Login not accepting password

Two days ago I was able to log on to my computer but yesterday, all of a sudden the logon box is not accepting my password.  Is this a sign of a problem with the keyboard not typing the correct keys for some reason or could it be a software issue.  What should I do first?  Buy another keyboard and if so, can I use another brand of USB input keyboard?  Or should I try to do something like a system restore?  Keyboards are relatively cheap I guess.  Will any brand of keyboard work with an HP?  I tried some older Dells I had in storage but none worked.  Thanks,  mmannaxx

You should be able to connect any standard USB keyboard and it should work. Can you use the keyboard to open screens before Windows loads... such as the BIOS (F10). If another administrator accesses your computer, they might have changed your password? IF you think you might have forgotten the password, this document has some tips (in Windows 7..not sure what OS you have): http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01927511

  • When i try to open a document, adobe will not accept password

cannot open file because adobe will not accept password adobe x

Odd. I downloaded [DH]RQ-7_UAV_US_Army.pdf which indicates the password you posted, and it opened WITHOUT any prompt for password at all. (Adobe Reader XI Mac OS X 10.8.5)
I downloaded P51D_Mustang_Ferocious_Frankie.pdf and it opens in Preview, Acrobat X, but not Reader XI as you described.
Here's what I did to get it to open.
    Open the PDF in Acrobat.
    Click File>Properties.
Under the Security tab, click "Change Settings..."
Where it says "Compatibility:" change it from "Acrobat 5 and later" to "Acrobat X and later".
    Enter the password (paper-replika.com) below.
    Click OK.
    Save the PDF.
    Open it with Reader XI.
It will accept the password and open the PDF.
This ISN'T a Reader issue, but an issue with the save settings when the PDF was created.
Unfortunately, for those who DON'T have Acrobat to make the necessary changes, it will remain a problem.
Perhaps you could contct the website and inform them that they need to change their compatibiliy settings in their PDFs.
But... It's NOT a Reader issue.

  • Secured wi fi network gives timeout and will not accept password.  Works on i pad and iphone

My Macbook Pro network was secured and worked on ipad and iphone.  Now it gives me a "connection timed out" message on laptop and will not accept password.  It works on ipad and iphone.  Anyone with an explanation.  I cannot get it to let me delete from the macbook pro.  Had to set a new unsecured network to just get on internet.  Running 10.7.4 and is up to date.

I deleted all and then set up an unsecured network.  When I go to system preferences>Network and where the Network Name is, I click join other networks, then click show networks the secured net work is still there and when I click on it, it gives me the timeout message.  This is causing a problem in trying to get my wireless printer back on line as it keeps going to this secured network.  Can you help with this problem.  I would like to remove the secured network completely from my computer.  I have gone to the Advanced and deleted all.  The only one showing there is the unsecured network.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • For about 2 weeks I have been unable to leave feedback on ebay. Firefox brings up login page but will not accept password. I am having the same problem with my yahoo email. It will not accept my passwords, so I have to use IE to login to these accounts.

On yahoo email, it accepted my login id, but not password. This started on one account about two weeks ago. Today when I tried to login to another yahoo email, which worked yesterday, but it would not accept my password on this account.
I bought some items on ebay and wanted to leave feedback. When I clicked on the leave feedback button a sign in window appeared, this should not have happened, when I tried to sign in, it would not accept my password. I called ebay and was told they have had many complaints from customers using firefox when trying to leave feedback. The help desk suggested I try with Internet Explorer, I did, and it worked perfectly.
I have been using firefox for a long time and really do not want to go back to IE, but when I cannot sign into my accounts, I can't, so I will have to use IE.
As far as I know, no new programs have been installed on this computer.

  • Encrypted drive will not accept password when re-mounting via Disk Utility

I have used the 'whole disk encryption' on one of my external HDDs.  Sometimes i eject the drive when i don't need it because it's in a 4bay housing along with 3 other drives.  I do this because OSX wakes up all my drives even for mundane tasks like safari browsing or even looking for a dictionary definition. But anyway, my problem is if i want to re-mount that encrypted drive from disk utility (left mouse click on greyed out drive and re-mount) it does not accept my password.  I get the little shake like i typed it in incorrectly.  Anyway, i tried it like a dozen times and received a dozen shakes of negativity.
If i swith off the drive unit and swith back on again the password is accepted just fine..
Can anyone else test this so i can mark it up as a Lion bug?  Or is there something else i need to try?
    Thanks
    Si

  • Cannot log in to Windows; will not accept password

Shutdown my Windows 8.1 tablet last night normally with no unusual issues. Will not accept the password this am. Have checked to see that correct pword was entered.

I am having the same problem.  Have a Satellite C55-B5240 running Windows 8.1 that is only 2 weeks old.  Shut down last night and this morning cannot get past the log in screen.  Checked and rechecked the caps, the password, even went on to another computer and changed the password 6 times.  I can get on with any of the other pc's but not the new one. On-line-chatted with Microsoft and spoke to 3 different techs.  They all said the same things...it was beyond their expertise and I should contact Toshiba, get the Windows 8.1 key from them, and reload 8.1!!  Very funny.  I can't even get online let alone download anything.  They were no help whatsoever!  Spent 2 1/2 hours on chat with them.  I don't know what to do other than call Toshiba on Monday.

  • Could there be something wrong with your router if ipad or i phone will not accept password saying it is wrong and yoy know it is right

could router WiFi be defective if it will not accept your password saying it is incorrect it is 2 yrs old.

The router could be defective but if you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is with your network. Try restarting your router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • System Prefs Not Accepting Password Change

I've changed my password by starting up from my system CD (OS X 10.2) several times. When I try to unlock my system preferences, i either get the message:
"You must type an administrator's name and password or phrase to make changes to System Preferences. Please try again." or
"Sorry, you entered an invalid user name or password. Please try again."
I must be missing a step somewhere. The previous password is long since lost and for some reason it's not accepting the new one. Can anyone advise?
    Appreciatively,

  • "Flash out of date" comes up, new install, and will not accept Password for install?  Next step?

"Flash out of date" comes up, i do a new install, the log-in and password windows pops up, I type in password and it will not accept.
I have changed password, confirmed password, rebooted several times, and it still will not re-insall new version.
    I am stuck.
    HELP!

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
If you're still stumped, you may need to reset the password on your Mac:

  • Outlook 2013 not accepting password

I've recently tried to reconnect my work email account to Outlook. However, when I try to enter my password (which I'm sure is correct, as I can log onto the account online with the password), Outlook will not accept it.
Any advice as to how I can get this figured out?
    Thanks!

I've had been dealing with the same issue for three weeks now. For years Outlook worked fine, then one day it asked for the password - and even when providing the correct
password (proven by the fact that the very same password was working on my phone and the web client), still didn't accept it.
Finally, about 10 minutes ago, I fixed it. Before I go back to the binge drinking I’m doing to celebrate, I wanted to share everything I tried and the final solution.
I recommend trying each approach in order – they go from the simple to the increasingly complicated / time consuming. Hopefully one of the approaches will work for you.
My theory is that Windows somehow stored the wrong password somewhere, and kept on overwriting the correct one. I’m just very glad that is working now.
NO LIABILITY IS ASUMED – FOLLOW PROCEDURES AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you’re not a professional, seek professional help.
    Here's all I tried:
APPROACH # 1: Delete the Exchange account and try to recreate it
    1. I tried this approach in two ways: I deleted the Exchange account from within Outlook and in different attempts, deleted the account from within
the Mail profile from the Mail area of the Control Panel.
    2. Try to recreate the account from within Outlook using autoconfigure. Outlook would not let me - it would give me an error ("encrypted connection
not availabe with your server"), then would try to set it up "unencrypted", then it would ask me to go to the Mail setting in the Control Panel
    3. When creating the account in the Mail area of the Control Panel, everything would seem to work - all green check marks when creating the account
    with autoconfigure.
    4. When trying to open Outlook, it would again prompt for the password, and would not recognize the correct password.
    5. I did a similar approach doing manual settings. All settings would be correct within the Mail area of the Control Panel, but Outlook would still not accept the password.
APPROACH #2: Delete the Profile and try to recreate it
    1. Went into the Mail area of the Control Panel and deleted the profile.
    2. In essence followed steps 2 – 5 from above (creating a profile first, then the account). No luck.
APPROACH # 3: Use the profile assistant from my cloud Exchange provider. (Not sure if this a proprietary thing of my Exchange provider Intermedia.net.)
    1. Delete profile.
    2. Downloaded the "profile assistant" from the "Setup" area of my Intermedia.net account.
    3. When trying to run it, it would do something weird (it even stumped the Intermedia.net tech support guy): instead of creating a profile, it would
simply say "password saved" and prompt for the user name and password.
    3. Of course, when trying to start Outlook, the password would not be recognized.
APPROACH # 4: Delete stored credentials
    1. On the search box, type in “credential” and go to the “Credential Manager” that you will find.
    2. Delete all credentials (both “Web” and “Windows”) that appear to have anything to do with Outlook, Exchange or email. (BTW – I tried this several times, going as
far as deleting ALL credentials I could find in my last attempt)
    3. Went back and tried approaches 1 through 3, deleting the credentials before each attempt. No luck
APPROACH #5: Uninstalled and reinstall Outlook.
    1. Did this, then tried approaches 1 through 4.
    2. It didn’t work.
    3. Yeah. I know. Still recovering from this one.
APPROACH #6: The registry (I think)
I know Windows stores passwords in the Registry as well. Ib spite of not being really sure what a Registry is, I did a web search and found the mysterious area where subdirectores with cryptic
names (like 124ww244ab-Zs—u) are created and deleted for each app. Looking at the activity there felt like listening to the musings of a BSG Hybrid.
Found the right directory for Outlook. Renamed it by adding “-old” to it.
Did approaches 1 thru 4. No luck.
APPROACH #7: Create a new User Account in my computer (Victory at last)
I wish I had tried this first.
The account in my computer is linked to my Microsoft account. So first, go into your Account and disconnect it from your Windows Account, making it a local account on the PC.
Create a new account with Administrative rights. Connect this account to your Windows account.
I went back to approach 1, but when I saw the same errors, skipped it and went to #3. This worked at last.
I hope this info is useful. Now back to partying.
