LOL... iControl works with GarageBand 11

Yay... plugged in my M-Audio iControl and voila! I have to reacquaint myself with this unit but all seems to be fine, even all 31 bands in the AUGraphicEQ respond in 0.3 increments as you scroll through the bands in groups of 8 using the track/parameter buttons.
For those of you who do not know what an iControl is, its a discontinued MIDI controller made by M-Audio specifically for GB to control the user interface... things like volume, pan, transport controls, cycle on/off, arming tracks, turning effects on and off, controlling master volume and Jog type wheel to rapidly scroll back and forth through your project (not a true scrub wheel though). Google it if your interested... you might be able to pick one up 2nd hand for not very much $$$

Why did they cancel it?
I have never heard or read an official reason why. My guess was that it had something to do with sales vs manufacturing costs. Its a shame because with a couple of refinements it would be beautiful.
Is there another product on the market that does the same kind of thing?
Yes. The Korg NanoKontrol. Well, there was a post last week in this forum of someone who was using a 1st gen NK in GB 11. I have used it in GB09 just fine. You have one extra step on loading a free plugin from the Korg site to make it work. Other than that it does similar things. I prefer the iControl though as it is just bigger and feels a bit more substantial.

  • Does the M-audio iControl work with the newest version of Garageband (2013)

I'm looking for a dedicated controller for garageband. It seems that the m-audio icontrol was the only one ever made and was released in 2005. I've read it worked with all versions of GB up to '11. Would this 8 year old controller work with the newest version of garageband (newest version as of october 2013)? Or are there any new dedicated controllers that are an option.

Haven't checked all the options, but yes, M-Audio iControl works with Garageband 10.0.1 and with Logic Pro X (10.0.4).
I am astounded that a) they stopped making it b) no-one has stepped in to offer a similar (or better) hardware solution - especially as GB is now free.
If you can get one, grab it!

  • Will this work with garageband?

    Hi,
will this device work with garageband?
    http://www.behringer.com/PODCASTUDIO-FIREWIRE/index.cfm?lang=ENG
It has 4 inputs, so will there be four tracks in garageband or how does that work?
    Regards
    Johannes

    Hi Johannes
It will work, as it is MAC OS compatible.
The 4 inputs will show up in Garageband, according you open the same number of tracks and assign each of them to one input. You will most likely find the information on how to connect your audio interface to your computer (USB or FireWire), and then you read Garageband user Manual
Just my 2 cents, I wouldn't suggest Behringer. Their high-end product may be defendable, but the lower end like this podcast station aren't always good for the sound recording. Depending of your use of the product and how professional your work has to be, you might want to consider other setups. I say that because I used to own a Behringer Mixer and it sounded like crap, not to mention all the noise. But again, the best is to go to a music store and try different ones... You're the one who will use it.
    Have fun!

  • Does ANYBODY know how to get a Bluebird Mic to work with GarageBand?

I bought this really expensive Blue Bluebird condenser mic and I'd REALLY like to get it to work with GarageBand. I have a cable that converts from low impedance to high impedance, then some adapters to plug the cable into my iMic, which then connects via a USB port. I know that's a lot of connectors, but it's the only way I can think of to turn the Bluebird mic into a USB mic. Can anybody help me with this? PLEASE??

    that looks, uh, complicated.
none of it should be any more so than your current setup. if you went the interface route it would be Mic to interface interface to computer (USB or FireWire). if you went the analogue console route it would be the same, but into the iMic or Line-n on the computer
so I would need a female to male mic cable
standard mic cable, it's how they usually come.
Also, do you recommend the external Phantom Power supply, or a new interface?
that reaches more toward opinion, and also why i mentioned never using a separate power supply. you have to weigh cost vs quality (basically, what you expect from your final project).
if it's just for kicks, and your iMic's quality satisfies you, $20 for a power supply seems cost effective. if you're looking to reach the quality of recordings you hear on the radio, a better interface would be the right choice now since you'd wind up there eventually.
the in-between is the analogue console. having a mixer between the mic and the iMic definitely gives you more control since you can boost or attenuate the signal going to the iMic.
so the 3 choices you have would be: Power Supply-least quality, least control. Analogue Console-same quality, much more control. more expensive interface-possibly the best quality recording as well as good control.
since you picked a very good mic, i'd suggest looking toward a good interface like the FireBox (great Mic PREs for the expensive mic)
    hope that helps

  • Which keyboards work with garageband?????

I know there are special midi keyboards, but i want to get yamaha or casio that i can play when not hooked up as well. Do any of the casio or yamaha keyboards work with garageband... without having to buy additional hardware.

Yes, many! I have a Yamaha PSR-K1 that I have hooked up to my iMac, and speakers, and it will play thru either, including Garage Band of course. Some Yamahas can also play thru their own speakers. eg no hookup to anything else required, but you would best go to a Yamaha site, and post the question under CUSTOMER SERVICE to find the model. . I would think a good Yamaha dealer would also know the models??

  • Bluetooth dosen't work with GarageBand

When I connect my bluetooth headset to my mac and read an MP3 file with iTune it works but when I click play in garageband the sound is choppy?
    Why?
    Thx,

    Sorry for double post,
I try with an other bluetooth device, and it works with this.
    I don't know why.
On my SPK1200 it works, it's a speaker.
    On my SHB9100 it doesn't work, it's a headset.
    Both are connected on bluetooth.

    Yes.

I believe they will. One benefit of those keyboards is that they are also independent. You can turn them on and play without connecting them to the computer.
A keyboard controller, on the other hand, has no sounds of its own, and so is solely designed to work with a computer (i.e. an application like Garageband). Examples of keyboard controllers are:
    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?ID=USBkeyboardcontrollers&do=products.family
A friend of mine actually had one of those Yamahas, didn't use it much, then moved on to one of the keyboard controllers in the link.
Stepping back a bit, it's hard for anyone to evaluate what's best for your daughter without knowing the circumstances, from her interest to your resources.
If someone gave me either one of those keyboards at age 12, I'd have a lot of fun with it for maybe... 10 minutes. The physical keyboards on those models are flimsy and not very satisfying to play. They feel and sound like toys to me - they're not all that substantial. However, I was pretty interested in music growing up, so having an instrument I could sink my teeth into mattered.
On the other hand, those Yamahas are more than enough for many adults, let alone kids. So maybe it's a good "starter" keyboard.

  • IRig not working with Garageband

I have a new iPad 4 with a new iRig from Sweetwater...everything is current. Amplitube works fine on the pad and the phone, but can't get a guitar signal on either with Garageband. Yes, the monitor is on.

Gotta turn off automatic level. Now that's intuitive. <shakes head>

  • Tascam US-600 isn't working, works with GarageBand.

Anybody else use the Tascam US-600 input and have issues in MainStage? I use it with GarageBand and have zero problems, but I get nothing in MainStage. In MainStage's preferences it acknowledges that it's there and I can select it as an input, but I get no sound at all. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have the same problem, and Mainstage works with MIDI instruments directly connected via USB.

  • Do IK multimedia products work with Garageband 10 yet?

I've still been unable to use amplitube 3 with garageband 10, I've looked endlessly through forums on IK and their twitter feed but I've heard nothing on a fix for this issue. Has anybody found a fix or alteast heard of a time frame for an update (either amplitube or garageband)

Well I guess I need to answer my own question - do I get points for that?
For $60 I decided to take a chance on the Korg NanoKONTROL2 and I just received it from Amazon. Downloaded/installed the KORG MIDI driver, then the GarageBand plug-in. Everything seems to work as it should with no messing around.
It is somewhat limited, but gives full transport control and volume/pan for 8 tracks along with buttons for Solo, Mute and Record on each track. The pan knobs feel a little wobbly, but not too bad. All things considered, it looks and feels like a decent piece of hardware considering the low cost.
Maybe this will help someone else who is getting tired of using the mouse and keyboard shortcuts to control basic Garageband functions.

    Hi Stephen21,
If they don't provide an update for your interface, it looks like there will be no way to have it work..
+Speedio support will not be offered for the new Intel Macs. However, Novation will continue to support Speedio on all other currently supported platforms. For the latest drivers and documentation, please visit the downloads area on our website:+

  • Im loosing my sound while working with garageband, have to restart.

I has come to my attention that I am loosing sound on my mac while working on garageband.  Everytime this happens i need to restart my machine in order to recover my sounds.  Does any one has experienced this bug, and how did you deal with it.  Thank you.

As you're rebooting the computer anyway, I would reset the PRAM and SMC and see if it makes things better:
    - Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    - Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that doesn't help, I think I'd buy a budget USB sound card and try that instead - in any case it will sound better than the internal speakers of your MacBook.
