Login Freeze HELp

Hello guys,
I've tried login in with my password and then all of a sudden it seem like the screen is frozen, It accepts the password but it doesn't log on anywhere, just freeze on the login page. all the options are grayed out.
What do i do??

Thats wierd,
that just happened to me but I am now logged in! Alright, have you tried restarting? When this same thing happened to me, you can press the power button once and it will give you a list of options - shut down, restart, cancel, or sleep. That is a system preference thing, so you may not get the same thing. Anyway, if you do, press Shutdown. It may take a while so it did with me. Do not do anything until it completely shuts down. Restart. Log in. Have patience, I waited a little and then it logged in for me. If that doesnt work. Or you can not get the "shut down, restart, cancel, or sleep" window, hold down the power button for about 5 seconds. It will force the computer to shut down. Then, try loggin back in. Good luck,
LAPTOPER

  • MBP freezes at login - Please help!

    hey all!
    please,please, please help me...
...just now it started that my mbp crashes (or freezes) at the login.
yes, i have installed all updates and firmware etc. but days or weeks ago and till now it worked without any problems.
i get to the login screen and see the cursor blink once and then it is gone and i can't sign in.
i did a restart in safemode and repaired the rights and checked the volume (which is ok) but still it freezes.
adobe version cue is not installed (or any other startup item).
i'm quite new to the mac so could anybody please help me out here?
    thank you!

Oddly, mine is doind the same. It was working fine on Monday. I left it overnight to let the UNIX processes run overnight.
Had a day off yesterday. Came in this morning to find the machine locked solid and roasting hot!!
I have used the install disc and repaired permissions and repaired the disc. No use.
I have reinstalled the OS from the supplied discs and run the updates and still it freezes at login. I get as far as selecting my user and typing the password and then it freezes.
I'm now going through the safe boot option. After that I'm going to have to rebuild my account since it is the only thing left.
I don't understand how the machine can chew itself up so much overnight that it hangs.
I have to be honest and say that I'm less impressed with the MBP. My old 700MHz G3 iBook works better than this.
The powersupply (I think) whines at me.
The wireless connection is a best, flakey
The OS seems to want to crumble under it's own weight.
Oh...and now the it has rebooted it can't get past the 'Starting Mac OS X....' screen.
If anyone has any bright ideas I would appreciate them. I'm now going to boot in single user mode and do apples recommended pokes to see what happens.

  • New Macbook Pro 2012 keeps freezing (HELP!!)

It keeps freezing, it happens after a few hours, sometimes after a few minutes!!
First, the app (google chroome, safari, skype)  and then, the finder... I can move the cursor but it doesn't respond, the beach ball won't stop spinning and I had to force shut down by holding the power button (not once...two, three or four times a day)
I've done everything, disk utility almost every day (repair permissions), resetting the pram... I don't know what else to do... I was thinking about buying 8GB RAM (2x 4) but I don't want to waste my money if it's not going to work...

  • Mac keeps freezing help!!!

Im have huge problem right now. I have only had my mac for about a month and this is the first real problem i have come across. I shut down my mac for a few minutes because it was freezing on me. I come back and reboot it up, login, and when i get to my desktop it asks me to send a report because of a problem, but everytime i do this a message comes up on the screen and says i have to restart the computer by holding the power button and press it again to turn on. I have done this several times it has always ended up with the same result either the computer freezes and i have to reboot or I send the report and the same message comes up telling me to turn off the computer. what is wrong and what do i need to do to fix it

There is a better (macbook pro) forum for this.
Never want to just restart without doing a Safe Boot, or use Lion Recovery instead and Disk Utility. Plus you may need to reload the OS or restore or both.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    http://www.apple.com/support/lion/installrecovery/
Need to find why it froze first off and go from there, but also to fix and repair the directory that can happen from forced or hard restarts.

  • IDVD 08 Keeps Freezing, Help!!

So about 2-3 months ago, I had the same problem with my iDVD 08 and I tried everything to fix it. However nothing worked for me and after countless calls to apple, I just gave up on the application. Now I find that I need this application because of the media projects I am working on. I'll do my best to explain the problem.
When I open iDVD 08, it displays the normal start menu (new project, open project, etc.) and I click new project and a window pops up, displaying the normal: Save As:.................. and Where:..........
When I click ok, the application stays open, but I don't see a window. When I attempt to close iDVD, it freezes and I have to force quit. I sent those problem report things over 10 times now and I've tried every thing that apple has told me to do. I've tried deleting the old themes, reinstalling iDVD 08, but nothing seems to be working. I'm sure that I'm not the first person with this problem because I've visited other forums with people asking similar questions (no, there were no responses to those questions). Any advice?

Suggestion: let's try setting up a separate user account and launching / running iDvd from the new account (if you haven't already).
Adding a new user account to your computer
You can create individual user accounts for each person who uses your computer. Each new user has a separate home folder and can adjust his or her own preferences without affecting other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add + and type the user's name.
If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.

  • Database login freeze -----urgent

    Hi,
I login to the database, sometimes it is OK, sometimes not. Now we have four database schema. Each database has this problem---when I login to the database, the screen freeze. Can anybody help me solve this problem ? Look forward to hearing from you.
    Thank you very much
    John

we had the same problem, after trying just about everything the problem ended up being the "Deep Smart Power Down" option.
To Disable Deep Smart Powerdown: Right Click My Computer Click Manage Click Device Manager Right Click the Intel Ethernet Adapter and select Properties Select the Advanced Tab Under the Deep Smart Powerdown option make sure the value is set to Disabled Click OK

  • Leopard 10.5.2 Upgrade To 10.5.4 Login Freeze

As I could not find the problem or the "solution" to this anywhere, I wanted to post it to help others.
We purchased a MacBook Pro 15" for our COO and I was tasked with connecting it to our Windows AD environment. Binding to the network worked well, but I was attempting to configure mapping of our network drives (yay for the automator ... that's not so automatic) and ran into the freeze that occurs when trying to change Login Items (BTW, turning off parental controls does NOT fix this). At this point, I checked for an OS upgrade and found that the current OS is 10.5.4 and the system is running 10.5.2, so I installed the new OS Version.
After the OS Upgrade to 10.5.4 (which appeared to go fine) when I attempted to login with my domain information as I had previously done, the computer accepted the credentials, began processing and then froze with all of the buttons on the login box disabled. I could not abort the process so I powered down the computer.
At this point, I re-booted and experienced the same issue again, so I re-booted into safe mode and the computer would not pass the blue screen and the power button would not work, so I removed the battery. When re-booting into normal mode, it accepted credentials without issue.
Although I can't proove it (the error log was not helpful), my feeling is that this has to do with the combination of network binding and the Airbook connection. I had a lot of trouble configuring the airbook connection and even when it appears to connect, it has in fact connected to the DHCP of the wireless AP instead of the DHCP installed on the PDC. Make sure that you disable DHCP on a wireless AP if you are trying to use it to connect to a domain network.
Moral of the story: Unbind a macbook before you upgrade the OS (or at least make sure your airbook connection works properly first!)
BTW: I have yet to solve the freeze that occurs when you attempt to change login items, does anyone know if 10.5.4 will solve it?

You might try downloading it from here...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1052comboupdate.html
    ...and install it manually.

  • Keyboard & Mousepad Just Freeze - HELP PLEASE

    Hey all,
Well, maybe it's a known issue but still I couldn't find any solution for this. I have a MacBook Pro 2.53 Core 2 Duo, 4GB. Running Leopard OSX. During working around with the mac and internet, the keyboard & mousepad just freezes - sometimes I wait a while (30-40 seconds I guess) and it comes right back, but sometimes (and lately most of the time) it freezes and doesn't come back no matter how long i wait for it, up to a point where I have no choice but to restart by holding the power button long enough. Besides the fact that this is very unhealthy, any work I got is just lost (if unsaved ofcourse).
    ANY help would be great.
    Thank's alot.

    Hi
Have you had a little spill recently? One you may not know about perhaps? It's also possible the Top Case has developed a fault? Or at least the trackpad and keypboard parts of it has.
Something you could quickly try is create another admin account. :ogin with it and see if the problems remains. If it goes away login with your account and create an untitled folder on the desktop. Navigate to your /Users/Home/Library/Preferences folder select all the files except for com.apple.mail.plist and com.apple.dock.plist and put them into the newly created Untitled folder. Restart the mac. If any application or utility thereafter moans about a missing preference file/.plist you can easily pop it back in.
If there has been no spill and if the problem persists and if the laptop is still under warranty take it to your nearest Apple Repair Specialist. They should be able to diagnose and troubleshoot it further for you as well as replacing the parts.

  • Tiger Login Freezing, Local and Roaming Profiles

I'm having problems with the login screen. Both server and emac are using the newest 10.4.4 updates and users regardless of logging in to local accounts or accounts on the server are freezing after pressing the "Login" button on the login screen.
generally speaking the user can login at least once per restart. the problem tends to occur if users logout and then attempt to login another user.
wondering if anyone has seen this problem
it only seems to happen with emacs (different gens) running 10.4
imacs and other machines running the same system/image to not appear to suffer the problem.

    update:
even updating to 10.4.6 which has become available since the problem first came about there have been no less instances of this happening.
    any help would be great.

  • MBP slow/freezing HELP!

    Hello guys!
    I have this MBP 13'' Mac OS X 10.7.5 running a 2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAMs and 500GB storage.
The problem started yesterday when I was typing on Word and I copy pasted something from the net (chrome browser) then it froze.
I waited for around 5minutes and still frozen with the spinning wheel, then I decided to turn it off by pressing power for 10 seconds restarted my
MBP then now it running so slow on start-up and apps are very slow to open like around 5 minutes. Every action that I try to do like clicking on the
apple in the upper left it freezes showing a spinning wheel and it will take time to show the drop down options.
I checked disk utility and it said that HD is ok, done verify/permission verify and repair.
I checked the activity monitor noting the ram/CPU usage and its normal it even tells that 2GB of ram is not use.
It shows not responding in the activity monitor if you open an app for around 5mins then it opens or it will crash.
I already done the 2 kinds of reset and did not work.
BUT it opens normally in Safe mode.
    Please help. thanks!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press thereturn key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press returnthree times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Photoshop CC 2014/Intuos tablet causing PS to freeze, HELP!!

    Hi folks,
I've recently run into a serious issue that has stopped my workflow in its tracks. It has to do with some bizarre incompatibility issues between Photoshop CC 2014, Wacom Intuos tablets and Windows 8.1. I do not exactly know which one of those is the culprit, so here are some details.
The issue occurs whenever I use any keyboard shortcut involving the control key (step backwards is the big one) and the brush tool at the same time. If I try to make a brush stroke before fully releasing the shortcut keys (especially longer brush strokes), Photoshop completely freezes. It stays frozen until I move the stylus far away enough from the tablet that it no longer detects hovering; after a moment, the program will begin to function normally again. This doesn't ALWAYS happen; it seems to be more common when working in a document with many layers. If I open a new blank document, I can't get the glitch to work at all, but if I create a stack of layers with a few brush marks in each, the glitch can be reproduced easily almost 100 percent of the time.
    Some more details:
-It happens with all Intuos drivers currently available via Wacom, including the ones on the legacy drivers page.
-The glitch is ONLY present in Photoshop CC 2014, not in older versions. However, I do not wish to roll back because I am working on a Surface Pro 3 and want to be able to pan and zoom using touch, which was only introduced in this version.
-It happens on all computers running Window 8/8.1, as well as the Windows 10 Technical Preview (I work for a tech company and have access to all varieties of test machines). Curiously, it does not seem to occur in Windows 7. I am able to reproduce the glitch immediately on every non-Win7 machine I install PS CC 2014 on. However, I require Windows 8+ for its touch-friendly features on the Surface.
-The glitch happens with (seemingly) all Intuos tablets, not just my Intuos 3 tablet. I actually purchased a new Intuos 4 from Best Buy to see if that would resolve the issue, but it persisted exactly the same.
-It does NOT occur when drawing on the screen with the N-Trig pen that came with my SP3 -- it ONLY occurs when using a Wacom tablet.
    And here's the big one:
-De-selecting "Use Windows Ink" under the "mapping" tab in my Intuos settings causes the issue to go away entirely, but also disables pressure sensitivity, so this is not a viable option.
My suspicion is that this is some weird incompatibility between Photoshop CC 2014 and the Windows Ink API (my understanding is that this version of Photoshop ditched the old Wintab API for Windows Ink). Hopefully it will be ironed out in a future PS CC update.
In the mean time, does anybody have any ideas? I'm also posting at some Photoshop forums, but I figured someone here might be able to help. This is driving me absolutely up the wall.

You fail to mention which Wacom Intuos and which Wacom drivers have installed.  I do not have your problems on my Windows 7 Workstation or my Surface Pro 3 Windows 8.1  with the Intuos Pro with Wacom version 6.3.11w3 device driver.  I have no problem using Shortcuts like undo and redo or using my intuos gestures for them here is my PS system info for my surface Pro 3

  • New Users Not Appearing On Login List - Help!

    Hello Mac geniuses,
I run a 10.3.9 network in an elementary school, and I since returning from summer vacation I have had problems with many of my client eMacs not displaying the names of users I have added in WGM. These eMacs are also still displaying the names of accounts I have deleted.
If anyone is kind enough to help a stranger, I have copied below the transcripts of my email exchanges with an Apple tech, in my struggle to get my school functioning again. (I have placed them in the correct order so the 1st email is on top and the last on bottom. The tech's name is John and I am using "Jon" to make it slightly less confusing!).
My very grateful thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
    Jon

    Hi John,
After deleting and adding users in WGM, some login screens still show deleted users and do not display the new users.
I tried deleting the MCX cache via NetInfoManager on the clients, and even restarted the server, but it has not affected several machines.
    Any advice?
Server: Dual 1Ghz G4 (Mirror Door) running Panther Server 10.3.9
    Clients: eMacs running 10.3.9
    Thanks in advance.

    Jon,
Go into the client as the admin account.
    Delete /Library/Preferences/Directory Service
Restart and setup Directory Access in Utilities
Let me know if that works.

    Jon,
Are you sure the machine is on the network and talking to your
    server?
Go into Dir Access and uncheck LDAP and readd the server.

    Hi John,
Yeah, they're on the network, students can log in using the "Other" option, I can connect to the server and mount shared folders, etc.
I did as you said, rebooted, still no updated list.

    Jon,
    Netinfo is probably corrupt.
Follow these directions to blow out Netinfo to create a new one.
    Bind back to server.

When working with NetInfo, which we are and hope to have some more articles on in the near future, it is important to know
how to back up to a previous version of your database.
    1. First, the most brutal way of recovering from a nonfunctional database.
Boot into single user mode by holding down the "s" key while starting up. Follow the handy instructions Apple gives you at the end of the startup sequence and run fsck. Then mount the system root disk as read/write with:
    mount -uw /
Now you can get on with recreating your database in a very brutal way. Remove your current database with:
    rm -rf /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb
Now remove the file that prevents the Setup Assistant from running:
    m /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
And now reboot to get things rolling.
    reboot
This will cause the Setup Assistant to launch, complete with music and bouncing blue blobs. If you remember which account you set up first when you last saw this screen, set up that account now. Otherwise, go with whatever you want for your first
Administrator account. If you match it up with the original Administrator account, all of your permissions should be groovy.
Otherwise, get familiar with chown and chmod and you will be able to set things right.
The above method is rather draconian and isn't for times when you need to replace a complicated NetInfo setup, but should work perfectly well for an essentially single user machine. However that probably rules out most Servers.

    Hi John,
I performed that protocol, but even that didn't fix the problem!
I know I've heard someone once suggest (in a moment of resignation) that I just use the blank name and password fields at login, but this is not really an option in elementary school. I only have 478 users in WGM, so I can't believe that would be too taxing for OS X Server!
Thanks again for your thoughts on this.

    Jon,
The last resort is to reimage.
Are you managing computers by Guest computers or
    computer groups?
John, we're talking about 23 computers here - re-imaging is not an option for me alone unless I have some technical assistance (I don't know how to 'ghost' images across a network).
I was managing the users by Groups though I did have a list of the computers called "lab computers". I just noticed that when I try accessing the Computers tab in WGM (whether on my teacher's station or on the server itself) I get the same error message:
    Got Unexpected Errror
Error of type -14136 on line 432 of
    ComputerListPluginView.mm
    Please advise!
    Thank you again,
    Jon

The list of users is a plist file and should be at at /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist on the clients. See this thread for more information:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2368769&#2368769
If you've got a good plist from a client that sees the right users, you should be able to copy it over. If not, try backing up the file from one client and then deleting it and restarting.
