Lol, HDD led

now my CD reader is on primary master, the HDD light actually goes, heh
SATA still produces no light though
so for all of you wondering: my hdd led is not broken on the case

Suggestion: JFP1 connector for HDD Led is probably upside down. Leds are polarity sensitive so turn the leads around. The mobo manual is confusing on JFP1 & 2 isnt it?

  • My 790fx GD70 had approx 3 years of perfect operation, now the HDD led is red :(

Hey everyone I'm new to the msi forums here, but I built a gaming rig about 3 years ago and its been running fantastic ever since.
Ive been looking to buy an Radeon 7950 and finally decided on the HIS 7950 IceQ boost clock from newegg for 299.
So I opened up the case just to make 100% sure that I had the necessary 2- 6 pin power connectors, which I did . I did this while the pc was on (I know dont shoot me!) I didn't touch anything on board just a few wires from the psu to look at the connectors, an my hand slighty bushed the side intake fan, no stoppage or anything like that.
When I looked up after I put the couple wires back I had no display, no keyboard or mouse, and the red HDD led was lit above the mobo power button :( :(.
Ive checked all connections and they seems to be fine, my brother has the same board in his rig, so ill take a pic of his and double check mine just to be totally sure.
The pc powers up with either the case or mobo buttons, all fans (cpu, psu, case, gpu) power up and run normally. All lights are blue that I can see, except for the red HDD led, no display, keyboard, or mouse. Also I cant power the system down by holding down either case or mobo buttons, only by switching the psu off.
After reading up on this forum and a couple others ive come to a couple possible conclusions:
Either something came unplugged which ive some how missed, my mobo has shorted somehow after approx 3 years of perfect operation, or my psu has blown.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for me? Has anyone seen something like this happen before?
The tough thing is this pc is currently used for music recording through pro tools and was about to become the main media display pc at my church, after the purchase of the new video card, so having it down meant no music recording today at church :( :(
    System Specs:
    AMD phenom II x4 955
    MSI 790fx gd70
    Asus Radeon 5750
    Mushkin Redline 1600mhz 4x2
    Crucial SSD 120gb
    Seagate 150gb HDD
Western Digital 1tb HDD (pro tools session storage)
    LG CD/DVD RW
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give!
By the way I wrote all that on my phone! Lol

Thanks for all the help so far you guys!! Ok so i spent some more time on it and did what you both suggested. Reseated the ram, 2 sticks of 4 gb 1600 mushkin, made sure that all satas were seated properly on both the mobo and HDD sides, and checked all power connections to the board. After that i cleared cmos, and pulled the battery just to be sure.  I checked the case pwr and reset connections on the front of the case and at the mobo, and everything seems to match my brothers board connections (went and took a few pics of his). I also moved my gpu up to the top slot of the mobo so i could see the little led screen on the mobo better.
So i fired her back up, and the dang red light was still on :-(. Also the little led screen isnt post anything at all, no numbers or letters are showing. I believe my brothers read 42 when i was taking pics of his rig (must be the code for all-is-well lol).
My psu is an 850 watt Xion. For  + 12v1 and +12v2 its 18A for +12v3 and +12v4 it reads 20A and 22A respectively.
I dont see xions around much anymore, did they go out of business or something?
So do you guys think its probably the mobo since its not giving a display at the little led screen? Did it just happen to blow when i had the side panel off, could i have done something without touching the board to cause this? Maybe handling the wires? Could it possibly be the psu?
It looks like i may be in for an earlier mobo and cpu upgrade then i had originally planned :-P
Oh also my case is a full tower Azza, im not sure of the model, but its always had great cooling! (But i dont overclock lol)
    Thanks so much again!

  • The HDD LED doesn't work !! Any Idea ?

    Hi everyone ..
I have MSI Neo Platinum Mainboard , I installed a S-ATA Harddisk only on the Mainboard , no ATA , but the HDD LED on the Case doesn't work .. There is no Light ... Is this light only for ATA Harddisks wich are installed on IDE ??
    Any idea plz ?

Exactly...reverse the polarity at the connection....or your HDD activity LED is toast...I've bought new cases where those things just did not work.

  • Solutions for hard to see HDD LED

I was looking for some easier ways to see the hard drive activity since HP has moved the HDD LED to the left or right side of the newer laptops.  I really hate not being able to always see what the hard drive is doing since the change in placement of the HDD light.  Every laptop I've ever had or worked with has had the HDD LED on top of the base which is a whole lot easier to see than on the side.  I'm currently using a free program called DiskLED which puts a light in the system tray which can show a huge selection of items including the HDD but only one at a time.  It seems to be very accurate and can be configured to update as fast as you want.  I'm still looking for other options that would allow me to have a physical LED that would be viewable from above the keyboard like it was on my previous HP laptop.  If anyone know of an easy, cheap fix I would love to know what that is.  Thanks

There was a useful blend mode in MacOS 9 and Carbon called "AddOver" that could be used to get high contrast shapes over any background, in a reversible way (great for cursors, paths, etc.).  Even on Windows, we can emulate that blend mode.
In Cocoa, Apple doesn't offer that blend mode, nor a way to handle reversible compositing beyond what we are already doing (difference blend mode).
We have been investigating ways to do better path drawing using OpenGL shaders, but didn't have a solution in time for CS5 (it's not as easy as it sounds).

  • StoragEdge 3510 FC HDD LEDs are blinking continuously

    Hi,
I am facing problem with Sun StoragEdge 3510FC with 146x12 and 2 arrays of RAID -5.
Problem Descrp: After upgrading Firmware from 3.27r to 413c. the HDD LEDs are blinking continuously but this problem is started after upgrading the New Firmware.
Please let me know if anyone knows the solution.
    regards,
    vpatil.

Sounds like the 'media scan' functionality of the new firmware. You can check its running with show media scan from sccli. You can also abort it if you wish

  • MSI X58 Pro: HDD LED does not work for S-ATA drive

    Hi,
I've got a problem with my brand new MSI X58 Pro: I've got an S-ATA HDD (Samsung 640GB) and an S-ATA DVD drive (Pioneer) installed in a Compucase 6X Miditower. There is NO(!) IDE drive. I don't get the HDD LED to work! I've tried everything including a BIOS update to 7.1 - the LED stays out.
I found some reports in the internet from people having a similar problem: no HDD LED for S-ATA drive activity.
Is there anybody else having this problem? Isn't that possible in general? Is that a problem of the board? The HDD drive?
    Greetings,
    Michael

You are talking about the status LED on your case, right?
    - Is it properly connected to the right pins on the correct header?
    - Double-check for +/- pins and make sure the plug is not connected the wrong way.
    - Make sure, the LED is not defective.
    - Make sure the cables are not defective.
    - Make sure there is no problem with the pin-plug to the board.

  • HDD LED in RAID-0

Got my new motherboard all set up and roaring, but just one little nuisance is getting on my nerves.  The HDD LED connector works just fine when the HDD is in IDE1 or IDE2, but when I connected my HDD's to IDE3 and SER1 with a RAID-0 configuration, the HDD LED doesn't light up.  I reversed the HDD LED connector to see if that would work, but still no luck.  Any suggestions?

Well, this board is still badass.  With the Maxtor Maxblast software, I can format the HD's in NTFS even with the RAID-0 configuration in a matter of seconds.  The only thing that bothers me is that sometimes I'd like to see the HD's activity.  I'm a programmer by trade and I work with large files, so the LED is sometimes helpful.  I'm also an avid gamer which is the reason I chose this board.  Installed Unreal II and it works flawlessly.  Maybe there will be a BIOS update in the future that will address this issue, but if what you say is true and they never wired it in, maybe it'll never happen.

Flashing/blinking HDD LED is normal. What's the problem? It's alive, active, & well.

  • SATA HDD LED works OK.

Well I couldn't resist. I opened up case and took my trusty magnifying glass and looked real close at JFP1 pins 1,3.
Above the pins on mobo is silk screened ' -HDD+ ' . (the - is above pin 3 and the + is above pin 1. Pin 1 is decribed in manual as 'Hard disk LED pull-up' and pin 3 is 'Hard disk active LED'. I had connected the Antec HDD LED plug so that the red wire was on pin 3 and the black was on pin 1 (so you could read the 'HDD' on the plug).
So I just reversed the plug and the HDD LED works just fine. I guess I missed the - or + on the mobo. It sure is not obvious if you just read the manual.
    Best Regards

    Good job, Gary.
    My HDD LED DID light.
Just for curiosity and giggles, I reversed the plug, and no go.
Reversed to original and it works.
Gave me an opportunity for a little cable management too.

  • Hdd Led Always On!

The hdd led a time ago only blink when the HD is active...
But now the led is always on...
Is there something i can do?!

Does anyone know if the issue w/ the activity LED not working for SATA devices is a hardware issue (like w/ the ICH5), or a software issue (like w/ the BIOS)?
it is a hardware thingy with the ich5. i seem to remember this once before on this forum, danny's the man to varify this..
and trusso m8, i seem to remember my DVD drive used to cause my led light to pulsate, if i put it on as a 2ndry master. but this is only possible to do on certain mobo's.
i think we would all benefit from some machine spec's m8 so if you could post em (or create a sig) it would be both appreciated and beneficial.

  • HDD LED keeps glowing

I have T430s laptop and when i installed Lenovo pawer manager the HDD LED keeps glowing after that. If i uninstall Power manager it bacomes normal.
Note: I have installed latest version of Power manager.
    Help Please!!

    Welcome to the Lenovo Community!
Please clarify the boot delay time... is it seconds or minutes? I've installed non-IBM optical drives into the Ultrabay 2000 (mainly T23 systems) and have found that some drives cause a boot delay of around 20 seconds (blank screen after the IBM splash screen and before Windows starts loading). I have also seen some systems not boot Windows at all, but in my case I gave up after letting the system sit for only 1 or 2 minutes (not 10-15).
Not sure about any solution other than to replace the drive(s). I know that there are some registry edits you can do to make Windows recognize "missing" drives (use Google to search for "missing cd drive upper filters"), but I don't know if that would solve your problem.

  • HDD Led

I have new Mac Book Pro 15".
Where is the HDD Led??? And what is the front led near the opening cover??

    Ethan_0k,
There is no LED indicator for hard drive activity, if that is what you mean. The light at the front of the Macbook Pro is a "sleep" light. When you put your Macbook Pro to sleep, this light will pulse slowly (rather like it is breathing softly; that is the intent). When you start the Macbook Pro up, it will come on solid for a few seconds, indicating a successful POST operation (along with the startup chime).

  • HDD LED Light **PLEASE HELP***

I am not sure what I did wrong, but my left case light (I believe called the HDD LED) keep going on and off. I don't know if this is a healthy situation for the computer or not... Is this light suppose to be steady at all times? Why is it blinking every few seconds?
    Please help with your knowledge,
    Thanks in advanced!!!

Use the HDDs on the primary IDE channel. One Master One Slave. On the secondary channel mount the DVD as master and the CD rom as slave.
Yes if you have a window open for browsing and a MP3 playing in the background you are likely to have some HDD activity.
If you turn those off and still get activity then disconnect from the internet if you are on Dialup or remove the Ethernet cable if you are on High Speed connect. If the lED goes out after a while then it is likely that you are infected or have a serious spyware issue. It does not matter if you are on a clean install. If the modem was hooked up during your install it only takes four seconds to become found and infected these days on the internet if your firewall was not up or and you had a connection to the internet.
