Look up in Dictionary keyboard shortcut hot key broken

The look up in dictionary keyboard shortcut does not work.
The Dictionary.app and widget works.
Even clicking on the menu item:
Safari > Services > Look Up in Dictionary works.
Under System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts
I have "Restore Defaults", toggled the Dictionary checkboxes, reassigned to another shortcut.
if i "Inspect" Safari in Activity Monitor, the "Open Files and Ports" does not list
/System/Library/Components/DictionaryService.component
whereas, this component is listed on a Mac OS X box where the Dictionary does work.

yes on both MacBooks, in Safari, i moused over a word and pressed Cmd-Ctrl-D.
the service is greyed out in Safari until i highlight a word.
the file com.apple.KeyboardViewerServer.plist does not exist under any users home directory $HOME/Library/Preferences nor the system-wide /Library/Preferences
$ find $HOME/Library/Preferences /Library/Preferences -iname 'keyb'

Yoga - Thinkpad message receiver for shortcut hot keys and 30 % CPU usage after lock screen or sleep

Hi! After returning from sleep or lock screen a process called "Thinkpad message receiver for shortcut hot keys" starts using about 30% of the CPU. Temps go upo to 60-70 degrees battery is being depleted quite fast. This process doesn't stop until I end it using task manager. Once ended that way, it doesn't start again even if I use sleep or lock screen. Need help with this!
I didn't use to have this problem like a month ago or so. Probably came into existence after some updates.

I like to manually create lists when I take notes, so is there a way to create a shortcut/hot key for different symbols in the Pages inspector?

Not really a Pages user, but I am trying to make the switch from Word if I can figure out a few ways to customize Pages. I don't want to create a new paragraph style because I rearrange my lists a lot. I think there is a way to automatically create a custom list style, but I like to make lists manually because I frequently change things around. I would like to be able to manually add symbols. I know that Option + 8 will give me a bullet, but I would also like to use different symbols I found in inspector, like a black square and a black triangle. Anyone know if this is possible?

If what you're looking for is a more flexible way of quickly just including any symbol of your preference when you're taking notes (without establishing a more structured list like picas suggestion) there are a number of ways to use keyboard shortcuts to get a variety of symbols. CS4 Reset View Keyboard Shortcut (ESC key) Not Working

Every keyboard shortcut in Photoshop CS4 works fine for me except one: the keyboard shortcut to reset view after using view rotation (the ESC key). Oddly, the keyboard shortcut does work in CS5 (I installed the demo). I've checked to ensure my keyboard is set to US English, which it is. I've tried resetting the Photoshop settings, and even reinstalling. Nothing. This particular keyboard shortcut doesn't seem to be one that can be changed through the keyboard shortcuts menu, and I have never customized the keyboard shortcuts anyway.
Some more information about my setup -- I'm using an Intuos 4 tablet, and do use the wheel to rotate the view. However, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work when I use the tool with my mouse or the wheel on my tablet, so it seems unlikely this is the issue. Regarding my hardware acceleration, I have a current gen nVidia card with plenty of horsepower, and all other OpenGL enhancements work fine.

Have you ensured that Captivate has been updated with all service releases?
I could be wrong but I seem to recall a service release fixed this issue.

Cannot keyboard shortcut "return" key

I am trying to create a keyboard shortcut for the "return" key, I like to use it to "Go to sequence start"
Every time i press "return" when selecting a key to choose it just removes the window.
Any ideas?

you do not need to press return to have it accept the new key. click on the current keyboard shortcut you want to replace until it has a blue underline and then press the new key you want to assign. the new keyboard shortcut should appear and the blue underline should be gone. thats it, just click ok to accept it. i am able to assign the enter/return key to "go to sequence start" this way. you may get warnings if that keyboard shortcut is being used by another function, you can use the undo button if you change your mind about the new shortcut key, and keep the previous setting. or ignore the warning and hit ok to remove the keyboard shortcut from its old/previous assignment and keep the new setting.

Finder keyboard shortcuts switching apps - broken

Apple's finder keyboard shortcuts are overiding my app shortcuts.
For example:
In the finder... command-2 switches to Safari.
In the finder... command-3 switches to FireFox.
here is the problem...
In adobe illustrator the keyboard shortcut {cmd-2} should lock an element. In my case, it switches me to Safari even when the key command is used in Adobe Illustrator.

Keyboard shortcuts/missing keys?

Hi there,
I switched to Mac today from PC and am having quite a bit of trouble with the keyboard. Is there an equivalent to the Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys that I can use? I tried searching for help online but couldn't find anything.
I'm not sure if this is part of the problem but I have a French keyboard.

Welcome to discussions and Macs.
Is your keyboard an Apple one? If so, look at the keyboard, on your right, after the main querty part, will be two blocks of keys. The first block has F14,15 and 16, under that is; help, home, page up, then under those keys; delete,end and page down. The farthest right block is numbers etc.

How do you get the hot keys / keyboard shortcuts to work?

I have the free trial version of Photoshop. I am new to Photoshop, I am just starting to learn how to use it. I notice that some of the shortcuts/hot keys don't work.
For example, one basic hot key that does not work is the F7-key. The F7-key opens and closes the layers palette.
Another hot key that does not work is the spacebar. My teacher taught me to hold the spacebar down when you want to move the canvas around. When I am in handtool mode I hold the spacebar down, I then apply pressure on my laptops touchpad, I then slide my finger across my laptops touchpad in order to try and move the canvas, but the canvas does not budge.
Some shortcuts work. For example, tapping the F-key multiple times will expand and reduce the size of Photoshop.
Closing my web browser did not resolve the problem. Updating the software did not resolve the problem.
I am eager to learn Photoshop, but it's hard, and probrably a waste of time, to try and learn Photoshop when some of the softwares hot keys don't work. Anyone have a solution they can offer?

Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut for "Export book to PDF"? (Cannot find it in the Keyboard Shortcuts window.)

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut for the "Export Book to PDF" command on the Books panel menu, but I simply can't find that command in Keyboard Shortcuts. After not finding it in what seemed the logical place (Keyboard Shortcuts > Product Area: Panel Menus > Book), I've looked through all the Product Areas listed on the dropdown menu -- but it seems I must be missing something.
What do I need to do / where do I need to look to assign a keyboard shortcut for this command?

Sorry, I agree that that is missing in action. I don't know of a workaround unless someone has written a script. Scripts can be called with keystrokes.

Keyboard shortcut for filling layer with color are opposite on my PS CS6 OSX install, Help?

I'm a bit of a noob, and following a tutorial….and found something strange and wonder if you might help me figure what's happening.
I have Photoshop Extended CS6 on a macbook pro (late 2011).
I'm running OSX v 10.7.5
I'm following along and the instructor added a new layer. I did this.
He then filled the layer with white which is his background color (he has black foreground, white background). I have the same fore/background colors.
Now, I thought on mac that to fill with foreground color you hit Apple+Delete and to fill with background you hit Option+Delete
It is doing the exact OPPOSITE for me. I hit Apple+Delete (or even backspace) and it fills with my background color which is white
If I hit Option+Delete (or backspace) it fills with my foreground color.
I've tried looking in the Edit Keyboard shortcuts area…but I don't see these settings anywhere.
I do have an external keyboard hooked to my mac. It is a 3rd party one, but seems to work in ever other way normally.

I did do a Google and I got this:

And from that I got the option-delete was background, and apple-delete was foreground.

PPCC 2014.1 keyboard shortcut for source patching or track targeting???

Does anyone know if there's a keyboard shortcut for targeting tracks or else moving the "V1" and "A1" targets up and down the tracks in the timeline with the latest PPCC 2014.1 update???
I believe PPCC refers to it as "source patching". But looking through the vast keyboard shortcut list, I haven't found it.

Here's the shortcuts you want to be looking at... also Marks linked page has useful info on mouse operations.
The source assignment presets could prove useful too (although it would all get much easier if they would implement auto-patch...)

MagicPicker color wheel panel with keyboard shortcut?

There's a color wheel panel for Photoshop named MagicPicker that sits in the Window -> Extensions -> MagicPicker menu. Is there a way to assign it a keyboard shortcut? I found no way to do it in the Edit -> Keyboard Shortcuts... Thanks for any help!

You might be able to assign a keyboard shortcut (function key) by recording an action using Insert Menu Item
and then picking the color wheel panel from Window>Extensions and using the Action Options to assign a function key.

I'm editing the LabVIEW code of the full featured user interface. I'm not able to locate the part of the code that enables the shortcut hot keys like Ctrl+S, Ctrl+O.
I disabled the menu bar from VI properties. But I still find the shortcuts working.

There are some properties for the ApplicationMgr that you maybe able to use but it does seems to enable or disable.
I thought there was a VI at the start that sets up the menu items?
Have you checked out whether the user rights and privileges may do something for you?

Keyboard Shortcuts. What does ^ mean?

Having looked through all the keyboard shortcut pages, etc., I still have no idea which button on the keyboard refers to this ^ symbol. I thought it might be the number 6 - which has a ^ on top of it, but it's not... It's probably blindingly obvious, but i guess i'm not having a good day
Could someone please help me out?

Keyboard shortcuts problem issue after updating to 6.0.5

Directly after installing this update, Command+SpaceBar on the Mac no longer temporarily selects the zoom tool? Not sure what others keyboard shortcuts might be broken, but this is a very standard one. I have a book due on Monday!!! Any help would be appreciated? Thanks!
Not sure if related, but my computer started lagging and freezing directly after installing this update, and continues to the next day, even after repairing permissions, trashing prefernces, trashing SavedData cache, etc.

That totally fixed the shortcut issue!! Fixed in InDesign and Illustrator. Will keep you posted on the computer lagging and freezing issue. Our IT guy thinks it may have something to do the Adobe Updater itself. But we'll see.... thanks so much!
