Login / startup items not loading at boot

Since 10.10.1, I've had a problem with my login / startup items not all loading at startup.  It occurs about 1 in 3 boots (only half of my items load).  Any idea what could be causing this?

A little more info . . . I've done a fresh install (cloned to an external drive, erased my internal SSD, installed Yosemite 10.10.2 from a USB stick, migrated everything from the cloned external), and I still have this problem.

  • Preventing Startup Items From Loading

How do I get the startup items to not load in OS 10.8.5? I've upgraded and now when I press the Shift key after I login to an account it doesn't prevent the startup items from loading. What key(s) do I press to prevent the startup items from loading in Mountain Lion?
    Thanks

Are you trying to boot into the Safe Mode? If not, why don't you want the startup items to load? More information about what you are trying to do would help.

Are you talking about kext's?  Did you check that they are even there (look in /System/Library/Extensions or type kextstat in terminal).

  • Login Startup Items

I've updated my Tiger 10.4.10 to Leopard and now I am unable to open Settings -> User -> Startup Items. This opens an empty window after a while.

Does it really say "Startup Items" and not "Login Items"? They stopped calling them "Startup Items" several OS X versions ago so if yours says "Startup Items", that could indicate some very strange failure to update certain components (this assumes you are using "English" as the localization). An "Archive and Install" might be warranted under such circumstances.
Otherwise, you could try moving the "loginwindow.plist" file (not to be confused with the "com.apple.loginwindow.plist" file) from the user's "~/Library/Preferences" folder - perhaps it has become corrupted and preventing "System Preferences" from reading it, or there is some item common to both machines that the pref pane finds disagreeable. After removing the file, it will of course be necessary to re-add any login items.

  • W7/64 USB Drivers not loading on boot-up

Installed W7/64 onto clean SSD with all ThinkPad items added and updated off the Driver Matrix (W500).
Using with 2503 Dock I have up to 13 USB devices attached .. just like in former WXP-SP3 setup.
Now when I start the system, only my Logitech LASER mouse (with USB transceiver) driver loads ... ALL others have yellow flag (not loaded). Strange is that this even affects my expansion slots ... that don't register until  USB flagged drivers are manually updated.
Further I looked in the windows/system32/drivers folder and none of the several USB driver files are present.
Is there a way to repair this situation without the agony of reinstalling everything.
    Please, advise.

Installation worked with no errors but now when I boot up the mouse cursor is at the top left of the screen and refuses to work until I manually unplug it and push it back in again. Annoying to say the least.
Have you tried another mouse?  Have you tried a different USB port?  If the mouse is plugged into a hub, have you tried plugging directly into the Mac?
Also the scroll-reversal option is missing from the relevant control panel.
    Any sensible suggestions?
To confirm, can you screen shot the Mouse System Preference?
If all else fails, you can install Scroll Reverser.  It was for Lion developers to get accustomed to the Lion-style scrolling before Lion was released, but it works just fine in Lion for these unusual situations.  (e.g.: older Macbook Pro without a multitouch trackpad.)

  • 64-bit driver does not load at boot

    Hi.
After recompiling a scsi target driver for 64 bits, it does not load automatically at boot time as it does if booting 32-bit kernel.
The 64-bit module is copied to /usr/kernel/drv/sparcv9. the <driver>.conf file is in /usr/kernel/drv. Using add_drv is fine, it attaches and loads the driver (the driver works also).
It also loads using modload manually after boot or calling it from /etc/rc3 or so.
what else is required on 64-bit kernel to get the autoload?
    Thanks,
    Luis.

  • Crash at Startup / preferences not loaded

    Hi there,
Been having this problem for a week now. Logic's been crashing at startup a lot. Some time though, Logic starts up normally except for an error message at startup saying that the preferences are not loaded completely and advising me not to save them as it would overwrite the current preferences with incomplete data. When it manages to start up (I normally need to try 3/4 times before it happens), after I click OK on the preferences message, I can use Logic normally...
Has anybody ever encountered such a problem?
Thanks a lot for your help

upgrade to 10.3.9 or the best is 10.4.2 if there is nothing stopping you
and also go as much as you can on rams because you are abit low on rams , say 1.5gb
what version of logic? the latest is 7.1.1 and it works better with 10.4.2
if you don't have that then the free update is 7.0.1 and also you need pro app support 3.1
    Osx 10.3.9
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
    Security update

    Pro app support 3.1

  • User has a "startup on login" pref that opens a file named "apple-scc-20111227-074257".  Can't find any reference to this....any idea on what this startup file does or if it can be safely removed as a login-startup item?  thanks.

Friend has a laptop running OSX 10.6.8, with latest software update 22Jun2012.  One of the User's items to startup on Login is a file titled "
    apple-scc-20111227-074257"
No idea what this does or where it is located.....any ideas on what it starts up and if it can be safely removed from startup items?  Thanks for any info.

If you mouse over the item in your Login Items you should see a tool tip indicating where it is.  Alternatively right (control) click on it and a contextual menu item, Reveal in Finder will be shown which you can select to open the folder containing the item.
By the way the 20111227 portion of that name looks like a date -- 12/27/2011.
I'm  sure you can delete it.  Nothing major is going to happen.  But you really should find out where it is.
If Reveal in Finder doesn't show anything it may be because the file is invisible (which might be considered somewhat suspicious).  In that case use the finder find command (command-f) and look for kind filename plus invisible.  Or just use Find any File to find it.

  • Problems on OSX, items not loading.

I'm using Firefox 8.0.1 on an iMac running OS 10.6.8 and having serious issues. Certain websites will not load all their content. For example, at the NOAA website, the weather map will not load, on Google Maps I click on photos and it will not open them. The bar at the bottom of the page says "done", yet there is clearly stuff missing. I've tried disabling plug ins, reinstalling, clearing cache, nothing helps. At this point, Firefox is nearly useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Firefox used to be great but is terrible now.

Figured it out, it was Disconnect.

  • Icons will not load on boot

I'm posting this from a mac in my video production class, the eMac that I am trying to use will not load its icons nor files, the only thing it will do is run its progs, but you cant open any files in them. When I move the curser to the desktop, it shows the little swirly thing. I have restarted, re-logged in, and consulted the teacher. What is the problem?

    AthrunXT,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Are you logged on to a normal non-administrative account or to a restricted user account? Whomever setup and maintains the computers in your class lab should know the answer. Debugging and troubleshooting will generally require administrative user ststus on the computer, so possible answers depend to some extent on your class account type.
If there are other users with accounts on this Mac, do they have the same problem?

  • HANA XS - How to fix Inactive Testing issue of items not loading (when using the cookie)

Is anyone else having issues with the inactive testing using the cookie (sapXsDevWorkspace)?  My team has abandoned using it because it is causing us a lot of trouble.  It initially worked well for a few hours, but eventually it stopped loading resources.  We got errors loading the SAP js libs or even the newly commited ( but not activated) code changes.
I have seen the feedback on SCN post http://scn.sap.com/thread/3517042 but we cannot seem to fix the issue of the system not loading things.  I am on version SPS7 (1.00.70.00.386119) on AWS and I have seen it work for a short period then it seems to get flaky and stop working.   I don't understand what is causing the error to occur as I cannot make it do the same thing twice.
    Here are some screenshots:
    Cookie defined in Chrome
    Repository Name with my user:
    This is the result:
Sometimes it loads more of the files and fails later:
I verified that I logged in under the same user and the cookie name.  The system has developer_mode set to true.  Is there something we're missing?
    Jim Giffin.

    Hi Jim, Hi Matthias
we are facing the exact same problem with our project.
Jim, we had the same phenomenon that it worked for 1-2 reloads and then stopped at all.
After looking into it, I figured out, that the browser was using cached files from all resources except from the "inactive" new files, which we could access with the cookie. This made it work, however, when we refreshed again, the browser eventually removed its cache and tried to load inactive versions from files that didn't had any.
We ended up in empty responses (no content, no headers)
We are really looking forward to find some answers here, as it constantly causes trouble to work with multiple developers on the same activated code base.
Any input or suggestions are appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Axel

  • Rearranging the sequence of login startup items

A couple of months ago, I bought a Mac Mini with Leopard. But I can't change the order of the startup items as I could with Panther. Is that just the way it is and I need to contact Apple to request that functionality be returned, or am I missing something? (I've tried Option-clicking and Command-clicking.)

I disagree. I want the daemon for my wireless control device to launch first because, when it launches last, the device doesn't respond per my preferences.
There's an obvious delay for applications later in the sequence.

  • TFS 2010 Team Web Access Work Items not loading dropdowns and not saving

Some of our users have lost their ability to add new work items. When they select New -> Bug the WorkItemEdit page opens, but none of the dropdowns load and required fields are no longer highlighted. When they click save it acts like
it refreshes, but actually nothing is saved and work item numbers are not assigned. No error message is displayed. This also occurs when they try to edit existing work items. We have checked permissions and these have not changed. We have cleared cache
and rebooted the server and local laptops. Is there anywhere else we can check to see what is going on? Anyone else have this issue before? It seems like we are loosing another person's capabilities every day.

Thank you for your help. We have SP1 scheduled for install Monday morning. However, we have been running a lot of tests. We are testing mainly in Chrome and IE 9 browsers.
I was able to get 2 users back up and working. Not sure what fixed them, but I had them log into the server and test there. Accessing the web portal on the server worked for them and when they went back to their laptops their full capabilities
were working there again. I have since removed their rdp access to the server and the capabilities are still working correctly on their laptops.
However, I have a 3rd user that I had log into the server and updating and creating new work items did not work for him. This is the error he receives when opening a work item. This user did try testing in Mozilla one day this week.

    Hello Kiran,
It looks like there's something wrong with your FW_View assets. Those should not be published. It might be best to restore the environment from a back-up. You could try recreating the views association in the AssocNamed table, as it seems to be missing, but I don't know if that will solve it. If you want to try that, you need these records:
    AssocNamed:
    ID
    NAME
    DESCRIPTION
    ASSETTYPE
    DEPTYPE
    CHILDASSETTYPE
    MULTIVALUED
    {some id}
    views
    views
    FW_Application
    E
    FW_View
    T
    AssocNamed_Subtypes:
    ID
    OWNERID
    SUBTYPE
    REQUIRED
    {some other id}
    {id of AssocNamed}
    F
You can use Sites-Explorer to create the records. Though first you may want to check if it's not a caching issue by deleting the cscache and linkedcache ehCache directories when the server is not running.
    Kind regards,
    Stephan.
