Lollipop update is a mixed bag

So I just got Lollipop on my Z1C and had alot of expectations. Sadly it has more downsides for me at the moment. The interface is pretty inconsistent and the white color ... oh my god I need to wear sunglasses now when operating on my phone. The autobrightness that had same flukes in Kitkat seems to be here as well (it's increasing the brightness when the background has white or any light colors in it and not based on the ambient light). Basically I can't use the phone during nighttime if I want to read something without disabling autobrightness or else my eyes bleed. Speaking about inconsistencies what is this Sony on the right the "thing" there was just slapped on in the last seconds? I bet is isn't hard to use same design you used to clear the dropdown notifications, something similar to what I "painted" on the left.  Next up some other inconsistencies. Though our phone can do 4K video recording (yes it can, it's not a hardware limitation ... just Sony limitation and I don't need to prove this you already know) I was happy we at least got 1080p@60FPS on Lollipop. Or did we? The screen below is from a video shot at 1080p@60FPS, or well at least that's what the camera app thinks so.  Oh yes that is 30FPS and I'm not the only one reporting this issue, XDA threads started to notice this too. Next up some benchmarkings that I thought would at least be as good as Kitkat if not better. Well I guess I was wrong again. I ran the test 3 times to be sure and got similar results, nothing over 40k and that runtime ... well something is wrong there for sure.  I'm not trying to make a hate thread here since I stuck with Sony since my first smartphone but some stuff here kind of demonstrates someone is not doing his job right and for sure it isn't me.  Since 5.0.2 will probably be the last update for Z1C I'm dissapointed a bit but I also have nothing to worry about in the same time since the lovely devs and mods on XDA will do better. I do feel sorry for the average users though that doesn't tinker with his phone. They will just have to manage with this.

Best practice to upgrade to lollipop:1.upgrade to the latest version without wiping the data(you may get buggy software)2.backup all data using Backup&Restore app at lollipop version.(you can't backup using this app at kitkat to restore it at Lollipop)3.Reset factory and erase evrything4.then repair your phone using PC companion5.Restore data and settings from Backup&Restore APP Pros:1.Smooth and best UI2.Most features and apps work without issues.3.Not detect any serious bug while acting as daily use4.I get 429xx at Antutu Benchmark today and it was shared at twitter5.SOT 2h 30m and the battery still 63% without Stamina Mode enabled.6.More than 16Hr use and free RAM is >500MB Cons:1.We can't enable/disable Data from lockscreen(maybe for secure wise)2.Camera not tested(rarely use for me)3.Close all button isn't properly located or need to redsign4.Can't get the specialized setting from quick launch(only available for Wifi and Bluetooth)

  • LG G3 lollipop update - no app or email notifications while on WiFi

After the lollipop update, while on my WiFi xfinity router, no apps or emails push notifications come through and does not update Facebook feed. I already did a factory reset on my LG G3 and reset my router to no effect. Please help

I do not see how "advance WiFi calling has an impact on the issue with account syncing. I, and many others having an issue where applications, those native to android and third party apps, and not syncing automatically in the background when the phone is connected to WiFi.
As a result, we are not receiving notifications for many applications while our phone are connected to WiFi. This is an issue with devices that have been upgraded to Lollipop. In order to receive updates from applications, you either have to open the application and force it to sync OR disconnect from WiFi.
I've seen this to be called the "WiFi syncing bug" that was at issue in lollipop prior to the release, but was not fixed.

    1.         I have a security app on my computer, Flashbrief. I have it checked in the hide column but whenever I turn on the computerit appears in the top menu line.
I've never heard of this software, and cannot find any reference to it online, which is a bit concerning.  What is it supposed to do?  There really isn't much need for security software on a Mac.
    2.         Whenever Iturn on the computer, a new blank document window in MS Word 2011 appears.  I do not have this listed in the login items.
In Mac OS X 10.7, any applications left open when you shut down or restart are re-opened at startup, and any documents left open in an app when you quit are re-opened when you launch them again.  The former can be controlled by unchecking the box in the restart/shutdown alert:
You will need to do this each time you shut down or restart, it won't remember that setting.
The latter can be deactivated by unchecking the box in System Preferences -> General:

That does not sound normal, but I don't use a mouse with my MBP, so I can't provide a solution, other than to try replacing the batteries in the mouse.

  • Notice for 2 Updates Needed for Note 3 Lollipop Update

This morning I had an update notice on my Galaxy Note 3saying I had an update available which I took care of right away. It also said that this was 1 of 2 updates in preparation of Lollipop 5.0. After the rather small update, it said another would be available soon. About an hour later, on a whim, I checked "updates" on my phone and it said the 5.0 was available. I postponed this update until this afternoon. Has anyone else seen this multiple update approach? I have not come across any mention of this in the forums.

Another update on the Lollipop update: The widgets I thought were gone were just moved. Now they are at the bottom of the screen when you press the "Home" button. Otherwise, the phone seems to be operating as it should. I have noted better wifi performance in graphics popping up right away instead of slowly loading (this is specific to my crappy Comcast wifi).

  • First impressions (mixed bag)

My first impressions after having BT Infinity installed on Friday are a mixed bag. Speed tests extremely good, 76Mb down/ 18Mb up, pretty maxed out on a short line (cab < 300 metres). However, my gripes.....
P2P is heavily shaped. No problem, afterall I was on BT ADSL and used to traffic shaping being lifted in early hours of the morning to do download. However, uploads are permently 24/7 throttled to 1Mb, which I do not think it acceptable.
I run an FTP server and regularly upload to it. FTP port is permentaly throtlled to 8Mb upload. I know this is still fast but I think to artificially slow FTP upload down 24/7 is again unacceptable.
Home hub 3 is rubbish and a security risk. It permently keeps port 161 open (as tested by test my shields) and port forwarding seems broken. I thought I had a faulty one but after doing some research it seems that these are common issues!
Needless to say initially impressed, but now I'm more annoyed with the service. Like car with a top speed of 150MPH but can never do more than 60MPH, even on a empty road!

Thanks for your advice guys. I already subscribe to SwissVPN as I have always done on ADSL to bypass traffic shaping, and it used to max out my 4Mb connection but that seems capped too at 8Mb down and about 1Mb up. I pay about £6 a month.
Can you recommened another VPN provider that can provide higher speeds than this? I wouldn't mind a US VPN as I guess this would allow to access media content in the US (hulu etc) but would really prefer highest speed VPN possible for under £10 a month? What VPN speeds to you get using StrongVPN?
A basic feature such as port forwarding I would expect on the cheapest of routers. What the point in a router if it can't route? This must be causing BT support calls that aren't really needed if router worked as intended.

I found an article which suggests the following workaround:
"This has worked for some people so it’s worth a try. Go to Settings > About tablet or About phone and tap the Build number seven times. This will unlock Developer options in Settings. Scroll down until you see an entry under Media that says Use NuPlayer (experimental) and try disabling it. Now restart your device.

  • Touchscreen Problems after Lollipop Update

Hello everyone, I remember that within the past year, there were maybe 5 occasions in which my Xperia Z touchscreen wouldn't react. After turning the screen off and on again, it would be fine again. Since the Lollipop update, this issue occurs 90% of the time. When I turn the screen on, the touch input doesn't work at all. Sometimes, it will start working after I turn the screen off and on several times. Somtimes a full restart of the phone does the trick. However, once the touch input is working, it works perfectly as long as the screen stays on. Is this behaviour typical for a hardware defect and the occurrence after the update is just coincidence? (which, for me, would be somewhat hard to believe...) Or is there anything on the software side that I should do/try? Many thanks and best regards, Philipp

Please read my previous posts and see why I’m very unhappy with “my” Sony.http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Reboot-loop-in-Xperia-ZL-after-update-to-Lollipop/m-p/993700#M57879http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Reboot-loop-in-Xperia-ZL-after-update-to-Lollipop/td-p/992453/page/3http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Reboot-loop-in-Xperia-ZL-after-update-to-Lollipop/m-p/997325#M58418 I think that Sony is behind the faults in the systems, because they noticed that many of their users do not live in the country where they bought their phone. Sony wasn't happy that people shop globally, losing market share in the country they live in today. The decision to mess up these smartphones during an update is easy - they know your IMEI. I find it hard to believe a global company would be so desperate to try to sell new smartphones, to gain market share. Yet, it appears to be the case, even for customers who bought a phone in the country they live in, apparently a parallel imported one. The fact Sony only uses PCC and abandoned SUS (Update service) - where downgrades were possible – in July 2014 only enhances that impression. The lack of support from Sony adds to the conclusion that Sony is unethically blocking smartphones.   Sign in via my link to change this: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/Sony_Mobile_Division_Sony_solve_the_problems_with_updates_that_block_foreign_smartphones/?ejpryjb

  • Mixed Bag

I joined BT Broadband 5 weeks ago and it has been a mixed bag.  Some total confusion over my package, speeds mainly around 16mbps which is good, but sometimes only 3mbps which is terrible.  However today I received a Welcome to BT message saying my Broadband was ready followed by another message as a MAC reminder, telling me I have 25 days to give BT my MAC in order to complete my order?!!  It looks like they have started my order process all over again.  I wonder what would happen if I took no action, perhaps after 25 days BT tell me I can not continue my order and I will be free to move elsewhere.  Not really of course as I am already being billed for my Broadband and Calls.  Strange situation.

  • 2nd Half of Lollipop Update Fails

I received the first half of the Lollipop update with no issues.  My phone then prompted me to download the second update package, which I did.  The install gets to the Android Firmware screen, runs for about 5 minutes, then says "Error!" and reboots.  After reboot, I get a message that the update has failed.
I have rebooted my phone and tried again.
I have removed my battery and tried again.
Using Kies, I get the message that my device is on the current firmware.  Which I know is wrong.
Forums indicated trying the VZW Upgrade Assisstant/Repair Tool.  After Installing, I get this message:
I should have plenty of room for this update...
My phone is running the last version updated...
Verizon - I don't want to do a "Factory Reset" again... I had to do that for the kitkat update...
    Please advise on troubleshooting/fix.
    Thank you,

to be clear: after downloading and validating the OTA update, it reboots, starts installing, says error and reboots again.  About a minute after it reboots, it pops up with this:
When I go to software update again, it shows this.
