Long Documents-page numbering that moves if page position changes

Is there a way to mark a selection of text, i.e.
(See map on page 126.)
so that if the page that it is on, say it moves to page 127, the page number changes?
Also, what would it be called, in order to search for it in documentation, and for future reference?

I noticed in the sidebar “More Like This” that someone had addressed something that seemed similar in “set marker in book docs and refer to current page number of marker” and they referred to the top page below, but I was reviewing the bottom link on Cross References:

First of all, there is no need to put the entire text of your post into the title of your thread.
Next, does your daughter have an iPhone? Do her friends have iPhones? If the answer to both questions is "yes", then it is possible she is not texting them, but using iMessage to communicate with them. iMessages will not show up in the texting traffic on a line as they are not texts, but messages sent thru Apple's servers.
For all "texts" to show up in the texting activity of an iPhone, you must disable iMessage on the device. Any messages sent as iMessages(blue bubbles around the text) on an iPhone will not show up in any texting activity.

HELP!? Remove 1 page from long document and shift all the rest pages

Hello,
I am facing to following problem:
I have a long document with facing pages. Now I need to remove one left page in the middle of the document and shift all the rest pages one step forward. It means from all right pages do a left and vice versa (started from the page that was removed). There is a continous text int the whole document and left/right strip made from different photos.
To clarify the situation I am attaching the preview. I have deleted page no.12 and I need to shift page 13 to left, 14 to right after 13, 15 to left, 16 to right after 15 and so on....
Is there any simple way how to do it?

It looks to me as if you may something else going on here. Are you using right-to-left text here so the document binding would be onthe right when the book is closed? If not, your problem is not with page 13 so much as it is with the earlier pages.
Unless you force it to do otherwise by disabling page shuffling someplace, in left-to-right documents using facing pages ID will always put odd numbered pages to the right of the spine and even to the left, the opposite for right-to-left documents. In either case, it seems like you have page shuffling disabled either for the whole file or for a selected spread. You can re-enable it from the menu in the Pages panel. When ID asks if you want to maintain the current number of pages on a spread you should probably say no. Either pages 1-12 will swtch sides, or 13 and following will, and your spreads will rearrange to put two pages together as they should be.
If you have overridden master page objects, a side effect of switching sides on the spread will be that the overridden objects will remain and the new master objects from the other side of the spread will appear behind them.

Document page numbers in pages palette?

I just jumped from CS to CS5. I work in magazine spreads most of the time and would like the pages palette to reflect my document page numbering. All I can get it to show is 1, 2, 3, etc. with 1 starting on the LEFT page of the thumbnail spread, whereas the my document spreads always start on EVEN-numbered (left) pages. I have no trouble numbering the document itself any way I want, it's just the palette. Was not a problem in CS, it always showed my document page numbers below the thumbs. Is there a menu setting I am not finding?

Can you post a screen capture of your Pages Panel (they officially became panels instead of palettes in CS4, or maybe CS3)? Use the little camera icon on the web screen to embed it in your post.
The only things that's changed significantly about the Pages Panel/Palette is the addition of page thumbnails, so if you aren't seeing page numbers that match the numbers assigned (if you are viewing section numbering rather than absolute numbering -- a preference choice), then there is something wrong with the program. Pages 3.0 crashes opening a long document

I am running Pages 3.0 (with all current updates) on an iMac with Os 10.5.7 and 2 Gb of RAM. I have a very long document (almost 200 pages) with pictures and tables that worked fine until yesterday.
I usually make a backup copy of the file every evening just to be sure, however...... it seems that it's not enough!!
This morning a double click on the document leads to a Pages 3.0 crash. The application launches, a dialog box indicating a progress bar appears ("Opening") and then Pages quits.
The same happens if I try to open the backup copy! I am stuck and I can't access the file!!!!!!!!!
Disk utility says the the hard disk is OK (and so are the privileges).
What can I do?? I can't even export the file in Word as it crashes before I can convert him. By the way, the same happens on another Mac: it really seems that the document is now corrupted (without doing anything special...).
The funny thing, is that Quicklook works just fine: if I hit the space bar from the Finder, I can see the content perfectly.
What is going on???

Simple:
The Index.xml file is no longer readable by Pages but as you saved a preview in the document this Preview.pdf file is readable.
(1) rename your doc from xx.pages to xx.pages.zip then double click.
You will get a package entitled "xx.pages"
control click it to see its contents.
In the folder Conent:Quickloock, you will get the Preview.pdf file.
(2) it would be interesting to send the document to my mail box so I would be able to add it to the set of corrupted documents which I already send to Apple Bugs Hunters to help them idntify the wrongdoers. Click my blue name to get my address.
(3) duplicating the last saved copy is good practice but it's not a true safe protocol.
If the last saved one is odd (like yours) the duplicate will be odd too.
This is why I wrote an Autosave tool which saves every ten minutes but which also keeps chronological date stamped zipped copies.
With it, if the copy saved at time X is bad, we may hope that the one saved at X-10 is OK.

My recommendation would be to check for updates (Apple menu > Software Update). If there are no updates for Pages, you should try uninstalling then reinstalling Pages.

Either get a air printer that works with this feature or use iCloud or email. Email it to an email and print it off from a computer. Or option 2- if you have your ICloud setup, go to iCloud.com. Hit iWork. Your documents will be there to print off.

Is there any way to display document page numbers and section page numbers at the same time?

Hi, I have different sections within my document starting the page numbering at 1. Besides the section page numbers I would also like to display the actual document page numbers in the header (eg. you are on page 10 of the document and page 4 of the section). Is there any way to do that? Thanks

You can maybe use the Find/Change
Command+i
See if that can work for you.
But like Steve said it is good practice to use Paragraph Style whenever you have lots of Type, I just get lazy sometimes.. lol

Using Site Content and Structure unable to move documents,pages and getting weird error message

earlier we are moving a page ,document from one site to another sub site with in the Site Collection.
Now,we are getting a un-readable format error.
After selecting the destination we are getting the error.
and the file can't move.
What might me be the error.
Expecting answers related to my question.
1.As we can do using Internet Explorer,
2. Using Send To also we can move.
Using this Site Content and structure we can maintain Versoining also.
If any one face the same issue then we can easily find out the solution.

How do you fix a problem where document pages open that are too big for the display and runs off the end of the monitor? The borders are off the monitor so there is no window edge to grab and adjust.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
