long story short i need to set up a password for my linksys wireless router... i tried go to linksys' website link i went ahead and set up a password using instructions from the link above...went to http://192.168.1.1/...clicked on admin tab and set up password... to test out my password i turned on/off my wireless connection on my macbook. when i turned it back on and selected the linksys wireless connection from the dropdown menu on my macbook it did NOT prompt me for a password? what am i doing wrong? why isnt it asking me for a password?

The password you have changed is the password which protects the access to the web interface of the router. In other words, you must know this password to make changes to the configuration of the router. It is not the encryption key for wireless security. Wireless security is configured on the Wireless Security tab.

Anyway, I kept working on freeing up more disk space on my computer and to make a long story short, I was up past 2am working on this, but finally my iphone is restored and I have all my stuff. I now have a passcode which I am sure to not forget. Like I said, I've never had a passcode before, but I kind of like the security of it. So I think I'll go ahead and keep it.

Long story short. plugged my i phone into my computer and my sons itune acct. came up ithought it was mine and hit restore now i have all his stuff and mine is gone. turns out i never backed up. Help. I have a new ipad which had 238 photos and it only would share 190 with my phone. I pretty much just deleted his stuff, reset to dfault to get my clock and calendar back. The biggest problem now is my old icons show up but wont launch so I figured I coul delete them then re install them but HIS apple account keeps showing up with his account info. How do I change that to get my name and password back on there?

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your data. It sounds like you need to sign into your own Apple ID again on the iPad, then download your previously purchased iPad apps again. We have an article on how to do exactly this, and it can be found right here:

Also, you may want to consider signing up for a free iCloud account and turning on automatic backups. This will allow you to back up your iPad in the background and without connecting to a computer, so that this issue of data loss will be minimized if this sort of issue ever happens again:

Long story short....I restored my computer to an earlier point using time machine and now all of the previous back-ups are gone. My question has to do with itunes...is it possible to restore my itunes library to the most recent backup because the restore that I did was in march and the latest backup was in may....the reason being is that there were app that i had downloaded that are in my most recent back-up, that were not in the backup I restored to. Is it possible to just restore one application ie)itunes?

Long story short, I'm logged on to my daughters iMessage on my sons old iPod because of personal reasons so I was just wondering, will I receive her text messages? And will I be able to read the text messages she sends out? I may sound like the bad guy here but, it's for her own good that I'm doing this.
Thank you.When you associate a phone number with iMessage that is currently signed into an Apple ID it becomes tied to that Apple ID, so any other device that uses that Apple ID has access to that phone number for iMessage.
eg. I use iMessage on my iPhone which uses the same Apple ID as my iPad, as such I receive iMessages sent to my iPhone on my iPad aswell, and can respond to the same conversation on either. -
Long story short, I downloaded garageband and deleted it in the trash can and emptied it. When i o to the apple store it says that its installed but i cant find it nowhere in the iMac. Please help
Yet another example of why it's a VERY BAD IDEA to do a clean install of Lion unless you are already VERY familiar with how to tweak the Mac OS. There's a reason Apple engineers removed it as an option. To accomplish it you have to erase your disk; not for the faint hearted.
Do you have a backup? PLEASE don't tell us you did this without a robust backup.
You erased the operating machine, so your computer went to the only place it could find one, the Recovery partition. And it's minimal, so it has to download everything in small chunks to reinstall itself. So yeah, it could take 10 hours.
Here's another option. Do you still have the original disks that came with your machine? Put one in and restart from it. You can reinstall your old system much faster. Then go to the Mac App Store and your purchase history and see if you can redownload Lion (I think that still works).
And this time just do yourself a favor and install per Apple's instructions. When the machine starts into Lion, use Setup ***'t (the first thing that fires up) to migrate from your backup.

I was trying to upgrade to the newest version of Firefox, and when I downloaded it, and clicked on run, it took me to a login box, where I had to choose whether to continue as current user or login as Administrator. When I clicked on continue as current user, nothing happened. When I tried logging on as Administrator, I used all the passwords I could think of that I use and nothing was accepted. Id on't recall ever setting up a password for Adminstrator on this computer, so I don't know what to do. I even deleted the older version of Firefox thinking that might help, but it didn't work either, and now I don't even have that! Help!
What iPhone do you have? You can check in settings>>general>> about.
If you have a 3G you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. The 3G is over 4 years old an was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You need the latest ios to run the latest versions of some apps. If you have a 3GS you can update.
If your phone is not responding, reset it by pressing and holding down both the home button ad lock/ sleep button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. -
Setting up a password for my wireless internet
We have a linksys wireless router I believe, (and macbooks) and our wireless internet that both my roommate and I use is not secured...ie: anyone can connect to it. To prevent my neighbors in the apartments and buildings around us I would like to set up a password for my roommate and I for our wireless. I have no idea how to do this. Can someone tell me the steps or whatever I need to do?
Thanks!You do this in the router's configuration. Most LinkSys routers can be accessed through your browser by entering the router's access address into your browser's address bar. For example, http://192.168.0.xxx, where xxx is the last node of the router's IP address. You will find this in the router's user manual in a section on configuring from a browser.
Once into the configuration pages look for a section on security. Choose WPA2 security (do not use WEP) and set your password. For additional protection you can also set up a "private" network in which you enter the MAC addresses of only the computers you will allow access. Even if someone hacks your password they will not be able to access your network unless you list their MAC address in the router's private network configuration. -

You can do this by creating a Login screen for the users and check the authentication of each user in PAI i.e. PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
Store the user information in a database table and check the username and password when the user enters it.
You can display password as *** also. For this double click on input box designed for password and goto Display tab. Select Invisible in the list and check it.

Sig, I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I have no idea what issues you were having or what issue exactly pgrounds has been having. Your assumption that everyone's set up is the same as yours is false however. There are many many documented WiFi issues that are a result of Lion installs. Many have been solved by 10.7.1 and 10.7.2. Others have been solved by a large variety of work arounds. Others have not had their issues solved yet.
I am one of those. I have an IT background, and I spent the better of five hours digging up workarounds and attempting all of them. For the benefit oh anyone who is having similar issues, I have posted links to all of those workarounds here. None of them worked in my case, but hopefully they will help pgrounds or others.
So, once again, if you have a new idea, I'd love to here it. But if it has already been posted in one of these links, it's not helpful, let it go.
