Look and Feel : Metal !

I'm working with "design" in JBuilder, all components are "Swing" but when
i run my program then it's not display in Metal model, it's display in Windows model.
How i do to my program display in Metal model? Please eveyone help me!

That's because JBuilder uses the native look and feel each time. You can comment out the lines in the code JBuilder is producing that are responsible for the LAF.
If I may, a piece of advice... Forget JBuilder's designer! It's crap!

    Hello,
    I have two basic questions I can't find the answer to. I hope someone can help.
    From my understanding of Java 1.5 you now have 2 basic themes to them metal look and feel, they are "Ocean" (the default) and "Steel". Is this understanding correct?
    My second question is, I can switch between Look & Feels, ie. default to system, how do you switch between themes though? I want to use "Steel" but can't !

    I use a robot to simulate a F2 when a column is in focus in a JTABLE so that user can just type without having to type the <F2> key.
    My question is:
    Is F2 (to get a column in edit mode) for JTABLE standard for all look and feel (metal, X-windows ..) ?

    I am trying to get the metal look and feel which was the default look and feel from 1.4. I used the following code.

    Ocean is the new default theme for Metal. Use

  • Setting the Brushed Metal look and feel for macs using Java.

    Hello,
    I am relatively new to Java and I am new to Mac-specific java stuff. Anyways, when I try to set the look and feel of my classes to the "apple.awt.brushMetalLook" look and feel, I am unable to. It works if I have System.setProperty("apple.awt.brushMetalLook", "true"); written before I create any swing component. This would be fine, except that means that it is impossible to extend any swing component, such as JFrame or JApplet. Is there a way around this?

  • Problem With ButtonUI in an Auxiliary Look and Feel

    This is my first post to one of these forums, so I hope everything works correctly.
    I have been trying to get an axiliary look and feel installed to do some minor tweaking to the default UI. In particular, I need it to work with Windows and/or Metal as the default UI. For the most part I let the installed default look and feel handle things with my code making some colors lighter, darker, etc. I also play with focus issues by adding FocusListeners to some components. I expect my code to work reasonably well no matter what the default look and feel is. It works well with Motif, Metal, and Windows, the only default look and feels I've tested with. What I'm going to post is a stripped down version of what I have been working on. This example makes gross changes to the JButton background and foreground colors in order to illustrate what I've encountered.
    I have three source code files. The first, Problem.java, creates a JFrame and adds five buttons to it. One button installs MyAuxLookAndFeel as an auxiliary look and feel using MyAuxButtonUI for the look and feel of JButtons. The next button removes that look and feel. The next button does nothing except print a line to System.out. The next button installs MyAuxLookAndFeel as an auxiliary look and feel using MyModButtonUI for the look and feel of JButtons. The last button removes that look and feel.
    The problem is, when I install the first auxiliary look and feel, buttons are no longer tabable. Also, they cannot be invoked by pressing the space button when they're in focus. When I remove the first auxiliary look and feel everything reverts to behaving normally. When I add the "Mod" version, button tabability is fine. The only difference is I've added the following code:

    }That strikes me as an odd piece of code to profoundly change the program behavior. Anyway, after adding and removing the "Mod" look and feel, the tababilty is forever fixed. That is, if I subsequently re-install the first look and feel, tababilty works just fine.
    The problem with using the space bar to select a focused button is more problematic. My class is not supposed to mess with the default look and feel which may or may not use the space bar to press the button with focus. When the commented code in MyModButtonUI is uncommented, things behave correctly. Even the statement
    button.getInputMap().remove( spaceKeyStroke );doesn't mess things up after the auxiliary look and feel is removed. So far I've tested this with JRE 1.4.2_06 under Windows 2000, JRE 1.4.2_10 under Windows XP, and JRE 1.5.0_06 under Windows XP and the behavior is the same.
    All of this leads me to two questions.
    1. Is my approach fundamentally flawed? I've extended TextUI and ScrollBarUI with no problems. This is the only problem I've encountered with ButtonUI. My real workaround for the space bar issue is better than the one I've supplied in the example, but it certainly is not guaranteed to work for any arbitrary default look and feel.
    2. Assuming I have no fundamental problems with my approach, it's possible I've found a real bug. I searched the bug database and couldn't find anything like this. Of course, this is the first time I've tried seasrching the database for a bug so my I'm doing it badly. Has this already been reported as a bug? Is there any reason I shouldn't report it?

  • Problem setting look and feel

    It seems like I'm not able to change the windows xp look and feel, I'm using this code to change it but nothing happens, the window comes out with windows LAF:

    That was not the problem, but thank you...
    I finally noticed the problem, what I was trying to do was actually done by writting this:
    JComponent.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
    Sets the OceanTheme feel on, but I noticed that when you try to use it with a Jdialog and a JFileChooser you get some ugly colors. Orange/Brown with JDialogs and Green with JFileChoosers. Is this a bug or it's ment to do that?
    Does somebody know how to fix it?

    I'm changing an exiting applet to have a local look & feel by simply doing this:
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); When the JFileChooser shows with the "metal" (java default) Look&Feel all is good but when it shows with
    XP (or windows) L&F it has added a "panel" on the left side with icons for "My Recent Document" , "Desktop" , "My Documents", "My Computer" and " My Network places".
    I really don't want them showing since it looks weird on the HTML page.
    Does somebody know if and how I can get rid of that "panel" and still have the rest of the L&F intact?

    I am writing a simple swing program that when the user clicks a button corresponding to a look and feel name ie "Metal" etc. the Look and Feel is Changed, it works great except for one problem, it will not change to the "Metal" look and feel, I believe this to be the default look and feel, but when changed to another, it will not change back. Any suggestions?

  • GUI Look and Feel

    Hi,
    I am developing GUI's with SWING and I am developing on a Windows XP machine and all my code no matter what I do looks like Windows frames. Is there a trick to get everything to look like "metal" look and feel? I tried numerous techniques that the java tutorials say will alter it but it never does... Is it somthing with XP?

    After a bit of peliminary swing hacking...
    overide javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalTitlePane.SystemMenuBar.createActions() to return a subclass of the exisiting Maximise action that sets to corrected dimensions.
    subclass createTitlePane in MetalRootPaneUI to return your new class
    then set the metal UI to use your new new RootPaneUI and stand back and feel smug!
    I don't need to do this, but this should work!
    HOWEVER... exactly how you decode where on teh screen the taskbar starts/ends is anybody's guess.

    I'd like to create my own java look and feel and I wonder if a tool that allows to create or customize my laf exists ? What's the better or faster way to do so ?

  • Delay in applying Look and feel on jDialog

    I am working with java1.4 / OS as windows Xp.
    Recently i came across an interesting problem regarding look and feel.
    Actually my syatem llok and feel was windows and i set swing application Look and feel as Metal. Now whenever i am launching any dialog on my awing application , The dialog appears in windows LAF for few nenoseconds and then changes to Metal.
    Even if if check the llok and feel just before launcing the dialog i am getting Metal as result
    Can any one help me out about what might be going wrong ?

    I've never noticed this before. (I guiess my eyes aren't good enought to spot something for a few nanoseconds)

    While not in the tutorial, I have found several other things necessary to get the look and feel change to be complete. Here is the code I'm using after I set the look and feel. It seems to do a pretty good job of sync'ing everything together.
