Longer antenna for PC60G pci card

My first post here. I've searched the forum but didn't find an answer.
I bought this card about 4 months ago and it works great, but I've since had to move the cpu to a room that's farther away on a higher level of my house. The signal from my router is now very weak and my connection often drops out. The cpu is under a desk, next to a solid, chest high balcony railing. When I move the cpu onto the top of the desk and place the antenna on top of the railing, the reception improves quite a bit. I should also mention that I have a Buffalo router which is supposed to have a very good range as far as wifi routers go. I could buy a 2nd one and use it as an access point to extend the signal but I'd rather try the antenna option first since it would be less expensive.
So my question is, what are the specs of the antenna jack on the card if I wanted to buy an aftermarket antenna? is it 1/4"? I tried looking up the specs of the card but it just says "Dipole". Has anyone with this card upgraded their antenna and which one did you buy?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sorry to say, but an antenna change won't do much.
Wireless has enormous trouble to pass walls....it dampens the signal a lot.
However the dampening is that much that replacing an antenna won't help you here.
I have tried this, but the results are poor.
Best way to get better signal is:
1 Go wired, always the best
2 Install repeaters, so the signal stays fast, will cost a bit of speed.
3 Remove all blockings blocking the view between the router and the machine, anything blocking the view will case the signal to go worse.

Beware, 3dB less is HALVE the signal strength!!
10dB is about no signal at all....
Decibel scale goes fast! And Wifi is far from the same a FM-radio, Wifi is easily blocked.

  • Driver development for custom PCI card

    Hi friends,
I've a PCI card developed in-house. How to prepare a driver for the same in LabVIEW? Can I develop drivers in VISA? I don't have a manufacture id. Is there any other method to develop a driver for PCI card? Once developed, can I use them for other platforms like VC++? My OS is Windows 9X/NT & 2000. I need a driver to use for all these. Lot of querries! hope I made it clear.

THE ANSWER IS THAT YES YOU CAN DO THIS IN NI-VISA!
Some have said that you need a kernel driver. This is partially true in that a PXI or PCI card (they are the same as viewed by the OS) must have a kernel driver. NI-VISA provides one for you.
You said that you do not have a manufacturer ID. This is a requirement of all PCI cards and no kind of driver will work until the card has one. Once you have this ID, run the VISA PXI Driver Development Wizard and it will generate an INF for you for all supported NI-VISA environments that support PXI/PCI. Read the instructions in the appropriate INF file for how to install it into the system so that the OS will attach NI-VISA to your device. It's really simple. NI-VISA supports PXI/PCI on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT
4, 2000, XP, and LabVIEW RT.
Some have said that MAX will just show you all PXI/PCI devices in your system. Your device will not show up until NI-VISA can see it, and that won't happen until you generate an INF as described above.
Since the INF file associates NI-VISA itself to your card, the ADE you use does not matter. NI-VISA supports PXI/PCI in LabVIEW, CVI, MSVC, Visual Basic, or any other ADE that normally works with VISA.
NI-VISA works well even with more advanced devices because we support all types of register accesses (config, I/O, memory) as well as interrupt handling. Just look at the visa.h that NI ships in the VXIpnp directory. If you are using C/C++, make sure you define NIVISA_PXI before including visa.h. If you use LabVIEW, you need to use the address space numbers as defined in visa.h.
    Good luck.

  • Searching for a PCI card that has RCA OUT for 3D goggles

Hi All, I have a Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3.0Ghz Mac Pro with the ATI Radeon X1900 XT, and I’m wondering if anyone has knowledge of a PCI card that has RCA out. I ask b/c I’m using dual monitors and I need to hook up 3D Stereoscopy goggles that require RCA connection. I’ve read other posts about RCA adapters for audio uses, but I need the RCA out for both audio and video. If anyone knows of anything like this that is guaranteed to work on a Mac I’ll be so grateful.
    Thanks in advance,
    DA

The quadro 4500FX card is expensive and does not use RCA jack(s) for the stereo glasses. Compatible glasses for the quadro run $200.00+.

  • Can't pull off the antenna for AirPort Extreme Card

    Hi,
I was trying to install an AirPort Extreme card on my G5 iMac...where I couldn't physically pull the tip of the antenna off the gray plastic base...
I tried turning it to the right and left, but it didn't help me out. Seems like I need a knack or something??
Somebody who knows it, could you please help?
    Thanks!!
    -Taka

This Apple Support Document will provide some ideas to minimize wireless interference:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365
The first obvious thing to try is to move the AirPort Extreme as far away as possible from the headphones. You can use virtually any length of Ethernet cable to physically connect the AirPort Extreme to your modem.
After that, the next best bet is to experiment with a different 2.4 GHz Channel setting by manually trying different channels.
If the interference persists, you may be forced into trying a different manufacturer of headphones, or abandon the BlueTooth communications.
A few years ago, I had to replace my cordless phones at the house for the same type of reason. Whenever the phone would ring....the wireless signal would crash.

  • How to program for two PCI cards with identical device ID?

I have 2 PCI-6713 cards, and they have identical device ID. I'm trying to program in Linux using C++. I got some examples from NI, but non of them seems considering this problem. Where can I get help for this?
    Thanks.
    flofish

The short answer is that you should read out the EEPROM on each of the two cards you find to determine which one is which.
I don't have specific examples for the 6713 on how to do this, but here are the necessary pieces.
EEPROM Read Example - this example is for the E series MIO card, but will be similar for the 6713.
E Series RLPM - in chapter 5 it describes how to read the EEPROM, which corresponds to the example. The 6713 may have a different EEPROM on it than the example uses and you may have to adjust the code accordingly. Look on the 6713 to find the EEPROM and then look up its manual online. Most likely it is one of the following chips: MB88341, DAC8043, 8800.
EEPROM Map for the 6713 - this is the roug
h allocation of information within the 6713. I don't see the serial number listed, but it should be stored on there somewhere. You may want to read out the complete EEPROM and compare the values to the known serial numbers of your boards.

  • PCI IRQ=9 for multiple PCI cards.

With NI's HPIB488 interface, third party ethernet, and acrnet cards installed, all plug and play, all PCI devices, IRQ=9 is always set. We have tried several PC's, Pentium Pro, Pentium II, etc. with Win2000. We must communicate between several different devices. I have seen other comments about IRQ=9 being set, but no final fixes. Has anyone information on how to overcome this problem.

What motherboard and BIOS are you using?
I think IRQ 9 is used for ACPI on some motherboards. Check
to see if "Plug and Play OS" is enabled in your BIOS. If you
are using Window NT, then it should be set to OFF.

  • Fixing Antenna for the airport card

I am trying to fix the antemma cable to the airport extreme card that I just install (power mac G5), but the connetion simply can't fit (2 small cables at the in side of of the G5 computer - is this correcti cable?)
please advice, thanks for the help
    koh

One point to note: the current PowerMac G5 model (ie the one with the dual-core processor) cannot be used with the Airport Extreme card sold by the Apple store and dealers. This PowerMac G5 model requires a wireless interface adapter that is factory installed - and if yours was sold without that card installed, you need to order it as a service part from an Apple dealer.

  • ATI Radion 7000 for Mac PCI Card

    Hi,
I have a Beige PowerMac G3 running at 375 MHz and Mac OS 10.2.8. I have just added a brand new ATI card and the copmuter will start up, but when it gets past the grey Apple loading screen, it gets to the point when the loading screen is ready to pop up, it gets the little round spinning thing like when you shut the computer down and the screen turn blue. Before I put the card in the computer, I got the most update-to-date drivers. Can anyone help me?
The card has 32MB on the card

    Hi jarrett
What is sounds like to me, as I believe I had this problem when I installed that same card, is your computer monitor is still set to the on-board video. You can resolve this I believe in 2 ways. The first and easiest is if you have a spare monitor around attach it to the onboard video leaving your monitor hooked up to the radeon 7000 card. Then restart your computer and when it boots you should end up with your blue screen on the radeon card monitor and your desktop on the onboard video, open monitor and drag the display around so that the radeon is the #1 monitor. This should switch so that now your monitor on the radeon is showing your desktop.
The other way I heard about is doing a reinstall of jaguar, which you can do a archive and install so you don't lose all your information. If you don't have a spare monitor, try starting up off of your jaguar install disk and see if you can switch your monitor setting from there.
Post back with your results and further info Bill J

  • OS 10.4.3 & 3rd party Wi-Fi PCI cards?

OS 10.4.2 and Airport 4.2 'killed' PCI Wi-Fi cards from Linksys and others. Has anyone tested them with OS 10.4.3 to see if the problem has been fixed?
    Thanks

    Thanks Max,
I am thinking about downgrading from OS 10.4.2/Airport 4.2 if Apple does not soon get their act together about this.
I did go and put an Airport card in my Digital Audio, but I don't really care for it even though it saves a PCI slot. You may recall that Apple used a screwball proprietary pin out to the industry standard PCMCIA connector for the Airport card and then dumbed up the port to where it would not support the bandwidth of a Wireless-G PCMCIA card even if you got around the pin out problem (as pronounced by an Apple VP of something or other). I had been using an external antenna for my PCI card adapter because it gives me more options on the placement of my equipment.
The alternative is to buy one of the PCI card adapters that people have been posting as working with OS 10.4.2/Airport 4.2 and hope that Apple does not do something that renders them useless as well.
    Cheers

  • System profiler "information is not available" for PCI cards

After swapping two cards in their slots, I get the message system profiler "information is not available" for all PCI cards. Mac Pro 4 core 2.66, OS X 4.11 server. The cards are still working. I tried clearing PRAM, etc. Is this a hardware problem or just system profiler being difficult? Is there any way to tell?

That is a bit odd. Maybe try forcing kextd to run can resolve. You might be working off cached info and it is giving System Profiler a hard time. Run this command and then reboot:
    sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
That will update the modify time of the Extensions folder and trick the system into thinking you installed new drivers. This will force an update of the kernel caches when you reboot.
Not sure it this will do it, but best I could think of.
    Hope it helps.

  • Drivers for Belkin F5U220 USB PCI card

I am trying to install Belkin F5U220 USB PCI card into my G4. There are no drivers on the CD or Belkin's website. After installation, I connection Apple mouse. The mouse indicator was lit. But does not work. Where can I get drivers for this PCI card ? I read several posts here that this card worked on many systems. Wondering how it worked... Appreciate any help.

The drivers are built into the operating system.
Does the card appear in your system profiler?
When I plugged in my usb 2 card it just worked. From time to time I had to reset the pmu to get things reset properly but it has been 2 times in 2 years. (lots of 2's in my post, huh?)
Apple seems to have removed the link to the reset of the pmu so I'll give a readers digest.
    Open the mac
Touch the power supply case to ground yourself
Remove the battery and check the voltage (3.6V)
Press the pmu button (3/8"square box with a bb size button in the center). Hold it down for a 3 count. Don't press it more than one time or you will mess things up
    Replace the battery
Restart the mac with the usb2 card in it.
    See if that helps

  • Hetis G41 Supported PCI-card size

The G41 comes with a risercard for support of 1 pci and 1 pcie card. However i cannot see if there is room for a pci-card with a 12 cm wide bracket and print 7 cm wide and 14 cm long.
I hope it is not only for low-profile pci-cards.
Anyone, tried to fit a full hight adapter in this neat box?
From the AVL list i se amongst other a R4350-D512H V161, and from the picture of this graphic card i expect it to be on a 12 cm bracket.
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1640&maincat_no=130

The manual includes a frontal picture of the back side of the Hetis G41.  On that picture you can see the dummy brackets and also USB Ports and other standardized interfaces.  Take a ruler and measure the length of a standard USB interface.  Then measure the length of the port/interface on the picture in the manual.  What you now have is a ratio.  Measure the length of the dummy bracket and apply the ratio.  You should now have an idea regarding the size of the bracket that will fit.
The brackets on extensions cards are usually just screwed onto the card PCB.  Replecements brackets should be available somewhere.  I have a PCI Wireless Card here which came with a smaller replacement bracket for smaller cases.  In a worst case scenario, you could modify the bracket yourself. Unscrew the bracket from the card, cut it and then match the two halves with a tape to meet the appropiate length.

  • IPod 30GB will not work with 3rd party USB 2.0 PCI card

I've had an IOGear PCI USB 2.0 card (GIC220U-BIO) in my Sawtooth for some time now, and have been using it flawlessly with my Canon i860 printer, and Canon LiDE 30 Scanner.
Just recently I received a Video iPod (30GB) and wanted to take advantage the high speed USB bus offered on that card to sync my iPod. The problem is, when I plug in the iPod to the USB port on that card, I get the transparent gray box telling me that I need to restart my mac by pushing the reset switch, or holding the power button for several seconds (in other words, freezes).
The iPod works fine with the built-in USB ports (albeit slow), as well as the high speed port on my iBook G4. Why am I getting this error? There are no drivers or firmware updates for this PCI card available.
    Is there a solution?

Yes, use a different USB 2.0 PCI card, like from Sonnet. I use a Sonnet in a G5 and it works great. There are (at least) 2 USB chipsets and I find the TI ones are great and the other not so great.
The fact it works on 1.1 and the 2.0 on the G4 at least tells you it is not the iPod and a USB 2 card is $20 or $30 at the most.

  • PCI card

I have a PCI card in my old G4 power mac. When I tried to fit it in my newer mac, which is a powermac g5 - the card doesn't appear to fit. It's a PCI card, but the little notch is in the slot to put it in. Is there any cure? This is a Delta 66 - enabling me to hook up my tape player to my computer and recording voice with music. Is there any help out there? Thanks

    HI-
Your machine is a dual 2.5GHz PCI-X model:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermacg5/stats/powermac_g5_2.5dp.html
The expansion slots accept PCI or PCI-X cards with either 32-bit or 64-bit address and data buses.
The expansion slots support universal and +3.3 V cards, but not 5 V signalling. The cards are required to use the standard PCI fence described in the specification.
Note: 5 V keyed or signalling cards do not work in the Power Mac G5 computer.
The computer’s case has four openings in the back for access to I/O connectors on cards in the three expansion slots and the AGP slot. Each slot has room for a full size 12.335-inch or short 6.926-inch card. The numbering on the casing is 1 through 4 and corresponds to the label on the PCB. *Number one is the AGP slot* and numbers *two through four are the PCI or PCI-X slots*.
    PCI/PCI-X Developers Note
PCI or PCI-X cards cannot be installed in slot #1.
This is reserved for the AGP graphics card only.
M-Audio lists compatibility of the Delta 66 with most G5's, with a couple of exceptions:
    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=b9f145c1c2ef3fd398ae0c17b1a4c b48
There should be no physical reason for the PCI card to not be installable in slots 2, 3, or 4, unless the PCI card is 5V keyed.
