Long distance in local calling area

I have set up some Skype to go numbers in my calling area and some of them are working but when I dial others Bell Canada says the number is a long distance number.  Is there any way to chose the number (ie 613 927 XXXX or 613 434 XXXX) instead of it being automatically assigned?  ANy help would be appreciated!

a STG number is mapped to a single target number, and that number must always be entered in international dialing format (i.e. exactly the same way you would dial it if you were wanting to call it using SkypeOut on any Skype client)

Neil

  • ANOTHER Step BACKWARDS - NO, You CANNOT SEE Your LOCAL Calling Area ONLINE !!

Why check your LOCAL calling area? TO SAVE Yourself MONEY. If you can check the calling area quickly, you can tell if it will be a TOLL CALL. Sure, this is not an issue depending on your calling plan. It is to a lot of folks like me; and you may be calling from a different phone at times.
Up until at least January 2008 you could EASILY determine your LOCAL CALLING AREA on Verizon's website by entering your phone number. The link WAS
    http://www22.verizon.com/CallingAreas/localCallFinder/LocalExchangesList.htm , but NO MORE.
I SUSPECT it was discontinued because Verizon realized that by making a MONEY-SAVING 'device'
easily available was NOT GOOD FOR THE BOTTOM LINE.
I went thru all of Verizon's hoops to get an answer, but they have their roadblocks firmly planted.
Their is A LOT OF JUSTIFICATION for CONSUMER REPORTS to give its highest ratings to Verizon's SERVICES...... WHILE AT THE SAME TIME RATING THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE "DREADFUL".

    Hi GimmieDps,
I'm sorry you are having difficulty with your calls from home. I have escalated your concern and an agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • What Prefixes Are Included In My Local Calling Area?

I am in the former GTE service territory, specifically, the Elsinore Main California exchange.
On Friday, December 11, 2009, I spoke with a service representative and a supervisor (who admitted that she was "filling-in" and is really an hourly employee), who are in the soon to be divested Everett, WA call center.
I was calling to find out what prefixes are included as part of my local calling area, specifically ZUM 1 AND ZUM 2 (some also call it Zone 1 and Zone 2, but the correct designation in most southern California service areas of Verizon is ZUM).
Both representatives had no idea what a "ZUM" is, and the "supervisor" said she had never heard of the term ZUM or Zone.
What made me upset is that I was told that they (Verizon) did not have this information, and I would have to contact the CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) to obtain this information as Verizon's staff would not have it.
My reply was how would Verizon not have the information, because they would need the ZUM prefix list for each exchange so they could bill correctly.
I then asked how does Verizon gather all the calls that are made from their exchanges each month and send this data to the CPUC so that Verizon can then determine if the call is ZUM 1, ZUM 2, ZUM 3 or intralata or interlata?
The "supervisor", said yes, because Verizon would not know what prefixes are included, and relies upon the CPUC to review the calls from Verizon's exchanges and prefixes so that Verizon can bill their customers each month, and this has been the process for many years (according to the "supervisor").
I kid you not, this what was said to me by the Verizon representatives, and I shoulld have advised the employees that I was recording the call. It would have been a great play for You Tube. What a bunch of (edit)  from these two Verizon call center representatives!
I'm glad Verizon is divesting the Everett call center along with other assets to Frontier, as people like these should not be employed by Verizon, in fact, they should be terminated for cause. Good luck to Frontier with the Everett call center.
Using Verizon's web site when trying to determine what prefixes are in my local calling area (ZUM 1 AND ZUM 2), you are directed to use the following two "very helpful" (my words...lol) links for information...please try for yourselves:
To obtain Local Calling Area information
    http://www22.verizon.com/Content/CommonTemplates/sorry.html
    Zone Usage Measurement (ZUM) Information
    https://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/Phone/Calling+Plans/Local+And+Regional+Calling+Plans/Gener...
Great Information Verizon!! Both are dead links.
Anyway, point me in the direction where I can obtain the current and accurate prefixes that can be called without charge to ZUM 1 and ZUM 2, and with a charge to ZUM 3 for my exchange and prefixes. DO NOT point me to a white pages directory because that is already outdated (and I do not have a white pages directory).
Again, my exchange is Elsinore Main, and the prefixes are 951-245 and 951-674.
    Thank you.

  • Local Calling Area

Why, with all the technology Verizon so proudly touts in all its commercials, can we not find out our local calling area on the web site? Instead, we're directed to go look it up in the paper phone book. Give me a break. It's all stored away in a database somewhere and it's really a no-brainer to allow access to it. Honestly, that is just completely lame in this day and age.

Thats a great idea! This would be a perfect candidate for the Verizon Idea Exchange. Please search on the idea exchange and cast your vote. There may be another member who made the same suggestion. If not, please add a new idea so your fellow community members can comment and vote on your suggestion. http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-Idea-Exchange/ct-p/ideaexchange . • LOCAL CALLING AREA FOR HOME PHONE (landline)

Verizon has not resolved my issue with my ability to call ONE of my LOCAL CALLING AREAS.  They have passed me NUMEROUS times over and over to many different problems and have not resolved anything.  They say they cannot hold on the line while they wait for a supervisor, I keep hearing i will be called back, and do not get any calls back.  They "say" they are working with me and a supervisor, and yet still nothing.  I contacted the Local Access Transport Area (LATA) and have been told that the numbers I am trying to reach ARE local. Also, I have NEVER had any problems reaching these numbers in the past and ALL OF A SUDDEN 1 out of the 7 local calling areas I cannot call. The local calling area HAS NOT changed and never will according to LATA.  One of the reps had the nerve to tell me that another of the "local calling areas" I have is regional, so I had to burst her lil "tell me anything to shut me up" bubble, that she was not gonna feed me that line of **bleep** seeing how I just got off the phone with someone in that area.  Verizon seems to be feeding me a lot of **bleep** to try and silence me or so they dont have to try and figure this out. (cause apparently they cant) I have been dealing with this for over a week, many Reps, many repair techs and NOTHING. The repair Techs (automated recording) calls me back and says We cannot find the problem but your line is working properly.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!  DUH!  NOW, I have no choice but to contact Consumer Affairs and file a complaint, and I have also been advised to contact the BBB and local television station so that they can run a story.  WHAT TO DO NOW!!!

  • No long distance dialing for common area phones

What's the best method step by step of limiting common area phones to local dialing only and blocking long distance?

The step by step would be to create a voice policy, pstn usage, and route with those restrictions, then assign it to the common area phones.  Then, assign the voice policy to the phones and test.  What you're attempting to do is actually quite
    common.
I made a handy tool to assign policies to common area phones if it helps:

  • Atlantic City, NJ and New York, NY calling area

I have search the Internet for this and have not had any real luck.
What is the local calling area for Atlantic City, NJ and New York, NY, that will not occur long distance charges.
Mainly for Atlantic City, I'm worried about if Ocean City, Wildwood, and Ventnor City are all included or not.
For New York, NY, I just need to know if the whole city local, I would assume, but New York, is setup completely different than most cities I've seen, with 5 boroughs in a city and it being fairly large with multiple area codes.
Also, all this would be the exact same at a Verizon or possibly others payphone as well as just a Verizon landline correct?

Same thing happened to me. It doesn't even matter if you ask explicitly for the weather in NYC.
I asked for the weather in "New York City" and got the results for New York, TX.
I then asked for the weather in "New York City, New York" and got the same results for New York, TX.
Than I asked "What is the weather today in New York City in the state of New York?" and got the weather for New York, TX.
I asked for "Manhattan, New York" and got the weather for TX.
But when I asked for the weather in Brooklyn... I got the weather for Brooklyn, OH.
    Pretty impressive.

  • International Long Distance Value Plan

I'm trying to confirm that the International Long Distance Value Plan (calling Canada = $5.00 monthly access charge, $0.01/min for landline and mobile) can be added to a ALLSETS prepaid plan. I'm hoping to setup a prepaid plan in the next few days. I had talked to a Verizon rep on the phone and they had said that this plan cannot be added to a prepaid plan. I had chatted via the online chat with a rep who said that it is possible to do this. International Prepaid Phones & Plans - Verizon Wireless is where I saw this Long Distance plan. So who/what is correct?

I just chatted with another rep online. Additional funds must be made available on the Prepaid account before using the International Long Distance Value Plan. So for a smartphone, it would be the $45 for the ALLSETS plan, plus $5 for the access fee, plus however much more funds are added to use the per min. charge to make the international long distance call.
The other option would be to go with the plan that offers 1000 mins. for $10/month (calling Canada).

  • Facetime works local but not long distance

i have been using facetime for 2 years.  Last week (soon after upgrade 8.2)  my service became intermitant.  it works locally,  but long distances it is ringing but no one is answering...
I am using airport extreme....so not sure if its extreme or something else causing this...

chris,  thanks so much but i think it has to do with port somehow.
since i am out of the us it works fine in where i am at,  but trying to get to the us in just rings off the hook and no one can pickup....so it gets a notification that the call is coming through but ends at that point.....and i am just pushing voice only not video.
other people where i am at use facetime and are able to talk to people in the US...I have been doing so until 1 week ago,  when i downloaded 8.2   Thanks for your reply looking forward to understanding what else i can do......
ps already installed firmware in extreme...but didn't solve the issue.

  • Long Distance Calling & Voice-over IP

If I am running my blackberry thru my wireless router, can I make long distance calls for free? I heard that if you're in a foreign country and you hook into wifi that your calls are free as well...true?

    UMA = Unlimited Mobile Access.
Yes, if you have UMA on your device, if you are in, say Germany, and you have a WiFi connection and UMA on the screen, when you make a call to anywhere, in this case pretend you are calling back to the USA.
The call is made via WiFi/UMA, and the call is connected to a router for the WiFi network you are on, and then direct back to a Tmobile network center in the USA. Then the call is connected to your party via the normal phone network. Because the call now "originates" from the Tmobile service center in the USA, the call is a local in-nation call.
Say you are in Germany, and you call Japan. Same story, the call orginiates from the Tmo service center in the US, and you are charged for a US --> Japan call, rather than Germany > Japan, which in most cases can be advantageous for your rates.

  • Unlimited calls in Mexico, includes long distance ...

    Hello,
I'm wondering if the Unlimited calls plan to Mexico include calls to long distance cell phones (045).
    http://skype.com/intl/en-us/prices/subscriptions/new-unlimited-plans-mexico-russia-brazil?intcmp=ch1...
That would be amazing and would sign up immediatly for years to come.

    Thank you for your reply.
I forgot to ask on my first post if the Unlimited calls plan includes all cities in Mexico, or is the plan limited to certain cities (Mexico, Monterrey, etc)?
    Thanks again.
There are 4 different "unlimited" subscriptions for Mexico, so you would want to be careful in purchasing the right one...
    1. The "Unlimited Mexico Cities" subscription at US$ 6.99/month only covers calls to landline phones in the 3 largest Mexican cities: Mexico City (+52 55), Guadalajara (+52 33), and Monterrey (+52 81). Calls to landline phones outside these 3 area codes, along with calls to any Mexican mobile phone, would have to be paid for with Skype Credit.
    2. The "Unlimited North America" subscription at US$ 7.99/month covers calls to landline phones in the 3 largest Mexican cities listed above, along with all landline and mobile phones in the USA and Canada.  Calls to landline phones in other parts of Mexico, along with any Mexican mobile phone, would have to be paid for Skype Credit.
    3. The "Unlimited Mexico" subscription for landline phones at US$ 19.99/month covers calling to all landline phones in Mexico, not just those in the 3 big cities.  You would still need Skype Credit to cover calls to Mexican mobile phones with this subscription.
    4. The "Unlimited Mexico" subscription for landline and mobile phones at US$ 59.99/month covers calls to all landline and mobile phones throughout Mexico.
Note that calls to Mexican toll-free numbers (those advertised as 01-800 numbers in Mexico) are not possible with Skype.  For these numbers, most operators of Mexican toll-free numbers will offer a non-free number as an alternative - usually for those in and around Mexico City at a local Mexico City landline number (+52 55).  All subscriptions have a fair-use policy.  You can click on "Subscriptions" at the bottom of this page and enter Mexico as the desired country, then you can switch between landline-only subscriptions and those for both landlines and mobiles.  You can also change the currency, if you want to see prices other than US dollars as I've listed them or in euros (the default currency used on that page).
    Hope that helps!

  • Local to Long Distance Numbers ???

I'm a commercial pilot and always on the road. All my local numbers do not have 1's in front of them, all my long distance numbers do. On my old phone i could select a number and then there was an option to add a 1 to the number. Is there a way to do this in the iphone without physically editing the number ? How does everyone else do it ?

In the US it's not needed - AT&T automatically doers that for outgoing calls (i.e. you can dial 1-408-555-1212 or just 408-555-1212 and the call will go through just fine).

  • ASA upgrade to 8.4.3 now branh office cant make long distance calls

We deployed 8.4.2 over the weekend and now a branch office that connects  to our core via ASA to ASA VPN tunnel is no longer able to make long  distance calls.  We are using Callmanager 4.1 and it is connected to our  core, the phones at the branch register fine and are abe to call  internal extensions, but when dialing 800 numbers and longdistance they  are not being directed to their PRI.

    Hello Stuart:
    Answers:
    1) If you have the command "NAMES" on and "NAT CONTROL" on the ASA will start creating a huge amount of object networks so they can perform the same thing that they did on 8.2 . So before doing the upgrade remove the names and the nat control feature
    no names
    no nat-control
    2) Twice nat or as you said (nat command outside of an object network) it is listed on the command reference and actually it has the highest priority when the ASA checks the NAT rules. So do NOT delete them as they are more than fine.
         A) Twice NAT
         B) Auto nat
         C) After-Auto nat
    3) That is correct but if they are from the NAT 0 with acl from 8.2 versions should be:
         nat (inside,outside) source static A A destination static B B
    4) You are right, you do not need to use a NAT 0 with ACL in order to configure the VPN, instead you need a TWICE nat as I configured on answer 3.
Any other question..Sure.. Just remember to rate all of the answers.

My iphone keeps resetting while i'm on long distance calls. It works perfectly while i'm on local calls but for some reason it resets itself if i'm talking to my family, who live about 4hrs away. It cuts out mid convo (i lose the call) and displays the apple in the middle of the screen for about 30secs then goes back to a locked screen as if nothing had happened. Has anyone else experienced this????
