looking for a 12v charger for the 13" macbook pro

There are a number of 12V chargers available for the MBP but I prefer to use a 12V Inverter which allows me to use the provided chargers for my laptops and IOS devices both in-car and whilst out sailing.

I have a very old (by computer standards) MacBook Pro, and a newer one.  I've been using the old one mostly for iTunes, into which I have only CD entries.  For a long time, years, the old MacBook pro ceased entering the song titles.  This is very time consuming for me, so I finally investigated a bit further.
I discovered how to enter the track titles onto my newer MacBook Pro, and was so pleased!  But when I tried to do the same with the other laptop, it failed.
What I did, basically, was what the Apple Help suggested--choose iTunes General Preferences, etc.etc.  And yes, I did upgrade the old laptop to the newest iTunes version.
Am I just wasting my time here? Is there some reason why an older Mac Pro will not do what the newer one will, with regard to iTunes?
My older laptop is a 2.6 GHz Core Duo; it has 36 GB of "memory available."  The newer one  a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. It has 284 GB of memory available.
Both are using the same version of Snow Leopard--10.6.8.

    Simply restore from your backup.
You do have Time Machine running, yes?
Or you use some other backup program?

  • Is the 13" Aluminum MacBook (2008) the Same Size as the 13" MacBook Pro?

I just picked up a used 13" Aluminum Unibody MacBook and am looking to find a hardshell case for it. Wondering if the 13" MacBook Pro cases would fit?
    Thanks!

The two are the same outside dimensions. The only outer difference is the 13" MacBook Pros have an SD card slot.

I think that we all understood what you meant. If the extension cord is no longer working, then return it.
We are all trying to tell you that you can plug the power block into a standard household extension cord - using the short cord that came with the iPad - and there is no need for the extension cord that you bought.

  • Looking for new laptop what are the differences between pro and air? Besides size. Does the air preform like the pro?

Looking for new laptop what are the differences between pro and air? Besides size. Does the air preform like the pro?

The NEW macbook Pro and Air are EXTREMELY close in form factor
The newest macbook Pro is essentially a larger macbook Air with Retina display and options for speed in increasing prices up to an independent graphics and quad core processor.
both Air and new Pro now have PCIe SSD and permanent RAM.
The Air is the lightweight portable form factor, fast to boot and shut down, but with longer battery life than any of the macbook pro in 13"
Now the new macbook Pro and macbook Air are extremely close in form factor and nature.
    both have 802ac wifi
both have permanent RAM, no superdrive
both are slim profiles and SSD
The only real differences now are (in the most expensive Pros) faster processors and quadcore processors and top end model autonomous graphics.
....and of course the retina display
both are now "very good for travel"
Other than features the form factor of the Air and Pro are VERY close now,....so now its merely a matter of features and price more than anything.
You need an external HD regardless of what you get for backups etc.   Drop into an Apple store and handle both and make your choice based on features, such as Retina or non-retina, .... both at a distance now look like the same computer.
The Pro weighs more, ....but nowhere near what it used to just a month ago on the older macbook Pros
The NEW macbook Pro is a different creature entirely than the older macbook Pro, .....the new Pro is thicker than the Air, but id frankly call the NEWEST Pro a "macbook Air with Retina display" , or
Maybe a “macbook Air PRO with Retina display”
Instead of Air VS Pro now,.....its really a smooth transition from Air to pro without comparing say, 2 different creatures, now its like contrasting a horse from a race horse.
Either one in 8gig of RAM (preferably)... the 4gig upgrade costs very little,  the I7 you will notice only 15% faster on heavy applications over the I5, and NOTHING on most APPS.....I5 has longer battery life.
As you see below, the non-Retina 13" AIR is 82% of the Macbook with Retina display in resolution
there is no magical number of pixels per inch that automatically equates to Retina quality.

A huge internal SSD isnt a game changer for anything, you need an external HD anyway
what you WONT READ on Apple.com etc. is that the larger SSD  are MUCH FASTER due to SSD density

  • I need a good monitor for the retina macbook pro

What is a good monitor for the retina macbook pro. Im looking for 27 inch that is around the price of the thunderbolt display. The only thing putting me off the thunderbolt display is that i wouldnt be able to watch stuff on my xbox on it due to no hdmi.
Im going to university so it would be useful to be able to watch tv and play games on the monitor too but Im more interested in a monitor that will work great on the rmbp and on photoshop. I need to be able to calibrate it perfectly.

If I am understanding you correctly you should look at the 27 inch Samsung HD LED. Best Buy has it on sale for $340

  • Request for advice: TM/TC fails on one Macbook Pro, but not the other?

Dear All- looking for some advice.
Background: I installed a 1TB TC about 3 months ago to improve the wireless connectivity around the home/small business and to act as 1 stop backup- primarily for 2 main Macbook Pro’s. Everything seems to work fine, with the exception that the time machine will only successfully back up one Macbook Pro (my wife's) and not the other (mine). In fact I have NEVER been able to get a full successful backup for my machine since I bought my TC.
Scenario: My wireless router from my TC services 2 Macbook Pro’s, 1 iMac, iPhone, Sony PSP, Sony PS3 etc. All successfully and at a good speed. The TC also runs time machine for backups on the 2 Macbook Pros. One MBPro (my wife’s), has worked like a charm and flawless (pre Oct 2008 model 4.1, 2.5Ghz Intel core 2 Duo, 4GB (667MHz)DDR2 SDRAM, OSX 10.5.8, 250GB HD, 512MB video). TM Backup over wireless to my TC works great. While the other (mine) I have NEVER been able to get a successful backup once (MBPro post Nov 2008 model 5.1, 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB (1067MHz) DDR3 RAM, OSX 10.5.8, 300GB HD, 768MB Video).
Problem: I have tried a number different combinations of backup without success. I have diligently read numerous posts before coming here. My attempts include, preferences resets, full disk erases (re-named the disk several times), wireless connectivity, hardwired connectivity (i.e no other devices connected), some software running/ no software running, in sleep mode/without sleep mode, all at once backup or intermittent backups.
All provide me with the same message that it is not able to complete a full backup due to a writing error ‘Backup Failed’. At this stage I would not be convinced that the TC is actually working properly, with the exception that it works flawlessly with my wife’s Macbook Pro (yes every time I erase the drive) and that the wireless connectivity is great. My account preferences and setup/access for the TC/TM are identical to the machine that works. The volume I am trying to backup on my machine is ~258GB, while my wife’s machine that works is only around 78GB. I thought this may still be the source of the failure, but cannot see a work around or why.
Considering I bought the TC to allow a solid reliable backup, I am still unhappy and would like to continue to work for a resolve. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the discussions, xSDP!
Apologies if you have already tried this, but I couldn't find it in your detailed list of prior actions.
Note the exact name of your hard drive on your computer. If you haven't changed this, it will be named Macintosh HD
Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Click on the icon on the left side of the window that has the exact same name as your hard drive on the desktop
    Click Repair Disk Permissions
It will probably take several hours to do this, so allow plenty of time.
Once the process is complete, see if you can backup now.

  • Non-Glossy screen for the 13" MacBook Pro...the 13" MacBook Air has it!?!?!

Sorry if this has already been discovered, but I just realized.....Why isn't there a Matte option for the screen on the 13" MacBook Pro? The 17" has always had it with an upgrade, the 15" now has the option for the upgrade, but why not the 13"??? I was trying to think what it would look like and then realized.....it would look like the MacBook Air......RIGHT? Because the MacBook air doesn't have a black frame around the screen, and its not glossy, and is the same 13" 1280 x 800, so why not bring that option to the MacBook PRO? (On second thought, I'd also like to have a 1440 x 900 option even though the fonts will be even smaller! lol I love screen space!)

As someone with 20 years professional experience in digital imaging, both in video and stills, Photoshop retouching, Quark press work, and working with everything from Binuscan to Shake, having supervised thousands of press checks and taught thousands of personnel in everything from Newspapers to video Post-houses as a consultant and trainer, I love the glossy screens for the color saturation, rich blacks and fine detail rendition.
That said, the many years of glossy Sony, Barco and Mitsu/Lacie CRT screens have taught me to use hoods and proper lighting; this goes for matte LCD screens as well, where ANY pro color-critical work should be done with a hood, such as the Hoodman or Think Tank products. That said, I have no problem in airports, outdoors, etc. using any of my glossy screen MPS, I find a properly calibrated glossy screen on these to be, at least with the latest iteration of the glossy screens available on the Unibody MBPs, eminently usable for pro color work.
The point is, at least for me, that anyplace I'd need to worry about glare and reflections on a glossy screen MBP, I also have to worry about the same on the matte screen. For example, my wife now uses my previous generation MBP matte-screen 15" LED backlit model. This is the case when I use hers when out and about. Pro work CAN and IS done by many pros who PREFER the glossy screen MBPs to their matte screen counterparts, and manage to get pro quality work done more easily on them, as it suits their taste, and somehow manages to produce results avery bit as professional as pro users on matte-screen MBPs. I know I'm in the minority here, with regard to pros who prefer glossy screen MBPs to matte-screen ones.
Since I am, after all, in the pro minority, I agree that Apple NEVER should have removed the matte option, and I'd be happy to have, and think it's the ethical thing to do, Apple not only offer matte screens on all laptop products from now on, but that they RETURN to making glossy displays on MacBook Pros (and MacBooks, for that matter) an EXTRA-COST OPTION, and make matte screen displays the standard. That's the fair and logical thing for Apple to do, and I wouldn't mind at all paying for being in the Pro minority by paying an extra $50.00 USD, or even $100.00 over a standard matte-screen display in any and al of the Apple laptop line.
The matte screen's no longer what I use on my laptops for pro work, and i prefer it that way. But I know, too, that if Apple suddenly yanked the glossy displays with NO Option AT ALL of buying a MBP with a glossy display, I'd be freakin' livid. So I empathize with those pros, and anyone else, who prefers matte screens but who've been unfairly 'locked out' by Apple from paying the same as glossy screen laptops on the 15" and the 17" UMBPs and having NO glossy option on the 13" UMBP. Makes no sense at all, to quote Husker Du. ;^) BUT- pros who prefer the glossy display MBPs (I've owned all 3 unibody MBPs, with and without the superior quality latest-generation displays- the 13" MBP, the 15" MBP and the 17"), should, IMO, have at least the option to purchase the glossy display, at least as an extra-cost option. THAT would make the most sense, since the majority of pros who use UMBPs prefer the matte screen, and that vast majority should not only have the matte-screen option, but the matte-screen discount as well!

  • What cases are good for the new macbook pro retina display 15"

What folio cases are out there that don't damage the new macbook pro retina display 15" I keep looking but can't find any, they all seem to have serious negative reviews

be specific,  hard case or CARRY CASE?
hard cases are not recommended, trap in dust and junk and trap heat
A great carry case, and best made for the money are those made by INCASE as seen in Apple stores and amazon.com

It is really a matter of your personal preference. You have to choose between the extra carrying convenience of the smaller machine and the greater "real estate" of the bigger. I use a 15", and have not found it inconvenient for carrying, even on aircraft, where it has to share backpack space with an SLR camera and assorted lenses.
