Logs in Indesign Server

Hi Experts,
We are running multiple instances of Indesign server service. But for all the instances Logs are coming into single file. Is it possible to separe the logs for each instance of server.
It will be great help for analysing each server request. If possible please let us know.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
sameer

You can specify the file names in the launchd.plist.

  • InDesign Server 5.5 Missing Links

    I'm getting missing link errors in the log when InDesign Server opens files. The missing links reported are for xml files and snippets. Opening the document and looking in the links pallette shows no missing links. I tried using AppleScript to see if I could access these links but they are not there. I can find the links if I open the document in a text editor so I know they are actually there but I cannot seem to find a way to get rid of them. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
    Has any one else seen this problem?
    Is there some way to "clean" the file? ( I already tried doing a save as on the files. )

    I encounter the same problem with InDesign Server CS6: I get warning messages about missing snippets. This does not prevent to generate PDF's successfully (with madeToPrint server), but I would like to understand…
    Any idea?

  • InDesign Server CS6 (MacOS) - JavaScripting & Troubleshooting "Bus error" or "Segmentation fault"

    I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.
    The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.
    Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.
    I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

    Re: verbose mode. These are not InDesign error messages. They are system errors, saying that an app (InDesign?) crashed, went away, hence could not issue any kind of message. Crash logs are the place to start. If they don't help, and the crash is outside your code, after that it's over to the maintainer (Adobe?)
    Worth sharing a suitable crash log, as the list of routines active at the crash can narrow down issues.

  • CS4 InDesign Server hangs

    I've ran into a problem where the my CS4 InDesign Server hangs.
    I'm adding pages dynamically using the JAVA API.  Basically I go through all the content, check to see if I've reached the ParagraphStyle that indicates the "end" of the document.  If not, I add a page, flow the content into a text frame on that page & check if I've reached the end.  If not I add another page.  And so on until I finally reach the end. But it ends up hanging while attempting to do this.  What's odd, it works the first 5-10 times, but it takes longer and longer each time it adds a page until around the 10th page or so, it completely stops.  I'm using the "duplicate(OptLocationOptionsEnum arg0, OptVariableType arg1)" method on the com.adobe.ids.layout.Page object.
    Any ideas?  I can provide sample code if it would help.

    Hi Chandi,
          If Microsoft fix is not working or it is too old to apply then go for manual process i.e.;
          In the Microsoft KB article follow this :-
         Services that use the local system account to log on to a Windows Server 2003-based computer start if the Allow service to interact with desktop
         option is turned on. To turn this option on, follow these steps:
    In the Services tool, click the service that you want to start, and then click Properties.
    Right-click the Log On tab, and then click to select the Allow service to interact with desktop check box.
    Click OK to exit the Properties dialog box.

    I have successfuly configured the service with InDesignServerService.msc, set the port to 18555. InDesignServerWinService the Log On option is set to "This Account". Also tried using different accounts!
    When starting the indesign service from windows Service control panel I get this error:
    Could not start the InDesignServerService x64 service on Local Computer.
    Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
    Error log from windows Event viewer:

    Indesign server application works if launching from command line with the specified port 18555.
    If trying to lauch IndesignServerService.exe from command line, there is a delay and finally nothing happens.
    I have also tried launching 32bit indesign server service and the same error comes.
    Would be grateful for your thoughts!

  • InDesign Server CC

    We are looking at developing a Windows Service application using the InDesign SDK.  With the current version of InDesign CC, we cannot do this because the application must be running in UI mode after a user has logged into Windows.  InDesign Server would meet our requirements (user does not need to log in to Windows to run the application), but it is only available in CS6.  From what we understand, we cannot mix InDesign CC and InDesign Server CS6 as the INDD file saved with CC cannot be opened with CS6.  Is there going to be a CC version of InDesign Server?
    We will also be looking at creating another Windows Service application that interacts with PhotoShop.  Do you know if PhotoShop has the same restrictions as InDesign in terms of needing to log on to Windows to use the application through the SDK?
    Thanks,

  • Install failing on Server and Shared Components: Indesign Server CS3

    Two identical servers, same result on both servers. Windows 2003 x86 servers, up to date w/MS patches. .Net 3.5 sp1 installed. Run InDesign Server CS3 install, install takes a LONG time and then fails with the error below:
    I've looked for some sort of install log and there isn't one. I've called Adobe and was told that ID Server tickets are escalated to Tier 2 support and therefore new tickets can't be opened via the phone support (that piece would have been more helpful prior to spending 60 minutes on hold waiting for a person) and they referred me to the online ticket system. The online ticketing system reports that initial contact will be made "within three business days". I'm on a customer deadline with this install and can't wait three days for resolution. Any ideas where to look for more information on the cause of the failures?
    Thanks!
    Shannon

    I don't have any sort of definitive answer for you, but this was a fairly common place for the standalone to fail, too, if I recall correctly.
    I have no experience with the server version, but for a standalone I would recommend an uninstall, followed by running the clean script (Using the new CS3Clean Script) then register jscript.dll on the system and reboot with a bare minimum of startups enabled. TONS of stuff you would think is innocuous would conflict with the CS3 installer.

  • InDesign Server CC2014 Trial issue

    Hi,
    I cannot start our InDesign Server CC 2014 (Windows Server 2008). I have installed the software and was logged with our Adobe ID and installation was successful without any error message. The installation manual states that “InDesign CC Server needs to be activated before it can be used. If the computer is online, activation is done automatically when you install.” However, I got an error message when I tried to launch InDesign Server: “Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit”.
    Since  I had previously installed InDesign Server CS6 on another machine, I tried to use the APTEE to start the trial. I used the CS6 one because I did not find any version for CC 2014, I finally got the message:
    StartTrial Successful
    Return Code = 0
    but when I tried to launch again InDesign Server, I always get the Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit message.
    I also read this thread but did not find the solution Indesign Server CC Trial issues
    Thanks for help!

    We got the answer hereReturn code 6 when trying to activate trial of InDesignCC Server 2014

  • Connect Extends Script Toolkit with InDesign Server

    Hi folks,
    I'm trying to connect my Extends Script Toolkit installed with the InDesign Server CS4 on a XServe Mac with a running InDesign Server thread. This won't work, see screenshots. Any hints on this topic? Are their any log files written by the Extends Script to solve the problem?
    Cheers Tino

    Hi Sheldon,
    With CS4, InDesign Server no longer supports opening PageMaker files. This info is included in the Release Notes. InDesign CS4 will still open them so you could pursue a solution there.

  • Configure Indesign server WS to run in SSL mode

    How does one configure Indesign server (CS6) WS to run in SSL mode?  If not in CS6, how about CC 2014?
    thanks
    Cris

    1. Notification Mailer supports SSL Inbound and Outbound connection from ATG PF.H RUP 3 onwards only. Since you already see the SSL Enabled checkbox from Workflow Manager, I assume you are on ATF PF.H RUP 3 patchset. Confirm!!
    2. For SSL based connections, Concurrent Tier should be configured to support SSL. AF_LD_LIBRARY_PATH should point to $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/lib. The change has to be made in $APPL_TOP/admin/adovars.env (Typically in autoconfig XML file and autconfig run to generate adovars.env file if Autoconfig is enabled)
    Is there any exception seen in the mailer log file?
    Thanks

  • Docs about "Debug settings.xml" for Indesign Server

    Hi,
    In the "Indesign Server Debug" CS5.5 I found a file "Debug Settings.xml" (also in the desktop version). I suppose this is about enabling/disabling certain loggings. Default, all features are disabled. I tried to enable some of the features but I can't see any difference in the logging.
    So, I have 3 questions:
    - Is this somewhere documented on what this settings do? What can I expect if I enable a certain feature?
    - In the desktop debug version there is a menu "Test" with many diagnostic and other tests. Can these somehow being performed in IndesignServer debug? Is this documented somewhere?
    - I followed the steps described in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/883151 to obtain a "Leaks.txt" file. The approach described in that thread works in the desktopversion of Indesign but not for IndesignServer. Any ideas how I can obtain this for IndesignServer?
    Thanks in advance for any input.
    Bart Devos.

    The only strategy that I can think of involves a lot of pain.
    First you should remove all but the plugin that you're working on. The point of this is to check there might be some other plugin that is leaking. No point trying to fix a problem when it's not in your code.
    Once you verify that nothing is leaking without your plugin, use Dolly to create a simple plugin and add it. Check this for leaks. This is to create a base system that we can be confident doesn't leak.
    Now comes the painful stuff. Slowly add a piece of your code at a time being sure to test your changes.(That's important, don't just add code but test it throughly to see if you trigger leaks.)
    When leaks appear, go through what you just added and start commenting things out. Hopefully you'll get to a line that you can comment and uncomment to make the leak appear and dissappear.
    But be careful. Sometimes the leak isn't in the line that you find, but at least you're probably in the ballpark. This should help narrow your focus to where you need to look.
    Once you fix that leak kept slowly adding the rest of the code, testing as you go. Who knows, maybe there's more than one leak.
    It's not the prettiest approach but I find that it works.

  • Basic questions on InDesign server

    Hi All,
    I'm studying InDesign server and have some basic doubts which are given below:
    (1) I've already developed using JS/VB.net, can I directly use those tools directly in InDesign server without modifying anything?
    (2) How to practice with InDesign server, since I didn't find any trial version of InDesign server?
    (3) Since InDesign server not having any UI, how we an run, any basic ideas?
    Thanks,
    Praveen

    1. That depends on what you have developed... User interface elements are no good in server code, for example.
    2. I guess the best way would be to become an Adobe partner http://partners.adobe.com/.
    But: there is a trial version if InDesign Server: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=indesign_server
    3. InDesign server and desktop are essentially the same. Primarily I would suggest developing on the desktop version.
    Logging to file, and starting InDesign Server with a console open are two ways of debugging on the server.
    Message was edited by: Andreas Jansson. Adding info since I just noticed that there is a trial version of InDesign Server.

  • Use AD with InDesign Server

    Hi,
    we use adobe bridge CS5 with adobe drive 2.1 and version cue CS4 - everything works fine!
    now we try to connect our InDesign Server CS4 and CS5 with VC CS4 through AD 2.1, means
    our IDS should generate pagepics or pdfs from InDesign documents.
    Everything works fine while the IDS and ID use a normal UNC path for a picture link.
    but now, if the picture is placed in indesign and it is linked to version cue (through drive)
    the ids could "see" the link, but can't use it to generate the pagepic or the pdf.
    the server does not sent a reasonable error or warning, it just generates the pagepics by using the picture
    thumbnail. for example: if we placed an illustrator .ai file in the Indesign document the
    server will only show a grey area in the pagepic instead of the right .ai file.
    if the server tries to generate the pdf, it stops with error announcement: "error while generating the pdf file"
    the IDS works on a windows 2008 R2 server. VC CS4 is also hosted on the same server.
    we tried to solve the problem by hosting version cue on a mac or an other windows machine,
    but the problem is still the same. we know that IDS is not listed in the system requirement list
    of Adobe Drive but maybe there could be a solution to use it anyway?!
    thx for all helpful answers!
    greetings
    stineson

    Stineson-
    Hi I was wondering if you ever overcame this the issue with bad IDS link to an Adobe Drive volume. I'm trying to do the samething for a different purpose. When I place a piece of art on an InDesign page from Adobe Drive the HFS path looks normal.
    When I see IDS process the same file, with the same availability to the art. I get the following logging in IDS:
    03/31/15 17:13:25 ERROR [link manager] Link missing.; adobevc:/Volumes/OTMM/Public%20Folders/MEI%20TEST/P48_002.jpg?NjQxMjlhMGYtOTMyMS00Yjg2LTg5YWItYTZkYjVkNTlhZjdiAAAvUHVibGljIEZvbGRlcnMvTUVJIFRFU1QvUDQ4XzAwMi5qcGcqYzZhNmJhZGI1YThjYzhiNDYyOWM1ZjY3YWJmNGQyOWIwZjVmZjMyYQAvUHVibGljIEZvbGRlcnMqQVJURVNJQS5QVUJMSUMuVFJFRU4AL1B1YmxpYyBGb2xkZXJzL01FSSBURVNUL1A0OF8wMDIuanBn

  • How to write to windows event logs from determinations-server under IIS

    This is just an FYI technical bit of information I wish someone had shared with me before I started trying to write OPA errors to the windows event log... Most problems writing to the windows event log from log4net occur because of permissions. Some problems are because determinations-server does not have permissions to create some registry entries. Some problems cannot be resolved unless specific registry entry permissions are actually changed. We had very little consistency with the needed changes across our servers, but some combination of the following would always get the logging to the windows event log working.
    To see log4net errors as log4net attempts to utilize the windows event log, temporarily add the following to the web.config:
    <appSettings>
    <!-- uncomment the following line to send diagnostic messages about the log configuration file to the debug trace.
    Debug trace can be seen when attached to IIS in a debugger, or it can be redirected to a file, see
    http://logging.apache.org/log4net/release/faq.html in the section "How do I enable log4net internal debugging?" -->
    <add key="log4net.Internal.Debug" value="true"/>
    </appSettings>
    <system.diagnostics>
    <trace autoflush="true">
    <listeners>
    <add
    name="textWriterTraceListener"
    type="System.Diagnostics.TextWriterTraceListener"
    initializeData="logs/InfoDSLog.txt" />
    </listeners>
    </trace>
    </system.diagnostics>
    To add an appender for the windows event viewer, try the following in the log4net.xml:
    <appender name="EventLogAppender" type="log4net.Appender.EventLogAppender" >
    <param name="ApplicationName" value="OPA" />
    <param name="LogName" value="OPA" />
    <param name="Threshold" value="all" />
    <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout">
    <conversionPattern value="%date [%thread] %-5level %logger [%property{NDC}] - %message%newline" />
    </layout>
    <filter type="log4net.Filter.LevelRangeFilter">
    <levelMin value="WARN" />
    <levelMax value="FATAL" />
    </filter>
    </appender>
    <root>
    <level value="warn"/>
    <appender-ref ref="EventLogAppender"/>
    </root>
    To put the OPA logs under the Application Event Log group, try this:
    Create an event source under the Application event log in Registry Editor. To do this, follow these steps:
    1.     Click Start, and then click Run.
    2.     In the Open text box, type regedit.
    3.     Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application
    4.     Right-click the Application subkey, point to New, and then click Key.
    5.     Type OPA for the key name.
    6.     Close Registry Editor.
    To put the OPA logs under a custom OPA Event Log group (as in the demo appender above), try this:
    Create an event log in Registry Editor. To do this, follow these steps:
    1.     Click Start, and then click Run.
    2.     In the Open text box, type regedit.
    3.     Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
    4.     Right-click the eventlog subkey, point to New, and then click Key.
    5.     Type OPA for the key name.
    6.     Right-click the new OPA key and add a new DWORD called "MaxSize" and set it to "1400000" which is about 20 Meg in order to keep the log file from getting too large.
    7.     The next steps either help or sometimes cause an error, but you can try these next few steps... If you get an error about a source already existing, then you can delete the key.
    8.     Right-click the OPA subkey, point to New, and then click Key.
    9.     Type OPA for the key name.
    10.     Close Registry Editor.
    You might need to change permissions so OPA can write to the event log in Registry Editor.  If you get permission errors, try following these steps:
    1.     Click Start, and then click Run.
    2.     In the Open text box, type regedit.
    3.     Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog
    4.     Right-click the EventLog key, select Permissions.
    5.     In the dialog that pops up, click Add...
    6.     Click Advanced...
    7.     Click Locations... and select the current machine by name.
    8.     Click Find Now
    9.     Select both the Network user and IIS_IUSERS user and click OK and OK again. (We never did figure out which of those two users was the one that fixed our permission problem.)
    10.     Change the Network user to have Full Control

    To verify OPA Logging to the windows event logs from Determinations-Server:
    Go to the IIS determinations-server application within Server Manager.
    Under Manage Application -> Browse Application click the http link to pull up the local "Available Services" web page that show the wsdl endpoints.
    Select the /determinations-server/server/soap.asmx?wsdl link
    Go to the URL and remove the "?wsdl" from the end of the url and refresh. This will throw the following error into the logs:
    ERROR Oracle.Determinations.Server.DSServlet [(null)] - Invalid get request: /determinations-server/server/soap.asmx
    That error should show up in the windows event log, OR you can get a message explaining why security stopped you in "logs/InfoDSLog.txt" if you used the web.config settings from above.
