Long Trip with Location Enabled IT GOT HOT

I just got back from vacation, I used Google Map with location enabled for the first time. I had to use the car charger as well with a low battery.
I had to use the phone and noticed it was to hot to use. I disconnected the car charger and disabled location and it cooled down within 10 minutes. Enough to use the phone.
I really don't know what to think. Was this phone not made to do what I just did on my trip............

Well if you leave maps open, then it will have to constantly being downloading data for the maps thus using data,thus using processor.
Second, charging the phone also creates heat (as charging any battery does). So combined, it just got hot.
Now the phone will alert you and turn off if it really gets too hot.
It wasn't really that you had location services on, but rather the fact you had maps open for long period thus having it keep refreshing map which requires processor to keep working and working at the same time as charging. But even though you said it was hot, it shouldn't get so hot you cannot really hold it.

Having Problems with Location finder

Since 4.0 update my location finder does not work on home network. Tried it on a public network and it works. Anybody else had this problem and did you find a solution.

Many people (myself included) noticed that Location Services stopped working with the upgrade to iOS 4.0. The symptom is that Maps and other apps say "Your location could not be determined." even in areas that used to work. The problem is that starting in iOS 3.2 and iOS 4.0, Apple switched from using the SkyHook location database to using their own. Whereas the SkyHook database had the ability for users to add their own WiFi access points, Apple does not have anyway for us to do that.
I just spent over an hour on the phone with Apple Support senior advisors, who initially wanted to restore my unit or even replace it (neither of which would have fixed it), until I found the news reports about Apples new location database. Eventually, I found a senior advisor who was able to track down the problem and admitted that, yes, since the switch from SkyHook to Apple's own database, many WiFi access points no longer work with location services. "Apple is working on the problem, and eventually it will be fixed, although there isn't any time estimate." I asked specifically if this meant that Apple was going to allow users to add their own WiFi access points, and she said "Yes."

When i got a new PC and transferred ITunes, when i tried to sync my 3G nano, it keeps saying 100 files can't be found and I can't get my checked songs to sync. Is it a problem with software or my ipod or ??? I am leaving on a long trip in a week

When I got my new computer and transferred I tunes my songs in my play list play on my computer, but when I try to sync to my 3g Ipod, it only syncs a few albums and gives me a message that 100 song files can't be found. So only half of what I want is on my Ipod. I leave on a long trip now and really need the Ipod full of my music. I've tried reloading some CDs and replacing the old ones on there, but still they won't sync. What do I do?

You need to copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
The iphone will sync itunes content and pics with one and only one computer at a time. If you sync to another, then it will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
The music sync is one - way -computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
If you sync contacts and calendars to a blank computer, then they will be erased as well.
Copy everything from the old computer.

Standard troubleshooting...
1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider. Slide to power off. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
- Press the home button when done.
4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

I'm not sure if it's fried or not, but try rebooting the device by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously for about 15 seconds or so. Hopefully you will see the Apple logo.

K8NGM2 Long boot with Nvidia RAID enabled *SOLVED*

Hi,
I just bought the K8NGM2 and first had the engineering bios... i upgraded to version 3.10 without any problems.
After I setup my RAID array The computer will boot, get past the RAID press f10 screen and get stuck at "Checking NVRAM" for about (timed) at 60 seconds!
That's a really long time! First couple of times I thought the computer had froze. After 60 seconds it will continue booting normally.
Is there any reason why enabling raid causes this to take so long to boot? I've had previous raid 0 setups and nothing took this long to boot.
Also, my HDD on this completely new computer is two Western Digital Caviar WD2500SD 250gb RE drives on SATA cables 1 and 2. The raid array is also
setup up correctly, striped for raid 0.
This is really frustrating because i really like this motherboard. Unfortunately I'm not sure what to do!

SOLVED
Sigh, computers really throw you for a loop sometimes!
I had my Plextor DVD-RW set as master on IDE 1, NO slave (no second drive)
I also had my Benq DVD-ROM set as master on IDE 2, NO slave (no second drive)
Both were on separate cables.
After disconnecting both i the computer booted normally even with RAID enabled.
I found out that setting two masters on two cables on the IDE controller would cause the computer to hang for at least 60 seconds.
SOLUTION:
Use The Plextor as Master, and the Benq as the Slave on ONE IDE cable.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION 2:
Set the Plextor and Benq as Cable Select if using separate cables.
Boots very quickly now. Hope this helps.

How do I allow Flash Player to communicate with Internet-enabled locations?

Ok, so I'm trying to build a website using Dreamweaver CS6 and I wish to place a flash object in the site (a .swf file).
I go through all the normal ways to do it, whether it be by manually placing it in, or using the Insert > Media > SWF.
Now the main issue with this is the expressInstall.swf script it chucks out.
Whenever I try to preview the webpage in a browser such as Firefox or Chrome, it immediatly decides to stop the flash under the pretense of it being an unsafe operation by trying to communicate with an Internet-enabled location (that location being fpdownload.macromedia.com)
Now, regardless of whether I delete ths parameter or not, the error message always appears, so I believe this is a Flash Player error. I currently have the newest version. Also something I noticed is when I publish preview my flash objects into a flash format, that they open themselves in a html browser rather than a Flash Player program.
So does anyone know how to allow Flash Player to communicate with internet-enabled locations?

Location should be with WiFi enabled?

Hi there, I am new to iPhone and iOS5.
I've met a tiny problem: when I want to use Location, I have to enable it in setting, at the same time, WiFi should be enabled (just enable it, not necessary to connect to any hotspot). If you swith on Location only, errors occur and location infomation would be unavailable.
As I want to extend the battery life, I want to switch off the WiFi but leave the Location enabled.
Is it a bug?

I don't think anyone is trying to convince you to use Wi-Fi, just saying that the phone uses a combination of GPS, wi-fi and cellular signals to get your location. The use of wi-fi and cellular signals just improves the accuracy of the location. It also helps with location when you are not outside where the phone can get a good reception of the GPS signals. As mentioned earlier, I never turn wi-fi off on my phone and it has little if no impact on my battery. That was just provided to you as information, not to tell you to use wi-fi for anything. The phone message is just telling you that the accuracy improves if wi-fi is on, not that it is necessary.
To address your other post, it is possible the failures are occurring if there is a weak cell signal, since it does need that for triangulation in addition to the GPS. GPS location alone will take an extended period without cell or wi-fi and again, if you don't have a clear line of sight to the GPS satellites, you will get a failure.

Sync iCloud-enabled iPhone no longer works with iTunes

Both my wife's and my iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S stopped syncing with iTunes soon after the switch to iCLoud and iOS 5.0.1.
Both phones are setup to backup into iCLoud and to sync via WiFi to the inhouse iTunes.
At some point iTunes decided that both devices are no longer linked with our Computer (iMac 27 OSX 10.7.2) and insists whenever it 'sees' the iPhones on WiFi or the local cable that either devive has to be initialized or restored from the latest local backup (which is outdated due to the iCloud backups).
No way to syn music, videos, movies to any of the devices ever since.
Anybody else having the same issues with iTunes 'forgetting' previously paired iPhones?

That is wild! My receiver had problems under 4.1, and I upgraded to 4.2 last night hoping to rectify things. It worked for me, flies through the menus and plays back beautifully again.

Function keys no longer working with a new keyboard...

I got a new keyboard and my function keys no longer work with it. I am used to have them used in the standard format, i.e. F10-F12 control the voume, etc. I have the "Use all f1,f2, etc." button clicked. I have also tried restarting my computer. Any thoughts?

Try doing a SMC reset and PRAM reset.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

My XP printer no longer works with snow leopard over the network

My XP networked printer (Samsung 4200) no longer works with snow leopard after Mac update. Printer hooked up to XP and can access it through network.
When I print it requests that I to authenticate the printer with a user name and password but it's not password protected. I don't have a password, but I tried all the usuals anyways.
It worked fine a couple days ago, and I've tried everything since. I've reset my printers, turned off both computers. Plugged the printer directly into the Mac - didn't work at first but downloaded a new driver Splix - 2 (Samsung doesn't make an OS X driver for this printer) and got it working. Reinstalled Bonjour on the PC, which can't even see a printer now. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Connecting from a Mac to Windows is password protected. If you tried to connect to a shared folder on Windows you would also be prompted to enter your Windows credentials. So when you do print next time, enter your Windows user details and password. If XP has no password then set one - it is bad practise to have a Windows computer without a password. And updates to Mac OS X expect you to have one set in the Windows computer.
If for some reason you don't want to set a password in XP then enable the Guest account and you can use this on the Mac when you get the prompt (either select Guest or type it in).

Bluetooth no longer pairs with Acura TSX

I have had an Acura TSX since September 2012. The bluetooth on my iphone paired fine, and continued to work okay after I got the iphone 5 in October. However, a few months or so ago, it randomly "unpaired" from the phone. I was able to "forget the device" and repair it. Unfortunately, it unpaired again this week, and after telling the phone to forget the device again, the car can no longer find any bluetooth enabled devices when I try to pair it. Sometimes, the "handsfree" link will come up and ask me to pair, but when I put in the pin, the car will say that it couldn't find a bluetooth. I've turned the phone on and off, and the bluetooth on and off, and nothing happens. No idea if this is an issue with my car or with my phone. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Unpair the car from the iPhone (Settings -> General -> Bluetooth) and unpair the iPhone from the car (check your owner's manual).
Typically you just have to unpair and re-pair the iPhone with the car and you're back up and running.
