  • Looking for a good beginner/intermediate Java book

    Hello everyone,
I am looking for a good beginner/intermediate Java book. I have taken a couple of Java classes (Beginner programming + beginner Java) and have a fairly good understanding of the basics. What I want is a book that is going to build on that as well as give me some good practical problems to work on while I'm doing so. Can anyone recommend one or two good books that would fit the bill?
    Thanks!

Those three books are all excellent, but are all beginner books. When it comes to intermediate books I think you need to go topic by topic.

  • I'm looking for photo editing software

I am looking for photo editing software that is fairly easy to learn and I also want the feature of adding a splash of color to a black & white photo.  I've seen there is Photoshope Elements and there is Lightroom.  What is recommended?

For editing an Image, as you describe, Photoshop Elements would be my choice.
There is also a very helpful, and active Ps Elements Forum, where you will find easy instructions on doing what you describe, plus much more. Should you go with Ps Elements, that forum is: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements
In general, if you have a Grayscale Image (B/W), just change the Color Mode to RGB, create a New Layer, and paint in the color that you want. However, since I do not use Ps Elements, there might be some extra things, that will help you get the desired results, and that Ps Elements Forum will be great at helping you.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

    Hi,
From your description, you want to achieve the following goal:
Configure Exchange to filter the attachments if the size is over 10 MB and store it in a public folder, and then forward the email to Salesforce.
Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that it can't be achieved. Exchange can filter messages with attachments, but it couldn't store these attachments on public folder automatically. Also, I don't see any transport rule can do it.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • Looking for simple search example using SELECT

Can anyone link me to an example of how to create a basic search page where the search criteria is selected in a drop-down list (<SELECT> in HTML)?
Here's where I'm coming from so you have a better idea of what I'm trying to do. I've created a search page by creating a method in my App Module java class using setWhereClause(), then dropped my view onto my web page as a read-only table, and finally dropped the method and parameter as a command button and input text field, respectively. This works fine, but I'd like to replace the input text field with a select box so that the users will not have to type in their search criteria. I'd like to populate the drop-down with data from a table, which will then be sent as the argument for the method.
I can create a ViewObject that contains the data I need, but I'm not sure where to go from there. I don't know how to create the drop-down list or connect the command button to the list. (Ultimately, I'd like to have the search text submitted when the drop-down changes, but I'll settle for pressing the button for now). I've fooled with using the LOV component, but without any luck.
Step-by-step would be great, but if you can point me to an example, some documentation, etc., that would be great too.
    Thanks,
    Andy

Excellent - Thanks for the link to the sample code page. I thought I had seen all the tutorials, etc. but for some reason never came across this page. The example you cited looks like it's just what I'm looking for.

  • Time constrain in Core Java...not using Threads

    Hi All,
I m designing a very small practice application in Java. I am running the program thru command prompt. Once the program starts, I want user t respond in certain amount of time, lets say 3 seconds.
I tried looking for some "TIMER" classes in java api docs.
most classes are used with Thread or MBean. I dont want to implement it this way.
Could anyone pls help me identify how can this be implemented in core java without any fency classes like Thread being used.
    Looking forward for response.

When the three seconds are over do you want the program to output "times up!" and proceed, or do you want the program to wait for as long as it takes the user to answer and only after they answer the program responds, "you took 7.9 seconds!"
