Logitech USB headset non-functional

I recently bought a pair of USB headphones to use with Skype. They work fine on older Mac OS computers I have, but not on the laptop which I upgraded to 10.4.8.
Anyone else dealing with this? I've tried permissions, trashing prefs; all that stuff, to no avail.
If you have any ideas, they'd be welcome.
Thanks!
Ron

Hi
I have the Logitech Headset Premium Stereo 350 USB. Since the 10.4.6 upgrade (I think) it has not been working as it should, but it does still work. You need to go into System Preference > Sound > Output, have the headset selected as the output device, and then click the mute button on and off. Have the headset on while you do this and play with the volume control at the same time so you will hear when the sound does start to come from the headset. I have no idea why Logitech have not sorted this problem out yet, but the headset does work fine if you are prepared to fiddle around every time you use it.
While we are here I want to recommend SoundSource for quickly changing audio inputs and outputs. It doesn't help much with the current problem, however.
Edit: BTW on my headset, the flashing blue light is the mute indicator for the microphone. Pressing the centre button toggles it on and off.

  • Logitech USB Headsets non-responsive without reboot.

When I plug certain USB headsets (Logitech) into my MacBook Pro, despite the device being recognised in the Sound Control panel and the microphone working, no sound comes through the headset speakers, unless the MacBook Pro is rebooted WITH the headset plugged in. Since no device driver is supplied or needed with it I assume this is a bug in OS-X.
I can go to the Sound control panel and toggle between built in and the headset as much as I like, unless the headset it plugged in when the Mac starts up, there's no sound from the headset (internal speakers work fine when selected).
    Anyone else had this problem?

I found the exact same problem. My Logitech headset has been working flawlessly for over a year, even when I changed to MacBook Pro. Recently, however, I need to plug it in before restart to have it working at all. Additionally, as soon as I unplug und replug it, it stops responding and restart is the only remedy.

  • Logitech USB headset

We had a logitech USB headset for Dragon and it all worked fine.
Headset wires broke and so I replaced it with the closest one I could find (ML-341) to what we had.
So let's forget Dragon and just look at the MacBook Air.
When I am in System Preferences -> Sound it recognizes
    a) the internal microphone,
    b) the USB headset that came with Dragon (USB Ear - Microphone) and
    c) the USB Logitech headset (Logitech USB Headset)
BUT as I switch amng all three in SOUNDS the Logtech doesn't work.  (no blue input levels moving)
Volume is up and mute is off.
I don't have to box but I am certain it is a Mac compatible Logitech as that is what I went to buy.
I have looked at the utility MDDI? but don't see anything I should be changing there either.
    What's up?

  • Logitech usb headset not usable is some apps

The device works fine in some apps (skype) but not in others (xlite, kiax, audacity). In the apps that it doesn't work you only see the default sound card /dev/dsp. There are no entries for /dev/dsp1 or /dev/dsp2. Very strange. It's not the headset because it works fine on another computer running Kanotix.
    cat /proc/asound/cards shows the following:

    You are not alone!!
    Same problem with Plantronics.
I just bought their Audio 648 Stereo USB Headset and have exactly the same issue you mention at the outset:
Essentially, while my [Plantronics Audio 648] Headset is recognized in the list of devices in System Preferences > Sound, it doesn't do anything in terms of outputting or inputting audio
So Apple, what are you going to do?...
A lot of third party accessory manufacturers must be getting quite frustrated at the numer of complaints they get from Mac users, when it seems its the Mac OS which is to blame...

  • Can I conect a Logitech USB headset H540 to a MBP?

I have a Logitech USB headset H540 that my MBP wont recognise. I have plugged it in,opened the system preferences and clicked both the input and the output but the headset does not even show up. I have unplugged it rebooted the computer, and tried all sorts of options.

What does Logitech say about this?  It's is their hardware so they should have a solution.  It almost definitely has nothing to do with iTunes itself (the forum on which you posted).  Did you read the installation instructions?  Some devices may requires specific drivers for which there may not be one for Macs, or certain output settings in your system preferences panels which you will have to peruse if they are not specifically outlined in your user manual.

  • Z77A-G43 B4 Error - Logitech USB Headset

    Hey guys,
I've isolated the B4 error I'm receiving on boot to having my Logitech USB headset plugged in.
Also plugged in via USB are a Logitech G15 Keyboard, a Razer naga mouse, and a WD 2TB USB hard drive, but without the headset, I don't get the error.
Any thoughts on how to correct this?  In the bios it shows up as 2 keyboards, so I'm wondering if the 2 logitech devices are a problem.
    Thanks in advance.

What bios version do you have installed?

  • Logitech USB headset not detected

When I run lsusb | grep Headset, it shows that the usb headset is plugged in(grep audio did not work).
    Sample output:
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 046d:0a0c Logitech, Inc. Clear Chat Comfort USB Headset
But here's the problem, when I execute aplay -l, it gives me no sound cards found, though I even have a intel intergrated audio sound card.
I have gnome installed, so it uses pulseaudio, so I can't use alsamixer, but is I go into sound settings, it only says dummy output.
    Other things to note:
    - Do not have gnome-extra installed
    - Have extra gst media codects
    Thanks in advance,

  • B500 USB ports non-functional

The USB ports on my 18 month old, out of warrenty, Ideacentre B500-57115233 no longer function.  Computer was powered on and hibernating, but would not awaken using wireless (USB, not bluetooth) keyboard and mouse.  Technician at computer repair shop said all ports were dead, could not be repaired, and computer motherboard had to be replaced.  Only way to access system is with a PS2 keyboard (which I do not have).  Have accessed files remotely through network so system otherwise operates normally.
Any ideas about how to repair USB ports?  If motherboard needs to be replaced, where do I get one?

code 31 is that the device is not working properly because Windows could not load the drivers required. A fix for that is to update your driver. You could read more about it at the link I posted below, there are also troubleshooting tips as well.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123
    Open Device Manager
    In the device's Properties dialog
    box, click the Driver tab,
and then click Update Driver to
    start the Hardware Update Wizard.
Follow the instructions to update the driver.
Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have
the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. However, sometimes, it will open the New Hardware Wizard which may ask for the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver
    from the hardware vendor's website.

  • Enabling USB Headset

I am using ALSA and have setup the sound for my system (using the Arch ALSA page).
Everything works when I plug my headphones into the Jacks.
I am no trying to enable my Logitech USB headset.
The usb_audio drivers are loaded and I have set the headset as the default device using both asoundconf and by putting this in my .asoundrc (from official ALSA guide):
    defaults.ctl.card 1
    defaults.pcm.card 1
    defaults.timer.card 1
Both approaches result in nothing comes out of my headset. The volume is non-muted in alsamixer (for both my sound card and the usb headset).

    Edit:
I've messed around a little with asoundconf and I can get sound coming from my USB headset when I use 'aplay'. However, when I use mplayer the sound still comes out of the jack and not the USB headphone. Does asoundconf not set system wide defaults? If not, how can I set the system wide default for this machine?
    Edit Again:
The -ao alsa option to mplayer did the trick.. e.g
    $ mplayer -ao alsa /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Side_Left.wav
    Edit Once More:
Sound only comes through the left channel. Oh no.
/em goes off to read .asoundrc documentation

Seems related, but I don't know where to find the options mentioned in alsamixer.

Yes, I tried Side_Right and it still comes out of the left channel. Flash and mplayer both still have this problem. As far as I can tell it effects every program using sound on the system.
Still not found a solution, don't really want to go down the OSS or Pulse route.

  • Pulseaudio + USB headset: mic works, headphones don't

I have a Logitech USB headset that I've gotten to work under other distros, but not yet with Arch. I'm running ALSA + Pulseaudio, with my /etc/asound.conf sending ALSA events to Pulseaudio. This works fine for everything I've used, with the exception of my headset. The mic works, but I can't get get any sound through the headphones, it just always goes to the default sound card. When I run pavucontrol I can see my headset listed as an input device, but not an output device.
Any ideas? Been searching, but haven't found anything yet.

My headset is /dev/dsp1, just FYI

  • Plugged in USB headset and screen went blank

Last night I was playing Far Cry and the wife complained about the noise. So I plugged in a Logitech USB headset, and, ping! -- out goes the monitor.
All four LEDs on the MSI diagnostic bracket turned red. I unplugged the headset and rebooted--everything was fine. Any ideas?
    Notes:
-I plugged headset into USB port on front of case, which is connected to one of the two internal 10-pin mobo ports (JUSB1 or JUSB2 I think).
-I have a 7-in-1 card reader plugged into the other 10-pin USB internal port.
    Thanks,
    RE

Thanks will try that. Also try using the other JUSB headed.
Funny-- the headset works fine when plugged into the USB port on the memory card reader...

  • USB Headset keeps frying on my T410

Hey all, So I've tried 3 different Logitech USB headsets and all 3 have been fried by my T410 ThinkPad. When I plug them in, they'll work beautifully when I have them plugged in for the first time, but when I try again, I'll start hearing weird buzzing, popping, clicking noises in the headset then poof, they no longer work and are rendered useless. This has happened 3 times now and I think my IT folks are upset with me! Is this a known issue? The Logitech headset is pretty standard/basic headset/mic combo fare. Super annoying. I want to order my own headset and not bug IT anymore but I'm afraid whatever headset I order will meet the same fate. Help!

Have you tried deactivating the "VOIP" button in Control Panel - "Smart Audio"? I needed to make that and it works well on T410 with Intel Graphics and Logitech 960 USB headset. (But the analog headsets still all worki very poor)
Also uncheck all other "audio enhancement" buttons in "Smart Audio" or "Sound" icons.

  • USB Headset Woes

    Greetings!
I have a Logitec USB Headset and I am having problems with programs seemingly wanting to continue outputting to the USB headset even after it's unplugged. Here's a typical synario:
I wanted to do some voice recording of a book, I plugin my headset, change the Audio/MIDI preferences in Garage Band to indicate my Input and Output device is the "Logitec USB Headset". This works great, records great, plays back. I then call my wife in to hear my latest creation, and go back to the preferences and select "Built-in audio" for the output. Garage band asks, "Change audio driver?" Yes, I choose. A few seconds later, the Output device is set to, "Logitec USB Headset" and there is no longer any choice what-so-ever for an input device. I can again choose "Built-in Audio" for the output device, it goes through the same sequence, only to arrive at the same result.
It get's weirder as well. I say, OK, I'll fix it, I unplug my USB headset. Still same problem. I then restart Garage Band and now the preferences dialog will not even open! Ok. So now, I remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garage* and also ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand thinking it might have saved settings. Still, no go.
Now, the reason I am not posting in the Garage Band forum is because this has happened in other applications as well, mainly, QuickTime. I wanted to watch a movie late at night and plugged in my headset, set the system preferences output audio device to "Logitech USB Headset" and watched a movie in QuickTime. Now, from that day on (2 weeks), QuickTime, no matter what, no matter how many restarts, removing of configs, etc... will not play to anything but my headset. If my headset is not plugged in, I simply get no audio. Other apps, such as Adium playing system beeps, speaking voice, etc... work just fine through the built in speaker. So far, the two affected programs are QuickTime and GarageBand. I have not been willing to see if it happens with iMovie and iDVD yet, in fear the same thing will happen.
    Anyone have an idea?

This is a brand new install of Mac OS X also. I wanted the experience of installing Mac OS X, so I backed up my important data, formatted the drive, installed, no other apps what so ever, and this happens. Oh, I did do the software updates and am on all the latest software packages as of the first time they were ever run. My install procedure was, install Mac OS X, Update, Install iLife, Update. A quick check today shows everything is up to date as well.
    Thanks!
    Jeremy

I have purchased a firewire drive and reinstalled Mac OS X on it, and still have the same problem. I did not migrate any previous settings, and right after install, I did a system update, then right into one of the programs mentioned. The problem occured with both QuickTime and GarageBand.

  • 50 Hz hum recording from USB headset (UK)

I have a new 2011 MacMini, with nothing plugged into the microphone input. I am using a Logitech USB Headset for both input and output, which seems to work fine.
However, when I try to record through a number of applications, including QuickTime Player 7, I get a nice clean low-level 50Hz (UK power) hum.
Why, if recording through a USB Headset, should I ever encounter 50Hz (60Hz) power hum?
How do I get rid of it?
Note: I see the MacMini does *not* have a grounded power input, only a 2-prong power connector...
    *urgent*
    Thanks!
btw- I have read that DVI connectors or similar can inject hum... But (a) this is a USB audio input and (b) I have tried unplugging my second and first monitors alternately, and hooking them to HDMI and Thunderbolt outputs --- No Change in hum.

    HOLY COW!
    Don't buy Logitech!
I plugged a cheap webcam into the same USB port; works prefectly, no hum at all.
The Logitech microphone element or USB parts must be picking up 50Hz hum through the air (radio waves). Yuck!
If I press the "mute mic" button on the headset cable, the hum goes away... Of course, so does the audio...
