Login iChat Problems

I've some problems on Login in iChat... It seems to be appearing the password requirement, which I already put in the correct password...
'iChat can’t log in to (my account name) because your login ID or password is incorrect.'
I tried many times but it still shows the same password requirement notice. I can login to all the accounts except for AIM.....

Hi,
If your "AIM" login is an Apple ID the password has to be 16 characters or less.
This is  an AIM Server Limit and it cannot read longer Apple ones.
Another possible is that you are trying to use an iCloud ID (@Me.com)  in iChat 5 or earlier.
This will not work.
In iChat 6 and Messages the app also log in to me.com which then allows the AIM servers to "See" the password and iChat 5 and earlier cannot do this.

  • Not the usual 'login loop' problem, help.

The login loop problem I'm facing is not the usual login loop problem when starting up mac; it's when I'm trying to log into websites or applications (most of them, eg. facebook, instagram).
    I have tried:
using other browsers: Safari, Firefox, Maxthon, Chrome
clearing all cookies / caches / keychains / passwords
    repairing disk
    deleting launchservices cache
    using other userid to login
    All to no avail.
How do I solve this without having to reformat/install mac?
    Thank you.

Hi, are you using Parental contrils or a managed account, or an admin account?
    Using any Anit-Vrus software?

  • Video iChat problem using AIM (Routing through 2nd NIC)

    routing iChat for AIM
I have a Mac Pro with both ethernet cards connected. ethernet zero is connected to my office network and ethernet one is connected to a back channel DMZ. I do not have Access to the office router and it's been configure to prevent chat. I have added routes to the table for ethernet 1and am able to chat through AIM with my wife on the iMac at the house with no issues. However when I establish a video connection it errors out. I've made sure that I have both the initial and establish connection IP's routing through my back channel. But it doesn't seem to work. If I turned off the office LAN, I have no problem connecting using video chat.

as I said I can still chat, I just cannot use video chat unless I disconnect the office network. I need to leave the office network as the default route. Suggestions would be appreciated, not sure if iChat problem or routing problem.

    Umm,
Not so much as a Bug but a feature.
iChat has been designed with a level of security in-built.
When you send a Visible Invite it is just that, away to trigger the other end to pop up a window.
iChat then engages in the SIP part which includes a text based connection method called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol).
This involves a behind the scenes invite and a check to see that the IP the Visible invite went to is the same one the SIP bit ios going to. (remember you can log in as many times as you wanton different apps and computers to the AIM servers), but is essentially to make sure you are connecting to who you invited.
This SIP Process is very much like an old fashioned operator call in that you call the operator they call the operator at the other end who calls the Buddy, he answers his operator who confirms he is willing to chat... etc.
As with a telephone call you want to make sure you are talking to the right person.
Like a telephone iChat has to be in "one place" in relation to the internet.
Unlike a corner plot house it can not have one "number" in one street and another in the side road (even local authorities and postal service ignore this).
The process in other IM apps is mixed.
Skype spreads it's connection over as many hosts as will accept them meaning your call could be using 30 or 40 other end users to spread that load.
Of course this also increases the ports in use giving you less security overall.
Some do seem "better" at ignoring secondary connections the way Web Browsers do.

  • The big iChat problems. Audio/Video (now completely broken in 10.7.3), the "not-authorized" problem

So, I am running iChat on OS X Lion 10.7.3 on an early-2011 MBP 13'' . These problems have been here for a while, though (I got my comp with 10.7.0). I have AIM/GMail/Yahoo connected..
One problem is the issue of non-authorized people. There is a list of "not authorized" people that I have to scroll past in my "offline" section of iChat buddies before I actually get to the real offline contacts. Big note here: All these people have the address (something)@aol.com. These contacts have come up as a result of my gmail connection. You see, a few months ago Gmail and AIM did this chat unification process where @aol.com contacts can be just added into Gmail for chatting. These @aol.com copies come up asking for an invite when the REAL AIM address person talks to me. The invites leave once I press decline, but then they stay on my list as not authorized. If I delete these "not-authorized" copies, the invites will come up again and the cycle will repeat. It is a nuisance considering how much of these false contacts are on my list.
Second problem is video/audio chat in general. This issue really applies on AIM/Yahoo—there is nothing for Gmail because people usually use the web interface which simply doesn't work with iChat video/audio. If the people used Google talk, the issue written below would probably come up.
See, what happens is that…(now in 10.7.3), video/audio chat is simply broken, simple as that. My contacts always tell me that an error has occurred when trying to accept my video chat invite. It simply doesn't work. They are using AIM desktop in most cases. When it DID used to work (to a very limited extent, I'll say; it was hit or miss earlier pre 10.7.3, now it's just miss), it was just video but NO audio. They could see/hear me, I could only see them. When I did audio chats, they hear me, I..don't hear them (so audio chats were pointless). The only case where this problem doesn't happen is where it's Mac to Mac, iChat to iChat. VERY limited in use of audio/video chat, if you ask me.

    Hi,
If AIM contacts have been added to your Google Buddy List then I would login to Google and remove them from there  (the iGoogle or GoogleMail web pages will show the Chat option)
Whilst they are still in the List then the Authorization request will probably be resent (In this case it is probably being generated by the method Google are using to add the AIM names as iChat only sends it once).
Google/Jabber Video chats is only iChat to iChat and so is Yahoo with iChat 6.
The Yahoo App streams Video which People can be allowed to see and Audio is added in as an Audio Chat.
The connection Process is not the same and iChat/AIM
Jabber and Google use Jingle to Connect (in fact Google's version is not that compatible with other Jabber apps).
This means iChat to the Standalone PC app  or any Web Browser using the Google Video Plug-in (PC or Mac) or to any Jabber app that is using a Google ID (or a Jabber ID) will not work.
On the iChat to AIM on a PC.
This has always been a bit of a hit and miss affair.
Some people have no trouble but other spend ages trying to set things up and never find the solution.
This is the Original Users Tip  (up to about AIM5.9)
A "replacement" for that tip that has not made it across yet.
I have yet to try Video to the Web Login version that is now on offer.
However I would limit the Bandwidth in iChat Menu > Preferences > Video Section to 500kbps (possibly try 200kbps for 1-1 chats) as you will not know the interent speed available to the Buddy if they are using the web login.
    Comparisons
When you compare iChat actual functions to what you would like it to do it can appear to be limited.
On the basis that you would want your IM app to be able to have Buddies from other services listed in a Buddy list (combined) or Lists which apps do you know of can do that and Video to some of them ?
Adium and ProteusX can both have Buddies from the major Services ina  Buddy List but don't do Audio or Video.
Yahoo and MSN both allow the other's Buddies in the list but I am not sure about Video or Audio chats
They cannot connect to Jabber or AIM buddies even for text chats.
Jabber does depend on the server you use and whether that does Transports for you to have text chats with other services.
    Instructions for iChat.
Mercury IM is a JAVA version of MSN and still has not got to Audio and Video
    Similar for aMSN
    Gizmo5 and YakforFree both died...
Skype is Cross Platform  but is only 1-1 in Video chat.  (cost extra for 3 and 4 way chats)
Yahoo had dropped support for their Mac version now iChat has the Yahoo option  (you can still download it  - IT being the beta it has been for  years).

  • Scripting with ichat problem

    hi,
i use Ichat to log talk with people on MSN using a Jabber MSN transport.
everything works fine. the only problem is that i have a window of the MSN transport that opens each time i login.
i tried to write a short applescript that will close it.
but i keep getting an error when trying to run it.
i thought it was a problem with my script (although that if i ran it from applescript it works fine). but i found out that i get the same error if i try to use one of apple's made scripts (i tried using the auto accept script).
does anyone know what might be the problem?
    here is my script:
    delay 5
tell application "iChat" to close window "msn.jabber.meta.net.nz"

here is the solution i found:
    the script was wrong.
i found some info on: http://lakesolon.blogspot.com/2009/03/ichat-event-handling-error-1708.html
and followed it to rewrite my script to:
    *using terms from application "iChat"*
    * on login finished*
    * delay 5*
    * close window "msn.jabber.meta.net.nz"*
    * end login finished*
    *end using terms from*
    which works beautifully

  • IChat Problems in OsX Lion

I have numerous problems with iChat, and Mac OS X  lion, but for now, I will just ask about auto reconnect. Has this been disabled? I lied, I will also ask why my buddy list doesn't open automatically when I open iChat.

    Hi,
    Buddy List First.
If you mean iChat Launches but you don't see the Buddy list you have to check a couple of places.
    1) In the iChat menu > accounts is the said Buddy List name ticked ?
    2) In the iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts > Account info tab does it say "Use this Account" (is it ticked)
Either of these will mean the account is Logged in.
You then have to use the Window Menu and the keystrokes listed to bring back the Buddy List (Permanently)
Other options such as the Dock Icon will only bring it back for that session.
    It works like this:-
Using the red button only closes the window.
At this Point it is "Hidden" and only the window menu and those keystrokes will bring it back.
iChat has always been like this but this "feature" is also part of Lion (See System Preferences > General Section > "Restore Windows when Quitting and Re-opening apps" )
    This is the most Likely
The other is If 2) above is not ticked in the first place.
    Auto Connect.
This is most likely down to the method of Connection to the Server involved.
The AIM Logins since iChat 4 have had the option to be SSL logins.
If the SSL server is dropped then for security purposes you have to "reset" this manually in iChat.
This tends to mean Unticking the "Use this Account" box and then ticking it again.
The other is to Disable SSL whilst Logged out and then Login again then Log out and sett SSL and login (yet) again.
iChat 6 also does SSL logins across most Jabber Servers, any AIM valid login and the Yahoo option.
It is the AIM servers that require the most resetting (And are most often dropped).

  • IChat problems, have tried everything

I don't get iChat as a concept - Skype works fine (though sometimes audio quality is a problem), and I have never had a problem with Messenger or even aMSN for video chat.
With iChat, I never know when it will or won't work (for video - text is always fine). For instance - I'm based in London. I can iChat with friends here and my friends in Sydney, but not with my parents just outside Sydney. This would suggest they have a problem, but when I go to my in=laws outside London, I can connect to my parents just fine. I can connect to friends in the States but had problems connecting to them when in New Zealand - though not with friends in London.
The main problem is not being able to connect to my parents. I have an Intel MacBook running Tiger, they have the same, plus a new iMac running Leopard. When I was over there recently, we tested iChat between all three copmuters and it worked fine, now I get either an error saying one of us failed to pick up the chat, that there is an invalid IP address, or that there's some other random error. Why doesn't it just work? Microsoft have managed it...

If you have a PPPoE login to your ISP make sure all device you are routing through allow the computer itself to do the Login (Make the computer look like it is connected Direct to the Internet)
If you have other computer limit the number of routing devices at one location doing DHCP to one.
If your routing devices have UPnP do that rather than Port Forwarding or Port Triggering.
The Issue is actually with NAT
Can Not Connect to Certain Buddy
Error 4 (Invalid IP address is where an Leopard Machine can see two networks (two DHCP Server, Ethernet and wireless, Internet Sharing is ON, certain MIMO routing devices)

  • IChat problems on MacBook

I recently got a black MacBook. I connect to the internet using AirPort Express. When I talk on iChat, text chatting reacts normally. As soon as a video chat is selected by me, or accepted by me, my internet connection fails. It stays down, although airport shows full signal, until i open iChat, and then have to force quit it. I dont understand. My friend is unsing a MacBook Pro. I've never had problems with Apple before and this is my second mac. If anyone knows how to fix my problem it would be greatly appreciated.

now from reading previous discussions with others that have the same problem, you stated that if it had SIP in it, it meant a port problem? how in the world do i fix that?

  • IChat problem - is router the problem and can I do anything to solve it?

I am in Ireland at the moment visiting my family. We all have Macs - IBook G4, MacBook and mine is MacBook (new this August). I can use iChat (video etc) with my family back in the U.S. and with my brother-in-law who lives in Ireland. The problem is with a iBookG4, which my sister has. She has a Netopia router with Eircom (on DSL). We've been able to video conference with each other in the same house, but neither of us can do a video conference with anyone else, so we think that the problem is with the router. It is "Type 0X21" and has 12 VDC, 800mA - this is written on the backside of it. Not sure if that means anything, but I thought I would include it, just in case. Is there anything I can do via either computer to access the firewall(s) in the router that I could change? Or any other suggestions? I have already set the Quicktime speeds etc. like suggested in other forums. And as I can iChat very successfully from my brother-in-law's house, I guess the problem does not lie within my computer.
    Thanks - Geraldine

I was able to solve the problem. I contacted Eircom and the agent told me to set my firewall at "low" - and that helped for a while. I was able to video conference from my computer and my sister's. Then they both stopped working again. My husband did some research (not sure where) but he gave me some port numbers to add and that seemed to do the trick. Once in a while I cannot make a connection, but I think that is due to traffic on the DSL.
Just in case this might help some other Irish iChatter with Eircom and Netopia
here is what my husband found for me
Apple Menu ->System Preferences ->,from View Menu ->Sharing ->Firewall tab -> New ->Port ->Other ->Port Number (Range or Series Field) type in:
    5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5678
In the Description Field type in: iChat AV.
    Click OK.

  • Videochat iChat problems with Built-In iSight...

I'm using a MacBook Pro and I'm trying to do a video chat over iChat connected to AIM.
I've used it several times before with two other Windows users, but this third person I'm attempting to connect with, won't go through.
It says, that their Username won't accept the Videochat invite when they clearly have.
They're reinstalled their version of AIM and even tried to upload newer AND older version but nothing seems to be working.
Can someone with previous experience with this problem help me out?
    Thank you in advance, everyone.

Hey, I hope people aren't getting annoyed by my compulsive posting, but I think this solution needs to be spread, it doesn't get enough publicity:
the issue is that with 10.5.1, a certain quicktime component that acts as a USB controller for the iSight camera is given an expiry time (i.e., the file is given a feature similar to "trial periods"). This file is then deleted, and iSight ceases to function. All that need be done is to replace the component, by downloading it here:
    http://techslaves.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=q8frk8vf81l0f8echu6mj0plk0&action=tpmo d;dl=item16
(disregard the version marking, it works for 10.5.2 in the very least)
Copy it to ~/System/Library/Quicktime, then reboot and it should work.

  • Lion login screen problems on Mid 2009 MacBook Pro

After upgrading my wife's Mid 2009 MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion we are seeing weird behavior on the login screen after the computer wakes from sleep mode.
The screen is only partially drawn (usually the top left 1/4 of the screen), and the grey background is shown instead of her desktop background picture. When you move the mouse around on the screen, it repaints blocks on the screen where the pointer has been.
This only seems to happen when the machine sleeps for a long period of time, e.g., overnight. When it just sleeps for a little while we don't see the issue.
When searching the forums for anyone else with the problem, several folks said that there was an issue with the video drivers for the 9400M card and recommended switching to the 9600M GT, but her machine only has the 9400M in it.
All other aspects of the system work fine.
Anyone else seeing this? Any clues?

Surprised there hasn't been anyone else experiencing this issue.
    I have seen this on 2 new MBP 2.3mhz i5's with the Intel HD 3000 384mb graphics, Lion 10.7.3 & 10.7.4.
Also with the latest Lion firmware for the late 2011 MBP's that addresses compatibility and stability issues.
Hopefully there is a fix soon because the painting on my locked screen to login is getting annoying

  • Resume From Sleep Login UI Problem

I'll keep this short and sharp.
Previously, when I would resume my mac from sleep, it would make the screen look similar to the normal login screen. With things spread out and nicly formatted. With the menu bar showing the essentials like network, time, and battery in the upper left.
Now, when I resume from sleep a small window appears telling me I need to enter my password to "unlock the screen".
What would cause this? Any applications that I might have installed without being aware?
I have restarted 2/3 times, and I will continue to do so for a short while more, in the hope that it can help me.
Oh. This is after resuming from sleep only. When I get to the normal login screen after turning it on, it's fine, and just as normal.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi buddy,
Its really hard to say something about this I can only say that I cant notice this problem on my Windows installation.
By the way: Do you use the Windows version from Toshiba or your own Windows installation?
Theoretically it could be a problem of your Windows installation or HDD itself Are you able to test another HDD or Windows installation that you can make sure its not a software problem?

  • IChat problem

I have a mac pro and a macbookair and no problem with video ichat. I'm in the record industry managing various Artists and all works fine - ichat with record company, artists, agents etc except one of my artists has a new macbook and can't ichat - always says communication error after about 15 secs. He can text chat fine and I can see a green light on my machines to say he is online but both voice and video ichats don't work. His broadband connection seems strong using a BT Homehub router. Any ideas - really urgently need to get him working - Thankss

Thanks. We tried everything you suggested exactly as you listed, but still my friend's Macbook is timing out after about 15secs saying communication error. If i try to contact him, as oppose to him contacting me, we still have the same issue but as I said previously, I have about 10 other people I can video ichat with, without any problem, so I know its not my machines. I can text ichat him and I can see a green light in my address book and AIM buddy list to tell me his is available ?
    Any more advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Neil
