look at the film, the fan is very loud
because someone has a solution

Watching a movie (film) puts a big load on the processor.  The fan has to speed up to keep the processor from overheating.  Put the MBA on a hard flat surface to get maximum cooling efficency.

  • By using iPhoto an Switch, the fan become very loud.

    Hello.
I have the brand new MacBook Air 2013, with Intel i7.
Now when i using iPhoto an Switch, then the fan become very loud.
In iPhoto i have the problem, when i look for photo's.
When i change the bitrate of an mp3 in Switch, than the fan speed up i make a lot of noise.
I have make an SMC reset, but the problem is still there.
Anyone with the same problem, or have a fix for this.
    Thanks.

You fan operates when a temperature threshold is reached, it sounds as if there is a slight noise, that one of the locking screws that bolts it is vibrating against its screw-hole or the board.
Call apple or go to the store and see about an exchange, I dont know how loud it is on your machine, but it should not be "making a lot of noise". Its sounds like an off balance bearing in the fan hub,......but without hearing it, i cant determine if its THAT problem, or merely a bolt rattle holding the fan assy. in place

  • My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) keeps freezing, the fan becomes extremely loud and the laptop gets very hot, what can I do?

    Hi there,
I would be grateful if any one could help me. I purchased my MacBook Pro  13 Inch in August 2011, it was the "Early 2011" version, which was shipped with Lion (I have now upgraded it to Mountain Lion last year).
Up until a few weeks ago, it was running fine. But recently my MacBook keeps freezing (A circular rainbow appears on the cursor), slowing down, the fan gets very loud and I often have to restart the whole machine. This usually happens when I'm running programs such as Safari, Preview or Microsoft Word
I only use my MacBook for university work so I only have Microsoft Office and iWork installed, nothing else. I've only used 19gb out of the 320gb available. I've also reseted my MacBook to its factory settings but that hasn't fixed the problem.
I've checked my AppleCare status and it says:
    Repairs and Service Coverage: Active
Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under a custom agreement.
For more information about your coverage, please contact us.
Estimated Expiration Date: 24 August 2014
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to how I can resolve these problems, as it is stopping me from doing my work?
    Many thanks.

Call Apple and make a appointment, backup your use data off the machine to a external drive.
Don't bother with TimeMachine if it asks, too long and likley be corrupted and unable to restore, just drag and drop your Users folder to the external drive.

  • Imac G5 will not boot up. there is power but the screen is black. About 30 sec after turning it on, the fan comes on loudly.

I have an old imac G5 (non Intel) The screen went blank but the fan turns very loudly. I cannot reboot the computer.  whenever I start it I get power and black screen and the fan comes on loudly after about 30 secs. I have tried rebooting pressing varius keys, but no luck. I once got the flashing question mark, but I can't get that either. I'd like to reboot from the disc, but I cannot insert a disc. Any help out there??

If zapping the PRAM does not get it working, it's time for a new iMac.  Repairs will not be worth the cost.  Put it towards a new iMac.
I've been there, done that.  Had my burial last summer.

  • My mac pro early 2009 graphics fan is very loud

I think something might be wrong with the video card. The fan is very loud at all times and gets louder on flash or video sites. The fan speed is usually double the other fans.

Try smc reset to see if the fan slows down.
Add something like iStat Pro (or iStat Menus, Hardware Monitor, etc.) to measure the fan speeds and some of the temperatures.  Note none of these can measure the video card fan speed directly but knowing the various temps might indicate why it's thinks it needs to rev up.

  • Mac mini fan is very loud when watching a dvd

    Hi,
Just bought a Mac mini (2GBRam 2GHz intel) and when watching a dvd the fan spins very loud which gets very annoying! Is this normal for watching dvd's on the Mini as I have a Macbook with similar specs and there is not much sound from that when watching dvd's. I installed 10.5.1 on the Mini and the Macbook still has 10.4.11...Any ideas?

The reset is always worth trying, just in case the problem is in the system controller. However, I'm not sure that I'd blame MacOS itself for the problem, because it does not appear to be similarly reported elsewhere. As such, I'd say that if you can't resolve this with a reset, you may find the next best option is an erase and install of Leopard, followed by downloading and installing the 10.5.1 update from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1051update.html
Of course, since an erase and install wipes the hard drive, it is essential you back up your data before you do this!

  • Satellite A300D - Fan running very loud and notebook is getting very hot

I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction as what to do with the overheating problem i currently have with my A300D. I have had the laptop for under a year so it is still under warrenty but i am not sure where to go or what to do in order to repair it.
The problem: Around two months ago I noticed the fan running very loud and also the laptop becoming very hot. Now it runs so hot the laptop switches itself off completly. The heat being fanned out of the laptop is so hot! burns your my infact.
Has any one any advice they could offer me.
    Thanks
    James

    Hi James
You wrote that you have the notebook under a year so my questions is did you already clean it?
The notebook should be cleaned every 3-4 months and I do this every 3 months. Every time I do it Im wondering how much dust comes out and after this procedure the notebook is a lot of cooler.
Here is an interesting Toshiba article about this:

  • One of my fans is very loud, while the other one is fine, is this an issue?

One of my fans is very loud, while the other one isn't, is this an issue?

    Hello there, Snake97.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a great step for fans running at full speed:
iMac: Fans run at full speed after computer turns on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1433
In order to correct the issue, reset the SMC. Your iMac should now start up and operate as expected.

the fan is very audible, and then winds down to almost quiet - why? how do i make the fans be quiet?

hi, re my fans, this issue is about 1 week old and the machine is behaving normally.  However...the bottom of the machine is quite hot (but it has always been quite warm) and I do have my battery settings in preferences set to high performance (uses more memory.)  Also, I often stream video thru Firefox while working on medium/large Photoshop Docs as well as leaving ITunes or Preview open in the background.  Also, I leave my MacBook on continually...it's 3 years old...should I be concerned?  Is this issue indicitive of a battery problem or Sudden Computer Death Syndrome?

  • My macbook pro keeps zapping me. even when the charger is not plugged in, my hands keep feeling tingly and the fans are running louder than usual

over the last two days since i updated my software, my laptop seems slower, the fans are running louder, and i keep feeling mild shocks (even without the charger). my hands feel really tingly and a little sore. what is going on?

    cheesecakeyumm,
have you tried resetting your MacBook Pro’s System Management Controller? (I don’t know if that would have any effect against  mild shocks, though.)

  • I just had the seagate hard drive replaced and the fan is running loud

I just had the seagate hard drive replaced and the fan is running loud

Is your iMac a late 2009 or newer model? Did Apple do the replacement or someone else? There is a documented issue where Apple changed the hard drive heat sensor from outside the drive to inside. If you install a replacement hard drive in a late 2009 or newer iMac that's not an Apple-sourced drive, two things happen ... the fan runs like crazy and the Apple hardware test doesn't work properly.
You can read these OWCS blogs here and here on it.

  • I turned my iMac on and the fan is so loud...never heard this before. any ideas?

I turned my iMac on and the fan is so loud...never heard this before. any ideas?

An SMC reset may fix it, although it may not prove to be a permanent solution:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If it re-occurs I'd suspect a failed sensor.

  • Imac shut off and the fan is really loud...

I have an iMac 27" i7, 16 gb ram. The screen randomly shut off and the fan became really loud. Tried turning it off and back on, but still did the same thing. Tried resetting the PRAM, heard the chimes, but then did the same thing. Is it overheated?

Check it. Install an app like iStat Pro to check the temperature, and post it here. There are different temperatures (CPU, hard drive, graphic...). If you want, just take a screenshot of the widget (holding Command, Shift and 4 keys, and selecting the widget) and upload it here, pressing the photo icon at the top of the reply box.
Apart, you should run an Apple Hardware Test extended test, to check if there's any problem with the iMac > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 If, after running it, it shows an error, copy it here, because the Mac has got a hardware issue
