Looking for a correct EDID for acer aspire 1690

Hi guys,
The EDID of my acer aspire got corrupted (the computer is pretty old).
If anyone has an acer aspire 1690 or similar model, can I get a dump of their EDID?
To get a dump, you need to install read-edid and then launch get-edid.
Or if anyone has tips on how to modify modelines to reduce scintillation, that would work too.
I know it's an old computer but it's the only one I have right and probably for a few months.
I would like to not kill my eyes.

I’m on my third G-Tech external drive and I love their quality. I simply grew out of one and gave it to my son. The new mini works great too although my MacPro doesn’t like it when I partition the drive. It tends to stutter a bit and can lock things up on the MacPro. Still, I plan on buying the G-Safe as soon as I can. They certainly offer RAID Enterprise units although I haven’t used them. G-Tech uses Hitachi drives as the company is owned or associated with Hitachi. Either way, they’re hard to beat.

I've just reinstalled Linux Linpus lite on my netbook and want to upgrade from ff2 to ver 3 but the files on acer's support website have been removed. The live update works but doesn't update Firefox properly. So I was wondering if you had an acer specific update file anywhere? The specific file I'm after is Firefox3.sh.zip. I;ve been in touch with acer and have had no luck....

That file was probably created by Linpus or by Acer specifically for their program repository and not available from other sources, Mozilla only offers '''tar''' packages for Linux.

That version of Linpus Lite may not even have the correct "packages" for Firefox 3+ versions, the key "package" is usually the GTK package being too old.

Linux on Netbooks only seemed to be popular for a short time here in the US, and IMO, Microsoft killed that "wave" by extending the date they allowed OEM's to sell WinXP Netbooks - until MS could come up with a Win7 Netbook OS. ''(That "date" was almost 2 years later than they allowed the OEM's to install WinXP on any other type of PC. The cost to OEM's was in the range of a couple of dollars, almost matching the zero-cost of Linux to consumers. "Smart marketing" or taking advantage of their "leverage" over OEM's and MS's almost monopolistic control of the OS market to OEM's?)'' As a result, there's little incentive for the various Netbook maker's to keep their Linux software repositories updated and to keep developing the operating system to keep pace with other Linux distros. I have an ASUS EeePC 900A, which I bought in Aug 2008, that came with Xandros Linux - Newegg offered me a WinXP OEM disk for $10 with the purchase of the EeePC. That version of Xandros Linux wasn't ever updated by ASUS to be able to run Firefox 3, but I found some Linux forum threads that provided a '''''sh''''' script that would both update the GTK package that Xandros needed for Firefox 3+ versions and install Firefox 3. After the update / installation was complete, I discovered how slow Firefox 3 ran on that old Xandros Linux operating system - it was worse with Firefox 3 than my old Pentium II 350MHz PC w/512 MB RAM was, even though the EeePC has a 900MHz processor and double the RAM (1GB). I dumped Xandros and installed the Ubuntu derived EasyPeasy OS, that came with Firefox 3.6 .
My advice is to install something like the Ubuntu Netbook Edition operating system, or one of the Ubuntu-offshoots like EasyPeasy; both of which come with one of the latest versions of Firefox, and are active projects.

I have successfully did a complete System Restore,which worked great. Bit I'm sure that some, ifnot allo, my drivers should be updated. Where do I get driver updates for Acer Aspire 5750Z. I have never done anything like this before so if someone could give an old man any advice as to how I should do it would be appreciated. Thank youG

Linux-one - kernel for acer aspire one

i'm recently bought an acer aspire one d255e and found the linux-one kernel in the AUR. linux-one
i would like to know what your comments, tips and improvements are.
i'm not the maintainer of the package just an user. I will try to build this kernel this afternoon and post some comments.
please feel free to comment if this kernel work in your acer aspire one and what modification you have done in the config to get your aao working.

I have a aao 532h with an Atom N450 processor and use the kernel-netbook package which also supports Atom N550 processors. It works 'out of the box' on my machine and the only thing I would think to check in the config for yours is support for your graphics which I believe is Intel GMA 3150.
I haven't tried the linux-one package as it's for the first aao netbook that came out which didn't have bluetooth.

RAM Upgrade Help for Acer Aspire V5-551-8401

I only see 1 RAM slot for my Acer Aspire V5-551-8401 and it has the factor 2GB RAM card loaded into it, yet my computer shows 4GB of total RAM, In not sure how. I'm running the factory installed Windows 8. Can I load a 4GB RAM into that slot instead? Am I just not seeing the 2nd slot? There appears to be soom copper thing screwed into the location where I would have expected to se a second RAM slot, and the copper continues up to the cooling fan. I wanted to increase the RAM to 8GB to see if it helps with performance (which is slow) but now became confused when I saw what I described above. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! Mark

[SOLVED] UMTS/3g (GTM382E) support for Acer Aspire AS3810TG

I still have to occasionally boot into Windows to be able to access the SMS on my laptop SIM card. I am using Acer's own tool read the SMS and occasionally send some. Is there a way to do this in my arch OS? dmesg tells me I have a Huawei device, and wifi does work which I think is on the same card. I am completely new to dealing with 3g modems, does anyone know if I can use this hardware in archlinux to read SMS on my SIM card?

Finally figured out a way, even though I would prefer wammu as it seems more advanced. Until I have a solution for wammu, here is what I did using gnokii, I will update the wiki accordingly:
$ pacman -Sy gnokii
$ mkdir -p $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/gnokii
(as this is usually ~/.config/gnokii, I will refer to it as so:)
$ cp /etc/gnokiirc ~/.config/gnokii/config
edit ~/.config/gnokii/config as follows:
port = /dev/ttyUSB0
At least for me it was this port, you may have to use /dev/ttyUSB1 or something else.
model = AT
connection = serial
Also, make sure you are part of the uucp group, for example if your user is called "x" and assuming you have sudo rights:
$ sudo gpasswd -a x uucp
$ newgrp uucp
The newgrp command allows you to take advantage of the new group assignment immediately without having to logout/login as lots of times it is suggested.
Then launch gnokii:
$ xgnokii
Click on the "SMS" icon button, a window opens up. Then click: "messages->activate sms reading". Your messages will show up in the window.

What BIOS update to use for Acer Aspire V5-571P?

Hello, On your picture, you can see "BIOS Version/Date: ...V2.17...". The right uptdate is the V2.18 (last version).

Your BIOS version should not matter when it comes to the operating system being 32- or 64-bit. I do see that the latest version of the BIOS for this system is 1.10 (can click link for direct download), if you are not using the latest version, you can at least make sure that all the fixes and updates would be present before installing your operating system.

Acer Aspire M3641-X223W - Full Hardware Specs

Hi All, I've bought the Acer Aspire M3641-X223W about 6 years (?) back. Now i want to use it for my homeserver (maybe upgrade some things). But i need the full in depth specs of the hardware. I know the general specs (4GB RAM, 640HDD, RADEON 3450, Intel Core 2 Duo E5200), but especially the in depth specs of the motherboard i couldn't find. For example the manufacturer (if this is not Acer), type / etc. Is there one overview where all the specs are mentioned? I could not find it that easy online or on the website of Acer. Thanks!

Help with Acer Aspire 4339 update. PLEASE HELP.

Okay, I'm already sick and tired of Acer. Since my warrenty is expired, I had to deal with terrible scam site called answersby.com that Acer RECOMMENDED. I cannot believe that they would actually share this TERRIBLE website to their customers. First of all, the live chat service only directed me to the same technician that would'nt reply to ANYTHING that I said. Not only that, the website itself is buggy and whenever when you try to send feedback, you'd have to click it like 6 times in order for it to send. Ha, and get this! There's many many people telling how that website scams people entirely. Anyways, diving into the CORE of my situation is that recently, I tried playing Sims 3, on this terrible laptop, and my drivers are outdated. (Horrah!) So I was like, okay, let's update. Come to find out, the updated drivers are 2011 which I don't even know why. Yes, yes I know. Acer Aspire 4339, so so old. But in order to actually download most things, you aren't able to update the Intel Graphics since it's customized by Acer. (Great!) *sarcasm* Also, whenever I try to update my chipset with the lovely Intel Update utility, I'm slapped in the face with errors. Went to Acer and my product, I can't download the chipset? I don't know. I'm confused on why there's OUTDATED software for Acer Aspire 4339. Not only that, I need an UPDATED version of Intel HD Graphics. The latest driver is literally from 2011. Come on. Why would the video card even be customized by Acer???? Ugh, if ANYONE can find me an UPDATE for Intel HD Graphics on the Intel website thank you, you've saved me from ripping my hair out. Since there isn't any updates, I won't be able to run MODERN gaming software on this computer. My Computer specs: Intel Celeron(R) CPU P4600Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (Pretty sure that's all you need.) My GPU is integrated, too. Since it's a laptop. I need to bypass this OUTDATED driver and get one at LEAST in 2012 and later. I tried so hard to avoid this forum, but Acer pushed me too far and now I'm here. So please, save my hair before I rip it out from the frustration that lovely Acer has given me.

bypassing custom Intel drivers is easy. check on programs/features if any Intel VGA drivers is listed and uninstall, if not...go to device manager, choose display adapters, right click your Intel VGA and choose to uninstall, deleting software drivers too. at next reboot, probably windows will be low res but you will be able to install the latest Intel original VGA drivers.

Looking for a particular color correction tutorial

I am looking for an online tutorial on how to do color correction if the video one is working with has color bars. This happens on a lot of analog videotapes that come to me. I know what my scopes are suppposed to look like when analyzing color bars, but I need something that shows me how to get from A to B.
If I Google some varient of "color correction video color bars," all I get is information on calibrating monitors.

HT201317 I guess photo stream made the photo tab in ITunes 11 unecessary; correct? I spent more than an hour looking for it.

is that correct? I spent an hour looking for it and thought maybe it was a glitch in the new app or ios.

However, I'm not sure what the itunes photos add, if one is using photostream.
The iTunes photos tab lets you download any photos that were on the iPhone before Photo Stream was introduced or do a total download of your iPhone's photos if you haven't done so previously. It's also for us "control freaks".
