Long delay before mail received sound

When I check my mail it may take nearly two minutes before the mail sound chimes after mail is received. For example, today when checking mail I got one short email. I saw the white progress bar at the bottom of the screen and the message that Mail was downloading one email. It was almost a full two minutes after that before the the mail sound chimed and the spinning wheel at the top of the page stopped. I usually have time to download, read and discard my email before the mail chime sounds. This was never the case on my 3GS running iOS 3. I now have the iPhone 4 running iOS 4.0.2. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is Apple aware of it? Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? Thanks.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • When I type there's a long delay before the letters show up on the screen. Also when I backspace it goes crazy and erases entire sentences

This began several days ago and seems to be a problem in Firefox. I did download an update recently but don't thjink the problem developped simultaneously. When I used the computer's feature of resetting the computer to a prior day (May 19, before the update) I could not get Firefox to open at all. So I undid the reset but typing in Firefox is very difficult due to the extremely long delay in the letters I'm typing showing up.

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Intermittent very long delay before login available

    Windows 7 64 - SP1 fully updated.
I have a few remaining Windows 7 desktops in my Domain.  Ocassionally (have not found a pattern) the user will boot up the computer or come back from lunch and try to unlock their computer.  The computer will go to a blank blue screen but no username
or password field will display.  The mouse is responsive.   After a very long delay the credential fields will display and the user can log in.  This delay can be 20 mins or more.   This seems to happen to the same computers but
only occasionally.  Sometimes a forced reboot is required.  After reboot the system usually works as expected.
When searching for this issue and resolutions to it, I don't seem to find this exact issue - or I am not wording it correctly in a search.
If this happened consistently, I would probably repair, or wipe and restore the system.   I am not seeing anything in the event log that would be related.
I look forward to your advice.
    Fred Zilz

    Hi Fred,
Since the delay occurred before your input the credential. It's not related with domain.
Let's aim at the Windows 7 computer itself. Generally, it should be the winlogon process cannot load successfully.
    Did you use Aero theme?
If yes, try disabling the Aero theme and use the Windows 7 Basic layout.
Meanwhile, logon with the local administrator and perform a clean boot to see if there is some other service conflict:

  • 790GX-G65 long delay before POST

Hi there, when I turn my comp on there is a long delay, about 20 seconds or so, until it POSTs. There is a flashing cursor on the top left corner of the screen in the meantime. Afterwards it will boot up as normal and is stable. However, if I reboot the system there is no delay, it only happens when I shut down and then turn it on.
    Specs:
    Phenom II X4 810 2.6GHz
    4GB (2x 2GB) Corsair XMS3 1066 (unganged)
    GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB
BIOS is the latest version - v1.6
I browsed these forums but the other posts I found were about systems not POSTing at all. This seems to be a different problem.
    Thanks.

Don't forget to clear CMOS after the BIOS update, with the power cable unplugged first of course.
How did you go about updating BIOS?
    What PSU have you got?
If you have a different graphics card to try you should do so.
I updated via USB M-Flash and I did a CMOS reset.
My PSU is a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 470W
The only other graphics card I have is the on-board one, the rest are AGP.

  • Long delay before connecting to internet

When i try inserting the ethernet cable to get internet, the internet works only after about 2-5 mins or so. When i boot windows, win 7 is immediately able to surf the internet once i put my ethernet wire in. ethernet wire is connected to the router. Is this long delay a normal thing?

On the Mac go to System Preferences->Network pane and at the top of the pane use the "Location" drop=down to make a new custom Location (calling it whatever you want). Then in the right hand of the pane hit the 'Apply button.
Something that you have done has messed up you Network settings on the network. making this new Location will let you start fresh on the network again.

  • Long delays in mail delivery to mailboxes when msg is recieved at server

Mail arrives at Exchange server we know this because we have logging turned on, but the mail appears to go into limbo for anything up to 2 hours before it gets delivered to users mail box,  there is no difference between outlook client or if the
user logs on using owa, the email is not shown.  when exchange does decide which it does it will deliver all messages it has received in one go so all show up with in 30 seconds at the same time in users in box.  we have put on the recent Exchange
SP1 hopping this would solve the issue, the server is brand new and has 2tb of storage available  CPU is hardly doing anything.  all other aspects of server are normal file shares printing etc.  Just mail delivery is VERY VERY slow and then
    it all comes at once.
We have tried restarting the server some times this does help other occasions it makes not difference.  server has I3-3420 cpu with 16gb ram.  This is driving us bonkers please can some body give us some guidance as what to do check or alter.
    Thanks in advance.
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
I recommend you to do few testing to narrow-down the root cause
Does this mail delivery getting delayed only for  external users or its both for internal and external users ?
How many Exchange servers  you have ? Is this a combination of HUB & CAS together if its 2013 or you have them Separately?
Do you have any antispam configured in your environment ?
Is there any antivirus installed in the exchange servers?
I would recommend you to run Get-TransportAgent and see the list of transport agents installed on your Exchange servers
As a part of testing i would suggest you to disable all the transport agents installed on the servers disable antivirus send a test email and check if the delay is happening or not . Also disable the exchange antispam if its installed and see if the mail

  • Long delay before returning to menu

I've made several movies and burned them using iDVD in the past, but I've never had this problem. After the movie is done playing, it takes at least a good minute to two minutes for the main menu to come back up. Any idea what is wrong or how to fix it?

It sounds like you miight have some extra space at the end of your movie. Sometimes a stray fragment of audio or video left over from editing gets located down the time line from the end of your movie. They can be tiny and hard to see. The movie will then play out with a dark screen until it reaches the "end" at that stray fragment, before returning to the menu. Expand your time line as wide as it will go and do a careful search for any such fragments and delete them.
Also, if you have music that has been muted but extends out past the end of your movie, the dark screen will play out until the end of the muted song before switching back to the menu.
Although unlikely, for some reason you may have left an extra long black clip at the end of your movie. (It happened to me once,)
If none of the above resolves your problem, try using the search function of this forum. I have seen your issue come up a lot.

  • Xi3 box LONG delay before the remote works

When I turn on my TV in the bedroom, it takes nearly 3 minutes before the box responds to any commands.  Guide, channel change, etc...  Nothing happens for several minutes.  Once it finally responds, it then works fine, but it should not take this long before anything happens.  I rebooted and nothing was fixed.  I just got this box installed yesterday too.  ANy idea what is going on?

  • Long delay before Distiller builds PDF

    Frame 8.0p277
    Acrobat 9.0
Windows 7 64-bit with tons of RAM and processor speed
When I build a PDF, Distiller starts but does nothing for 4-5 minutes before it starts creating the PDF file. The PDF files then take much, much longer to build than they take on my slower local machine (which has the same application versions and OS).
Has anyone seen this behavior before? I tried reinstalling Acrobat, but this did not fix the problem.
    Thanks,
    Karen

Thanks for the replies. Leaving Distiller open does not solve the problem, alas.
    Here's what happens:
A tps file is created right away - size = 0.
5-30 minutes later (depending on the size of the PDF), the pdf file is created.
In the interim, Distiller closes itself, and when it reopens, it creates the pdf in seconds..
These are relatively small FrameMaker books with all graphics imported by reference (jpg's).
There are 17 books. They used to take 12 minutes to build. Now it takes almost 2 hours.
I've tried everything suggested in the following posts:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2468265
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/528/cpsid_52868.html
I use Save As PDF. Printing a ps file takes just as long.
    I'm running FM8p277 on Win 7 64-bit. Acrobat 9.

  • Long Delay Before Web Pages Start to Load, Then Load Suddenly Normally

I've been experiencing some problems with my internet connection here for the past couple of days.
This article from Apple support sums the problem up as far as I can tell: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106799
"This document discusses two causes of a situation in which a delay occurs before Web pages begin to load, followed suddenly by page loading at normal speed. The same delay may also be noticed for TCP/IP applications other than Web browsers."
However, their solution does not work. My DNS Servers box is empty as I have no DNS server to put in there (should I? I don't recall ever having anything there). The article is lacking in the fact that it doesn't explain what we should do if we don't have anything in that box (or we don't know what to put).
I did not change any settings before this started happening. The only thing I did was install Opera. I tried uninstalling Opera and the problem didn't go away. It happens on Opera, Firefox, and Safari. I can't for the life of me figure this out. I have even re-flashed my router firmware just to see if that was the problem, and nothing.
Any help would be nice. Thanks!

  • Long delay before sleep

My Mac Pro when going to sleep take a few minutes or longer until I actually hear the thing click and power down.  The screen shuts right off and the power light pulses like normal as soon as sleep is selected, but the system is still doing something.  It won't wake back up until I hear the click and the fans shut off.
If I hit a key while it's in the processes, it'll sit there until I hear it power down and immidiatly wakes back up, so I know it's not going into deep sleep.  I've check for stuff stuck in the print queue and it's blank.
I'm not an expert on terminal stuff, but I can follow instruction if there's thing I can check.  I just don't know where to begin.
Also, I noticed this started right after installing OS 10.8.  I never had this problem with 10.7.x.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.
