Looking for a camera with no shutter lag!
Currently I have a KODAK normal everyday digital camera... Since I had my son, I have been very aggravated with this camera due to the shutter lag. By the time I press the button, in the 5 second delay, my son has already turned his head and all I have is a blur for a picture.
I am looking to get a new camera, possibly a DSLR in the price range of about $400-$450
I know the DSLR camera is big and bulky, but my pictures will totally be worth it!
Can someone give me any suggestions on which camera I should get?
Thanks so much!

No camera has zero shutter lag, but DSLRs have significantly lower shutter lag than most point and shoots.
You'll probably be fine with any of the entry-level kits (body + lens).
Note, a few things can contribute to a perception of shutter lag which aren't actually shutter lag:
1) Autofocus performance. DSLRs blow away point and shoots here due to fundamental differences in the way their AF systems operate (contrast detect in P&S or mirrorless vs phase detect in SLR - phase detect is MUCH faster). Nikon's SLRs tend to be the king when it comes to AF performance. With P&S cameras, this can often be worked around by "prefocusing" (on most cameras, pushing the shutter halfway down and waiting for "that moment", and some P&S cameras permit manual focus. (I got some great pictures at Sea World with a Panasonic DMC-LX1 this way - I was up in the stands so just set manual focus to infinity and shot away.)
2) Flash recycle time - Most cameras won't trip the shutter if the flash is in use and not ready. The builtin flash of SLRs is only a minor improvement here, but an external flash can greatly improve this performance aspect. Plus off-camera flash opens up a whole new world of lighting techniques - see strobist.blogspot.com

Looking for a camera with the flip photo capability of the iPhone~ any suggestions?
Looking for a digital (small) camera that would allow me to see myself when taking a photo without having to flip the camera completely around... Are there any suggestions on where I should start to look/recommendations? New to the camera world!
How much do you want to spend? What do you think about the D5200? With a DSLR sensor, the image quality will be incredible compared to an iPhone. Need more light? Just add an external flash.

Looking for a pager with advanced functionalities
Hello everyone,
I am looking for a pager with which I could put custom icons for the different workspaces.
I have an HTPC that is mainly used for three things: watching movies, playing music and browsing the internet. Therefore, I would like to have four workspaces, one for each of these and another one for administration. Since this is an HTPC, I'd like it to look good and I think it would be neat to have images instead of numbers/squares for the workspaces: a movie reel for the "movies" workspace, a note for "music", etc... I have been looking at pagers on the wiki, but most of the links are broken. I am currently running XFCE, but would install another WM for this. The idea came to me because I could do this on awesome 3, which is installed on my laptop, but my roommates are firmly opposed to a tiling WM on the HTPC.
If anybody can provide suggestions, they will be very welcome.
Cheers,
FrançoisHowdy-ha- flamirande. I don't want to be a total prick, as it's not my place; it's yours. Xfwm or Awesome will get the job done, won't it? You might be able to wow them if you get a universal remote and set up a proper lirc connection, letting them sit on the couch and have the power at the press of a finger. I have some friends with XBMC (the real thing--a dedicated, old-school Xbox hacked with BSD for all their media), and they're more satisfied with the results it provides than how it looks. Yeah, their Win and Mac PCs (both my friends' and your roomates') give them Facebook and YouTube, but yours gives them music, movies and tv and internet on demand, at a smaller resource cost and with a more versatile core and interface. If they're so touchy about polish, let them figure it out. I'm not just saying this as the sorry excuse for a computer geek that I am, but also as a person who's been dealing with many roommates for roughly a decade. I mean I don't know your situation but what do they think, the setup you give 'em is supposed to get them attention?
If these folks can't be satisfied by the fact that your system can provide them with a reliable, versatile, centralized, kick-ass setup that theirs can't, well...
More constructively: If they just won't have it...maybe openbox and tint2? You've got a low ram and cpu demand there, keeping music from skipping and video from tearing, if you work it out properly. Openbox has always been my choice for the right balance between polish and minimalism. -
Looking for a camera to take pictures of little (fast moving) kids
I am looking for a camera that will take picutres of my little ones (3 and 1). My old point and shoot (Nikon Cool pix I think) camera takes forever to focus and take the picture after I push the button so the kids have already moved by that time. And it also takes forever to 'record the picture' to be able to take another. I was looking at the Canon T3 or T3i. What are the real differences between the two? I used the compare feature on the website but that didn't really help me out.
You are correct to move to a DSLR for faster auto focus, faster response and faster saving images compared to a compact camera.
T3i costs more, has more resolution, and has a flip out screen compared to the T3.
You would be smarter to consider Nikon DSLR's for cross-type focus points for faster auto-focussing. Canon DSLR's do not have focus assist lighting which can have a harder time to autofocus in low light when indoors.

Go the store to try it out the DSLR's. If you want more auto-focussing, consider a good external flash, they have illumination lasers. -

Looking for a camera/camcorder to record presentations
I'm looking for a camera or camcorder that I can use to record a full day of presentations for my organization. The digital camera I have now can only record 10 minutes of video.
Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated! If you are going to record video all day, you really need a camcorder. In an ideal world, you would also have someone to run it for you. But, in case you can't, choose one that has a remote control (Sony's PJ650, for example) to allow you to start/stop and zoom. It has 32gb on board, and offers a SDXC card slot to accommodate up to a 1tb memory card.
I am a Best Buy employee, but I provide my own opinions. -

Looking for a handset with certain features...
Hi,
I want to replace my cordless DECT handsets (currently BT XC 200) with a new set. I have some specific requirements and having trouble searching for the specifications via shopping sites.
What I am looking for:
- 2 cordless handsets, or 1 fixed handset and 1 cordless
- DECT
- Need hands free and/or an ability to connect some sort of headset
- Dont need answer machine
- Need the ability to store long phone numbers and pauses into the phone. Looking for more than 35 numbers/codes. My XC200 does this - but the amount of numbers you can store is limited to about 20.
Its this last requirement that is tricky to search for as it is not specified on most websites.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
NeilHi A-Mo,
I'm very sorry that your husband's PowerShot SD1100 IS was stolen!
The SD camera line has been replaced by the PowerShot ELPH lineup. These cameras are improved in a number of important ways, such as better zoom lenses, and sensitivity to light for existing light photography.
I recommend that you consider the PowerShot ELPH 310 HS. This camera has an 8x optical zoom lens (vs. 3x for the PowerShot SD1100 IS), has a higher ISO of 3200 (vs. 1600) for low light photography and shoots video in "full" high definition (1920 x 1080 resolution) (vs. 640 x 480).
Please note: none of the cameras in this group of cameras includes the optical viewfinder you had on the PowerShot SD1100 IS,
I hope this is helpful.

Looking for computer compatible with Premiere Pro cs6
Hello everyone,
I am looking to invest in a new computer desktop that could support programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro cs6 and Photoshop cs6. I would like to go with a DELL computer if possible and I definitely need something that can support HD video editing. What would you recommend??
My budget is max 1500$. I have been looking at the Dell XPS8500 however the graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce GT640) is not listed in the tech specs required for the Premiere Pro cs6 program and I'm not sure if it's strong enough to support the Adobe programs. If it's possible, I would also like to have a re-writable BR optival drive, but it's not a necessity.
I will be doing a lot of video editing (I am a film student) and I will be using video footage from my Canon 60D.
Please let me know your best suggestions and if I should build my on PC, what do I REALLY need to be able to edit videos with ease (no lagging, etc.).
Thanks!

On a low budget, a DIY or a custom system. For under $2K, you could put together a nice DIY system as John did.
Decent Dell and HP workstations start at $3K, and on the low end, I'd recommend HP Z420 over Dell T3600. Decent custom systems (basically DIY but put together and supported by professional integrators) also start around $3K but offer more performance for the money vs. Dells and HPs.
Like Harm, I don't think XPS8500 is a good match for CS6.

Looking For A Camera For Our Church
I need to buy a camcorder for our church. It will be used to show live video during services and to record special events such as weddings. The main features I am looking for are:
(1) Flash memory
(2) Ability to handle low light conditions
(3) Audio input connection
That last item seems to be the challenge. I want to be able to input audio from our mixer, but it seems that you have to go to to the high-end (> $3,000) cameras to get a line-level audio input connection. We would like to stay under $1,000. Does anyone know of a camera that would meet my needs and still be affordable?
Alternatively, could we use the external mic input and adjust the mixer output level down to a level equivalent to a condenser mic?
Your help would be appreciated!
THANKSI think you already solved your problem in your description - use a lower end unit with a mic input and find an adapter from line-level to mic input levels.
I believe active XLR-to-3.5mm stereo adapters exist and are $100-200. I see passive ones (not sure how well they will actually work) for $10-20.
For the camcorder itself, Canon's HF series are a good bet. I have an HF100 and it's great. Current offering that is likely your best bet is the HF200. The HF S200 will be replacing it soon, however at a few hundred dollars extra.

Looking for a camera. . .
I was interested in the Nikon p80 but after reading some reviews Im not sure if its what I want...heard its not for people who arent experienced with anything other than point and shoot cameras.
This is what Im looking for, and reviews/advice would be helpful.
-good optical/digital zoom
-7/8+ megapixels
-big viewing screen
-efficiency in low light
-beautiful pictures
-easy to use or learn to use
-price range of about $300-$500Hey dt4d,
Although the Nikon p80 has a more advanced capability than the average point and shoot camera, it can also be set to operate the same as any point and shoot camera would. The most significant difference between the Nikon p80 and the average point and shoot camera is the lens on the p80 has a significantly more telephoto capability, which should allow you to shoot much more distant subjects. With $300 to $500 to spend there are very few point and shoot cameras that would be outside of your price range. When deciding what to purchase my first concern is always quality of construction, because when I spend $300 to $500 I want it to last a long time. In my personal opinion the best point and shoot camera on the market right now is the Canon G10, which retails for $499.99 on BestBuy.com. With the Canon G10 you would sacrifice some of the lens reach that the Nikon p80 has, but I feel like the quality of construction of the G10 outweighs the longer focal length of the p80. The Nikon p80 is also a great camera, and with a budget of $300 to $500 there are many options for you. I would suggest going to a Best Buy® store and start trying some out. I hope this helps out!

Looking for a webmail with multiple accounts support
Hi,
I would like to set up a webmail on my server which I will use to check my various mail accounts on gmail and others.
I tried mutt, alpine, claws-mail, but I don't really like "true" mail clients, I prefer to use webmails (so it can render HTML mails, and I can access it from anywhere). But since I have many accounts, I can't (and don't want) to use the gmail webmail.
So I'm looking for a webmail which could transparently handle multiple accounts from different mail providers. I will be the only one using it so I don't even need multiple users to log on.
Does it exists? What would you recommend? I don't know anything about webmails.
My server is running lighttpd, with php and python (webpy). I'm not afraid of modifying some of the code if needed.
Thanks.

My company is looking for a consultant with NKE experience
Hi
My company need to write an NKE in order to port our product to OS X. We've studied the documentation and example NKE projects and know what to do and how to go about it.
However, that's in theory, when developing for an OS on which you have no experience its always slower, and obstacles are encountered, and you can't be 100% sure the design is optimal, or won't create unanticipated problems.
So we're looking for somebody with proven expertise in developing NKEs who may be interested in some paid consultancy work on a per-need basis, activities could be design review, code review, guru to ask questions if something unexpected happens etc.
