Long..BEEP...BEEP...

So I got my MSI Neo2 Plat!
I set it all up, test it - it all works, Windows boots, stable stuff.
Turn it off, close the case, etc.  Press power on button - NOTHING.
?  I recheck - everything is where it should be...
I try again - NOTHING...!  ARGH!
I go study some for exams, come back, try again and WOAH - it powers on fine!  YES!
But now...it just does BEEP...BEEP..
Kind of long-medium beep, not short.
What does that mean?  ASUS manual had a troubleshooting guide that explained signals, but I can't find it in my manual here...
HELP!
ALSO:  I go to CELL MENU, use the secret SHIFT+F2, and ALT+F3 thing.  I set all options to default, but my DRAM is being detected as 133Mhz, and CPU bus is 200Mhz.  So, in DRAM COnfig in Cell Menu, I set DRAM to 200Mhz Max, but...it still says and uses as 133Mhz....
What to do?

When it is set to Manual in “DDR Timing Setting by”, user can place an artificial memory clock limit on the system. Please note that memory is prevented from running faster than this frequency. Setting options: [100], [133], [166], [200].

Yes, the Max Memclock is what I use to set it to 200Mhz FSB.  Is there something else to it that I am missing.  Setting Max Memclock to 200Mhz shoiuld set a 1:1 ratio, but it doesn't...keeps going back to 133Mhz on startup.
I am using SLOT 1 and SLOT 2 (Green and Purple).
Also TRIED 3 and 4.  Would not even boot, but simply BEEP.  I tried 1 and 3 single channel, will beep, not boot.
Is there any SOFTWARE I can use to adjust the FSB/MEM ratio/divider?

  • One long repeating beep and no video output

Sometimes when switching on a system build with KT6 Delta , I get one long repeating beep and no video output. The problem usually is solved if I unplug the monitor cable from the vga card and plug it in again. Still, I am thinking why does this happen since the cable seems to be connected fine?

    1 Beep: DRAM refresh failure
Explanation: The system is having a problem accessing the system memory to refresh it. Refreshing is done on all system memory to keep its contents active.
Diagnosis: This code usually means a problem either with the system memory or with the motherboard itself.
Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem
Explanation: The system is producing constant beeping in no specific pattern, or a fast "ringing" sound.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the system memory, or possibly the video card. The memory is more likely--the system complains long and loud if it can't find any usable memory, as there is no way to even start the boot process when this is the case. The motherboard itself could also be the problem.

  • Long single beep noise on startup.

When I started up my MacBook Pro after a software update (EFI and Thunderbolt software), it made a long single beep noise, then showed the Apple logo with a progress bar below it, then flashed the screen, and went to the regular startup with the Apple logo.
I have a MacBook Pro 17", that was purchased 2 months ago, and running Mac OS X 10.7.1 (Lion).
Is this long beep a problem? If yes, what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Satyarth.

No problem, your firmware was updated.
A long tone will be heard, then a gray screen with an Apple logo appears. There is a progress bar under the logo. As the progress bar moves, your firmware is being updated.

  • P67A-GD55 boot stops at POST 99 w/ 1-long+2short beep code.

Well subject line tells most of the story:
P67A-GD55 boot stops at POST 99 in lower right of display and with 1-long+2short beep code.
I've found a note somewhere on these forums that 99 code means Super IO initialization,   though I'm not sure if this is the checkpoint before or after that process.
I've found generic information that suggests 1long+2short beep code indicates a video card failure.
I'm surprised that the manual for the MB doesn't list these codes, and that they weren't listed in the troubleshooting FAQ on the MSI site.   So I still wonder if it may mean something else.
I've disconnected all the SATA connections,  and removed all pci cards except for the video card.   Guess I'll try disconnecting the front-panel usb connectors too in a moment, but I'm running out of ideas.
With a EVGA GT520 video card,   I get these symptoms regardless of which pcie slot I put the card in.
With a Galaxy 8400GS  the beep code is the same but no output is ever visible on the display.  It seems possible that I just need an adapter to use the other connector on this card to see the output though.
With a EVGA 7800GT   the symptoms are the same as with the EVGA GT520
If I try removing the memory sticks I get 3-long beeps followed by system shutting itself down.

Run of the mil keyboard.    (has a logo with a circle containing a crescent containing a D).   Suppose I could switch to a usb keyboard around here somewhere.
Disconnected the logitec usb mouse that I had connected to the back panel with no change in symptoms.
Toughpower-650 power supply (had been in use on a system that was running an athlon x64 and the GT7800GT graphics card.
2 sticks PNY DDR3 PC3-10666 4G  ("compatible with 1333MHz")   1 stick in each blue slot.
No idea how to tell you the UFEI/BIOS version.    The manual says its "CLiCK BiOS"   but since I've never seen anything but 98,99 and _  displayed by the BIOS  I really don't know.
Removing the case front panel USB connectors didn't change symptoms.
Resetting the bios by the button at the back panel connectors (near keyboard connector)  didn't change anything. (although it did not cause  "system will boot automatically"  as a line in the manual might suggest.
Tried using the JBAT connector to clear the bios as well and likewise no change in symptoms.
There are no peripherals connected other than case power switch, power LED and HDD LED at this point.    Somehow I don't expect much change from disconnecting LED's.    Case switch seems to be behaving normally in that it causes the boot cycle to start, and if pressed while the "99" is sitting there in corner of screen it causes machine to shut down.
No SATA devices are connected to it since they won't really be useful untill can at least get to the BIOS.   The sata cables that would go to those devices are still connected to the MB.
    CPU:i5-2400 3.1GHz 6MB Cache LGA1155 95W
Heatsink:Cooler Master Vortex PlusRR-VTPS-28pk-r1  connected to the CPU fan connector on MB.
    No sysfan connections to MB.

  • Serious prob w/long continuous beep

Ok, first off i'm not a noob but have no clue whats wrong.  You would think an A+ tech would be able to figure this out, but hey no ones perfect.
I just got this board last week and its been absolutely perfect.  Today I decided to sleeve all my power supply wires.  Went just fine with the little tool for molex pins.  Anywho, as soon as I powered on I got a LOUD continuous beep!!  Freaked me out so I just hit the switch on back of PSU.   FigureD I had put the wires back into molex connectors backwords.  Went back and checked them all THOROUGHLY and they were fine.  Hit the swich back on in the back (didn't press power switch in front) and the CPU fan started up and there was the beep again.
So now I'm worried.  What does one long long long continuous beep mean?  Anyone had this prob?  What can I do?  Its brand new and I need my PC or I can't function!! HELP!!!!

Ive been to hell and back with configuring my 875p neo but ive never had one long continuous bleep, only missing bleeps from devices not recognised.
One long bleep or a a very fast burst of short beeps ?
I had a very fast burst of short beeps from a different mobo when I had an ide cable in the wrong way round (no raised bump in middle on cable) so the red side of the ide cable was on pin 40 and not pin1. Hang on, have I got that the right way around ?
Anyway, it sounds like a connection issue but who am I to advise an A+ tech
There are some really helpful guys on this forum and im sure you will be sorted in no time.

  • K8N Neo Platinum No Video, Long Repeating Beep

I recently RMA'D almost every part to my computer, as it wasn't posting, booting, or doing much of anything.
I bought a new case, and powersupply.
I got everything back, put it back together, and zing! it worked.
Then one day, after running windows update (not sure what it was updating).  It goes to restart, shuts down.  Then I have no video.  Only a computer that appears to run fine, except no video, and one long repeating beep.
    I have
    Athlon Xp 64 bit 3000+
    MSI K8n Neo Platinum
Kingston HyperX 512mb (I have 2 modules but switch out 1 at a time in the spirit of troubleshooting)

  • What does it mean when I try to start my old iMac and I get a beep beep beep that sounds like a truck backing up?

I have an iMac that was running Lion, and everything just died. I tried to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the operating system, but now when I boot I get a beep beep beep that sounds like a truck backing up. What is wrong?

    How many beeps?
1 tone, repeating every 5 seconds: This indicates no RAM is installed.
3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity check.
1 long tone while holding down the power button: Indicates an EFI ROM update is in progress on a computer manufactured before 2012.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones: Indicates EFI ROM corruption is detected and the computer is in EFI ROM recovery mode.

  • IMac responds to power-up with "beep-beep-beep-pause" repeat.

When I push the power button to power up my iMac (early 2009; 24"/2.66GHz/4GB) it responds with a series of beeps with the pattern of "beep-beep-beep-pause" and repeats until I power it down. The fan turns on, but I can't detect any other response. Does anyone know what this means?
    Thanks...

  • K9VGM-V only knows one tune now....Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep

Hi All, hope someone can give me some help here...coz I am out of ideas
Sorry for the long post but here's the whole sad story  :(
Out of general good fellowship and fraternal feelings I offered to swap my little brother's PC into a better case. (Actually a slightly older case, but when new it was an HP-branded desktop and had good quiet fans and a nicer general finish.)
Swapped everything into the new (old) case. Put an Arctic Freezer 64Pro HS on. Fan controller too. One DVD-writer. Lookin' good......
The PC ran happily for about 4 hours. Installed some apps, did some first-person-shooting so it was a good 'run in'. No problems, not hot temps, it was all sweet.
Then I decide I better flash the BIOS - its still v1.0. (Why didn't I just leave it alone??)
MSI Update takes me through updating to 1.5. But when it gets to the end I get a 'fail' error message in WinFlash. Try again...same message.
OK, bad BIOS update download or whatever, but I made a BIOS recovery floppy. So no worries. So I will reboot and see...
Only I dont see, because there is no video. Although the system powers on with no POST errors. Fans and drives spin. But no video from either x1600 or onboard.
(BTW after some swapping of leads using a laptop we establish the monitor is fine too.)
But I can't revert to the BIOS disk without a boot. I insert the BIOS backup floppy disk and power on - but the floppy light never comes on, it's not reading it.
Out of ideas I decide a CMOS reset is the way back to a booting PC. Well that's where my problems really started.
Now all I get is continuous long-ish beep tones when I power on. According to MSI website this means 'possible memory error'.
    So -
Swapped out the existing RAM for some DDR-II 800. Same beepity-beeps.
Tried the PSU from the old case. Same. (I know the current PSU is low-spec but there's not a lot of extra cards and stuff. It's +12v/14A -12v/0.8a +5V/25A +3.3/18A. And anyway I got the same beeps with the old PSU too)
Removed entire mobo and ran it outside case with only memory and cpu and onboard video. Same continuous long beeps. Man I am getting to hate those beeps.
Now I would suspect a hardware fault and a dead mobo and/or cpu at this point....
But - it ran for hours with no issues. Until I did a failed BIOS Flash (no video), then a CMOS reset (beep beep beep).
So the sequence of events leads me to blame the BIOS update and/or CMOS reset for this......
So has the CMOS reset somehow blown the mobo? (What??  ???) Or has it somehow removed support for the CPU and/or memory? Which ran fine at BIOS 1.0......
NB - Sorry I don't know the brand of RAM I have - it's definitely 'value' brand. 1GB-DDR2-533. Sticker also says 'N60912BEROI'. (But as I say - I tried some DDR-2 PC6400 Patriot too - which should be supported? - with same POST error. So it's not the RAM...?)
If anyone can help that would be great. Even if I KNEW the mobo was dead - I could buy a new replacement. But I dont want to buy & plug in a new mobo - and hear 'beeep.....beeep....beeep.....'
    Thanks in advance!

    hey thanks bosskiller!!
Free BIOS chip is even better than £15 BIOS chip!
I will drop MSI-Europe an email and see what gives.
Anyone know how to get the exact build and revision of this mobo?
    I can see " K9VGM-V NI996 MS7253 VER 1.0 " on the board, and "W7253 VMS100" on the BIOS chip.
Is that all the info MSI will need to send me a new chip?
    Thanks!
"Free BIOS chip is even better than £15 BIOS chip!  "
Well its a service offered by MSI, you have to pay for service and transportation i guess. but will be some small(minimum) tax.
Just mail them to known more details.
    "I can see " K9VGM-V NI996 MS7253 VER 1.0 " on the board,"
    that info is enough.

  • The audio goes BEEP BEEP BEEP instead of playing the soundtrack

Hello again, from me who am still a newbie.
I have some footage taken on a different camera from mine, in DV not HD fomat, PAL still, which was imported using iMovie 08 and which plays happily in that sw. In FCE when I play it in the viewer it's all fine. If I select a part, and put it on the timeline, and then play bthe timeline I get BEEP BEEP BEEP instead of hearing the people speaking, as I can in the viewer.
    What am I doing wrong?
Secondly- if I may - once I can hear the voices and not the beeps, I need to rip out the soundtrack and convert it to mp3. What would be the best way to do this?
    TIA

First I'd try rendering the audio. Sequence -> Render All -> Audio. But, if you're going to be working with the audio track, you should make the file match FCE's needs.
Now, that you ask, I don't think I've ever done this. I just did a quick test and this worked for me. De-link the audio and video tracks by clicking the small green chain icon on the right side of the timeline. It's just above the video tracks. Then single click the audio track you want to work one. From the File -> Export -> Quicktime movie. Name your file. Then open the file in Audacity and save it as a 48,000 Hz AIFF file. Back in FCE, import and place the audio track where you need it.
I did not try this, but I think it'll work if you have FCE version 3.5 and Soundtrack. From the file menu, export as a Soundtrack file. Make the changes in Soundtrack and the file should be automatically changed in FCE.

Since you are covered by warranty, I would take it to your nearest Apple store immediately. There might be a problem with the RAM. And, you have 14 days to return the machine, so if it is not an easy fix, you might want to consider returning it for another machine.

  • KT3 ultra2 going BEEP BEEP BEEEEP BEEP!

I dont know if anyone looked at my other thread or not about memory problems, but i think its something else now.
its a hit and miss when i turn my computer on, it will turn on properly or go BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEP BEEP BEEP till i turn it off in the back.
weird thing is after i reset the power in the back, it works again.
Once in windows though, everything is perfect. no errors in memtest, can loop 3dmark, can do 3 hours of burn in test and play all sorts of games. I can even leave the computer on all day and night with ZERO problems.
the problem only happens when i first turn the computer on.
    any ideas?
    My sig: KT3 ultra2, 2x512meg pc3200 shikaram, 9700pro, 160gig maxtor, 56k modem, Lan card, SBlive5.1,

i wrote my new sig below my problem.. ignore the sig in my profile pls.
to add to this problem, sometimes when it boots up, there is a blank screen and the HDD led stays on with no beeps at all.
seems like my computer doesnt like cold boots anymore. I have to cycle the power in the back and reset a few times in order to get it to work.
i wonder if its the motherboard?
also sometimes when i boot up, all i see is the AMI bios picture and nothing else. other times when i boot up, all i see is the bios screen for the video card. go figure
anyone else think its the motherboard or the power supply? PS is about 3 yrs old and mobo is about 3 yrs old as well.. everything else in system is pretty much new
