Login screen only displays users, not name/pwd fields

I'd like my Mac to display just a name and password field when booting, but it will only show a list of users instead, even with that option unchecked in Login Options. I have Filevault enabled; does this have anything to do with it? Please advise.

It may be possible, but not recommended, as Apple does not support that and you may have issues to log in them. Remove them if you do not need them, but if not, I am afraid you will have to choose the user you want to log in with. This is even more difficult to change with FileVault, because your Mac asks you for the user and password before starting loading OS X (remember that your Mac's drive is encrypted).

Power on MacBook Pro takes me to login screen. All user icons appear as normal. Once I enter password for myself (administrator) spinning takes longer than normal and doesn't log in but displays a no sign (circle w line through it) when attempting to login from guest account it takes me to screen that says that the computer will restart to a safe safari system for the guest user. I waited for a longer time and the grey denim screen comes up. By the apple in left upper corner it said I think LSA? Then safari menu bar. • My iTunes Account only displays 1, not 3 security questions. WHY?

This has been a problem from he#l!!!
My iTunes account only displays *1*, not 3 security questions.
I cannot d/l any digital downloads from the external blu-ray combo disks w/downloads, as iTunes is DEMANDING 3 security questions.
I've been informed that I need to create a "rescue e-mail" --- I've reset my password account over 20 times (at appleid.apple.com) and the system doesn't show a selection for rescue e-mail (I can add multiple alternative e-mail addresses).
Has anyone else found a solution to this? Does Apple need to effect a master reset to my account????

It was already unchecked and im not quite sure what you mean by "click-to-drag"
Also, I can back up my iphone and it will sync genius data. Just not the recent music I downloaded.

  • Can I disable the LCD screen from displaying the Network Name or Password of my device?

Can I disable the LCD screen from displaying the Network Name or Password of my device?  I feel that having this information readily available to any who can turn on my device is a security flaw.
I have change the network name and password and would like to secure that information .

Worked with VZW tech support and finally found where you can disable or mask  the display of the network name and password on the Jetpack LCD screen.  You need to access the admin screen of your jetpack (http://my.jetpack/) .  From there, navigate to Jetpack Settings --> Click on Wifi tab -- Click on the Wi-Fi Options link halfway down the page and it will show the two settings that control the display of network name and password.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words...here are screen shots showing how to get to these settings. ...
The LCD display will show ********* for the network name and password if the two checkboxes above are unchecked. I really think these settings should be disabled to be begin with.
Oh well...posting here to share with those interested...

  • Can not get to Login Screen. Possible User Account or .plist Corruption?

I was helping a client who is upgrading both her desktop and a laptop machine. She had already started the process and she had used the migration tool to move her user account from her old G4 to both her new Mac Pro and MacBook pro. So basically both new machines were now clones of the old G4 which was running Tiger.
Everything was going well and we were busy doing some other stuff when I suggested to her that she should set up a secondary user account on each machine. This is something I suggest to users, because I have seen user accounts get corrupted, and if that account is the ONLY account on the machine, you are not going to be able to do anything on that machine (easily). At least with teh other account, you can log in and see the drive, etc.
So she set up a new user and also enabled fast user switching and I was about to show her how the whole user switching works, but when we choose to log out of her current account, the Mac went to blue screen and just got hung up. After much waiting we had to force a hard shut down. Upon restart we see the Apple logo and then go to the blue screen, but we never reach the login screen.
I wrote this off as a fluke, but also told her that I am not to comfortable with that and decided to completely wipe the drive and do a fresh install of everything and not use the migration assistant. All is well with that machine now.
So we moved on to the Mac Book Pro and we repeated the same addition of a user and upon logout it did the exact same thing. So by now I am sure that something in the library form the old G4 must be corrupt, because both of these machines were basically clones of that one. So we are probably going to do the same thing to this one too, but I was wondering if I could learn something from this.
Assuming that some .plist is corrupted, ( probably the com.apple.loginwindow.plist) I was thinking I could access the drive through target mode, find that. plist and delete it. But then that made me think, if I were to delete it, what would the Mac do at startup if it sees no .plist of the login screen or user accounts?
Also, is there a way to alter the login options through single user mode. So for example I am quite sure that it is the .plist for the log-in options that is corrupted. So if I could change the login option to automatically log into her account, thus bypassing the login screen, I think we can bypass this issue for now.
    Thanks.

First you don't delete the suspect .plist, you move or rename it. Deletion is down the road a piece
Second, when the system boots, it recreates any missing .plist files, presuming nothing else is wrong.
Many, including myself, have dragged the entire Preferences directory onto the desktop and rebooted without a problem.

  • Help, my user has disappeared in login screen except Guest User after updating to 10.7.2

  • I have OSX 10.5.7 on my Intel Mac. When I try to login using the correct password the screen goes white and just returns back to the login screen. It does not jiggle like when you enter the wrong password.

I have had a number of issues with my Intel Mac recently and had to reboot using disk utilities, safe mode, OSX recovery, but always come back to the login screen but when I type my password the screen goes white and returns to the login screen. My password is correct and the login does not jiggle as it would if the password was wrong. Please advise,

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. There are ways to back up, even if you can’t log in. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore everything to the state it’s in now. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP.
The procedure below may spare you the need for a clean reinstallation of OS X. If you don't feel comfortable carrying it out, don't. try.
Briefly, you need to delete the following file:
    /var/audit/current
If you already know how to do that, you can skip the rest of this message. Do it, and try again to log in.
Boot in single-user mode by holding down the key combination command-S at the startup chime. If you’re using an external USB keyboard, it must be plugged directly into a built-in port on the Mac, not into a hub. Release the keys when you see a black screen with scrolling white text. In this mode, there’s no graphical interface; just a command line. Initially, you can’t make any changes to files.
When the text stops scrolling, and you see a line ending in a pound sign (“#”), type the following command:
    mount -uw /
You must type the command exactly as given, with no mistakes. If you don’t feel able to do that, STOP. At this stage, no harm will be done if you make a mistake, but later, it will be. Press the return key.
    Next, type the following command:
    rm -i /var/audit/current
Press return. You should get the following output:
    remove /var/audit/current?
If that's not what you get, STOP. Type the single letter N, press return, and try again. Otherwise, type the single letter Y and pressreturn.
    Finally, enter the command:
    exit
Press return. The text will start scrolling again, and then the system will reboot. Try again to log in.

Otjherwise is there any chance to create a custom webpart using Yammer API ? If so where I can find it ? what are the root Dll's and root classes to implement it.
    Regards,
    Rajesh

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that when you access the Yammer Feed app, it occur "401:unauthorized access" .
If this error occurs in few browsers, it could be related to browser settings.  The Yammer Feed app requires the user has third party cookies enabled in their browsers.
Here are some similar threads about the solution for this issue:

  • Login Screen list of users

After the most recent OSX Lion update (10.7.2) I now get an icon for both myself and the ""Guest" user account. I have the "Guest" user account disabled in System Preferences. Why is it now showing up on my login screen? Never did before.

Did you enable the root user? I just installed an IMac and eabling root caused the second user option to show up on the login screen.

  • Login screen for shared wifi not working on iPhone 5.

I'm at college and we need to login to get wifi in our dorms. When I try connecting to our network I get this login screen.
I have tried resetting the network settings and turning off/on wifi but nothing is working. If I join and then hit cancel and try going on safari to see if the login screen shows up it just reverts to cellular data. I've done a little research and it seems this is a problem with apple's servers but I just want to know if there is anything I can do to fix the issue. Thanks.

Well tried all of the resets, restarts and restores and still need to be 6ft from the router.. Will have to look at returning it for new one. Thanks for your comments though.
Lucky I have unlimited data on 3G that all.

  • Acrobat Pro XI v.11.0.06 - PDF created by Microstation Print Organizer - Windows 7 -  Printing shaded squares on top of shaded building and not displayed on screen, only displays on paper when printing

I have attached an image of the sheet to show the areas that are shaded. The building is supposed to be shaded, however the two squares within are not. These squares are not in the file converted to pdf and do not display on screen when viewing the pdf. Also there are several sheets in the set with shaded buildings and only two of the buildings have this issue. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeing this same problem happen on multiple platforms here in the office. Every time this happens, the screen view does not show these shapes. I have been seeing the same problem except linework will be missing in one of these square shapes as well. Please give feedback if anyone knows what causes this problem. One thing to note -  these squares are the size and placement of a selection box within acrobat.  For example, if i use the selection tool and click near where the problem printed out, the shaded area that gets selected is in the exact same spot and is the exact size.@

Its not a huge problem, it just annoys me sometimes. Its also done this in previous version of the OS its just continuing to do so. Thanks in advance
