Looking For A Camera For Our Church

I need to buy a camcorder for our church.  It will be used to show live video during services and to record special events such as weddings.  The main features I am looking for are:
(1) Flash memory
(2) Ability to handle low light conditions
(3) Audio input connection
That last item seems to be the challenge.  I want to be able to input audio from our mixer, but it seems that you have to go to to the high-end (> $3,000) cameras to get a line-level audio input connection.  We would like to stay under $1,000.  Does anyone know of a camera that would meet my needs and still be affordable?
Alternatively, could we use the external mic input and adjust the mixer output level down to a level equivalent to a condenser mic?
Your help would be appreciated!
THANKS

I think you already solved your problem in your description - use a lower end unit with a mic input and find an adapter from line-level to mic input levels.
I believe active XLR-to-3.5mm stereo adapters exist and are $100-200.  I see passive ones (not sure how well they will actually work) for $10-20.
For the camcorder itself, Canon's HF series are a good bet.  I have an HF100 and it's great.  Current offering that is likely your best bet is the HF200.  The HF S200 will be replacing it soon, however at a few hundred dollars extra.

This page (https://www.adobe.com/content/dotcom/uk/volume-licensing/non-profit.edu.html) suggests that we are eligible for discount BUT provides no information on pricing for me to present to the PCC for them to authorise purchase.  Any tips?

You have to contact a reseller and they will fix you up with a plan and verify your eligibility. That's just how it work. when you are eligible, the normal student pricing applies, give or take any extra discounts based on the number of licenses you buy, which would not apply in your case.

  • How Much RAM Do I Need in a Mac Pro to edit together hour-long videos for our church?

We need a new computer to edit video together for our services at church.  We broadcast these videos each week, so we use our editing computer quite a bit.  We also produce shorter videos for use online and in our services.  Looking at moving to a Mac, and I'm not quite sure how much RAM we should purchase in a Mac Pro to avoid long rendering times.  Obviously, we need to keep costs as low as possible, but we want something that will work, and last for a while.  Thanks!

The fastest 6-core is the "sweet spot" in the lineup. near twice the compute power of the entry model at only 1.5 times the cost.
6GB is fine for "regular" stuff you do on a Mac. Video editing without pain often requires more ... up to as much as 24GB if you can afford it. Apple's prices for this are quite high (like a convenience store). Many folks buy aftermarket RAM from Mac-centric vendors who can tell Users what modules will work in their Mac -- "guaranteed or your money back".
You can run as few as a single RAM module in 2009 and later Macs. So when adding, choose the densest modules you think you might EVER need, to avoid throwing away less-dense modules later.
You also will need at least one drive (preferably two) in addition to the Boot drive. Paging and program access to the boot drive wrecks drive access for User data.
You also need a Backup Drive. Big (but can be really slow).

We run an iMac 3.4 GHz I7 in our church worship service; we have front screens and a stage display monitor ; we haven't upgraded to Mavericks because we heard about issues with multiple screens crashing.  Has this issue been resolved?  Now that we are 2 upgrades behind, I'm getting little concerned.  Thank you!

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

  • I need Firefox 5 but can't find that download anywhere. Firefox 6 is not compatible with the CMS for our church website.

Our online church management software is compatible with Firefox 5 but not Firefox 6. I just got a new laptop and downloaded Firefox 6. When I found out it didn't work with 6 I found a download for 3.6. Now I'm getting messages from other sites (Quickbooks online) that they won't support 3.6 much longer and I need to upgrade to Firefox 5 or higher. So I have to go up to 5 but below 6. so getting a copy of Firefox 5 is my only option. Please send me a link to download Firefox 5.

There are parts of the CMS that don't work with Firefox 6. They do in IE and Chrome but I much prefer Firefox. Until they get their CMS updated to work with version 6, I need to go back to 5. And I can't undo the upgrade because I have a new laptop and the only options to load were Firefox 6 or Firefox 3.6

  • Wifi for our church campus

Ok. Our ultimate goal is to have 4 areas with wifi and hard wired Internet access on our campus.  The main auditorium where our tech room is located is central and also has all the network from campus to a 48 port hub and Internet..  Each of the 4 areas have at least one network wire to it.  We are running mostly new macs, but do have one PC.  Our Internet is DSL.  We have purchased Time Capsule, and 3 Airport extremes.  We would like to have 2 wifi logins on campus.  One secure for tech, band and staff.  The other for members and guests.
How is each device physically plugged to each other?
Can we use extended network hard wired or only wireless?
Is there a way to configure so tech and band on secure network have more bandwidth than the guests?
One of the 4 areas is 100 meters away, there is network cable to it, are there any options for this?

    Setup roaming network..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260
All AP's connect by ethernet.. one should be the main router.. all the rest are bridge.. and setup as per the doco.
There is no QoS on apple routers.. that is beyond their spec.
I would strongly advise using a Netgear WNDR3800 running gargoyle firmware as the main router.. and limit bandwidth via that.
That means all TC an AEBS become AP units only.

  • Broadcasting our church service

We are purchasing our first Mac for our church, and we broadcast our services through Ustream.  Can anyone tell me what adapter I need to go from the audio/video outs on the camcorder to the Mac?
I think I may have posted in the wrong section.  Please forgive me.  First time on here.

    Hello,
Might I ask what you were previously using to interface your camera to your computer?
Or better yet, what output connections does your camera support? (1/4", XLR, 1/8", HDMI, etc)
In order to capture video from the camera and interface it with uStream, it sounds like you will need a capture card.
These devices vary in quality, and Input/Output configurations.
If your camera supports live HDMI output from the camera, (or mini-HDMI with the use of an adapter cable)
You should be able to use a device like the Elgato - Game Capture HD.
    http://www.elgato.com/en/gaming/game-capture-hd
This device is made primarily for caputuring outputs from video game consoles, over an HDMI connection.
If you are looking for a more professional solution, with a wider range of inputs & outputs, I will suggest the Blackmagic Inensity series of products.
    http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity
This way you can interface with the software of your liking.

    Hi All,
I am the Secretary at South Reading Camera Club and we are planning next season's programme of events.  Last season we had a speaker from Canon UK which proved to be very successful and popular and I was wondering if there was someone from Adobe or the Adobe Community who would be interested and able to come and speak to our friendly group.
There is no specific topic we are looking for, and are open to most photography related topics.
If you are interested in finding out more please get in touch.

We've used the Logitech quickcam Vision Pro for Mac on our mini, with 10.6, and ichat, which has worked well. Looks like it's discontinued, however, a number of sellers on ebay are selling them new for $60-$70.

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling.  I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working.  I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4  base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords.  I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn.  The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up.  Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address.  When the AEBS is set to  bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS.  I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS.  In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding.  However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope.  What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have.  I've hit the wall with what I know.
    Thanks.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

  • Looking for a sports video camera that is compatible with the mac

Looking for a video camera that can record sports well and is also compatible with the mac. I've been using iMovie to edit videos for a highlight reel of my highschool soccer games that I coach.

I like Sony HD MiniDV (HDV) Handycam Camcorder - HDRFX1000, but I have also used several older Sony (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) and Canon (VIXIA HV20, VIXIA HV30, and VIXIA HV40) tape-based Firewire-equipped camcorders with good results.
I prefer tape-based Firewire-equipped cameras because of their IEEE 1394 transfer speed, compatibility with iMovie HD, and ability to serve as the source recording directly into iMovie when desired.  If none of these characteristics is important to you, other Mac-compatible camcorders with suitable zoom ranges and lens speeds for the light levels you encounter should also do nicely for recording at your games.
You do not say which iMovie version you are using, but you can find about known compatible camcorders by searching for the info in a search like this one.

Requires each device/user have an unique Apple ID(verifiable email address):

Otherwise you can use Find My Phone, but requires logging in for each separate user. Find My Friends(built by Apple) will show everyone's location on one device.
