Lombard 333 Making Screaming Sound When Aftermarket Battery Is Moved In Bay

I recently posted in "Using..." and eventually determined that this problem has to do with the (aftermarket) battery I am using:
Whenever I would disconnect my ac adapter, wake the unit from sleep, or even go to power it up, I would hear a sort of "screaming" sound coming from it and the powerbook would shut down.
This started occuring just within the last two or three weeks or so, and it was a very off/on problem. After the unit would shut down, I would reset the PRAM and start it back up, and usually it would work fine. I repaired permissions because I had recently installed a Security Update.
Eventually, I was using the powerbook and went to move it slightly on the desk (while it was running), and I accidentally nudged the battery while it was in the (left) bay, causing the screaming noise to happen again. I moved the battery around in the bay and the screaming was intermittent. Unfortunately, I purchased this battery online and still need to send it back for a refund/exchange, and the battery that came with the unit when I bought it is dead, so I have no way of testing this "the aftermarket battery is crap theory," and I was just wondering if there was anything else I could do in the meantime? I believe I tried the battery in both expansion bays and the same thing happened.
What if I receive another battery and I have the same problem? I assume the worst case scenario would be that I would have to replace some hardware, but the battery seems to be recognized and charge just fine and I haven't had any other problems with it since I got it just over a month ago.
Any thoughts on this?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Woke the PB up after it had been asleep for a day or so... it screamed when I woke it up, the UI got funny, and then it was ok... I had the PC card in.
Booted from OS 9.2.2 disc, unplugged the adapter, had no problem.
Booted back into OSX, unplugged the adapter, no problem.
I was doing some work on my wireless LAN settings, and then decided to unplug the adapter so I could move around... it didn't make the scream sound, but it shut off. Restarted. The year in Date & Time went to 1969, but then were corrected automatically when the PB found the wireless network.
I just unplugged the adapter again and nothing happened.
What's the deal? Very wierd...

  • Canon S120 making funny sounds when moving it around (in automatic mode)

    Hi everyone,
I have a little question for those owning the Canon S120.
I just bought it and I noticed that my camera is making funny sounds when I move it around. Those sounds seem to occur more often when I'm in the automatic mode.  If I don't move the camera, it doesn't make any sound, but as soon as I move it, it does a little "toc-toc" sound (hard to describe, it's like the camera is adjusting something automatically when it moves).  It seems to come from inside the camera and not from outside.  I have owned my Canon cameras before and this is the first time I notice that.
    Has anyone else noticed that?
If so, is it "normal" or have I received a defective unit?
    Thanks for your help!

Open the MBP.  Place it on a towel so you can slide it around easily and not scratch it.  Take a #00 Phillips driver and take the bottom cover off.  3 of the screws will be longer than the rest.  Inspect the interior for anything that may be loose.
The other option is to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have them do it.
    Ciao.

  • My iphone is making clicking sounds when I try to slide it or tap on an app.  I can not make phone calls.

I hit something on my Iphone to make it start talking.  I also was not able to slide the screen up or down right or left.  I looked around on the web and found out how to stop it from talking,  Now it is making clicking sounds when I tap on an app.  The screen will still not slide. I have to tap on an app about 5 or six times to make it do anything.  Now I can't make a phone call because the keys will not respond when I tap on them.

i am sorry to say but there is no way to undo a software update to go back you have to go threw your phone provider and have then do a replacement on the phone and just not do the update. when they receive the phone they will send it off for testing and to have the bugs fixed

  • IPhone making strange sound when receive all types of message.

I've bought my iPhone 4S last week and it started making a really strange sound when receiving all sorts of messages (e-mail, whatsapp, sms). The sound is the sound I selected for each one but it loops 4 or 5 times everytime! What can it be?

If no change after powering your iPhone off and on, try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. An iPhone reset does not affect any data or settings.

  • Mac making beeping sound when CD is inserted

Ok so I have been trying to rip a CD, Sugarland: The Incredible Machine, onto my computer for the past week.  At first I thought it was that particular CD, that something was wrong with it so I exchanged it and got a new one.  It is making the same beeping sound when I insert it.  It doesn't show up in iTunes, except briefly to rip 2 songs then spit the CD out.  I tried a different CD, The Eli Young band, and it ripped perfectly fine so I know it's not the computer.  Does anyone know why my computer is doing this with just this one CD??

In general you normally will hear a whirling sound coming from the cd drive while a cd is spinning. If the cd has any labels on it might make the cd unbalanced then you might hear an even louder vibration coming from the drive. Otherwise as long as the cd is working in the drive and mounting it should be normal. Was the cd not showing up for you?

  • MSI GE60 0ND - Keyboard making squeaky sound when pressed.

Having this weird issue on my new laptop, out of nowhere I just realized my "w" button is making slightly loud and squeaky sound when pressed. I'm curious if in this product we could remove the key and put it back in?
    Thank you.

I tried turning off AHCI in the bios which resulted in a bsod on windows startup. I then enabled AHCI again and started up windows. Windows then went into error checking mode and after about 30 minutes had the message that it was unable to fix errors with the system. Booted up normally after that and it was fine, however it took much longer than usual.
Should I try disable AHCI and then run windows recovery so it puts a fresh copy of win 7 on the drive?
Edit: I ran hdd tune before trying to disable AHCI, no errors were found and the hdd health was ok
Edit2: installed https://sites.google.com/site/quiethdd/ which seems to have stopped the sound

  • MacBook making clicking sound when moved?! not the sms HELPP

Today, i was using my MacBook and it started to make a clicking like sound when moved from side to side. I have had my MacBook for less then a week so I have no idea what could have happened. The computer has not beed dropped or anything! It is not the sms because I turned it off to see if the noise would still happen, and it did. Also this happenes when the computer is off. I cannot take it to a store because the closest one to me is an hour away.

Normally, a clicking sound would be an indication of a bad HD or if the Superdrive is trying to read a damage disc. Personally, since its a week-old computer, I'd take a one hour drive than taking the chance of the HD failing after the warranty expired. You can try calling Apple as well (1800APPL). You should still have FREE phone support.

  • Disk Making Surging Sound - When to get help

My Macbook Pro 2.33Ghz is 4.5 months old. The disc is making a surging sound and other odd noises. Do I need to wait for a complete failure before talking with a Genius at the Apple Store?
If the drive fails and I hand it to a Genius, will I be required to pay $349 for Applecare to get it fixed?
    Thanks
p.s. Yes, I have a nice backup thanks to SuperDuper -- even booted from it to make sure it would work. I am working on backing up my Boot Camp partition using some advice on this site.

Coming from the left side under the palm rest, I presume? (i.e. not the optical drive noises)
Run Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Is the SMART status "verified"? Click on Verify Disk (not permissions). Any errors reported?
If yes, you cannot repair the boot disk, so boot from the Install DVD 1 (insert disc, reboot with the c key held down), select language, then when the installer comes up go to the Utilities menu and select Disk Utility, select your hard drive in the list on the left, then click Repair Disk.
You can also boot from Install DVD 1 with the d key held down to run the Apple Hardware Test.
RE: +If the drive fails and I hand it to a Genius, will I be required to pay $349 for Applecare to get it fixed?+
Your MBP comes with a 1 year warranty, so no charge for the fix if it fails. The $349 extends that 1 year warranty for an additional 2 years (and you can purchase that extension anytime before the 1 year warranty expires).
    Hope this helps...

  • Ipod stopped working making weak sound when try to charge

Hi when i went to charge my ipod it made a weak sound like it was trying to start a motor and it gives an error message to go to the apple support site. It wont charge and it wont turn on . I have tried reseting but the same error message comes up. It's an old ipod with the wheel

The sound is probably coming from the iPod's hard drive, since that's the only thing in the iPod with moving parts.  Unfortunately, the most likely cause is faulty hard drive, if doing a Reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
takes you back to the same error screen.  You can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
If it goes into Disk Mode, run iTunes and connect the iPod.  If iTunes prompts you to do a Restore, do a Restore.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  If the cause is data corruption and there is no hardware problem, the Restore may fix it.  However, that odd sound is probably indicating a hardware problem with the hard drive.

  • Help!! My galaxy s3 stopped making a sound when I get e-mails,texts.etc..

When I first got my phone about  3 months ago everything worked fine. Now the notification  sound stopped working, I have checked and it is still on in the settings. Also, when people text, message, or leave a voice mail I don't get the notification for hours sometimes not until the next day. When I call someone they tell me that on the Caller ID it shows an out of state number that is not mine? I have taken it back to the store and they can't get it to work either. They told me to do a factory reset, but I needed to make sure I had saved to my SDcard. I really don't want to do a reset if possible, does anyone have any suggestions??
    Thanks

  • T61 clicking sound when on battery

    Can anybody help??
Whenever I unplugged the power jack and running on battery,
My speakers keep on clicking whenever I click on something (like opening folders or browsing)
The sound gets bigger if I turned the volume up...
It's not the windows XP click sound, but it's a very annoying clicking sound..
    Any ideas??
    (T7500 2.2Ghz, NVS140m 128mb, 3GB, Windows XP sp3)

I have the same problem on my T61. I had XP SP2 professional on it for six months or so without any problems, then re-imaged it with Win XP SP3 (new install). Since I get jitter mouse move, crackling/popping audio and jittey video. Something clashes every 3-4 seconds and every time it does, audio pops, mouse blocks and video skips. It lasts about 50 miliseconds, then it moves on fine.
I'm sure its the driver/bios compatibility issue, but I cant pinpoint yet what exactly.

  • Optical drive constantly making ejecting sounds when drive is empty

the disc drive on my iMac randomly tries to eject a disc for a minute or more at a time when the drive is empty....any ideas why this is??

Hmmm, I think I'd try this...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. (Thinking maybe iTunes helper here).
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Ipad5 not charging or making the 'sound' when charging begins; had it over a year

It's <1%; won't stay on; can't get to home screen; tried different known-working plugs, cords, docks. If it just needs a new battery, how can I test it myself?

Open iPhoto, select a couple of photos and use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photo page menu option.  That has jump started iWeb for others.  I could take a couple of tries.
If that doesn't work try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iiWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder.
3 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • What is my iphone making a sound (like a turn on sound) when I turn it on....never happened before!!!  How do I turn off this sound?

Not sure whats going on today...why is my Iphone making a sound when I turn it on...like a beep noise...it never happened before...how can I turn it off???

Does a Reset work? Mostly unlikely! [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

iPad is not making any sound when typing, watching video from YouTube and video from cameroll. I don't even hear when I receive notification. My mom and dad has the same problem on their iPhone 4s. My mom when to apple store to replace for a new phone but do I have to go to the apple store to replace it too? DISCONNECT BLUETOOTH.
After doing all the ridiculous resetting and changing/checking the settings by the advice given on these forums and on YouTube, I finally discovered that if you have your apple device connected to any other device by bluetooth you will not get any audio but by the device it's connected to. How un-awesome is that? Ive always been used to how my android devices work with Bluetooth which is when the system you're connected to is off or in a different mode, you still have audio. That makes perfect sense and is convenient, right? But I thought my brand new ipad was busted when I connected to my entertainment system by Bluetooth and haven't been getting any audio the last few weeks. So basically I need to go into settings every stinking time if I want to hear my game or show my wife a YouTube video. Regretting ever got this overpriced tablet...
