Long list of directories being indexed

when I click set up n my browser I have a long list of "directories being indexed". I have indexed everything from my external drive. How can I get rid of the extra "directories being indexed" in the set up window? I erased all apple loop index files I could find but they are still showing in the set up in soundtrack pro

deleting the apple index files and clicking the minus in the set up window removed them

  • Where do I send a long list of problems I have with non-functionality with the Lion OSX and new Safari for Lion.

    In the past two weeks I have been documenting my Lion problems.
    First, Arrows gone from finder windows; makes it difficult in comparing long lists of files in folder, or compare documents when reviewing line by line. This is obviously a change by people who do not compare long lists in windows comparing files between versions of projects ... the click to next screen is NOT equal to arrows.
    Second, Finder Redreaw - doesn't. Move files to a fold, if there are a lot of files, they image of the files being moved remains in finder (see attached screen capture) until Finder is restarted and if COPY function is running. last files in Copy queue are not copied.
    Screen capture 5 minutes after moving files to a folder - the selected file images are still in Finder after the move was completed.
    Third, it is SLOW, particularly going to an "Attach file" in email, drawing the content of a folder to select an attachment is long enough for me to go to the kitchen, get a drink and come back. Just like the old days of OS7.
    Fourth, shifting/recentering screen away from where I am working. Several programs, browsers, Adobe Photoshop/inDesign, and dear old Pages re center my screen - not to the center, but if I choose 30 of 70 images in a folder, it will shift … somewhere else in the folder instead of where I just clicked. If I am working on a document in inDesign or PhotoShop it will do the same - the cursor and screen drift elsewhere to find something it has been amused by. Sometimes it is a word, or a file, but often it is off the pastboard and on the etherial pasteboard on which the pages sit. Or if I'm zoomed in on an image, it moves to somewhere else.
    I use a mouse and keyboard, both Apple wireless. I do not use a trackpad, but have a tablet/stylus I am afraid to put into the mix until this crap is stopped.
    Fifth, SAVE AS… is gone. You must unlock, duplicate and edit the duplicate … and must rename it in Finder, or use EXPORT to save as the same format under a new name. SAVE AS… worked. Not broke, why fix it?
    Personal Comment: The problems seem to be the triumph of coked up software engineers ooohing and aaahing over "Wouldn't it be cool if..."   Cool, if they were Microsoft, and required everyone change how they have worked on Macs for the past (almost) three decades. Triumph of brainstorming over functionality.
    Sixth, I can't use Cocoa Booklet, but that really started in OSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Most of my X11/Cocoa programs stopped worked about that time. Apple is no longer supporting "open source"?
    But Wait! There's More...
    Seventh, Tonight, trying to download a 1.7 gig archive onto a disk where 280 Gigs were supposedly free, it would not download because, according to the wonderful new Safari and the wonderful new Lion, there is not enough disk space to download a 1.7 gig file in a mere 280 Gigs of free space.
    I might be able to move Snow Leopard onto the iMac, but my deciding factor was that Apple, in its wisdom, decided to make iBook Author unable to run under Snow Leopard. So moving to Snow Leopard means I have lost the ONLY benefit I get from the new computer and the new system.
    This really stinks.

    Can you please CLEAN up the podcasts that are no longer in service or being maintained? It's very tedious to click on someone's podcast to find that it hasn't been updated in 3 years.

    This is a user forum and it is best to post these inquiries to Apple Feedback:

    You are right, a lot of older dead podcasts do not belong in the podcasts section. But there is still a lot of these podcasts that have good information and deserve to still be listed. For example there is quite a few photography lesson based podcasts in which you can get good information from different sources.

  • CS4 Glitches - long list

    Following is a list of glitches, and oversights that I have noticed in CS4. Let me say first of all that I have a completely 'clean' system, all maintenance has been run and I have 50% drive space free - although at the moment I do not have an external scratch disk. RAM has been tested also. I have 7 gigs running 4x2.66ghz. None of these problems are particularly frequent and as a result its possible to 'get away' with them. Indeed none of the problems are frequent enough that its likely it has anything to do with RAM or Hardrive.
    Glitches/oversights
     Selection glitches - sometimes when making diagonal selections or turning a path into a selection the selection is wrong - divided into Square blocks. Here is a visual sample
    http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=selectionproblemcr3.gif
      Choosing Select All and then trying to modify a selection, for example "contract" is no longer possible. Items are grayed out in the select menu. This was noticed by someone else in another thread, but it bears repeating.
     In free transform its sometimes no longer possible to move the centre point. This problem seems to happen on larger res files.
     In addition there is a small graphics glitch with Free Transform, the centre point icon now displays with two edges of a box, on high res files.
     Path points now display badly with a missing section, making them appear triangular on large files using Open GL - this makes them less clear.
     The cursor/tool alignment problem, which has been, mentioned in many threads - requires pressing of the F key to 'reset' the screen view. I'm not so sure this is a 'get a better graphics card' issue because I've seen it with too many different, and decent cards.
     Photoshop is crashing sometimes when the layer styles dialog box comes up, this usually happens when another click to close the dialog is made too rapidly. This is quite a serious crash, taking a long time for the system to resolve itself before relaunch.
    The new Masks Panel is not included in Keyboard Shortcuts yet - although I realise better shortcuts already exist for adding or subtracting masks from selections, (shift command and alt in layers panel) this is not consistent with the rest of the app, and people might want to define their own shortcuts.
     Photoshop cs4 crashing on saving on very large files maybe related to the next problem, because the symptom is the same
     Some very scratch intensive operations cause CS4 to 'jam'. This only happens when you switch to another application or use the hard drive for other activities.
     Panels can sometimes take a long time to "wake up" - before their contents appear. This is frustrating because all previous versions of photoshop have not had this problem.
     I've also noticed that Configurator panels with Actions included can occasionally after a pause, crash the app

    I think this is a matter of the user not being willing to face reality.
    Not trying to b rude but sometimes the truth is unpleasant. But there is a good side to this as well. If you upgrade and make things better you will work more efficiently save lot of time be able to go to concerts, meet beautiful young women who will kill you before your time and that will in turn save you a lot of taxes!
    Look at al the benefits, upgrade, I bought the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT immediately when acquiring the CS4 Master Collection. When my Mac no longer support the OS I updated to a MacPro and I will update again shortly even though it will be costly as will Ann and Buko when the applications no longer are supported by the OS they can run on their system.
    And these new computers when outfitted with a high powered graphic card that supports 4GB of VRAM runs over $4,000 out of the box. You can get away without that Card but eventually you will be buying and installing it.
    Mark this is just life and s are performance problems and if that is a long list then I would say even if they were bugs that is a pretty short long list.
    What an upgrade.

  • Getting list of directories within a directory - NULL

    I am getting a NULL POINTER EXCEPTION when trying to get a list of directories from a directory.
    <%
    main_dir = new File("test_dir");
    dirs = main_dir.list();
    if(dir==null){
    %>
    ERROR: dirs is null<p>
    Main Dir: <%=index_dir%>
    <% }
    %>
    It is returning that message that dirs is null.
    The directory structure is
    $TOMCAT_DIR/webapps/test_dir.jsp
    $TOMCAT_DIR/webapps/test_dir
    Within test_dir are two directories: test1, test2
    I put the same code into a regular java code:
    File f = new File ("test_dir");
    String[] dirs = f.list();
    if(dirs == null){
    System.out.println("dirs is null");
    It DOES NOT print out that message that dirs is null.
    I'm just very confused. What am I doing wrong?

    Pardon me but since I don't put the actual code on here sometiems there are typos.
    I have a program where I open a directory. It's a search page where it displays about 10 results then has a button at the bottom says "next" for the next results.
    Anyhow, one minute the webpage will be fine, open the directory with no problem. Then it will stop and say it can't open the directory when the directory is there. It's driving me nuts.
    I'm using Java code within the JSP page, instead of beans so I dont' know if that causes some kind of error.
    <%
    index_dir = new File(master_index_dir);
    indexes = index_dir.list();
    if(indexes==null){
    %>
    ERROR: indexes is null<p>
    Master Index Dir: <%=index_dir%>
    <% }
    else {
    // Other stuff
    %>
    Well just 5 minutes ago this worked fine, the index was open and the results shown. However just 2 minutes ago it stopped and returns the message that indexes is null.
    Sometimes if I stop and start tomcat several times it starts to work again.

  • I have a long list of Certificate Authorities, many of which are overseas, e.g. Netherlands, Turkey, China, and many others. Should I delete them?

    I have a long list of Certificate Authorities (about 280), many of which are overseas, e.g. Netherlands, Turkey, China, and many others that are unknown to me. They do not appear to be related to any websites I visited. Are my emails compromised in terms of privacy? Should I delete them? Why do I need so many certificate authorities?

    Sure delete them... but when you get email or try and open a web page that has a certificate from them you will not be able to open the mail or the web page without issues or making manual decision to trust the authority in question. The geographical location of the certifying authority is of no relevance.
    The now defunct Mozilla Messaging used a certifying authority in Israel for it's certificates (Start) so if someone had deleted that from their settings in a fit of xenophobic housekeeping they would not have been able to open their web sites or read mail from their employees without problems.
    Certifying Authorities form a chain of trust. They on the whole certify one another, but at the top of the certification pyramid/s there most be someone or group of someones who the program simply "trusts" to certify. Hence programs have a long list of pre approved companies that are allowed to issue certificates. These lists are constantly updated and should there be a serious security issue such as one of the authorities being compromised. The people at Mozilla will update or revoke that authorities trusted status.

  • Long list inside IN Iterator

    Hi All,
    We are having performance issues (in terms of ELAPSED)TIME) in one query containing long values inside IN list.
    SQL
    SELECT A.RIC,B.DATE FROM SEC WHERE
    act_flg=1 and
    exchangecode IN ('ENP', 'LSE', 'OSL','HEL','ENA','ENB','CPH','MIL','VIR','LIS','MCE','GER','STO','SWX''VIE','JNB','ISE','TLX','IST','INS');
    Composite Index is created on act_flg & exchangecode col.
    If i put only 3-5 values inside IN list, then Oracle optimizer will pick up index and hance query will return rows in less then a sec.
    But in FTS, it is degrading up to 3 min.
    Is there any way through which i can utilize existing index ?
    (INDEX HINT can not be used as CODE CHANGE is not permitted.)
    -I played with diff hisograms but still index is not getting used.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    try setting the "valuePassThru" property to true on the component. Normally list values are their index.

  • Apache not listing all directories

    Hi,
    I am trying to transfer my LAMP application from Ubuntu to ArchLinux. Everything is fine in Ubuntu, but when I look at my page in Arch, some of the functions are missing. I installed firebug, and realized that users' pictures cannot be found, since they were in user_pic directory. I tried to look at the directory listing of my public html directory and realized that some of the directories are missing. I set the permission to 777 and 644 for all directories, but still unable to see them.
    At first, I thought user_pic directory is missing, because of the "_" in it, but I found another directory containing "_". Also, I observed that some directories that don't have "_" in their names are missing as well. Any idea how I can get rid of this problem?
    Edit: I just copied the entire directory content to /srv/http/ and was able to see everything correctly. Any idea why it doesn't work in my home directory at http://localhost/~myname/ ?
    Thanks

    dav7 wrote:I don't think Arch configures its httpd to list user directories by default.
    It doesn't list if there is index.html in the directory. I don't have index.html, so it shows all files. I added index.php to the confi file, so that when apache sees it, doesn't list the directories. But this is not my concern. My main problem is that apache cannot see some of the directories in user home directories at all. It's very strange.
    Also, I don't know why in Arch they have set the default debug mode of apache to false, so that people can't see error messages. My php file has several syntax errors, but I can't see the error message on the browser. I tried php -l to see the error, but it just says cannot parse the document without indicating the actual error and when it occurs. Still looking for enabling error messages in apache.

  • The type of this column cannot be changed because it is currently being indexed

    Hi,
    We have a custom library with some columns defined. This library we have saved as a template and then trying to create a library using the template. When we try creating the new library using the template we get the following error:
    The type of this column cannot be changed because it is currently being indexed.
    We are not trying to change any column type just creating a new library using the template. The existing library does have a couple of indexes specified. Removing a index that is applied on a column of choice data type (drop down selection) seems to work.
    However, would like to know why this is an issue with the index?
    Although this is perfectly supported. Checked, this does not happen when I try with a new library with a choice data type and index applied on that library, it creates the template and then a new library correctly. So, what's going wrong with my earlier
    library?

    Hi Croute,
    I had checked that thread earlier and tried the Managed Metadata Service Application solution. However does not help in my case. I still get the error.
    Also, just to cross-check we created a new library from scratch and added choice column and applied index on this column. Saved this as template and created a new library using this template. It works fine without the error. So not sure what is wrong with
    the earlier library and list template that gives the error
    The type of this column cannot be changed because it is currently being indexed.
    Also, note even after giving this error the library is created with all the columns and indexes. But we need to provide a reason for the error above.

  • Index.html not being indexed? do i need it in sitemap

    hi i have nearly finished my website http://www.uniquepcrepair.co.uk and for some reason the index page is not being indexed in search engines?
    when i type site:www.uniquepcrepair.co.uk it returns 3 pages but not the home page.
    i have submitted a site map with 5 pages in it and wondering if its because i have included the index.html in the site map?? do i need index.html in the sitemap as that is already the homepage? thanks.
    here is a copy of the sitemap
    http://www.uniquepcrepair.co.uk/sitemap.xml

    Osgood, Google is the 800-pound gorilla. According to Hitwise, around 91% of search is Google (combining google.co.uk and google.com).
    I realize that some of the websites I design won't work well in Internet Exploder version 6. But it's 6% of the total number of browsers out there and I would rather write code for mobile than worry about microsoft's least-compatible web browser. By the same token, why would one fret about chasing less than 9% of search engines?
    Furthermore, because Google's algorithms seem to be doing so well, I'll bet the Bings, Yahoos and Asks of the world are ignoring the meta tags as well.
    Content is king. Make sure all of your image files have alt tags will full descriptions. Refresh the website regularly with new content. I tell my clients to republish anything written about them in the press on their website. Additionally, several of my clients regularly publish articles and then republish them on their website.
    A website that expands, as to content, will rise in the search engine rankings. And this may take a while. I have one client who is a landscaper who whined constantly about his competitor being above him in the rankings. By and large you cannot change the position of your rankings in a day. But you can over time. My client followed my advice. He added to his website and had me do a rebuild that took out frames and tagged every photo. Since he's a landscaper, there is not a lot of text on the website—but there is a lot of textual information in alt tags and descriptions of photos. All of that is picked up on search engines and, as a result, he gets over 1600 unique visitors in winter months (he doesn't do snow plowing) rising to over 4,000 in July. He generally books to capacity by June and his business has doubled year over year—every year—since I took over his website in 2010. His web traffic in summer has doubled as well, year over year.
    He no longer complains about his competitor.
    Sign on to Google and use Google's Webmaster Tools to let Google know about the website. Upload an XML sitemap. Seriously consider any suggestions Google may make for the website. And allow a little time to work its magic.

  • Link to directories containing index.htm

    I've got a question that I've been trying to figure out for
    some time. I'm fairly well versed with dreamweaver, but some of the
    server stuff is a bit hazy to me.
    Question:
    Within dreamweaver, if I link to a subdirectory that has an
    index.htm page in it, the url explicity shows the page name (i.e.
    mysite.com/downloads/index.htm). I want to make the links look like
    this: mysite.com/downloads/
    Now, while I know that this kind of link works fine once the
    site is on the server, when I navigate pages on my local copy of
    the site, the link simply opens the directory in an explorer
    window.
    So, without a solution, I either have to choose: working on a
    broken site locally that will work fine on the server, or just
    explicitly link to the htm files in each directory - I've chosen
    the latter, but it's BUGGING me!
    Extra Info:
    I currently edit all my websites locally with dreamweaver and
    then selectively upload files with another ftp client. My reason is
    that many of these websites that I work on are live and I don't
    want to be uploading files that I've just modified, but have not
    tested, b/c I might have accidentally fudged something.
    So, how can I configure my environment such that all links to
    directories containing index.htm file, open the file correctly both
    online and locally.

    As to why Explorer is opening, I haven't a clue, but I also
    oftenwant
    to link to /subfolder/index.htm. I point to the file in DW,
    then strip
    out the filename, leaving /subfolder/.

    I have a long list of gibberish files, in Preferences, in my Library. What are they? How did they get there? Can I delete them without causing a problem?

    Here is one thing I found googling for WebEx:
    http://www.webex.com/why-webex/overview.html
    (The x64 would most likely mean 64 bit). It may be a Windows based application/plugin, but since I had never heard of either, I'm only guessing there. If you do a search systemwide for it and don't find it plus don't know why it's there, I'd say throw it in the trash (don't empty it yet - make a note of the file path just in case you do have something installed that needs it so you can move it back).
    Glad to hear it's not a torrent; some people use those not realizing that quite often there is a price to pay for downloading stuff for free that costs money elsewhere - the software packages quite often include little "add-ons" = malware which you really don't want.

  • I have a long list of bookmarks. They are not sorted. They do not appear anywhere in the "organize bookmarks" window. Where are they? I want to delete a bunch of them but can't find a way.

    This is Firefox 3.6.8 and Mac OS 10.5.8.
    Right clicking on a bookmark does nothing. I don't know if that is a Firefox version issue or a mouse issue, but the mouse can right click on the Mac OS desktop and get the usual menus.
    It is possible for me to delete bookmarks which still point to an active web page because there I can use the star to edit the bookmark. That is way too cumbersome a process for the long list I have. Some are old and no longer point to an active page. The star comes up empty in those cases anyway and I can do nothing about the bookmark.
    Bottom line is that I just need a way to see the whole list and choose the ones to delete.
    I thought they should all show up in the unsorted bookmarks folder but it is empty. That may be the crux of the problem.

    Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
    This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
    All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
    It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
    Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive.

    SharePoint does not remove users from SharePoint permissions just because they were deleted/disabled in AD. This is to maintain referential integrity. In fact, when you delete a user from SharePoint, that user remains in the SharePoint content database,
    just marked as deleted.
    They do not have access to SharePoint given their account is deleted/disabled. But as far as automatically managing this, I'm not aware of a tool. On-prem there is Metalogix ControlPoint which does a great job of this, I haven't explored the O365 options.
