Longer Download times

Greetings again!
I, Dustin, have a nature photography business at web.mac.com/debo0062/iweb and some of my photo pages have long download times. Now in Photoshop I have saved each picture as a save for web and at a much reduced quality. I know that with 99 pictures on a page that can still add up. My question is why do some of my pages take so long to download over a dial up access? I have friends around the world on dialup and I would really like them to view the site let alone business contacts. Granted, I can reduce the number of pictures but, is there something else I can do to make the downloads faster? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And, have any of you used this site to estimate download times?http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ Please email me directly at [email protected] if you know something about this and are willing to share?
Thank you in advance for your help. Sincerely, Dustin

Here is some other information I do not understand but is avaiable to people via the optimizer check page I sent out on this thread. This is what reads out for my home page. Can anyone help me out here? If so, please either respond to this or send me an email about it! Thanks in advance for your help.
Analysis and Recommendations
TOTAL_HTML - Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 25 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 21 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests.
TOTAL_CSS - Congratulations, the total number of external CSS files on this page is 1 . Because external CSS files must be in the HEAD of your HTML document, they must load first before any BODY content displays. Although they are cached, CSS files slow down the initial display of your page.
TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 369695 bytes, which will load in 73.88 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider contacting us about our optimization services.
TOTAL_SCRIPT - Congratulations, the total number of external script files on this page is 2 . External scripts are less reliably cached than CSS files so consider combining scripts into one, or even embedding them into high-traffic pages.
HTML_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 11545 bytes, which less than 20K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your page to display content in well under 8 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback.
IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 332628 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS.
SCRIPT_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your external scripts is 23783 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your scripts for size, combining them, and using compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents.
CSS_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of your external CSS is 1739 bytes, which is less than 4080 bytes. This will fit into three higher-speed TCP-IP packets.
MULTIM_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 0 bytes, which is less than 4K.

  • HT1577 Why am I experiencing long download times for an HD movie rental from itunes?

I have been experiencing long download times for movie rentals from itunes (this time 11 hours).  I have even tried to use ethernet, turn off simultaneous downloads, and shut down my browser, to speed up the time but that didn't help.  My internet download speed is about 7mbps.  Any suggestions?

  • VERY long download times for movie rental

I tried to rent a movie for a recent trip and I was unable to download the movies to put them onto my ipod touch. The download times were 12 to 18 HOURS!!! I left the download going overnight and it still had 10 hours to go in the morning. I have a cable connection and I tried to download at home and again at the hotel that I was staying at. It was the same both places.
I am now heading home and still have not been able to download the movies. Of course the charge went against my account right away. Apple had no problem downloading the money!
Any sugggestions or ideas what may be wrong?

I was having the same trouble today with buying a movie on iTunes. I started last night to download a movie that was over 2 gb. It was moving very, very slow. I checked my download speed several times. I left my computer on overnight to download it. This morning, the files was at 110 mb downloaded!!! After tweaking and checking online for the possible fixes, I gave up and switched over to download via my laptop. It took about 14 minutes to download the darned thing. I think it might be that something is wrong with my desktop. Funny thing is, that I have downloaded a number of movies on my desktop with no problem, except for a rental that would not play long ago.

  • Amazingly long download times

I'm importing a 12 minute movie clip. The download time is going to be 166 minutes - almost 2 hours. That's a bit extreme. Is there anything that I can do to fix it? (the video is a .mp4 638x478 and 153.1mb)
Note: I have iLife '08, but I downloaded iMovie HD from the apple site.

iMHD6 is a DV-editor, meant to import from miniDV devices, handling 'dv-stream encoded NTSC/PAL..
your files have wrong res + wrong codec (mp4 could mean divx or similiar, playback-only codecs), ... = LOTS of computation to make iM to 'swallow' such a non-standard file..

  • Long download times in Apple TV

I'm now downloading an HD movie to my Apple TV which started at 11:30, it is now 3:00 and it is only 27% done. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to speed it up? I'm using the latest Airport Extreme device with a DSL line. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks
    Coach

Take a look at this page:
iTunes Store: Download times for purchases will vary
It should give you an idea as to what sort of download times you can expect, so you can determine whether or not what you're experiencing is normal. If you're on a DSL line that gives you less than 1Mbps, then an HD movie will indeed take a large number of hours, and there won't be anything you can do about it short of getting a faster Internet connection.

  • Is anyone else having long download times?

I bought an ipod for a trip and have been trying, since YESTERDAY, to download three movies. I STILL have over an hour of time remaining (a time which has barely budged). I have cable internet which is working very well.
Is this an itunes store problem? Is this a typical download time? If so, I just paid $350 for no reason because if I can't download movies, I might as well just use my nano.
    Very frustrated customer...

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • Long Download Times

Last night for the first time I tried to watch a TV show on my 2nd Gen Apple TV. I selected the show, agreed to buy it (no rent option) and was told it would be ready to watch in 2hours and 20minutes. What the ****?
I thought it would stream to my TV to watch, just like Netflix. For that matter how the heck is it downloading, which I assume it was doing? Where is it going? There is not storage in the AppleTV 2.
I did all the selections from the TV, my Mac played no part in anything here.
Someone please explain what this is all about?

The Apple TV has 8 GB of volatile storage.
netflix is adaptive and is much lower quality than iTunes movies.
The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this atwww.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • Has anyone experienced long downloading times for moutnain lion

hi has anyone had any difficulties downloading mountain lion...or found it very slow and long

1.5 days here to download on high speed. I'm reading reports all over the internet that there is something wrong with App Store speeds. Go to another site, and everything loads lickety split.
What is happening to Apple these days? From killed battery life on Macbooks, to a poor Maps release, to iPhone issues, to software mishaps like FCPX, to sweatshop slaves jumping off the roof because of Apple manufacturing conditions in China... This is not your daddy's Apple company any more. Quality control is becoming about as good as your B & D toaster.

  • Long download time, and content disappears when downloaded

I just spent over 16 hours downloading a movie through Home Sharing. After the download had completed, I went to watch the movie and it had disappeared. I am authorized to play the movie, and searched my computer for the file, but it seems like it has retreated into the dark corners of my hard drive. Is there anything I can do to get it back other than re-downloading?

Instead of searching your computer, have you tried searching iTunes using the search box at the top right of your *iTunes Library* window?
I suggest this because the filename of the movie could be very different to the movie name, so searching for a movie called "Star Wars" in Windows Explorer may not find it if it's called "Episode IV". Also, a movie could be located in Podcasts, Movies, iTunes U, depending on what it is and how it has been tagged by the producer.

  • Has anyone had extremely long download times for music, like an hour for a single song?

Has anyone had extremely slow downloads of songs, like an hour?

    UPDATE
It appears that though the progress bar looks stuck on "Step 1: Gathering info..." that Match is going through my library and adding "Purchased" songs first. I have 2,000+ purchased songs and after enabling Match on my laptop I currently have 1152 songs available to me in the cloud. SO, I am happy to report that it appears to be functioning, just happening way slower than I anticipated. As Michael posted above..patience is definitely a virtue in this case! It's been way over 12 hours, but again, happy to report it is working.

  • HT1725 I can no longer download music from itunes store.  Happened when I was Downloading from songs dragged from itunes store to a playlist.  I tried to downloaad more than one at a time.  The download stopped.  Now I can not download at all.

I can no longer download music from itunes store.  It happened when I was trying to download songs dragged into a playlist.  I tried to download more than one at a time.  It stopped.  Now I cant download at all.  Even rebooted my machine.

OK thanks I will try that. I just don't understand why I still can't download new videos as I've deleted the software I installed and I've changed my camera settings back to what they were before when I could download into iPhoto. I perhaps should have mentioned it's iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. Is there any way of putting iPhoto back as the "default download and view" programme?
It could be as simple as longer (larger) videos - iPhoto does not always handle larger video files well
Is there any way of putting iPhoto back as the "default download and view" programme?
iPhoto is not a download and view program - it is a photo management database program that imports photos - Image Capture is a download program - Preview is a view program
The default program to download your photos is set in the preference panel of either iPhoto or image capture

ok so the download problem with my iphone.. what could be the cause of that? ive restarted and deleted the "undownloaded app" over 10 times already. and restarted the iphone 10 times... next thing i know i cant install itunes on my laptop.... geez man..
obviously there is a fix which someone will help... but why should i have to go through all that crap to install a so called uncomplicated software... when you think about it this really shouldnt even be an issue.
normally if the thing dosent work. normally with most programs you just uninstall the uncompleted software and just reinstall and everything is usually good to go.. help!

ive never had any problems with ap[ple products in the past... this is a first and a stupid problem if you ask me

Did you go on-line and fix your billing information? You probably need to do this from iTunes on your computer, not your phone.
If you've double checked your credit card info and it still won't take it, contact your card issuer.

  • Since downloading Maverick I have a long hang time, computer crashes, can't use word and I can't access finder, why?

Since downloading Maverick I have a long hang time, computer crashes, can't use word and I can't access finder, why? Also, iTunes is horrible. While I'm listening to my music iTunes will just stop playing the song for at least 5 minutes and I can't force quit why does it do that? This is the first time I have ever felt like my iMac is just as bad as a PC and I wonder if Steve Jobs would have let the program be relase to the public with all the problems involved. No wonder Maverick was free. IT ***** BIG TIME!

    Hello, vanvu.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Since you are experiencing this issue with both a wired and wireless connection only on your home network and not at other locations, this issue would related to your router.  I would first recommend power cycling the router and testing the connection again.  If the issue persists, try updating your routers settings per the article below.
