Login problem with Ichat

I'm new to Mac. Just bought a new MacBookPro. Setup a new @mac.com account to access Ichat. When I try to logon it says I have no account. But I do and it routes me to change password. I can logon to my @mac.com account on the Apple site.
Is there some kind of delay or is something else wrong that keeps me from getting logged in?

At present @Mac is being moved to @me.com names as part of the process to move to MobileMe rather than .mac.
This has casued some Issues with the AIM servers synching with the Apple ones for both @ amc and @Me names.
The "Fix" at present seems to be to ignore adding the name as an @mac on in iChat and type the whole of the one you have in to the AIM type box
At this point choose AIM and add whole name including suffix
Like this as it were

  • Problem with iChat changing my custom away message after 30 minutes

Lately, I've been having a big problem with iChat changing any custom away message that I put up to "Away" after 30 minutes or so. Is there anything I can do to make it stop? Another issue I'm having is that sometimes when people on my buddy list change their away message, it doesn't show up on iChat unless I go offline and then sign back on. Any idea why it's doing that, and what I can do to get it to stop?
    Thanks.

    Hi ienjoyanime,

Does it say you are set to Go to Away when you log off/QUit iChat ?
is the computer going to Sleep at this point ?

  • New problem with iChat

    Good morn
I still haven resoved my previous post about connection problems with iChat, but hope to do that when I visit my dad next month. Thanks for all the advice anyway.
A new problem has emerged, and seemed to coincide with the install of Tiger 10.3 last week. Now when I try to connect to various tests sites, I get an "insufficient bandwidth" error.
Is this likely to be a problem with Tiger, as I have not changed my isp, settings or broadband type?
Or could it just be the exess load on the system over the Christmas period with all those naughty teenage boys downloading **** and playing games during the school hols?
Any suggestions and/or fixes greatfully accepted.
    Thanks

  • Problems with iChat 4.0.2 / Leopard / BT HomeHub

I have a .Mac account and iChat 4 on a iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 and using A BT Home Hub for my internet connection. I am able to have a video chat with my wife who has a Powerbook / Leopard / iChat 4 set up in our house, both using the BT Home Hub. But when I try to set up a video chat with my friend in Copenhagen who has a .Mac account and a Powerbook running Leopard it won't let us connect. It will let us have a text only chat.
I have read various posts on this subject and changed the firewall to let iChat in, changed the Quicktime streaming to 1.5 Mbps and changed the port in iChat server settings to 443.
Has anyone else any ideas, I am thinking maybe the Home Hub is the problem as i can connect to my wife's Powerbook on our home network.

I too am having problems with iChat 4.02 on an iMac running Leopard 10.5.2 as are numerous people having different hardware/software configurations. I've tried some of the suggestions like changing the server settings to 443, and changing the firewall to let iChat in. I believe somewhere, somehow Apple or AOL have changed something that may be causing these problems. I'm not technical enough to go changing a bunch of things and hope it works.
iChat was working for me about a week or so ago using AIM. I could video chat with a MacBook running 10.5.2, a MacBook Pro running Tiger and a Dell PC. Last night when I tried using AIM and iChat i could only text. However, I could video chat using our dotmac accounts and server settings 5190. But for some reason you aren't able to do that.
At first I thought it was because I stumbled into using CUPS to get my Xerox color laser printer finally working (after getting the new iMac) by changing localhost:631 to find my printer at port 9100 (whatever all of this means). But deleting the printer didn't restore iChat.
Someone on this forum suggested that installing Safari 3.1.1 may have somehow caused the problem. Maybe they are on to something!
My most recent software updates are:

  • Problem with ichat, error message says computer does not support video chat

I have never had a problem with Ichat until yesterday...now apparently I don't have the video capability.  I am running 10.7.2.  I turned off Facetime.  I now have the video camera image but it won't let me video chat.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
In iChat open the Connection Doctor (Video menu) and the the Capabilities option
Are all items showing Green ?
Try restarting iChat (It re-reads the computers Ability at each launch)
If that does not work try restarting the Computer.
Make sure that in iChat menu > Preference > Video Section the Bandwidth Limit is not set to 100kbps (this is too Low for 1-1 video chats)
    Do a Speed test
"Real World" speeds need at least 256kbps both up and down.
Check the System Profiler is "seeing" the camera.
It will be in Hardware > USB

  • Problem with iChat AIM - Multiple login, log out

I am having a recurring problem with my iChat. Every time I try to log into AIM when I'm home, it rapidly logs in and logs out, and then tells me that I have loged in too many times and need to wait a few minutes to try again. I have tried the delete .plist file solution, but this did not work. This is a very very annoying problem, because I love using iChat when it actually works.
I have also tried using other IM applications, and they all work flawlessly... whats up iChat? Any Ideas?
    R.V.

    Hi,
The problem is not limited to Netgears.
In fact I never had the issue with the Netgear I had.
It is an extremely well documented issue with Zyxel devices since iChat 2
134 response to Searching for Zyxel across iChat 2 and 3 forums.
It sort of goes like this.
At one time routing modems or routers could only do Port Forwarding
This involved pointing one port at One IP (Computer)
You could not forward a Port to two computers (IPs)
Since then manufacturers have added in stating Protocols as well as Ports to open.
So as UDP and TCP protocols tend to be the ones on ports above 1024 you have some apps that have both Protocols in use and in some cases on the same port.
It does seem that this business of not being able to Forward a Port twice also effects those were you ow have to state Protocols as well.
    iChat uses two ports twice.
Port 5190 is used to do the AIM Log in and basic Text chats on TCP
It used UDP to Send Files, Pics-in-Chats (Direct IMs) and certain Buddy List feedback and Group chats (Chatrooms).
Less effected is the Bonjour Port 5298
The regular posters have long since held the view that the AIM servers sometimes can not handle all the login and text traffic on just port 5190 (ICQ is also owned by AOL and on this same port).
We Suggest port 443 for several reasons.
However it is mainly as this is below the threshold of 1024
There are in fact 65535 ports that could be in use.
Most domestic devices have the port up to 1024 open to all computers connected.
This means Web Browsing (Port 80) and Mail (ports 110, 443, 567, 955 and others) are below this threshold and will work "out-of-the-box"
As any firewall included in the device or on a Mac with Tiger or Earlier the port 443 is likely to be opened for a Mail App (It is also used in Web Browsing to Secure sites like Banks and the Apple Discussions Log in page) so that several apps can use the port.
It is worth noting that the Leopard Firewall works differently in allowing the ports associated with an App on an Certificated (by app) basis so there is no Piggy-backing.
On the SPI (Or if you have DOS) Front.
These features tend to be Threshold based.
DOS comes from the time when so called Hackers got together to all try the same web site/page and repeatedly refresh the page so that the server got lots of incoming requests.
This overloaded the server and brought down the whole web server and the computer it was on lost connection to the internet as a whole.
DOS protection looks to see if this "Too Much Data, Too Quickly" scenario is happening and will cut that one port (In the case of iChat 4) that it is happening on.
(iChat Can send LOTS of data)
SPI tends to try and filter things in a different manner by checking if the data looks valid.
IT seems in some cases it can not keep up with the amount of data iChat can stream and consequently cuts the connection the same as DOS does.
Both are dependent on how fast your Buddies Processor is, how fast their Internet Connection.
(Some Buddies can send only 15fps of a 640 X 480 pixel pic other can manage 30fps or twice as much data)
This is somewhat augmented (or not) by how fast you can accept data both over your Download speeds and your processor dealing with it.
Therefore it can seem to be an intermittent problem depending on the circumstances of the connection of that chat.
My Netgear had DOS and It had it Off (Along with the Ping Blocking)
My Current Sagem Fast 2504 has only the Block to Internet Pings settings which is Off
So on the whole Experience and Practice.

  • AD account Login problem with MAC 10.6.8

    Hi All,
We have around 50 odd MAC that are connected to windows server 2008 R2. the user were logining in to these MACs using their AD account. Recently few of the random MAC did not allow the user to login using their AD account. When analyzed though the MAC shows that it has connected to the Domain and the server is active with green button it has unbind itself from the server.I had to login in as local user bind the MAC back to get this resolved.
Now the same has started happeneing for most of the MAC that we have and every morning I have login as local Admin and unbind / bind the MAC with the server. this gets reset once the user reboots or shutsdown.
Have tried with few of the below solution but nothing helped:
    Solution 1:
    <key>mdns_timeout</key>
    <integer>2</integer>
The integer value is in seconds; changing it to at least 5 should allow the Mac OS X client to reconnect to the Active Directory domain after a network interruption. In some configurations, a larger timeout value may be required.
You can change this value by using the sudo command and a text editor to edit the preference file directly. Or you can use the Terminal command below, making sure to enter it all on a single line:
    sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'Set :mdns_timeout 5' /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/IPMonitor.bundle/Contents/Info.plist
    Solution 2:
I have seen all of the probable solutions and tried everything and still I am getting issues with 10.6.6 and after rebooting the Mac gets unbind. Or the Mac gets Network Accounts Available even when not accessing the list of users from AD. But the thing that I have done that has solved all my issues with AD on the Macs is to uncheck the box to search on all domains. For some reason I am seeing that when the Macs have this option checked, it searches through out the forest on the same domain controller more than once, so AD stops the handshaking of the authentication.
I hope this helps like it did on our Network, since then I have not seen the Macs lose the binding or slow SMB.
If you've tried this please let us know.
TIP: Uncheck Allow Authentication from any domain for Mac AD problems
    Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Steven Wells sent a fix and an explanation of problems with Macs losing their binding to Active Diretory:
Unchecking "Allow authentication from any domain in the forest" is working at our college. We have been beating our heads on this for about 2 terms, with no understanding of why it works in some places and not in others. When we found this working, our IT guy said that the Security SID is being duplicated, when it looks in other domain forest, and that is what is causing the problem. This is the first time I have found an explanation for the problem.
If you've tried this approach please let us know.
    Solution 3:
Solved it. Create a file in Textedit with the name 'auto_master' (no file extension) with the following contents:
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master # Use directory service
    /net -hosts -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home auto_home -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    #/Network/Servers -fstab
    /- -static
    Place this in /etc/ folder
    Hope this helps
    solution 4:
TIP: a Kerberos fix for OS X 10.5 and 10.6 binding to Active directory
    Friday, November 11, 2011
Mehdi Mafi forwarded a fix he found for problems with Leopard and Snow Leopard binding to Active Directory:
This was taken from Dane Riley's imaging building for DeployStudio.
With Mac OS X Leopard every Mac is now running a KDC (Kerberos Distribution Center). Basically each imaged machine is using the same security certificate and hash. Deploying a single image will deploy the same KDC to every system. This [Apple] article covers how to reset the local KDC so that each system is unique. Basically, do the following:
    Launch Keychain Access
Search for com.apple.kerberos.kdc and delete all 3 items
Using Terminal type sudo rm -fr /var/db/krb5kdc
After deployment, perhaps using Apple Remote Desktop to all systems, re- establish the KDC by typing sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC
If you've tried this approach with Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6, or even Lion, please let us know. .
TIP: More on a kerberos fix for AD binding problems
    Monday, November 14, 2011
Mehdi Mafi updated his Friday report about Mac OS X 10.6 problems binding to Active Directory:
You may want to add this. If the Mac keeps unbinding from AD (people can't log in to a Mac), here is how to fix it:
    Unbind it from Domain
    Launch Keychain Access
Search for com.apple.kerberos.kdc and delete all 3 items
Using Terminal type sudo rm -fr /var/db/krb5kdc
Re-establish the KDC by typing sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC
Bind it to domain again ( When you bind, uncheck allow authentication from any domain in the forest in: Directory Utilitiy-> Advanced Options\Administrative ) this fix the issue that sometimes it can' find AD under search space.
If you tried this please let us know.
    Solution 5:
For Snow Leopard AD login issues, use upper case domain
    Solution 6: for .local
To create this StartupItem, create the following directory as root:
    /Library/StartupItems/FixADAuth
Then chown it to root:wheel and chmod it to 755. These must also be the owner/permissions on the two files it will contain, below:
    Contents of our /Library/StartupItems/FixADAuth/FixADAuth:
    #!/bin/bash
    . /etc/rc.common
    date > /var/log/FixADAuth.log
    n=0
    AuthSuccess=0
    while [ $AuthSuccess != 1 ]
    do
id Administrator && AuthSuccess=1 || networksetup -setsearchdomains Ethernet "Empty"; networksetup -setsearchdomains Ethernet middlewich.local; n=$(($n+1))
    done
    echo Authentication successful: $AuthSuccess >> /var/log/FixADAuth.log echo Operation count: $n >> /var/log/FixADAuth.log
    date >> /var/log/FixADAuth.log
    Contents of our /Library/StartupItems/FixADAuth/StartupParameters.plist:
    Description = "Fixes Active Directory authentication issue";
    Uses = ("Disks");
Obviously you'll need to change "middlewich.local" to your own domain name (and the network interface name if your connection is wireless). The script checks to see if it can see the user "Administrator" on the domain, as he's a fairly common bloke, but if you've renamed yours for security reasons then pick another one. I've also included some logging functionality for debug purposes, so you can verify how well the script is working if you need to and time it in your environment before telling the users how long to wait. The /var/log/FixADAuth.log file will contain the date/time the process started, the success variable set to 1 (just to verify), how many DNS operations were required to fix the problem, and the date/time it ended. For us the time difference is normally about +30-40 seconds with around 120-180 operations taking place. Once you're happy with the script, you can strip it down to its bare functionality if you like, like so for us:
    #!/bin/bash
    . /etc/rc.common
    AuthSuccess=0
    while [ $AuthSuccess != 1 ]
    do
id Administrator && AuthSuccess=1 || networksetup -setsearchdomains Ethernet "Empty"; networksetup -setsearchdomains Ethernet middlewich.local
    done
    I hope this helps someone!
    Regards

    You are welcome.

  • Internet problems with iChat

    Hi,
i opened the Ports 1024-65584 for iChat in my router's configuration two days ago. And now i have problems with my internet connection.
The connection is available, obviously, but I can't use iChat. Everytime I open iChat I can't open websites any more, without an error message.
When I close iChat and restart my MacBook everything's fine, until I open iChat again ...
I'm using DHCP in the network configuration, that can't be the reason for my problem because it worked for month (with my old iBook an my new MacBook). And it still works with my iBook, but not with the MacBook.
I hope you understand my problem and my german english:)

I seems that the problem has been in the router configuration …

  • There are two separate login problems, with different solutions

I have just spent a couple of hours fixing a 24in iMac that kept rejecting the account login after installing Leopard. (login with correct password goes to blue screen then back to loginscreen)
I went through the Apple tech doc that had you logging in as a single user (Cmd-s) and it did not work.
What did work for me was an archive and install of Leopard.
It seems that anyone with a new iMac that installed the recent imac update is having this problem. For those people, archive and install seems to work.

For other people, the single-user instructions seem to work.

    Hello all,
I'm experiencing the following problem. I cannot login to mobileMe via Aperture 3, because MobileMe didn't recognize the stored password for "xxxxx's" MobileMe account; the username/password combination is not recognized. I've tried the following (in all possible orders):
    1. Close Aperture3
    2. Logout of MobileMe account
    3. In Keychain delete settings for MobileMe
    4. Login to MobileMe again
    5. Open Aperture3
    Anybody any suggestions?

  • Login problem with LinkedIn

I cannot login to LinkedIn with Firefox but there is no such problem with IE8. The trouble started about 2 months ago when I had version 3.6.15 and continues with the present version 4.0.1. I have been in correspondence with LinkedIn ever since but nothing they suggest works. I like Firefox and it is my default browser, so it is annoying to have to use IE8 just for this task. I would therefore very much appreciate any solutions that anyone can offer.

I didn't face any problem with both apps until the 2nd of October 2012. Since then and both apps telling me that Apple ID doesn't match with the entered password. The same password is used for app store and working with no problem, the password have been used even to log in to the support as well as Icloud.
I have tried the following actions with no result:
    1- Soft reset the IPAD.
2- Time is set to automatic.
3- Set the time to USA.
4- Time set back to auto.
5- Connect using different WiFi networks.
I hope I can find a solution, I am using both apps to keep in touch with my family.

I did a total reset and start the IPAD as a new one before restore...same problem exist
after restore try again and with the same problem...
Finally I have created a new apple ID and used it only for facetime and imessages...and it works....
I can't really understand the problem....
It is not a problem with communication or IPAD settings because it worked with another apple ID
it is not a problem with server or account because I am still using my old ID with my macbook
