Hi,
It's not asking you to login but to authorize the computer.
Click the Authorize button or from the iTunes menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

In mail app, you can remove the account and add theirs in settings>Mail, Calendars,Contacts.
or add theirs only and in mail, go up a level and view each inbox seperately.
The ipad is not designed for multi-user use however so it is not easy.

  • Login/Logout sync with user control over folders to sync

We have a user who needs modify the folders that are synced periodically.
The user has multiple computers that they keep synced with OS X Server 10.4.10.
We turned background sync to unmanaged and they are able to modify their settings and left login/logoff sync as managed. Any time they login/logoff auto sync does not occur.
How do we configure their settings so that they can adjust the folders that get synced and still have auto sync at login/logoff?

Not even sure you can do this but you might look for Login/Logout Hooks that can perform the action your looking to do. There would have to be a way to shell-script the Sync part of RHD which I'm not sure you can.
On the Server Side you can control what get auto synced and what does not in WGM. Then you just set it all to auto on login/logout.

  • Mobile Account Login/Logout Sync Not Skipping Inputted Items

I'm running a Leopard Server 10.5.6 Advanced Config ODM.
No matter what I put into the Login & Logout Sync tab underneath "Skip items that match any of the following" it still syncs everything.
I enter "ends with" ".mp3", "mp3" and it still syncs the test MP3s I put onto the desktop for the user.
I ask it to not sync ~/Documents and it still syncs the test documents I put into that folder.
This user is set to sync at login and logout with no background sync. The client machine is using 10.5.6.
Merge with user's settings NOT checked
    Background Sync > Never
    Option > Never
    Account Creation > Creation
Create mobile account when user logs in to network CHECKED
    Create home:
    with default sync settings: CHECKED

    Thanks for the reply.
    Under
    GROUP->PREFERENCES->MOBILE->RULES
    Login and Lougout Sync->Always
    Sync at login and logout->Checked
Merge with user's settings->Not Checked and never has been.
    Unfortunately, that can't be it
Here are some screen shots of my settings. As you can see Background sync is not enabled.
Nevermind, it won't let me attach files.

  • Getting ~/Library to sync in background when login/logout sync turned off

I have a bunch of laptop users with very slow network connections where I need to turn off login/logout sync and only sync data in the background manually. Problem is, if you turn off login/logout sync it also turns off syncing ~/Library in the background.
Now if you use the Details tab for MCX setting in WGM you can add the key "Sync Preferences in the Background" and set it to "sync" but it doesn't make any difference.
Anyone know how to work around this so I don't have to sync anything at login/logout but can still sync Preferences in background when I manually do a sync?

I don't think it's in the GUI, but you can manage this stuff pretty granularly with the following boolean flags in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.homeSync.plist:
    <key>syncBackgroundSetAtLogin</key>
    <string>dontSync</string>
    <key>syncBackgroundSetAtLogout</key>
    <string>dontSync</string>
    <key>syncPreferencesAtLogin</key>
    <string>dontSync</string>
    <key>syncPreferencesAtLogout</key>
    <string>sync</string>
    <key>syncPreferencesAtSyncNow</key>
    <string>dontSync</string>
    <key>syncPreferencesInBackground</key>
    <string>dontSync</string>
I think the keys you want are syncPreferencesInBackground and/or syncPreferencesAtSyncNow. However, I found that this unpredicatably didn't sync everything. PHD has a generally hard time with open files and many of these files are open. Also, note that 10.5 changed in that it considers any hidden folders loose in your home folder (e.g. .ssh/) to be included in "Preference" syncing only occurring at Logout and Login. This isn't really documented or shown anywhere. I'm pretty sure that they are ignored in the background *even with* the above flags in use. Note that I haven't played with these in a while, so your mileage might vary. Perhaps they're just not ready for prime time.
    EDIT:
Actually, I just remember where and how I found these: You need to follow the directions for "Using the Preference Editor to Manage Core Services" on page 236 of the User Management manual. This gives you the location of Preference Manifest for Home Folder Syncing which has a bucketload of cool options, including automatic conflict resolution.

  • Login/logout sync hangs

I am trying to migrate my user account to a portable home directory. (OSX Server 10.4.8, OSX Client 10.4.8). I have a small network (8 users) and everyone else has been using network accounts and portable home directories for months. I had a large amount of data in my account and just didn't want to take the time until I had some serious sound problem with my laptop and had to do an erase and install to fix it. So I decided to convert to a network account but put most of my files outside my home directory. The only thing in my home directory are my apple mail files. I can't get login logout sync to complete succeessfully. It goes through "checking items" and changes the folder it displays until it gets to the last one where it hangs for hours and never actually starts synchronizing. My work around was to remove all but a couple of my mailboxes from ~/library/mail and then sync by logging out/in. I then would add a couple more mail boxes and repeat. This is a tedious process.
I could not find any discussion about limitations on the number of files that login/logout sync can process. I suspect there is some memory limit on the total number of files in a directory or the total number of changed files and instead of complaining it just hangs. Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know of a limit on the number of files. I have about 14 GB of mail archives with 100,000s of messages.
I suspect I will have to archive them outside of the ~/library/mail folder and maybe do a symlink.

  • Login and sync'ing

Still seem to be many issues with PHDs and Mobile Accounts, but a couple of things are currently a problem for me and hoped for some help here.
Login and Logout of a Mobile Account syncs the background set, even though the managed prefs include:-
    syncBackgroundSetAtLogin = dontSync;
    syncBackgroundSetAtLogout = dontSync;
Since it checks the entire ~/ folder, logging in and out take a long time and yet it should NOT be even checked. This seems to have occurred since updating the clients to 10.6. Have the keys been changed? How can this affect it when the server has not changed (still 10.5.8)?
I have also always experienced occasional errors when the background sync runs, warning me that there is a conflict since a file has been changed locally AND on the network home. Apart from the fact that this should not happen as nothing has been accessing the file on the server, the error message dialog includes the size and datetime data for both files and it's IDENTICAL so IOW the file has NOT been changed at all.
Anyone any clues as to why the sync process mistakenly thinks there's a conflict when there obviously is not and how this can be fixed? Is this just another bug and it's fixed in 10.6 Server?

Well, try this...on the assumption that somehow her windows account ever used a shift-start of itunes and somehow got into your library by mistake.
Search your hard drives for all files containing ITL. Make sure Windows is set to display file extensions and hidden files.
Once you are sure you know where all the ITL files are, then do a shift-start of itunes in her Windows account.
Press *AND HOLD* the shift key while starting itunes. She should get a message asking to choose or create a new library. Choose an existing library and make sure to browse to the ITL file in her username path.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
If you don't see the screenshot from that article, try again and keep holding that shift key.
iTunes always uses the last ITL file it used from before, until it gets another shift-start. Maybe she (or someone else) did a shift-start ages ago, and forgot about it.
She should only have to do this shift-start once, not every time.

  • In my household we have multiple users with different apple id's on one computer. Can we just change the login to sync our devices to the computer?

We have multiple apple id's for each member of the family and we all use one computer. Will this cause problems when we all want to sync to the computer, after we authorize each apple id to the computer?

Each user should have a separate user account on the computer. That will result in each user having a unique iTunes library and as long as each person logs into the computer with their own account, it will avoid unintentional cross synching and deletion of data.

  • I have to login to sync every time I restart Firefox

I use Firefox Sync (in Firefox 4.0.1) on two deskcomputers (Apple Mac). I succeeded in setting up an account and syncing everything.
But each time I close and re-open Firefox I have to set up Sync again. This includes filling out my sync key.
This doesn't seem normal to me. Is this due to the Firefox preferences where I tell Firefox to delete its history (except cookies)?
And if this is the case, what information must Firefox keep in order to make Sync work?

Sounds that the server sends the page with the wrong encoding because if the server sends an encoding then that prevails and you need to use the "Firefox > Web Developer" menu or on XP possibly "View > Character Encoding" in the menu bar is visible to change the encoding to Unicode.<br />
If you have the orange Firefox menu button then you can set the browser.menu.showCharacterEncoding pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page for easier access.
I don't know if there are still extensions to set the encoding that work properly in current Firefox releases, but you can have a look on the Add-ons site.

  • Firefox sync not workin, can't login, forgot password or sign up - none working!

I'm running the latest Firefox v33.0.2 on Windows 8, but i've also tried the following on a laptop running Windows 8 and a Galaxy S5 running Android.
Problems started this morning when i re-installed a laptop running Windows 8 and installed Firefox v33.0.2. I went to setup Sync and couldn't sign in. All known passwords didn't work. I requested to reset the password.
I can't login to Sync, all known passwords dont work.
If i click forgotten password for my main account i get 'Unexpected error'
If i try and create a new Sync account and then Forgotten password as i can't login :
I receive the forgotton password email, but almost immediately i get the error - Reset password link expired. The link you clicked to reset your password is expired.
If i click the 'Click here to receive a new reset link' i get the error 'Unknown account'
I can't sign up for a new Sync account - it says working, then an error occurred, although i do receive a verify email, but if i click on the link, created less than 2 minutes before it tells me 'Verification link expired
The link you clicked to verify your email is expired.'
If i try and sign in, despite receiving a verification email it tells me the account doesn't exist!
So, i can't login to Sync, i can't reset my password and i can't sign up for a new Sync account - Every option simply doesn't work, so i'm assuming everyone must be experience Sync problems if they sign out and try to sign in or setup Sync on a new device?
What's going on with Sync, the whole system seems to be broken?
I've tried this on 3 different devices and get the same results!
    Please help!

Ok to follow up and narrow down the issue can you please try the following:
    # make a copy of the login file in your current profile folder. This is located
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_how-do-i-find-my-profile] in these files: key3.db and logins.json
    # Grab these and paste them into a new profile and add this to the new profile to eliminate if this is an issue with the password file.
#[[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
If the passwords work in the new profile the logs would be helpful to investigate further.
    * How do I turn on sync logs:
    # Open about:config and turn on: services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess and services.sync.log.logger.engine.bookmarks
    # Restart Firefox and look at: about:sync-log
    # Logs and error messages will be located here
Please also use pastebin.mozilla.org for sharring any errors that relate to this issue.
    Thank you.

  • Does PHD Login Sync Work at All?

Am I expecting too much? But does the login sync even work for anyone? After I setup a user in no instances zero have I got login sync to work as described after an initial sync not even 1 time!!!!!!!
I've got brand new 10.5.8 server/client nothing configured for PHD except mobile preferences for PHD and it never works. Followed multiple guides just not happening.
This would be a great feature for us but as of now I'm giving up and moving on to something else because my experience is not a good one I wouldn't consider using any part of the Mobility prefs as it seems to work NEVER.

PHD setup is a bit ridiculous in that it doesn't quite seem to do what you expect. At least for my district's setup we had to enable both login / logout sync and background sync for login sync to work. Your best bet is to do all you configuration in the com.apple.homesync preference found under Preferences Details tab in WGM, do some exploring in there you get a lot more granular control and discover the settings make a lot more sense.

  • It would appear my Firefox Sync is not accepting my login.

I created a Firefox Sync account and then when I attempt to login to Sync via: https://account.services.mozilla.com/ it tells me that my username or password are incorrect. I want to sync my desktop with my phone and I cannot locate any sort of assistance on this subject. I accepted and verified the e-mail and all of that.

Firefox 29.0 (currently beta) and later use the new Sync version that use a Mozilla account and only use the name and password and no longer use a separate Sync (recovery) key (the sync key is automatically derived from the password).
As this version is completely different from the version previously you need to use Firefox 29.0 and later on all connected devices, so you need to install Firefox 29.0 on all other devices as well.
You can enter the name and password of the Mozilla account on other devices that have a Firefox 29.0 or later version to add extra devices.

  • Firefox v33.1 Android: sync login fails

I installed the latest version of Firefox, v33.1 on my Nexus 7 (2nd Gen, 2013) running Android 4.4.4. I tried to set up Firefox sync. I have sync successfully established on my desktop & notebook. When I try to login to Sync on the Nexus 7 I get a message: Invalid email or password.
    I tried several solutions:
First I reset my Firefox sync password on my desktop successfully. Then I changed the Firefox sync password on my notebook successfully. But the Nexus 7 Firefox sync login attempt still fails with the same message.
Then I uninstalled Firefox from the Nexus, rebooted, reinstalled Firefox, sync login still fails.
    Any ideas?
    thanks, sbi108

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I believe I am using the new servers. I updated when the new servers were introduced.
My login was created using my desktop Firefox browser and managed from the browser and does not require a key of any sort. I just use my email address as the account name and my password to setup sync on my laptop.
How do I confirm that I am using the new Sync servers?
    thanks, sbi108

  • Unable to login to the Firefox Sync

    Hello.
I had to restore my ubuntu and in the morning I typed few times wrong password - so I used option to recover my password, however I received message "Attempt limit exceeded.". Error message changed lately to unknown account.
What to do now? I still have firefox recovery key and I need all data from firefox sync.
    Thank you.

I was using latest firefox version (30) before restore (recovery key was saved the first time I created sync, before 1-2 years)
I do have other accounts linked, it's under windows - at home (will check it out there).
When posting, I've installed some addon for troubleshooting and submitted with the post itself, however I don't know how/where is that now and if it's visible to you guys, so here is it, as requested:

  • IPod Touch syncing to another library

This question involves 3 iPod touches and 1 computer! I am asking this question for my parents who are not that iTunes savy as of yet.
They both have iPod touches that were once synced to their computer. My nephew came over and hooked his iPod up to their computer a while back and now at the top it will say (my nephews name's iPod) even though his iPod is not plugged in. How can they get his name off of there? When my stepmom plugs her ipod up, she wants to see her name same as my dad. When I opened iTunes and clicked on Preferences then Devices, I see BOTH my stepmoms and Dad's iPods listed. My nephews is not listed but that same computer was used to get his iPod up and running at one point.
My folks are scared they will lose all their music if they hook up their iPod's then click the wrong thing.
Secondly when they (my parents) plug their ipods up to the computer its says their iPods are synced to another library. It gives them an option of Erase and Sync or Transfer Store Purchases. All the songs in the current library on the screen is songs my parents both added to their library. This is the CORRECT library according to them. For now, I just had them click cancel.
So my stepmom said at one point she could sign in with her login and sync her iPod and then my Dad could sync his iPod under her login name. They said he didn't have to log her out then log back in with his user email address. Could this be a problem?
Now if they each signed in with their own user and password, can they have their own separate playlists and libraries even though its on the SAME computer?
Would Erase and Sync be the best option? I recently had to use Senuti for Mac for my own iPod for a similar issue but I think that might be a bit complicated for them to learn if I suggested that option LOL!
Im trying to make this as painless as possible for them so they can get back to downloading music and apps. Even though its saying their iPods are syncing to another library, all the music on the screen MATCHES everything that is currently on their iPod's now. This is why I was pushing more for them to do an Erase and Sync.
    What are your thoughts?
    Thanks!!
