Long Prints-PS and Epson7600

I realize this may not be the proper forum for posting this question, but I will give it a try regardless.  Obviously it's up to the group to either answer or not, and I will leave it at that.  I have posted this question on the Epson Wide Format Forum with results, so I'm hoping you might be able to offer a bit of advice, since the OS does have a bearing on this issue.  I will admit that I have seen this question here a couple of times without much of a response.
The issue is the printing of an image longer than the 90.5" restriction of the Epson 7600 drivers.  Of course, as with any printer driver, some of the driver parts reside within the OS as well as the driver itself.  One of the last responses I received on the Epson forum was that in CS3 and CS4 the image length restriction had been lifted and the poster mentioned that he had printed several images considerably longer than 90.5".  I have been working with these printers for over 4 years and have not been able to find a way around this restriction.  He also mentioned that he is working with the Epson 7600 driver version 3.09 installed on OS 10.4.x.  On the Epson site this driver version is specifically mentioned for use with Leopard only.  I did however install version 3.09 on one of my bootable Tiger drives to try it out.  As I had suspected, it did not work, so I have since taken that drive back to it's original state as a backup for my OS and apps.  I also have one drive with Leopard installed and the 3.09 driver, but it won't print beyond the aforementioned length either.
Of course it's quite possible that I have overlooked something and that there is indeed a way to circumvent the length restriction on the 7600.  If any of you good folks have information that might help I would certainly appreciate your response.  I am running a Power Mac G5 with OS X 10.4.11 and two Epson 7600 printers.  They are working just fine, but I have noticed that Lepoard tends to interpret my printer profiles somewhat differently(NOT in a good way) than in Tiger.  For this and other reasons I doubt I will be taking the full leap to Leopard any time soon.
Thanks in advance for any information you feel might be of help.
Gary

I think I figured it out.  I took another crack at it tonight, starting with a full printer deletion.  I removed all of my printers, and deleted all signs of Epson on my computer.  I even went so far as to delete the icc profiles in my ColorSync directory.  Then I reinstalled everything.  I don't know if this helped or not, but what I did find out is that I will never enable 16-bit printing in the driver again.  It turns out there are two places where you can check a box enabling 16-bit printing.  One is in PS/LR, the other is in the Printer Settings dialog.  Right next to where you disable printer color management in that dialog is a 16-bit button.  I'm guessing that even if you disable printer color management in the driver, this button, when checked, enables all or a part of the printer color management operation again.  So if you have PS/LR set to color manage, and the driver set to do nothing, turning on this option can result in a conflict between PS/LR and the driver.  That's my theory anyway.  All I know is that as long as that box remains unchecked (even if 16-bit is enabled in PS/LR) everything works fine.  I'd love to hear from those more knowledgable than me if my theory makes any sense.
Thanks for all of the help and suggestions.  Chris, you were dead right that the problem was in the driver.  I'm going to close the loop with Epson product support anyway just to see if I can confirm my suspicions.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro K5400 no longer prints Cyan and Yellow all of a sudden. Please help..

Officejet Pro K5400 Cyan and Yellow just stopped working at the same time (very strange).  I've read almost every post and tried almost everything including the diagnostic tests that show that everything is fine (via printer buttons), cleaning test and every other test available in the HP manual many times.  The diagnostic test shows no problems and cartridges all brand new and full to max.  However the diagnostic print only shows the Black and Magenta, but no Cyan, Yellow or any other color.  I pulled out the print heads, cleaned connectors, soaked heads and everything else you can imagine and no luck. I must have pulled the power out and "hard reset" it over a dozen times.  I can't imagine that both print heads (cyan on one, yellow on the other) just decided to die at the same time.  I cant be driver/software related because I did the tests directly from the printer.  The only thing I can think of is maybe cyan and yellow dried out when I took out the cartridges to take to staples with me for reference.  All cartridges were out of the printer for 2 weeks or so.  Any thoughts?

  • Can no longer print from Photoshop CS^ have upgraded drivers error message reads There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."

I have upgraded my iMac to Yosemite but now my two Canon Printers no longer print from Photoshop CS6. I have upgraded the drivers. All other applications including Lightroom are fine. I am receiving an error message as follows:"There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." How can I get the OS to return a list of printers to Photoshop when Photoshop requests a list.

Have you printed to this printer from 10.10 before?  If so, check your connections.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

Have you cleared all your printing queue?
If necessary reboot your router and printer.

  • I can no longer print using wifi. I have to connect a USB cable to print. Setup and pref show that I should be able to print wireless but I keep getting printer not found msg when trying.

I can no longer print via wifi. I could at one time but now I have to connect to printer with USB. All settings appear correct in printer and macbook. Sys pref shows printer with green light next to idle. Sending a print prompt results in "searching for printer, printer not found, ensure printer is turned on". I have reinstalled printer in my print list and reinstalled printer software on macbook. Kodak 5250 AiO printer shows it's configured for and on wifi channel. I go online with laptop using wireless but cannot print. Help!

If you know the IP address of the printer, then you can check if there is a working path between the Mac and printer. This can be done using Network Utility or a web browser.
If you open Network Utility and select the Ping tab, you can enter the IP address of the Kodak and then press the Ping button. If there is a working connection then you should get a reply to each packet sent.
With the web browser, many devices have a built-in web server so you can type the IP address of the printer into the browser and if there is a working connection then you will open the printers web page.
So, are you able to confirm you have a working connection between the Mac and printer?

  • HT1338 I have an HP Printer/scanner, and since upgrading to Mountain Lion I can no longer scan on my HP.  HP tells me that I can get an upgrade app from 'Apple Software Upgrade' .  Does anyone know how to do this?

I have an HP Printer/scanner, and since upgrading to Mountain Lion I can no longer scan on my HP.  HP tells me that I can get an upgrade app from 'Apple Software Upgrade' .  Does anyone know how to do this?

HP couldn't find its own apps with both hands and a flashlight.
As of Lion all scanning functions are incorporated natively in OS X. You can scan three ways:
Use Preview: File > Import from scanner
    Use Image Capture
(Preview and Image Capture are both in your Applications folder.)
System Preferences > Print & Scan. Select your HP and use the Scan tab.
If you have HP's "Image Zone" software installed, you no longer need it and it no longer works anyway.

  • HP Photosmart c309a no longer printing and drivers not available

My HP Photosmart c309a printer which previously worked successfully printing wirelessly suddenly stopped longer working and showed as Offline  and the dirvers do not seem to be available for my Macbook Air. I have set the printer back to default settngs and reconfigured wireless and bluetooth. I have turned printer and laoptop on and off.  I then removed the printer from the list in Printers and scanners in System Preferences and then have tried to add it it back. The Photosmart shows as a device to be added but when I add it, I then get a message:
"Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
I have downloaded general HP Photosmart software from apple download site and that hasnt had any effect, and I have tried to download from HP site for C309a for mac http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03967522&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4159&product=373... but there is no download available directly (like there is for Windows). The  instructions take you to Printer & Scanners and Add printer, so same vicious circle as above. I have also tried adding the IP address for my printer but  get the same message.  After trying these various work arounds we can now prnt from daughters PC (after downloading drivers again from HP site)  and other daughters mac is now working  but i cant add my printer back to my selected prnters on mine. Hoping someone can help me very soon. Thanks Lisa

The radio may have failed.  Let's try a test:
Make sure the radio is enabled.  The blue Wi-Fi light should be on.
Turn off the Bluetooth radio.  The blue BT light should be off.
Press and release together the <setup> and <#> keys.  A diagnostic report will be generated.
At the top of the report is a section labeled [ USB Host ].  Tell me the RNDIS PID/VID values.
At the bottom of the report is a section labeled  Undirected Scan - Wireless Networks Found = X.  Tell me how many networks are detected, the names of the networks, the channel and the RSSI.  Also tell me which one is yours.
If the PID/VID in step #4 is N/C and there are no wireless networks found in step #5, then the radio may have failed.
One last check is to turn the printer off and unplug the power supply.  Then while pressing and holding the # the 6 keys, plug in the printer power.  Hold the keys for 10 seconds then release.
After the printer initializes, repeat the steps above and report back.

  • I have a macbook pro and aphotosmartD110 wireless printer.  I was told that if I install the printer software on my computer, it will no longer print wirelessly.  Is that true and how do I scan wirelessly without loading in the software?

I have a macbook pro and a photosmart D110 printer.  I was told that if I load the software for the printer onto my mac that it will no longer print wierlessly.  Is that true and how can I scan wirelessly without loading the software? Also, can I just connect my mac to the printer with a cable and scan or do I need that software loaded onto the mac?  Thanks for all help!

If you are running Lion then all drivers are distributed through Software Update. You do not need to install anything, other than to install the printer in System Preferences > Print & Scan. If you already added the printer while it was connected using USB, you might want to delete it and set it up again wirelessly to avoid confusion. Or, give them two distinct names e.g. "Photosmart D110 (USB)" and "Photosmart D110 (wireless)".
All scanning functions are now performed using Preview, but you can also access the scanner through the same Print & Scan preference pane, or with Image Capture.
This HP document may help explain how driver software is distributed now:

  • HP LaserJet 2605dn display is blank and will no longer print

I have had this printer for several years and has always worked flawlessly, until just recently. I encountered a severe jam and still had 40+ pages in the buffer that could not easily be recreated, so i decided to leave the computer on while removing the jammed pages (2), and the printer continued and finished printing the job. In order to get to the jammed pages, i had to remove the top portion of the printer. I don't remember if the display went off immediately, or not, but there is NO DISPLAY on the printer now.   Also, soon after this jam, the printer has stopped printing.
I am running Vista. I turned the printer off, unplugged it, unplugged the USB, restarted the computer, reconnected everything, and still no display or printing. I deleted the printer and re-added it, but still no.
Did i mess something up when i removed the top of the printer?
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

oh, my! That was so long ago. But, if i recall correctly, when i pulled off the top of the printer, there was a very small wire with a plastic connector on the end that had pulled appart when i removed the top. I probably had to use tweezers in order to reconnect it.  sorry for the foggy details, but that is what resides upstairs these days! good luck.
