Long Transfer Times; Always Sincs

I am new to the iPod world. I have previously used (and am comfortable with the software of) Creative devices. I received a Shuffle recently, and have a few questions that I cannot find the answers to.
1) How long should it take to fill a shuffle? I filled the "Music" category in the Library with songs already on my laptop (converting them from mostly wma); it will now take about 3-4 hours to transfer those songs to the shuffle. This seems ridiculous to me. My creative will fill 8g in about 15-20 minutes. Is the shuffle really this slow, or am I doing something wrong?
2) Whenever I dock the shuffle, it automatically starts "Updating files on Shuffle", even though nothing has changed in my Music Library or on the shuffle. And, what is really annoying is that it will start to copy all my songs again to the shuffle, saying "Copying 1 of 224", and go through this 3-4 hour process every time I connect the shuffle. Why does it do this?
As I will be using this shuffle for exercise, I intend to hardly ever change the songs; I will usually just be connecting it to the computer to charge it. From other posts so far that I have read, I can probably fix this by not having itunes start up upon shuffle docking. But, this seems like the cheap fix. I would really like to play around with itunes to get familiar with it, but not if it is going to reload my already full shuffle every time. And take forever to do it.
Please help a newbie out. All the guys at work rave about thier ipods, but it sure seems like a PITA so far.
Thanks

The BIOS is the the first layer of code that controls your computer before it gets around to loading your operating system from the hard drive. The BIOS controls, for example, which mode the parallel port works in, whether numlock is active at startup, whether USB will support "legacy devices" etc. These settings are stored in an area of CMOS memory kept powered by battery, along with the clock, when your computer is turned off. Certain kinds of crash can corrupt the BIOS area either setting new values or causing the BIOS to load a default set of values from another storage area. You normally gain acess to the BIOS setup screeen by pressing f2, f11 or delete as the computer boots up - check your scren as it starts for instructions. It might be worth taking a look at the USB settings to see if there an obvious change you could make. Just make a note of anything you change so you can set it back if it's no help.
An IRQ is the way hardware asks the operating system to pay attention to it. They are limited in number and while some are fixed the remainder can be assigned by the BIOS, the operating system or a combination of both. Occasionaly this can cause problems. For example, some PCI hardware can share an IRQ with another device but it may affect performance. Often these can be resolved by going into the Windows device manager and uninstalling the devices, which allows them to be redetected & reinstalled when you restart. You might also want to check the manufacturer's website for updated device drivers for your USB components.

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

How can I transfer albums from one of my accounts to another?  My new account (Apple ID) email address is no longer available to me since I lost my job.

OK, now I have another problem.  I typed in my email address wrong.  Instead of optonline.net I typed in optimum.net.  Though I can google my email address and it defaults to the optonline.net the email to confirm the change is not showing up.  I know, real stupid.  Now I cannot log onto either address as the original is not changed and the email has not showed so am I done here?  I appreciate your help!!!  Carl

  • Since downloading Maverick I have a long hang time, computer crashes, can't use word and I can't access finder, why?

Since downloading Maverick I have a long hang time, computer crashes, can't use word and I can't access finder, why? Also, iTunes is horrible. While I'm listening to my music iTunes will just stop playing the song for at least 5 minutes and I can't force quit why does it do that? This is the first time I have ever felt like my iMac is just as bad as a PC and I wonder if Steve Jobs would have let the program be relase to the public with all the problems involved. No wonder Maverick was free. IT ***** BIG TIME!

    Hello, vanvu.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Since you are experiencing this issue with both a wired and wireless connection only on your home network and not at other locations, this issue would related to your router.  I would first recommend power cycling the router and testing the connection again.  If the issue persists, try updating your routers settings per the article below.

  • Since update, start up problems.  Must push start button, must enter password several times, long wait times, must push start button again and enter password again.

Since update I have start up problems.  Laptop seems to shut down.
Must push start button, then wait to enter password.  Long wait time, then screen goes black and I must push start button again and enter password again.  More long wait times.  Startup each morning takes up to ten minutes.
I have 4GB Memory and 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor.

Does it start up normally in safe mode?

Since 12/11/2014 Thunderbird 12.1.2 (Oracle ESR) crashed exactly 17 times , always when it the 'To' list searches against the LDAP.
I have tried upgrading it from About > Help. But it never happened after the update download, as it always says some other instance of TB still runs on my computer when ever I Launch TB for the first time after a System Boot.
Same thing happens in SAFE Mode as well.

  • HT203177 I have not backed up my computer using Time Machine since before I updated to Mavericks.  It has been "preparing backup" for a half hour at least and shows no indication of how long this may take.  Is something wrong?

I have not backed up my computer using Time Machine since before I updated to Mavericks.  It has been "preparing backup" for a half hour at least and shows no indication of how long this may take.  Is something wrong?

No. TM has to look through your entire drive contents and copy them all. This will take some time.
Once the first backup is made, then subsequent backup will be much quicker, depending on how much data has changed since the last one.

  • Long Load Times on Graphic Intensive Games

I'm experiencing some absurdly long load times (1-3 hours) with many games (SPORE, Portal, X:3, etc...) that I believe may be related to how graphically intensive they are. Older games with lower graphics quality (WoW, Civ 4, etc...) load up fine.
When I load any newer game the icon appears in the tray and the computer does nothing else for at least an hour, whereupon the program loads and begins playing immediately--often without any further delays or issues.
I also use Boot Camp to run Windows Vista (Ultimate 32) and experience no delays when running SPORE on Windows.

  • How do I deal with project bloat? Long Save time is getting worse?

Here are the FB posts I have got about this issue. I tried to paste them neatly but didn't work.
To be honest I am baffled that such an advanced NLE has so many issues. There should be a warning about the Warp Stabilizer messing up a project I had no idea till now.
This was my question to a PP user group on FB.
I am cutting a 60+ minute doc with lots of source material and the project takes a dogs age to save now which is beginning to interrupt my workflow. I would have thought the save would take less time depending on how much work was done since the last save. I suppose working with Proxies might be the solution but I am already 70% done.
    Here are the responses
Saving the project file on an SSD might be a good idea.
Your project size is slowing you down. Create a couple of projects, each containing a part of the footage. Organized in bins as needed. Call them footage projects. Create an other project named edit and cut in there. Use the media browser to browse the footage projects. Import what you need and use search bins to keep it organized.
If you didn't transcode your footage before you started the project it could be part of the problem. And like the other post says only having the footage you are currently working on will also help. The claim that you don't have to transcode when working in Premiere is misleading because in most cases when working with many different source codecs transcoding will always improve your computers performance.
I had the exact same experience cutting a 90 min feature with 120 hours of Pro Res 4444 footage. Long save times are caused by project bloat, either by having too many assets loaded or a lot of warp stabilizer effects applied. Transcoding will only affect playback performance and exports - it doesn't sound like it's the problem in this case.
only some codecs (4K GoPro, 6K R3D, lengthy h264/AVCHD clips for example) benefit from transcoding and will be snappier and playback smoother. But transcoding will never ever help the loading or saving time of your project
Don't apply warp stabilizsr to everything. All those coordinates get stored in project file
All I can say is that I worked on a Premiere project in November where my computer spent up to 5-7 minutes scanning through all the different directories with footage after the project was open before I could play back the sequences in my project. I ha...
some of the ftg is in need of stabilization so I did use the warp stabilizer but not excessively. 15 x 3-10 second clips. Is there a way of managing the storage of the coordinates too minimize the hit on the project size?
nope. Try importing existing project into a new project.
I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
I also work with Nested Sequences a lot. Working in short, manageable timelines. When opening a large project, Premiere will find the footage for the active sequence first, so I can start working quickly, while Premiere is still finding the rest of the footage.
Could do your warp stabilizing in AE and export renders of them, then import those renders into your project so the are just media files instead of files with stabilizer tracking points.

I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
That would be something like  the advice I would have given
    and  more likely...
Save heavy duty  FX application until after you have locked down your edit. (eg Blurs , Warp, 3rd party FX(MB)
I Create separate sequences or Duplicate Projects for many reasons.  eg CC/Grade  and
Warp Stabiliser ...definitely.  Its even has a slow save  impact on After Effects Projects!

  • So is arch basically gentoo without the long compile times?

I've been recently trying different distros, and was considering trying arch linux. I've always liked gentoo because of it's thorough package database that always up-to-date, and it let's you install and update packages with one command.  But I've always hated it's long compile times. And it's not like I really need super fast programs when I have an Athlon 64 3000. So is arch linux kept up-to-date, and can you install every single package known to man using pacman?

The only things you may miss from Gentoo :
    - portage's relatively huge package support
    - the smell of the cup of coffee you drink when compiling
    - emerge's colored output
    - Gentoo's stability.
    - Gentoo's geek appeal
    - Gentoo puts ebuilds in ONE place. Arch puts them in several(too much ?) repositories. But of course, Arch has less developers so they can't support all the software in the world.
The things you may gain with Arch over Gentoo
    - Arch's layout is very simpler, and thus very very customizable. If you dig a little in the initscripts and optimize them according to your system, you will boot with the smallest delay in the world.
    - Arch's speed in general is amazing, especially pacman, since it is written in C and not in Python. Searches with pacman are completed in less than a second. Portage will take...er.....longer...
    - ABS is basically a port system where you can recompile the binaries with the options YOU want. Instead of an ebuild, you have a PKGBUILD, which I find to be simpler to understand than an ebuild. You can also make your own packages easily.
-Arch is much more bleeding edge(sometimes hurting stability). But a new package always corrects the problem very shortly.
    - You may like to be able to install Arch 10 times with all the packages whereas you would just be on half-installing the Gentoo base system.

  • Long load times and poor application performance

We have packaged and deployed Adobe CC using SCCM within my school division. It pushed out fine, but now when we attempt to open Photoshop (or any other CC app) it has unusually long load times. 2-4 minutes. It seems to be hanging at the "Reading preferences" stage. After the application appears to have started, it takes an unusually long time to actually start working in the application (it appears to just hang).

    Hello There,
EXE's always bundle additional files because it is a stand-alone entity. And, if the size 9GB then it will surely take time to load all the files. I'll check with the team again on how we can optimize it. BTW, are the videos inserted as slide video or Event video?
    Thanks,
    Vish

  • LONG lag time switching from other programs to Flash

    (Intec-Mac - OSX - 1.5 GB RAM)
Has anyone heard of this before? Any time I switch from any
other open program to a project in Flash, I get a super long wait
time before I'm able to work with Flash again. The lag time
only happens when switching to Flash (I get the spinning
ball of death while the Flash menus load again -EVERY time!)
This happens no matter if I have just Flash open and I'm
switching from the finder back to it or if I have 15 programs open
    at once...
It is super frustrating and slowing down my workflow between
Flash and any other programs! I just uninstalled and reinstalled
hoping it would help but got same result - Any help?

Your best bet at this point in time is more RAM, since the
    Flash IDE on
mac is only PPC at this time it runs emulated in Rosetta on
    Intel macs,
and I've noticed swap times can be quite slow, this is not
    unique to
Flash in my experience, it happens whenever I swap in a
    resource
intensive app. Parallels is another prime example - and it is
    intel
    native.
Adobe engineers appear to have a new found love of the Mac,
    so we can
only hope the intel native version ships it will be super
    zippy.

  • A lot of my Itunes librarywill no longer transfer to my iphone 4, including songs purchased on itunes

A lot of my Itunes library will no longer transfer to my iphone 4, even though the artist, album or genre is checked in Itunes.  If I try to manually drag and drop to my iphone, the dragged song stays clear, and I don't get the green checkmark box showing it's been transferred.  The files are fine--they transfer to my Ipad no problem.  I can also create an AAC version through the itunes option and the song will transfer and play, but I don't want to have to do that--too much music to convert (at least 500 songs).  File formats include Purchased AAC files, AAC mpeg-1, Protected AAC audio file.  Other songs in these formats transfer to my iphone.
I have sufficient memory (on my iphone, although I am getting old (lol)) and can't think of any "duh" type reasons why this is happening. Itunes is running on my IMac.  All operating systems and software is up to date.  Also, I don't get any error messages, the songs just don't transfer.
    Help?!!! Thanks in advance.

You could have moved the playlist folder inside another one. This would not generate a warning message wheras deleting one would.
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library(.itl) as iTunes Library (Corrupt)(.itl) and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library(.itl). Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

  • Vista x64: Long startup time

    Hey guys,
one thing I noticed from day one is that my T500 takes a loooong time too boot up...
to be exact: my vista needs about 5 minutes untill I can use it and that's only with an AV software starting (Nod32 Smart Security), that I uninstalled to see if that was the bad guy, and the "normal" programs - Windows default or from drivers.
Vista was installed on the original Hitachi 320gb/5400rpm hdd my thinkpad came with...
I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate x64 but it didn't get much better. Right now my vista installation is fried due to some unsolvable windows update error, which is why I installed Win7.
Now with Win7 my t500 needs about 1.5 minutes until I can use it, so the long boot time with Vista can't be hardware related....
Also it can't be related to the AV software or any software - apart from the lenovo ones - that I installed, since I had the exact same setup on my old Dell 9400, which wasn't nearly as powerful as this one....
Once Vista was up and running it was as snappy as it could be, so I was/am quite frustrated by the boot time, especially because the system used to freak due ot the switchable graphics right when I wanted to demonstrate something on my "shiny and oh so expensive and fast" thinkpad. My buddy was sitting next to me with his old T61p and he was booting faster.....
I didn't get any results trying to google my issue, so I'm starting this thread. I used system update to install all the drivers, my BIOS is up-to-date, AMT is up-to-date - I don't use it, but I tried to remove all the possible sources of this behaviour.
I messed around with some other options, too. Disable TPM, disable fingerprint, enable/disable AMT, remove 2nd hdd...
Another thing I noticed is that when I have a second hdd in my ultrabay slot, there is a blinking cursor right after the BIOS screen and before the notebook actually boots vista/win7
It's just a second with a dvd drive or without a drive, but about 10-25 seconds with an additional hdd inserted...
This all just adds up to a computer that's very fast when it's already on, but slower then my old Athlon 2200+ when booting....
I hope somebody can help me with my issues, I'm trying to recover my vista installation the next few days, so I hope I/we can solve those problems of mine.
    Thx in advance,
    Stefan

    Welcome to the forums
There might be a number of reasons known and unknown.Microsoft acknowledges this.If you check windows update you will notice certain reliability updates being provided from time to time.Installing them can improve your experience. The best option for you is to install the latest service packs as and when they appear in the windows update
you can also go through this known case which is quite similar to your issue.
Microsoft support also has this page where you can solve you performance issues

  • Can no longer transfer audiobooks from overdrive to ipod nano 6

Can no longer transfer audiobooks from overdrive to ipod nano 6. Diagnostics: Connectivity test-ipod found. Sync test -ipod not found. This problem began about 2 weeks ago. I downloaded itunes update 12.1.0.71 about 1 week ago. I'm on Windows 7.

Do you mean a playlist created by Overdrive?
I downloaded the newest version of ODM yesterday.  Couldn't do it from within the application, had to uninstall/reinstall it.  Here's what's happening now with WMA, which is my preferred format:
-Instead of just moving the audiobook and cover graphic and all that over as in the past, now ODM creates a separate playlist under 'Books' in your device.  Problem is, only some (seemingly random) tracks go over there.  The others just show up under 'Books' but not in the specified playlist, so you have to drag them over in iTunes.
-If you stop listening, it starts over from the beginning next time you're ready to resume, so if you expect to find your place again right away like in the good old days, think again.
-For me the WORST PART is only so much data of that sort is permitted under 'Books' so it seems, because after a certain threshold the transferred parts of books become greyed out and cannot be played.  You are limited to far less data in a period of time than previously.  I used to be able to keep several books on my device at once and listen to multiple things depending on my mood etc.  Now I can fit about 2-3 big books, or 4-6 smaller ones, MUCH less than previously was possible, which is a problem if you've waited for a popular title at the library that you don't have the room for (even though you have plenty of memory in the device).
All in all, I think ODM need to get their act together.  We should not allow them to think they are done with this upgrade, the fixes might be okay for temporary, but they are unacceptable for a permanent format.  They have a phone number on their website.  I left a message.  Others have been tweeting them too, not sure of the contact info.
Good luck everyone.  Post back here if you find something out.
