Lollipop draining battery on Note 3

The new update is draining the battery on my Note 3. I used to be able to go all day doing everything on my phone including watching a few shows on Netflix without charging my phone until bedtime but every since the new update I have had to charge my phone at least 3 times a day. Is this issue being looked at?

I'm having the same issue after updating to Lollipop. My Note 3 is constantly downloading and uploading data.. it never stops, which I believe is causing the battery drain. I booted up in Safe Mode to rule out if there was a third-party apps going rogue. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to be the issue.  I even tried a factory reset, which didn't work as well. I'm at a loss...

  • IBooks drains battery when not connected to Wifi

Since the release of Yosemite, there is a bug in iBooks that causes it to drain the battery on my MacBook Pro.  Here are the repro steps:
    1. Turn Wifi off.
    2. Launch iBooks
    3. Wait a few seconds.
Observed behavior:  The laptop gets really hot and the projected battery life remaining goes way down.
Looking at Activity monitor, there is a process called storeaccountd that has pegged the CPU at about 100% and it stays there as long as iBooks is open.  If I connect Wifi or quit iBooks, the problem goes away.  I discovered this when I tried to read a book in iBooks while on an 8 hour flight.  iBooks was pretty much useless because I didn't have a Wifi connection.
There's another thread in the Yosemite section where others have also confirmed the problem:
iBooks runs "storeaccountd" process that runs CPU at 100% and drain battery

Same problem here in Vienna. I can count down the battery percentage on my MBA11 mid2013, while ibook tries to connect somewhere.
I tried it with updates, but this annoying behavior still continues.
Really disappointed by apple, I will swap to another program to read my books.
I tried also following steps from another forum post, and this helped until now:
reset PRAM by real restarting the mac and pressing option+cmd+"p"+"r" twice
--this brings some settings to factory - don't wipe your hardest here! just restart again.
delete plist in your terminal (launchpad/others/terminal) by following two inputs:
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    killall Dock
I can not find the original post now, but I thank here for the person, who gave this temporary solution.

iPod touch not responding and has white screen. Tried to restore, drain battery and re-charge etc but still nothing. What can I do?

Try what you have not tried so far. You may have tried all and the Apple store maybe in order.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Want to know how Apple will get 20 hours out of their 60GB iPods batteries ?
They'll fill it with music and fully charge it (of course), then get it to play continuously (probably on random/shuffle or something similar) until the battery dies. They'll have the screen off all that time and they simply won't touch it, in an attempt to get the longest time they can.
    ie. it won't simulate real-life use !
Few other things worth mentioning :
    - Battery life whilst playing videos is only 3 hours total, so playing any videos at all is going to make quite a difference
    - The battery life indicator is only a rough guide - it's not accurate
    - Don't get too obsessed with 'calibrating' the battery. Accoring to Apple, this isn't necessary because ""lithium-ion batteries, such as those used in iPod, have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries."

  • Does notification drain battery even when not connected to wifi?

i figured just to have it on and turn my wifi off. does it drain battery if i leave it on?

well if not going over WiFi it would use GPRS/EDGE or 3G and that would drain battery instead.

  • Battery life seems short or the battery does not hold a charge, seems to drain quickly or does not last as long as expected.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

IMPORTANT Notes while charging your Reader device:
It is recommended to charge the Reader using the supplied AC Adapter. When using the AC adapter to charge your Reader device, the lightning bolt symbol that appears next to the battery icon [FIG. 1] on the display of your Reader device is an indication that it is connected to AC power and is charging the battery properly. If the lightning bolt symbol is not present, double check the AC Adapter to ensure that your Reader device is properly connected. This symbol does not appear while charging via a USB connection.
If you charge via a USB connection and leave your Reader Digital Book connected to the computer to charge and the computer goes into sleep/hibernation, charging will stop and the red charge indicator on the Reader will turn off. If left connected, your battery may begin to discharge. To avoid this, turn off any sleep/hibernation settings while charging or set your sleep or hibernation settings to come on after your Reader Digital Book has been charged and then disconnect it from the computer once charging has completed.
It will take approximately 4 hours to achieve a full charge with a computer. It will take approximately 2 hours to achieve a full charge with the optional AC Adapter.
If your Reader Digital Book is left connected to a powered USB hub while the computer is shut down, your battery may begin to discharge. Disconnect your Reader from the hub when the computer is not powered on.
Always verify that your Reader is fully charged by disconnecting it from the computer and checking the battery indicator. The battery indicator will display 4 black bars when it is fully charged
On a full charge, the battery has the capability of up to 7,500 continuous page turns. Actual battery life will vary based on usage patterns, settings and battery conditions. When the Reader is turned on, off, or a page is marked, battery power is used, thus lowering the expected battery life.
NOTE: When storing the Reader for a long period of time, use the Device Shutdown feature in the Advanced settings menu. After using Device Shutdown, it may take approximately 30 seconds for the Reader to start the next time the Reader is turned on.
Playing audio will reduce the battery life. If you did not start audio play back intentionally, confirm audio is not playing. You will not hear playback unless headphones are connected. Audio playback will continue until it is stopped by turning it off from the Now Playing menu. To see if audio is playing, press the HOME button and then press the OPTION button. If Now Playing is displayed in the dialogue box that appears, tap Now Playing and this will take you to the song that is playing. Press the Pause button to stop playback of that song and then press the HOME button.
    NOTES:
Due to the nature of the E Ink electronic display technology, the LCD can retain an image without having power. Turning the page is the only time power is consumed. If the Reader's power is drained, the LCD will retain the last image that was displayed, thus making it appear like the Reader is frozen and in some instances it will not have enough power to perform other operations such as turning on or off.
Battery life can be affected by operating temperatures below 41 degrees F, lack of use, or if the battery has not been given enough time to fully charge.
As with any battery, if the Reader is stored for an extended period of time, the battery will discharge on it's own. Therefore, it may be necessary to charge the battery prior to use.
If the Reader has not been used for an extended period of time, repeatedly charging and discharging will improve the efficiency of the battery.
If the battery life still seems short, the battery may need to be replaced.

Updating IOS 8.02 on 4s,when service provider is changed or not available, phone goes to search mode & its drain battery very fast,it does not stop even in charging mode,it goes to zero.(Even in switch off mode) only get charged in Airplane mode.why?(with different Sim cards)

Because GPS has nothing to do with WiFi, cellular signals, or data of any sort. GPS is implemented by signals sent by satellites that are received by GPS receivers. The receivers process the information from the GPS satellites and calculate your location. GPS never sends data anywhere; GPS functionality is receive only.
If you have WiFi or cellular data turned on this can improve the accuracy of GPS, because the GPS receiver can then use the known location of cell towers and WiFi networks to refine the GPS location. GPS by itself has an accuracy of 10 meters, or about 34 feet. Using the additional information from WiFi and cellular data this can be brought down to 3 meters (10 feet). This mode is called Augmented GPS, or A-GPS.

  • Heating Up & Draining battery fast on iPhone 5s after iOS 7.1 update

    Hi,
I updated my iPhone 5s 64GB to iOS 7.1 & it's heating up and draining battery so fast not to mention when I charge it , it takes longer time to charge!
I didn't have this issue before on the previous version. I tried restoring my iPhone two times & also rebooting my iPhone five times, but nothing works!
I've looked in other complaints and some of them suggested to switch off background app refresh and locations!
I didn't have this issue before and I won't turn them off because if the problem because of it then I should experience the same problem on the previous version and why would I turn it off? So what's the purpose of the phone?
My wife, my sister, my brother & my mom they got an iPhone 5 and they don't experience this problem except me!
My iPad Air and my wife iPad Mini 2( Retina Display) and there is no problem with the iOS 7.1 .
I've looked in other websites and found that there are other people experiencing the same problem. Apple should fix this problem ASAP!
Is there anyone experiencing the same problem and what did he/she do to fix it incase he/she fixed it !

I don't have any issues with my 5S on 7.1
Have you actually taken your phone to the Apple store and have them look at it?
Even if you don't want to turn off background app refresh,  you should turn it off and see what the results are.
also you said you restored twice, did you restore as NEW?

  • Yoga 2 Pro Draining Battery Fast in Sleep Mode

I have a new Yoga 2 Pro with i7 processor. It works great and normal battery life is about 4-5 hours. But with a fully charged battery, i can close the lid at night triggering sleep mode, and wake up to an almost dead battery.
Why is this happening? It's really dissapointing and I'm going to return it if I can't find a fix. I'm on the latest BIOS with all current updates. I am not using Hibernate mode.
Closing the lid shoud not cause battery to continue to drain at normal usage rates.
I'm hoping it's the WINDOWS 8 software but I've tried all the settings I can find.

the OP said battery was draining overnight because y2p was not going into sleep mode. then op changed some settings and, as i understand it, now his y2p does not drain battery overnight because he pushes power button and it goes into hibernate mode before closing lid.
I would like to raise the issue of the difference between hibernate and sleep mode. I too find that if i put my y2p (and my mbp-bootcamp) into hibernate mode then my battery does not drain overnight. however, both my laptops drain the battery overnight in sleep mode... anyone have clear understanding of this? i've look at many articles on the web, but haven't found any that specifically indicate how fast sleep mode should drain batteries. I think my gf's mba-OSx also drains overnight in sleep mode and OSx doesn't even have a hibernate option (correct me if i'm wrong)...

  • Battery will not charge. and other issues

Well i'm working on a friend of mines notebook, its a n100 model 0768 12u running windows xp. This is the situation so far. First his hard drive had fried so i replaced that and put the o.s. back on it,but now the battery will not charge. also the wireless network card and dvd drive did not work. I had originally thought that they might have fried as well when the hard drive went down. However I looked through the forums here and found that alot of people solved the battery issue simply by replacing the battery i recommended that. He purchased a replacement battery ( not a genuine lenovo battery, don't know if that makes a difference) and when i put it in the dvd drive and the network card started working no problem. But alas the battery still would not charge. the system runs fine without a battery in it, but if i put the battery in it while its running it turns itself off after about 30 seconds of having the battery in. when the system is powered off and i put the battery in the battery lcd in front blinks 5 times orange then nothing for about 30 seconds then 5 more times. maybe thats a trouble code, don't know, looked all oover the forums and couldn't find anything quite like it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
     thanks
    Steve

    Duck3,
Glad that worked for you!  Thanks for sharing here.
I saw a weird situation on friend's ThinkPad recently - a replacement battery arrived with a 37% charge (not 100% deliberately as somewhere around 40% is the best for shelf life), but it would not accept a charge.   We did a reset by removing the battery & AC and pressing and holding the power button a number of times  (some people say 10 times, some two or three times for a count of 5 or 10).   This drains residual capacitance.
We plugged back in the battery and AC and it began to charge.
Might be worth a try here before he opens it up ....

  • Macbook Pro Late 2008 not recognizing battery and not charging

    Hello
i really need some help please
    i have a Macbook pro 15" Late 2008 running os x 10.7.4
i will say briefly how did the problem begin and what is the problem
it stopped charging for some reason the magsafe light was (and still is) dim green and at the battery icon it said not charging but after a couple of hours that it was turned off and connected i found out it is charging really slowly
    later on that week
i was using an app called DSLR remote connected to my camera i left my macbook on the table outside connected via usb to my camera waited on it and came back
when i came back my mac was out of battery
i took it in hook it up to the magsafe nada nothing not charging dim light
so what i did i knew my magsafe charger is ready to be changed so i bought a new one
    tried it same problem
later on did an smc reset
it did turn on biw the fans are really loud the battery icon (x) and it said no batteries available
so i tried my old fastly drained battery it used to hold up about 1-2 hours then i bought another battery but that was in the past
so i tried both batteries smc reseting with both same result
the smcfancontrol app says fan speed 000 rpm and temoerature 0 C
and one more thing when the mac is off and not connected to the magsafe i click on the battery indicator light on the left side i get a flashing light (battery empty needs to be charged) when i connect the magsafe it stops working even when its off and while its just connected
so it is and SMC problem
it has been like that for the past 4 weeks or so
    i really need some help
and im from israel so no apple genius bars around =_= and i have a good technical knowledge
    Sincerely, Sari Hassoun

its not about solving or not its about trying to
i understand nobody wants to make any harm to my macbook
    thats reasonable
anyway its a hardware faliure of some sort i'll need to check it my self but now im almost sure its not software because i've tried many things
my other option is to run it off a battery
the thing is my battery is out so when its attached the battey indicator lights do work (they are controled by the SMC) that might solve it too
    thanks for replying really
    its appreciated

  • I have an apple ipod. it has a drained battery and i have been unable to switch it back on. i have plugged it in to charge but its more dead than a dodo. can anyone help?

    Help!
My kids IPOD touch has a drained battery. Usually I charge it and all is rosey. Not this time its showing no signs of life at all. Does anyone have any ideas please? Many thanks

Try a different charger. If that doesn't work, hold down the home and power buttons down at the same time for 10 seconds while the iPod is on the charger and see if it shows any signs of life. If none of the above work, you should set up a Genius Bar appointment at your locla Apple store. If you don't have a local Apple Store, you should call Apple customer support to get a replacement iPod.
