Lollipop Update Summary

After reading quite a few posts regarding the update and updating my own S5, I wrote an article highlighting some of my thoughts. You can read them here:
https://photographylife.com/lollipop-androids-latest-upgrade

OK it is quite apparent that what needs to happen is for us Verizon Wireless customers to do after this and Verizon's uncaring support for this terrible malady that has affected to many of us is to do a class action law suit against Verizon Wireless and sue them for so many millions of dollars that they are forced to go out of business.  A business in the United States is a privilege and not a constitutional right.  They have shamed themselves and their customers by not warning customers about this update will destroy their phones.  They should have researched it themselves as from what I have been reading that Google was aware of the many problems and bugs with this update but Verizon Wireless chose to go ahead and destroy their customer's phones any way.  The company has lost all rights to operate a company in the United States and a class action law suit should be filed.  We are talking about millions of Americans whose phones have been destroyed due to this update and we as Americans cannot idly stand by and let any company do this to us.  They have a responsibility  to the United States and it's citizens and customers to protect us from such actions that they knowingly would destroy our phones.  Like many others my LG G2 no longer is loud enough to be heard and also in most areas now it loses a signal and in most cases no longer gets the G4 signal which I am paying for.  I fully believe that each customer should sue for at least five million dollars for the pain and suffering and humiliation they have put their customers through.

  • LG G3 lollipop update - no app or email notifications while on WiFi

After the lollipop update, while on my WiFi xfinity router, no apps or emails push notifications come through and does not update Facebook feed. I already did a factory reset on my LG G3 and reset my router to no effect. Please help

I do not see how "advance WiFi calling has an impact on the issue with account syncing. I, and many others having an issue where applications, those native to android and third party apps, and not syncing automatically in the background when the phone is connected to WiFi.
As a result, we are not receiving notifications for many applications while our phone are connected to WiFi. This is an issue with devices that have been upgraded to Lollipop. In order to receive updates from applications, you either have to open the application and force it to sync OR disconnect from WiFi.
I've seen this to be called the "WiFi syncing bug" that was at issue in lollipop prior to the release, but was not fixed.

  • Notice for 2 Updates Needed for Note 3 Lollipop Update

This morning I had an update notice on my Galaxy Note 3saying I had an update available which I took care of right away. It also said that this was 1 of 2 updates in preparation of Lollipop 5.0. After the rather small update, it said another would be available soon. About an hour later, on a whim, I checked "updates" on my phone and it said the 5.0 was available. I postponed this update until this afternoon. Has anyone else seen this multiple update approach? I have not come across any mention of this in the forums.

Another update on the Lollipop update: The widgets I thought were gone were just moved. Now they are at the bottom of the screen when you press the "Home" button. Otherwise, the phone seems to be operating as it should. I have noted better wifi performance in graphics popping up right away instead of slowly loading (this is specific to my crappy Comcast wifi).

I found an article which suggests the following workaround:
"This has worked for some people so it’s worth a try. Go to Settings > About tablet or About phone and tap the Build number seven times. This will unlock Developer options in Settings. Scroll down until you see an entry under Media that says Use NuPlayer (experimental) and try disabling it. Now restart your device.

  • Touchscreen Problems after Lollipop Update

Hello everyone, I remember that within the past year, there were maybe 5 occasions in which my Xperia Z touchscreen wouldn't react. After turning the screen off and on again, it would be fine again. Since the Lollipop update, this issue occurs 90% of the time. When I turn the screen on, the touch input doesn't work at all. Sometimes, it will start working after I turn the screen off and on several times. Somtimes a full restart of the phone does the trick. However, once the touch input is working, it works perfectly as long as the screen stays on. Is this behaviour typical for a hardware defect and the occurrence after the update is just coincidence? (which, for me, would be somewhat hard to believe...) Or is there anything on the software side that I should do/try? Many thanks and best regards, Philipp

Please read my previous posts and see why I’m very unhappy with “my” Sony.http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Reboot-loop-in-Xperia-ZL-after-update-to-Lollipop/m-p/993700#M57879http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Reboot-loop-in-Xperia-ZL-after-update-to-Lollipop/td-p/992453/page/3http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/Reboot-loop-in-Xperia-ZL-after-update-to-Lollipop/m-p/997325#M58418 I think that Sony is behind the faults in the systems, because they noticed that many of their users do not live in the country where they bought their phone. Sony wasn't happy that people shop globally, losing market share in the country they live in today. The decision to mess up these smartphones during an update is easy - they know your IMEI. I find it hard to believe a global company would be so desperate to try to sell new smartphones, to gain market share. Yet, it appears to be the case, even for customers who bought a phone in the country they live in, apparently a parallel imported one. The fact Sony only uses PCC and abandoned SUS (Update service) - where downgrades were possible – in July 2014 only enhances that impression. The lack of support from Sony adds to the conclusion that Sony is unethically blocking smartphones.   Sign in via my link to change this: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/Sony_Mobile_Division_Sony_solve_the_problems_with_updates_that_block_foreign_smartphones/?ejpryjb

  • Update services unavailable for 2nd part of Lollipop update

I got the first half of the lollipop update and went back to get the second half and now its telling me the verizon update services are unavailable.

Part one is 117 MB and part two is 904 MB; you'll need up to 1.7 GB of reserved memory to upgrade according to the update instructions:

  • 2nd Half of Lollipop Update Fails

I received the first half of the Lollipop update with no issues.  My phone then prompted me to download the second update package, which I did.  The install gets to the Android Firmware screen, runs for about 5 minutes, then says "Error!" and reboots.  After reboot, I get a message that the update has failed.
I have rebooted my phone and tried again.
I have removed my battery and tried again.
Using Kies, I get the message that my device is on the current firmware.  Which I know is wrong.
Forums indicated trying the VZW Upgrade Assisstant/Repair Tool.  After Installing, I get this message:
I should have plenty of room for this update...
My phone is running the last version updated...
Verizon - I don't want to do a "Factory Reset" again... I had to do that for the kitkat update...
    Please advise on troubleshooting/fix.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

to be clear: after downloading and validating the OTA update, it reboots, starts installing, says error and reboots again.  About a minute after it reboots, it pops up with this:
When I go to software update again, it shows this.

  • Feedback - Google Chrome tabs display not good in Lollipop update

Before the Xperia Z3 lollipop update, Google Chrome opened new tabs in the app itself and displayed a "2" on the 1st webpage when opening 2nd new tab but now it opens 2nd new tab without a "2" and the 2nd tab can only be found in Shortcut (next to Home button) instead that seemed to be more confusing, inconvenient and troublesome.

  • Sony walkman player bug after lollipop update

Sony walkman player has bug  when listen to song via headphone bass goes off and sound become very loud and worse...sony should look after this issue.

Walkman is my favorite music player app. I never install any other app to play music. Unfortunatly, this app isn't working properly after Lollipop update. I'm experiencing the following issues: 1. Sometimes volume up/ down doesn't work2. Equalizer and other sound effect don't work3. Sometimes, it play music without any bass4. For 1/ 2 mp3 file the above mentioned issues are permanent. When I face any of these issues, I restart the app/ reinsert my headphone. Sometimes, the problem is solved and sometimes not. Do you have any explanation sbout the issues? Please don't ask me to repair Lollipop. I have already done it. Should I try kitkat again?
