Login problem - Vista laptop

Hi everyone.
I've just spent an unproductive morning with a friends laptop, and really would appreciate some pointers just what to try next as I'm now completely bewildered.
The main problem is that it won't log into the BTinternet, the username / password combination keeps getting rejected.
To check we'd got the correct u/n & p/w combination, we sucessfully accessed the email account via her husband's iPad with no problem (the iPad stores the p/w, so we didn't have to type it in again).
I then logged into my gmail a/c on the laptop, with no problem.
I then tried logging onto BTinternet using my iPad and the friends u/n & p/w combination, which worked, no problem.
I then went back to the laptop, which still wouldn't log into the BTinternet a/c.
I then downloaded Firefox onto the laptop, and we logged in to BTinternet with no problem using the friends u/n & p/w combination.
I think the problem lies somewhere within IE. Anybody got any ideas?
For information:
* Laptop running Windows Vista using BT Home Hub via wireless connection.
* Version is IE9, which I understand is the latest version suported on Vista.
* I was actually called in to clear the print queue as printing had frozen. I can't see a connection, but am always suspicious of coincidences.
* Google Chrome failed to load - reported "a problem" and then shut down. Uninstalling & then reinstalling Chrome didn't make any difference - it still refused to load sucessfully. I vaguely remember some Google policy of only supporting the last two versions, but on checking it seems as if XP is still supported, so surely Vista should be OK?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Try clearing the cache,  cookies and Internet history from IE9. Open the browser, go to the menu then Tool > Internet Options > General > Browsing History > Delete > select the relevan boxes and click Delete.

  • No Problem hooking up Vista laptop with WRT110 Wireless Router but can not get XP laptop to see it

I purchased a WRT110 Linksys wireless router this afternoon and had no problem configuring it for my wired desktp and my wireless Vista laptop, but my Acer XP wireless laptop will not even see the network.  I have tried WEP, WAP, and no security, but I can see the neighbors routers but I can not see mine.  My XP laptop is an Acer 3680-2574 with a  Broadcom 802.11g network adapter.

Is the SSID enabled on the router ?
What is the firmware on the router ?

  • WRTGS54 v7 & Vista Laptop Connectivity problem

    Hello,
I have just bought a WRT54GS v7 because the PC store said my HP laptop (new in October) needed a router that was Vista compatible and my 4 yr old Netgear was not.  So I bought this and installed it.  It is connected to a Motorola SB3100 Surboard cable modem; the ISP is Comcast.
There are three computers on the network; an older Gateway desktop running XP, a 3 yr old Thinkpad, also running XP and normally connected only wirelessly and this new computer, an HP Pavillion running Vista Home Premium.
The problem I am running into is that the HP cannot seem to stay connected to the network.  The IBM never has that problem.  I went to the Live Chat option to ask for help and the first person seemed to figure it out and told me to disable the McAfee and Windows firewalls as the Linksys had built in firewall protection.  I did that last night and everything ran fine.  I got up the morning and had to restart the computer to establish a wireless link.  Which held for about 15 min.  My two successive Live Chat ventures both ended when the online techs told me to make changes to advanced security settings and the connections were terminated.
Oh look, it's time for my blood pressure medicine.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be much appreciated.
    Best to all.
    Bob

Are you using any linksys adapter on VISTA laptop?

  • New FIOS router, VIsta Laptop Cannot Access Internet

I too have the new FIOS router with 75/35 speed.  I have just been trying to install the router and have been successful in getting wifi connected on two devices (Win 7 laptop and Kindle), but I cannot get my Vista laptop to access the internet.  It shows the wifi being connected but no internet connection.
Does this have something to do with the Vista OS?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Anyone at Verizon who is paying attention would realize this problems is many years old with no solution.  People are literally begging for help in dozens of online forums, to no avail (Google search usually provides me results faster than any tech support).  I have the exact same issue.  All my wireless devices connect to the internet through the Verizon MI424WR router with no problem.  My Vista laptop connects just fine via Ethernet cable, but not the wireless.  I can make a wireless connection to the router, and the router admin page shows it is, in fact, connected, but absolutely NO connection to internet is possible.
BTW, the laptop had no problem for years connecting to the internet via a Linksys WRT54G connected to Verizon DSL.
All that the troubleshooting "guide" provides is the usual basic "plug in, turn off, turn on, reset" nonsense that might help only those who can't stop their VCR clock from blinking.
So please, Verizon, bump this up to a FAQ (because it is VERY frequently asked), and help us find a solution.

  • What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. It really up sets me when people come on here and complain before they have even given any of the staff or advisors a chance to help them with their problem. What can I do if my Windows 7 or Vista laptop won't start.
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/What-can-I-do-if-my-Windows-7-or-Windows-Vista...
This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. I'm creating this message because I know Google will pick it up. Google picks up every thing

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

  • Wireless connection not visible on Vista laptop using Time capsule

Change setup with Time capsule 1 TB, all MAC PC's work perfectly with wireless connection, except Vista laptop.
Vista discovers all other wireless connections except the one from Time capsule.
On advise from forum, changed Airport settings :
    - Radio mode = 802/a - 802/g"
    - Wireless security to "none"
Which other setting on Vista prevents at least discovering the wireless signal ?
    Thanks for your support !

I believe the problem has to do with some potential compatibility issue between the SP3 update and the currently installed Boot Camp drivers. Did you make sure that you (re)installed the latest Boot Camp drivers after you performed the SP3 update?

  • HP Photosmart c309 and printing from Vista laptop on wired/wireless network

Ok going to be as thorough at possible here.
Its a brand new HP Photosmart c309 which I received this past Weds, so far so good both my Wife and I are enjoying it. Now I have it wired into my home network which consists of a Linksys switch in our home office and Netgear wireless router in the basement. The Linksys switch is wired to the router in the basement for internet/network connection...I have my Dell workstation running Windows XP SP3 (with all the latest patches from Microsoft, Mcafee AV) and the photosmart printer wired to the switch. I installed the HP software and drivers from the disk on the XP workstation and all is well...prints, scans and I'm able to view the printer settings, ink levels and what not.
NOW my Wife's Dell Vista laptop (which is patched to the latest from Microsoft, Mcafee AV) is getting really annoying. First I hate Vista but that’s another story...the Vista laptop connects to our home network via the wireless network through the Netgear router. So I followed the same steps as my XP workstation, it finds the printer during setup and all is well till the part when it wants to send a test page...so I opt to skip the photo test page and just do a standard one. Well it "sends" a test page or at least it looks like it does but nothing comes out of the printer (ie no activity from printer). The printer icon shows up in the system tray in the lower right hand corner of the screen near the time and when I put the mouse pointer over the icon is says "0 in queue" so I double click the icon to see if I can get more info and nothing happens. Right click the icon and choose open all active printers and again nothing. The printer icon is in the system tray for about 10-15 seconds and then disappears.
So I'm a little confused here, I check the printer in "printers & faxes" and both it and the fax part are listed...the printer even says it’s in "ready" status. I start the HP solution software on the laptop and I am able to scan from the printer to the Vista laptop fine, I'm able to view printer settings, network settings, ink levels and what not. I JUST CAN'T printer to it.
I tried another test page from the printer properties within Windows, again the icon shows up in the system tray and it says "0 in queue" and the icon disappears after 10-15 seconds. I then try to print a picture using the HP software and the same thing...icon shows up in system tray "0 in queue" and it disappears.
Did I do something wrong or am I missing a special step for Vista machines? I did uninstall and reinstall software/drivers and manually removed the printer and then reinstalled everything with no luck and no change...still acts the same.
I'm lost at what else to try. I think I tried the obvious stuff. I've searched the web to come up blank with a similar situation like mine...I've seen others complain about printing 1 page documents and the printer prints 3,6,16 pages at a time which is the opposite from my situation.
Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bruno

Have you received an answer to this question?  I'm having the exact same problem.  Spent 4 hours on the phone with HP tech support and no solution.

  • I have windows 7 and vista laptops on win 7 after the latest updates I was no longer able to browse the net. I have router conection but it shows no internet

since the last update to 14.0.1 and updating plugins for adobe shockwave flash my internet connection dropped out. I have two other laptops, an Ipod touch and samsung phone on the same router and all work fine. I have connection to the router but diagnosis shows no internet access. I updated the same plugin on my Vista laptop and found the same problem occurred. I have reset all network settings and the router back to factory and setup again but still the same

    Hi mysticpjd,
this really does not seem to be an Internet browser issue. Have you tried a different browser (Internet Explorer)? I assume that the problem persists there right?

i hope you help how to install windows xp on my laptop .
    Regards
    John

    Hello John
It is not easy to understand the whole situation, especially this part with viruses.
In my opinion WXP installation should not be problematic.
What you need is WXP SP2 or SP3 disc and SATA driver. Without SATA driver HDD will not be visible for WXP.
More about that you can read on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=38

  • Difficulty connecting Mac Mini and Windows Vista laptop

I have a Windows Vista laptop. I have been connecting to the Internet via a wireless DSL router. I just purchased a Mac Mini and want to hardwire the Mac Mini to the router and also create a home newtork where the Mac Mini can transfer files to and from the Vista laptop and vice versa.
What is the best way to do this? Could you please provide detailed information as well? I don't have a lot of experience with computers or networking.
    Thank you!

    Hi Bruce!
What you're wanting to do is very possible and is done often. However, please search Apple's website or Google first or search this forum for answers to your question. They've been asked and answered multiple times.
If you have problems with some of the steps then definitely post back and folks in this forum will be glad to help you get over those hurdles. We're users just like you but our time and efforts aren't unlimited.

  • Limited access message on Vista laptop

I have a linksys wireless g 2.4 router. I recently setup WEP security on this router.
When our Vista laptop connects to our network, it shows a "Limited Access" message below the SSID name. What does the limited access message mean?
Also, we noticed that around 8pm-11pm every night, our wireless speed slows down drastically. Every website we go to takes a few minutes to display. This happens on all of our PCs connecting wirelessly. Any ideas what to look for on my router that may cause this?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Whats the Model number of your Router ?
If you are getting "Limited Access" on your Vista computer, these indicates that your computer is not connected to the Internet and its having only Limited access. So in these case you can change the security Mode on your Router to WPA Personal and then try to connect to your wireless network.
If you are facing intermittent connection problem on your wireless computer, then i think you need to change some settings on your router. Follow the settings bellow.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now on your vista computer... Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network and Sharing Center >>>Under tak you need to click on "Manage Wireless Network" and Remove all the Preferred Networks from the List and close the window.
Now try to re-connect to your wireless network using the WPA security key.

  • Failed logins problem

    Hello, everyone....
OK, first of all, the players...
    1. NetWare 6.5 SP7 servers: a half dozen at the main office. One at each of
three sites connected with an site to site VPN tunnel.
    2. User laptop: Windows XP SP3, pretty well patched.
    3. Other considerations: VPN tunnel is SonicWall, an NSA 3500 at the main
office and TZ210 at each VPN location. Also ZenWorks 7.x is involved. I'm
not sure of the exact version, but it is some variety of Zen 7.
My problem: this laptop is single-handedly generating dozens of failed
logins on at least two of the three VPN sites.I looked at the Remote Manager
logs for these locations and the Zenworks Workstation Object is shown as the
    culprit.
Example log entry from Remote Manager (OrgName and TreeName withhelf for
    security reasons):
    Time: Thursday, 9-24-2009 10:35 am
    Address: IP 172.26.100.04
    User: .CN=AOS36816 WINXP
    00:1F:E2:14:73:CC.OU=Workstations.O=<OrgName>.T=<T reeName>.
I checked the NSA3500 device and the TZ210 device. There are packets (TCP
    524) going from the laptop to the NSA3500 device and then nothing is heard
from them again on the TZ210 device.
I'm wondering if the 524 packets are not getting send down the VPN tunnel.
And if that is the case, WHY is the server on the other end of this given me
    failed logins?
Am I making myself clear about this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello again...
    I also forgot something.
It sometimes does this for minutes, hours, sometimes week after week and
    then
It stops for no apparent reason and the count on failed logins starts to
drop after an hour or so.
    That's the really weird part.
