Long files are too short

I'v met this problem a few times...
I'm working on a DVD authoring.
The film is 1hour40min long.
The audiofiles I got from the 5.1 mixing studio came chopped as 6 acts (for the cinema release) so each file is aprox 17 min each. Now I need to bring all these files into Logic to merge the acts into continuous clips.
Each file for each act begins with a reference tone and silence, and they overlap, so the last seconds of act 1 are also the begining of act 2, aso. So you understand I need to have a reference to sync these to.
So, I have the stereo file, which is one continuous file, covering the whole movie... it is 1 hour 40 min long.
When I load this file onto the arrange window it shows as an audiofile only 1 beat long! But there is no problem listening to the file... I hit play, and it plays the whole file, but however I tug, pull, try to expand the file to its actual length, it will only be 1 beat long, visually.
Why is this?
I need to zoom in so I can sync the 5.1 tracks both visually and audioally.

Hi Per,
Well, it wasn't so simple really... "Bug" wasn't my first thought. Actually, I thought I was doing something wrong, and it took a while to figure out that "it wasn't me, it was the program".
Out of sheer desperation I created the shorter region as I described (desperation is the mother of invention).
When it came to working on cues for the back half of the movie, I had to repeat this operation and make a region out of the back end. That's where things got tricky.
I would suggest that you take the following steps and see if this works for you:
1. Add the audio file to the arrange window (let's say it's called "QT Audio")
2. Click on an empty area of the Arrange window and open the Event Editor
3. Look for the item called "QT Audio", double click on the position value, type 1 0 0 0, Enter.
4. Open your movie, set your SMPTE start time and check sync (for this example, let's say that your time code starts at 01:00:00:00.00
5. Open the Audio Window for "QT Audio"
6. View = SMPTE
7. This step is very important: Look at your cue sheet and pick a point that's about 1/2 way through the movie where there is no music. This will be where you divide the audio file. Let's say that point is at 32 minutes.
8. Select a region that starts from the beginning and ends at 32 minutes, i.e., 01:32:00:00
8. Save that region as an audio file (call it "QT first half")
9. Now, use the Toggle Selection function to select everything from 01:32:00:00 to the end (call it "QT second half")
10. Save that region as another audio file
Now you have two smaller audio files that should display OK in the Arrange Window (unless the breakpoint is 32 minutes!). And if you start a new sequence/song for the cues after 32 minutes you have a 2nd-half audio file that starts at a known point.

  • My nouveau driver file is too short? [Solved]

Yesterday I had this error when I was starting Xorg and it said my file was too short in the Xorg.0.log. I changed the device driver in my xorg.conf to "nouveau". (I do have a NVDIA card and nouveau is installed.)
I have this youtube video to document the error. (It still doesn't work but I changed the device driver to "fbdev")

pacman -Sc will not remove currently installed packages from the cache - so that likely did not do anything.  You need to actually remove the package file, or use -Scc (and answer yes) to remove the cached file(s).
Then reinstall.  It should show that it is being downloaded before installing.
You can also check whether this is actually the issue by comparing the output of the following two commands to the output I'm getting (as long as you are on x86_64):
    $ ls -l /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 203232 Jul 18 07:13 /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so
    $ md5sum /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so
    4eb8a6bd9ec92637a17ae70adaa9ef1f /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so
I had to pacman -Scc and then when I did "pacman -S {,lib32-}nouveau-dri xf86-video-nouveau" it said that a whole bunch of files existed in the filesystem (although when I did pacman -R and the packages it kept insisting I did not download those packages) so I ended up just removing the files manually with rm. I then installed the packages and things seem fine now. I'm going to reboot.
EDIT: IT WORKED! I had to generate a new Xorg.conf, and then I just changed some things, and it worked!

  • Compressor is exporting clips that are too short in duration

    Hi,
I am sending clips via FCP 7 into Compressor 3.5.
The problem is that the outputted clips are too short in duration.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I need to fix it quick!
    Thanks,
    Phil.

    Hi, welcome to the forums.
It might be possible that you have set an IN and/or OUT point somewhere.
Double check and make sure that in FCP or Compressor Preview window you
do not have IN/OUT set on a selection of clips.

  • Published pages are too short

I have set the "content height" to 3000px and it looks fine in iweb but when I publish them they are too short and are cutting off content. I'm using the photo page. If you want to check it out it's www.donnae.ca and one of the cut off pages is sculpturally functional/ misc vases & bowls. I have tried it on other machines... I've cleaned out caches ... help!

Thanks, I tried that and it didn't help. I even tried putting text at the end and it's still ending in the middle of the page.

  • How to pull videos recorded on iPod off device; transfer to computer (if files are too large to email)?

I've recorded 2 short videos on my iPod with the camcorder function, but they are too long/large to email to myself (I am not interested in cutting them any shorter). What are my options for transferring these files from my iPod to my Macbook Pro?

  • Score printout: files are too big for printout since Pro 7

    Hi there,
I have a serious problem printing scores with Pro7: the files appear to be too big, so I can't print them. When I try to print a simple 1 page part, I get the error: "printer out of memory" and I have a HP Laserjet with 8 Mb memory. A PDF from a 3 page part made in Logic 6.3 is 102Kb, a PDF from the same 3 page part opened in Pro7 is 2,4Mb! Everything seems normal: page setup 100% etc.
When I open a song made in Pro7 with Logic 6.3, the files are much much smaller. Does anybody know what's wrong, now I can't print scores with Pro7!
    Thanx, Peter

    Hello Rohan,
Thanks for your effort. I created a PDF-file with a totally different printerdriver. The result is the same: I get a very large file. A 3 page part PDF-file is 2,4 Mb, also with the other fake driver. I'm used to send PDF-files of sheet music through the internet and files this big are no option.
And very annoying: I can't print out scores using Pro7!
    Best regards,

  • Files are too big to download...what do i do?

ok. i have been working on a french project constantly for about 3 days now.
we have to create a cooking show and edit a video to show to the class. my group decided to be all fancy and use a nice canon digital camera (not sure what kind, it's not mine)...i uploaded the videos to my macbook and all was going well until i realized about half of the files are missing.  i now have all the video files i need on a flash drive and from there, i can view them via quicktime player, but that's all. it's strange because the sizes range from about 5 MB to 500 MB, and they're all pretty much the same length. can anyone explain this?
I have tried dragging these large files to iphoto and it cannot read it. when i drag it to my desktop, i get this message "the file '--' cannot be copied because there is not enough free space".  When I drag it into a new even in iMovie 08, i get "Move Failed: error code 1429").  It is quite frustrating, because I can view the exact files i need, but I can't do anything with them.
After getting the message that there is not enough free space, I thought backing up my computer would help.  I went to Best Buy and asked a guy there on the "Geek Squad" to help but he was a PC specialists and the mac specialists were not in that day.... so we just bought a 500 GB hard drive. I spent the night backing up my computer with Time Machine, which I think worked.  Then, I went through and deleted unnecessary videos and pictures.  Then I tried, once again, to drag the file to my desktop. I got the same message. It is THE most frustrating thing, and I have no idea what to do anymore.  I have half of my cooking show videos and it won't work without the others. HELP.

    Are you using Filvault perchance?
What format are all these other drives using?
errFSNotEnoughSpaceForOperation = -1429, /* There is not enough disk space to perform the requested operation */

  • Importing files are too big

Whenever I try to import my cds onto iTunes, in the bottom bar it says that the file will be about 500 MB. I know this isn't right because whenever I import on a PC or another MAC, it shows up at about 30 MB. My iTunes preferences are set on AAC, which I hear is suggested. I don't know what else to do...

It does make sense. You are probably importing your tunes in Apple Lossless or AIFF. You need to check your import settings.
    1. Open iTunes Prefs > Advanced > Importing.
    2. Make sure the "Import Using" is set to either AAC or MP3, whichever you prefer.
    3. Click OK.
Now you probably need to make sure your existing files are transcoded.
    1. Pull down Edit > View Options and click the Kind check box.
    2. Sort your Library by the Kind column by clicking on it.
    3. Highlight all the files that are not AAC or MP3.
    4. Control+click the files and choose "convert selection to XXX."
Once that is done you can then delete the Lossless/AIFF files.

  • DNG files are too big

I tried converting canon raw file to DNG but the dng files are 2 times at big as the canon raw files. What's up with that?

You can get it here. The latst converter is DNG 8.6. I use it all the time. Great for batch conversion and file re-naming before import to LR.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Exported files are too big

i and a friend of mine archive files - scans - that are in the size of 200gb and above.
If we try to export them as version, wie both got an error message.
does anyone has the same problem with bigger images ?

I gather you are using Pages 5?
    Just bad conversion.
Use TextEdit or LibreOffice [free] to resave them and they should shrink down to normal size.
Why are you using Pages in the first place? There are plenty of alternatives for what you are doing.
I would check exactly what you have in your document however.
I did a test export of the Bold Type Letter template [unchanged]:
    .pages = 238 Kb
    .pages (09 export) = 191 Kb
    .pages (09) = 101 Kb
    .pages (09 .doc export) = 24 Kb
    .txt = 2 Kb
    .docx = 10 Kb
.docx resaved from Word = 21Kb

  • Saving raw images to a CD/files are too big!

I was the second shooter at a wedding, and the primary photographer asked me to send my raw images straight to her for processing. Music to my ears as less work for me!
However, when I went to burn my 1800 plus images to a CD, I realized the files would fill over 20 CD's. Seems a little kooky.
Beyond using an FTP site to send them (which I suspect would have similar size issues) is there a way to 'zip' or 'compress' these files to a CD, and still have the images arrive as full size, raw images?

A service like www.rapidshare.com will let you upload files that are up to 200MB in size without paying or registering, so if you can ZIP or Stuff the RAWs into archives a little less than 200MB in size then you could upload these via the Rapidshare website and the primary photographer should be able to download them.  A program like WinRAR will split up a large archive into whatever size chunks you want.  The drawback to doing this, of course, is that there are likely to be 60-80 200MB ZIPs involved so it could be tedious for you to upload and her to download them, one by one.
Otherwise, along the same lines are her initial request, if it's an option, a dual-layer DVD burners are available and will store about 9 GB per disc.  I recently picked up a USB external DL burner for less than $90.  You would need to check with her if she can read DVDs, of course.
Or 16GB SDHC cards are pretty cheap, at least online, and you could put them all on one of those and mail it.

  • Watch bands are too short.

What solution does Apple offer to those of us who need watch bands longer than 215mm?
Can extra links for the link band be purchased?
Can the Link band actually be extended past the length of 215mm? (I ask because I know that the links progressively get narrower along the length of the band).
Are there any Apple employees around that have done their training and can answer the above?

This is a user to user technical support forum.  If any Apple employees ARE here, they would be unable to provide you with any information other than what Apple has already make public on their website.  I'm sure there will be plenty 3rd party accessories for the watch, including bands.  Meantime, you'll just have to wait and see.

  • Conversions in Adobe Media Converter are too short

I've been trying to convert dvd videos to wmv's. Every video I try only shows that it's length is under 10 seconds, even though each video is from 5 to 10 minutes long. Why is it only converting 10 seconds of a 5 minute video?

Please tell us more about the source content. Are they from your own project? Did you rip them from a DVD?
Are you importing the DVD videos directly into AME, or are they in Premiere sequences that you're exporting to AME? If the former, have you tried opening the clips in PPRO to see whether that app sees their full length? If the latter, do you have a work area defined?
Also, what version of AME do you have, and are you working on Windows or Mac?

  • What is the best format to save in computer playback to match the quality of my camera ( MP4 1080p) - NTSC provides poor quality, MPEG2 files are too large?

I am editing video and would like to share these at the same quality and size as  the original file - MP4 1080 film clips. I am downloading these files to Google, or to another network. Choices under computer viewing result in the following - NTSC provides poor quality and the MP2 1080 more than doubles the file size. Any better choices?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running?
What is your camera? Can we assume your videos from the camera are AVCHD.mp4 (1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second?) What is the bitrate and duration of the file?
What is your file size requirement for the export?
H.264.mp4 is a frequently used format used for uploads to various web sites. You can find that format in Premiere Elements in the Share or Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD (most often used) or Share or Publish+Share/Mobile Phones and Players.
Please explain what you mean when you mention NTSC versus MPEG2...I understand MPEG2.mpg or MPEG2.m2t, but what do you mean by NTSC.as an export format.
I will fine tune (customize the reply) with some more details as indicated.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

  • FCP suddenly thinks files are too new

I am running FCP 6.0.5. I had been working on a project for quite some time, when suddenly one day I tried to open it and I got this error:
"This project is unreadable or maybe too new for this version if Final Cut."
I have made no changes to my system that would make this make any sense. If I don't get this file back I'm pretty screwed. I have read past forums about this happening with earlier versions of FCP, but nothing with 6.0.5. I tried the old solution suggestions like opening the project on another comp, and I also tried opening the file after creating a new user profile. Both provided the same error.
    Is there any solution?

Yesterday I had this! With version 6.0.5.
I do not know exactly why it happened, but it happened like this.
On a server an other editor had three projects from a Projects folder open (and saved -not closed- 1 minute before, I checked), when I copied this folder to my LaCie in order to work at home on this projects.
When I got home all projects in the project folder opened except for the 3 files that were in use while I copied the folder...
No way to open them at home. The server with the original items opened the project without a problem.
So far. No solution given. Sorry.
What about your autosave Vault? I suppose older version open without a problem?
And OK, you'll need to reconstruct something. But that's better than nothing. Right?
