Long delay repairing a macbook air

Hello to everyone, I live in Argentina. Last september my 2012 MacBook Air crashed.
I tried everything and nothing worked.
The SSD was dead.
I first talked over the phone with  an authorized reseller and repairing service (MaximSoft) and they advised me to go to other service because they were only taking machines sold by them (I got mine in the US). I explained that my AppleCare was active but the no was the same. The repair service is only for their customers.
Talked with ohter one, MacStation and they kindly took my MBA although they advised me to go to Uruguay or Chile for repair (and the best option in their words was the States).
Of course I say no (actually I said it was ridiculous) and left the machine there.
They told me to wait but I've been waiting for the last 4 months without news and now they are saying that they don't know when the new SSD will be there to fix it.
I know that the customs office here is difficult but I also know that things works more or less Ok.
Really, I don't know what else to do.
Does anyone know how to change this long wait?

Not at this point. What I don't understand is why you didn't contact Apple support straight away. Now it's up to you and your solicitor to get that company to return (they aren't likely to repair it - not if they couldn't in 4 mos) the laptoop. and then, contact Apple Support and send them the machine.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

  • Why it takes a long time for my MacBook Air to turn on?

I brought my MacBook Air at a Power Mac Center to fix vertical lines on the screen. The vertical lines were removed. But since then, when I turn on my laptop, it takes a long time before it actually turns on. Sometimes, after pressing the power button, something seems to run at the upper left corner of the keyboard (near the power adapter) but it takes me practically hours before it actually turns on.
And when it is turned on already, I observed some unusual behaviors happening:
    - Sometimes, while it is turned on, the battery status in the menu bar looks operating normally, but after a while, the trackpad will no longer work until the battery status says, "No Battery Available" and "Power source: Power Adapter".
    - Sometimes, several horizontal lines appear on the screen then after a while the laptop will hang up.
    - Sometimes, the sound sounds abnormal then after a while the sound no longer operates, and when I check the Sound at the System Preferences, it says, "No input devices found"
    - Several applications do not work anymore, like Calendar, TextEdit, Reminder, Facetime, Preview and others.
Please help me figure out the problem. I cannot use my laptop as regular as before. I can no longer catch up with paper work deadlines because of these problems.

Please, help me. I need an immediate response so I could try to fix the problem because I need to use my laptop right away. Pls help.

  • HT1338 my iphone and ipad are no longer syncing to my macbook air

I dont know why I can no longer sync my iphone and ipad to my macbook air. It is a recent change - sometime during January. Any ideas?

Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
    (1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
    (2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
    (3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
    and
    (4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.

  • Repair a macbook air screen

I'm based in Amsterdam and my 11" macbook air screen is cracked quite badly. Please can you let me know how I can go about getting it repaired?

To have the unit repaired, you need to take it to an Authorized Apple Service facility. I understand that there is an actual Apple Store in Amsterdam. That would be your first stop.
    Here are some other options.

  • How can you repair a MacBook air when it won't start properly?

My MacBook Air is just over 3 years old and thus out of warranty.
It gives a message that says the Preference Pane cannot be opened. Mostly the screen is black but sometimes (oddly) Adobe Bridge has a window ... but I cannot move to any other application.
    1) is Genius Bar only available if your product is under warranty?
    2) is there no way to check it? No recovery shows up when I option-restart.
Advice would be appreciated. the closest Apple store is an hour away.

Backup your files. If you have a 2010 model that came with a set of two software discs then do the following:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. If you wish to upgrade to a later version of OS X, then do so on the App Store.
If you have the 2011 model then do this:
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Downloads and Desktop no longer exist on my Macbook Air

    Hello -
I am at a loss as to the issues I have been facing on my Macbook Air - OSX 10.9.5.  I have been experiencing a slew of issues, which I think may be symptomatic of something larger...  Here are a list of issues I have found so far:
    1. I have no downloads folder.  Under Finder, there is an icon for Downloads and Desktop but they are not folders and when I doubleclick on them, I get a popup that says "The operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Downloads” can’t be found."  Same thing with Desktop.
    2. I cannot save anything to my desktop.  The error reads "You do not have permissions to save files where screenshots (or whatever file) is saved."
    3. I cannot download files.  I really need to launch and download GoToMeeting, but each time I try, it gives me the error "Unarchive File has Failed."
    4. I don't have Flash capabilities, even though I do have flash on my laptop.
I have talked with Apple Tech Help 2xs - they advised me to reinstall OSX. I did that, this did not solve the problem.  I then erased my disk utility, after backing up, and reinstalled OSX.  Still, no resolution to my problems.
Any ideas on what could be happening?
    Thanks so very much,
      Bea

  • My 1TB Toshiba External Hardrive no longer works on my MacBook Air

I got a 1TB Toshiba External Hardrive and had no problems with it and added some pictures and everything to it however no it no longer works, or even shows up in the devices when i plug it in. I Saw that some others had the same problem and can't even find where they suggested to go to try and change it to read and right.

Not that I can tell. Suspiciously, we did run a salvo of updates from Software Update and the problems started immediately after, but none of those appeared to be directly related to Airport functionality (firmware or otherwise). Just to be sure, I took the "safe" steps of repairing permissions, re-downloading the last combo update & re-applying it. I also searched for any firmware updates related to Airport. What's odd to me is that the firmware reported on her machine is different than that on mine. They're both Late 2006 Macbook models, so that strikes me as odd (but maybe it isn't). I wasn't able to find any updates that her Macbook was lacking, however.
My (working) firmware is: [type] AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87), [version] 1.4.8.0
Her (not-working) firmware is: [type] AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87), [version] 1.4.4
Based on the card type, it doesn't appear that they're different chipsets, so I'm not at all clear on why the firmware versions differ. Was there a firmware update for Leopard that wasn't available/needed for Tiger?
Also, I know for sure that there were no firmware updates performed during the last set of updates ... that's a more involved process, if I recall, not handled through the standard updater, I think.
    Thanks for the response!

  • Long Delay When Putting MacBook in Sleep Mode

My 2 year old MacBook has recently started to take quite a bit of time to go into sleep mode. If I select sleep under the apple menu, it takes about 45-50 seconds for the screen to turn off. I can hear the computer running during this time - when the sound stops, the screen goes off and the sleep light begins blinking. In the past, my screen would go off immediately after selecting sleep mode. If I close it to launch it into sleep mode, the same thing happens - the sleep light doesn't start blinking for 45-50 seconds. I checked the Activity Monitor and nothing else is running that could cause the delay. Any thoughts?

You should check the "Disk Activity" section of the Activity Monitor to see if there is a lot of disk activity occurring. Most likely, the delay is it copying the RAM contents to the hard drive. It may be otherwise but this would be my best guess.

  • MacBook Air running Bootcamp getting ACPI errors in Windows

We have a number of MacBook Air 13" mid-2014 A1466 models running Bootcamp with Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise.
(We image them with Windows & Bootcamp, no Mac OS X partition)
We are using latest Bootcamp 5.1.5640 drivers
They work fine for most applications.
We are regularly getting ACPI errors
The error in Windows System log is
    Source: ACPI
Description: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeoutperiod. This may indicate there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.
The error we are seeing is when a user is logged into a Windows domain it should pass the Windows password to other applications like Outlook, Lync, etc. Instead, on these Macs, they regularly prompt for the Windows password to re-connect to the source. We don't get this issue with normal Windows PCs.
Also booting has a slight delay of around 10 seconds before Windows begins loading. Don't this delay with older MacBook Airs.
Have looked at repairing Bootcamp drivers. EFI & SMC looks up to date, had to use Mac boot USB to check this info.

    VikingBrad wrote:
Just re-reading my post and I was unclear. Yes we do use EFI and boot directly into Windows.
    This is good to know.
The Windows partition is joined to an AD domain and logs in fine with AD credentials.
The only problem being that when we open Outlook or Lync or other apps that require AD authentication the user is prompted for their AD credentials.
We have cleared Credential Manager in Windows, tried different users with no success. It works with older MacBooks and Windows PC. Seems to just be these latest MacBook Air 2014 models with the issue. After user re-enters AD credentials they can connect to Outlook, etc.
This may be a bit off-topic, but Macs do not "officially" support Enterprise versions of Windows. Can I suggest using a test 2014 MBA, installing W7/W8 64-bit, and configuring for AD authentication and testing. Are there any known DNS issues on this Macs? In all the applications which do not function correctly, does the username show up correctly populated, when prompted for login?
The only error we see in Event log is the ACPI error so suspect it is related. But we have latest Bootcamp drivers from Apple perhaps we are off track.
If the user successfully enters credentials when prompted for say, Outlook, and the computer is made to sleep or hibernate, is the connection to Outlook/Lync still up if the timeout for sessions (if any) has not yet expired and the computer is woken up?
It may also be worthwhile to look for requests being made for authentication before the applications prompt the user for credentials.
