 10.7.4 Update disables my custom login background

    I've been using a custom login background tile by the usual method; replacing NSTexturedFullScreenBackgroundColor.png in System-->Library-->Frameworks-->AppKit.framework-->Versions-->C-->Resources. After the 10.7.4 update, my custom tile is still in the correct place, but the system is displaying the stock login background. Anyone else seeing this?

    To be honest, this was never an officially supported "feature" under Lion, and it is fairly well known (by me anyway) that as such, it is possibly going to be broken in a future update.
    I do agree that it is necessary in some environments to assure the end user knows in no uncertain terms that the machine they are logging into is not "their property". The login text is insufficient for some users, as "who takes the time to read stuff?" (shrug)  A custom login screen background introduces the user to that condition without assuming a level of attention that is not in evidence.
    I also agree you should not HAVE to be a developer to change the basic OS environmental characteristics like backgrounds. It is, at the least, annoying.

  • Login background picture ?

    Is there a way to make the user login background the same as my wall paper picture that I used from iphoto ?
    I looked in just about every part of preferences and can't find anything.

    The Terminal is an application in your Utilities folder, and allows 'command line' interaction with the Mac OS, using Unix-based commands. Click on the link in my post above, and scroll to the section "Change the Login Screen Wallpaper Image in Leopard 10.5".
    EDIT: If you're using Tiger (just noticed your signature says 10.4.11) then follow the instructions for that. If so, you can skip Terminal, and just rename a jpg file and put it in the location that the OS will look for it.

  • Change login icon, change login icon

    How do I change the login icon?  Its a fortune cookie.  Also isn't there any easy way to change the background.  I really liked the old login background, the grey is just too boring.

  • [SOLVED] GNOME 3.16 + GDM Login & Background Image

    It's being surprisingly difficult to understand what's needed in order to have a login screen that does not contain the default noise PNG as background.
    Apparently now the default theme is a gresource so common css overwrite don't seem to make it.
    How did you folks solved this problem?
    Apologies if already discussed, it's just that the problem is NOT the GNOME Desktop Background, and NOT the lock screen, just ONLY the gdm background screen during login.
    Other tricks seem to not work neither:
    sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver picture-uri '/new/picture.png'
    Thanks for any sort of help with this and Best Regards

    I finally got this to work. The wiki needs updating as of now it only states that gnome shell theme is now in a binary format, but not how to extract and repack it afterwards...
    Anyway this is how i got it to work.
    Use this script to extract gnome-shell-theme inside your choosen working directory
    extractgst.sh
    #! /bin/sh
    #change workdir to suit your system
    workdir=/home/merlin/temp/GS/test
    gst=/usr/share/gnome-shell/gnome-shell-theme.gresource
    mkdir theme
    for r in `gresource list $gst`; do
    gresource extract $gst $r >$workdir${r/#\/org\/gnome\/shell/}
    done
    Once you've run the script you should have the theme extracted to the theme folder which was created inside your workdir.
    Now you can proceed to add a background image to this folder and edit gnome-shell.css by following the wiki page.
    You must now create the file gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml inside the theme directory. Simply copy paste the xml code below into  gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml,  making sure to change the line that refers to your background image. On my system the background image is named login-background.jpg
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gresources>
    <gresource prefix="/org/gnome/shell/theme">
    <file>calendar-arrow-left.svg</file>
    <file>calendar-arrow-right.svg</file>
    <file>calendar-today.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-focused.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-off-focused.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox-off.svg</file>
    <file>checkbox.svg</file>
    <file>close-window.svg</file>
    <file>close.svg</file>
    <file>corner-ripple-ltr.png</file>
    <file>corner-ripple-rtl.png</file>
    <file>dash-placeholder.svg</file>
    <file>filter-selected-ltr.svg</file>
    <file>filter-selected-rtl.svg</file>
    <file>gnome-shell.css</file>
    <file>gnome-shell-high-contrast.css</file>
    <file>logged-in-indicator.svg</file>
    <file>login-background.jpg</file>
    <file>more-results.svg</file>
    <file>no-events.svg</file>
    <file>no-notifications.svg</file>
    <file>noise-texture.png</file>
    <file>page-indicator-active.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-inactive.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-checked.svg</file>
    <file>page-indicator-hover.svg</file>
    <file>process-working.svg</file>
    <file>running-indicator.svg</file>
    <file>source-button-border.svg</file>
    <file>summary-counter.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-off-us.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-off-intl.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-on-us.svg</file>
    <file>toggle-on-intl.svg</file>
    <file>ws-switch-arrow-up.png</file>
    <file>ws-switch-arrow-down.png</file>
    </gresource>
    </gresources>
    now the only thing left to do is to run
    cd ./theme
    glib-compile-resources gnome-shell-theme.gresource.xml
    It will create a gresource file that you can swap in /usr/share/gnome-shell.
    Good luck and hopefully I will save many some headache. Took me quite a while to get the whole thing working

  • My Mac's background changed to white and i can't change it back

    Dear anybody,
    Yesterday I plugged in my external harddisk, and I just moving some folders from one partition to another. then in the middle of progress, it opened an error window and the external hd disappeared from my desktop icon and finder. I tried to plugged out and plugged in again but it's not recognized until I restarted it. and the process of restarting takes about 5minutes (it's not usual since I just need about 30-60secs to reboot my mac). then I logged in and my background changed to white. I thought it was missing my bg pict, then I searched for the picture and set it again as desktop background but nothing happened. it's still white. but the strange is when I press f9 or f10 button (expose), I saw the picture on my background and a lot of windows exposed, then when I click one of the window, it disappeared again, changed to white.
    so, please anybody who had ever gotten this kinda problem, help me out. Thanks for your attention!

  • Background Change Picture Feature Not Working

    I have had my macbook pro for about 6 months now and my change background feature worked fine when I first got it. I could add folders of pictures and tell it change ever 5 seconds and it worked. Over time, I messed with my dock settings and background settings with other third party programs and stuff and decided I didn't like them so I would just go back to the features built into Leopard. I tried to do a random, change every 5 seconds background change folder deal the other day and it never would change. I tried doing it on the default folders like the apple images and the nature ones and stuff but it would never change. I can still add folders. I can click the option of random order and change every x times. When I close out my system preferences, it resets what I did. I go back to my background panel and they are unchecked. How can I fix this and is anyone else having this problem?

    delete the file com.apple.desktop.plist from homedirectory/Library/Preferences and log out/in. You background settings should be set to defaults and you should be able to change them as you like.

  • Background changes for every button?

    Hello, I am using encore 5.1 and I was wondering if it's possible to have the background change every time I go from one button to the next withtout actually changing menus?
    I would like to do something like in the video I'm linking (watch only the first 10 seconds to get an idea of what I'm talking about).  Granted, in the video, what's running is a program and not a dvd menu, but is something similar possible in encore?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKMu-bybpI0
    I know I can make it so I go on a button, click enter, this brings me to a new menu with a new background, but I want to cut on the amount of menus.  I like the idea of the background changing automatically without having to go to a new menu.
    Thanks for your time and help!

    When using dupe Menus and Auto Activate, I strongly recommend that one sketch out the flowchart first, and also think about using Button and Menu names, that relate directly to where they need to Link. With a bunch of Buttons, it can get involved pretty quickly. With a bit of planning, things will be much easier. I usually will layout my flowchart in Adobe Illustrator, and use the images of my Menus, in that image. It really helps me plan things. However, using AI might be overkill for some Projects, and a pencil and paper would do the job.
    Good luck, and remember, if played on a computer, the effect will not be so fluid, as the user must click on the "original" Menu to get to the "dupe" Menu with the different background - just a limitation of Auto Activate on a computer. In a DVD player, it will be pretty seamless, and can look beautiful. I use this general technique to create what appear to be Sub-picture Highlights, that are really graphics.

  • Problem in testing UI add-on after login method changes

    Dear All Experts/Gurus,
    I have changed login method to a new one of a UI Add-on (because I just have SDK implementation version license). Using add-on identifier generator, I generate the add-on identifier string and put on the source code :
    Public Sub GetApplication()
        Set oSboGuiApi = New SAPbouiCOM.SboGuiApi
        oSboGuiApi.Connect Command
        oSboGuiApi.AddonIdentifier = "4CC8B8ACE0273A61489738C94047855DE8768CDD37F64D4F11E82759A542BD545D5A6E4D50A39B9E9FB20FA944FF35C5B60FE779"
        Set SboApplication = oSboGuiApi.GetApplication
    End Sub
    After recompile it, I want to prove it by sending it to other friend's (work mate) PC/notebook with different license and hardware key. The error message when installing/starting the add-on is :
    Runtime error '-7200 (ffffe3e0)':
    Connection - Connection string doesn't match UI development work mode.
    If the error happened, I just guessed that the login method change is success. I also read the SAP new license mechanism states that if the add-on is developed using SDK implementation version, it will only be able to install/use in the customer network PC and so on, ....etc.
    The problem is that I am not fully sure if my guess is correct. I want to conduct some testing. I tried to request new temprary license with compatibility license is over within 2 days, but unsuccessful. Would you please to tell me if there is another way to prove/test that  the add-on will be able to start after the compatibility license for add-on expires ?
    I appreciate your answer so much. TIA
    Rgds,

    Hi Steve,
    The AddOnIdentifier you obtain by selecting Development or Implementation options while creating the AddOnIdentifier depends on the license manager.
    If you change the license manager to another machine or someone connected to a different license manager try to run your code you it will not work.
    It is quite clear in the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/13d67f3c-0e01-0010-eba2-cab13a5979c2">License Guide</a>:
    <b>Development License</b>
    This license is required for partners developing add-ons and the only license allowing distribution. <i><u>In Development license, the license key is shared by all developers connected to the same License Service</u></i>. The License Service allocates licenses on the basis of first-come, first-served.
    <b>Implementation License</b>
    This license is required for customers intending to develop small modifications or add-ons for their own use using only the UI API.
    <i><u>Add-ons developed under the Implementation license cannot run with a different License Service other than the one that was used for their development</u></i>. The Implementation license does not allow
    distribution to third-parties.
