Looking for a decent stylus smart board

I've never used one before, but I been told by lots of people they're great.  Can anyone suggest a decent stylus smart board for my 27inch iMac?  Not only will I be using Photoshop, but Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects and Muse too; just to name a few.  All around its mostly going to be used for Photoshop.  I was looking at the Wacom boards mainly and any suggestions would help a lot.  Thank you!

Well that's a new one on me, and I had to hit Google to find what a Smartboard is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartboard
But you mention Wacom, and AFAIK they don't make Smartboards according to the above definition, but rather what have always referred to as Graphics Tablets.  If that's what you are after, then it depends on your budget, but the Intuos tablets seem to be favourite (although I think Wacom have changed the name now — why on earth does it have to be so complicated?
I use a medium Intuos 4, but if I was shopping today, I'd chose the Intuos 5 Touch.  I'd like some sort of Cintiq, or the Companion, but the Cintiqs are too big to fit into my desktop and workflow, and the Companion is way too expensive for a souped up iPad thingie.
If you already have an iPad, take a look at the Adobe Ink & Slide (Pen & Ruler in English) Has anyone got one of these yet?

  • Looking for a decent high quality case for the Omni10 Omni 10

For anyone looking for the best case for the Omni 10 then this fits perfectly and is the best match for this tablet currently
    http://targus.com/uk/product_details.asp?sku=THZ200EU
In the UK, where I live, it is available from John Lewis

It appears that the Targus case has a cutout that would allow you to charge the device with the cover closed. The HP case doesn't allow for that.
I wrote a review here on the HP case. I wouldn't recommend it. I should also note that the HP store personnel chose not to make my review public...seems there's some selective editing going on there which means I will never trust any reviews on that site.
You can search here for my whole review, but basically the HP case has a couple of problems.
    1. It's very heavy for a case.
    2. The holes don't line up particularly well with things like the camera (no matter how many times you adjust the tablet and tighten loosent the velcro closure.
    3. The aforementioned charging issue.
    4. You can't have any cables plugged into the device while in Stand mode (probably also an issue with the Targus).

  • Mirroring my PC laptop with AppleTV for use with a SMART Board

I just installed an AppleTV in my classroom. My iPad mirrors onto my SMART Board via the appleTV, but I cannot do the same with my PC laptop.  Do I need additional software to mirror presentations such as power point, the Internet, SMART documents, etc.?

Yes, try a 3rd party program like Airparrot.

  • Im looking for the best stylus available for the ipad mini retina. for creative design

I am a designer and would like pressure sensitivity if available. I have seen the pogo connect which looks great but does it support the mini retina yet? Or the best alternative? I will be using paper and Adobe ideas. THANKS!

I agree with Miklos - the 53 is nice at first, but is awkward and heavy. It has a huge rubber tip and is stiky on the screen. I like the amPen Hybrid Stylus on Amazon. They are under 8$ and are a great quality stylus that actually works! They have the fiber mesh tips that can be changed out when you want a fresh tip. They also come in a variety of colors. Was able to get a stylish black on for myself and a pink one for my wife and daughter. We also got a 5 pack of the tips they sell so we ould have extras when we need them. The stylus tip is the best part though. It is soft and glides nicely on the screen. It is not stiky and clingy like the rubber tipped stylus pens you see these days. Link incuded. They even have free shipping! Can't beat that for under 10$

  • Looking for a decent music player

I know there is a lot of similar topics on forum, but no one did not respond to my question.
So far I have tried Exaile, Rhytmbox, Pragha, Decibel, Goggles, ... and so on.
They are all good players but have some critical flaws.
Exaile is maybe the best of them, but it is slow with large collections.
Pragha is fast and light but does not support pulse and multimedia keys wont work with it.
Decibel is next best thing after Exaile.
Goggles is fast, but ugly, media keys wont work, no pulse support and its GUI is confusing.
I have even tried mpd + GUI, but such option is just too complicated to setup for simple music player.
Okay, this is my personal opinion. What do you think?
I just need player with ease of use of Exaile but faster with large music collections.

I'd suggest you buy a faster computer with lots of memory and keep using exaile.
    Regarding GMM:
    1) media keys: we try to grab the usual XF86AudioPlay multimedia keys. If they don't work, it usually means they're already grabbed by some other application or desktop environment (I noticed this with gnome on a ubuntu installation). In case of the desktop environment, remove the default keybindings for those specific keys. Another case it might fail if the multimedia keys don't have the usual XF86Audio* keycode assigned to them.
    2) For pulse support you need a pulseaudio plugin for xine. Either file a bugreport with Arch to enable the building of the plugin, or create your own custom xine package.
    3) I'm always happy to hear suggestions to make the GUI less confusing.

  • Im looking for a stylus for Ipad Mini with a screen protector

Im a parent and looking for a (CHEAP) stylus that will work without some problems.
P.S - That this Ipad Mini has a case with a screen protector built-in.

Then you should have the information you need. There is not way to answer your question whether it will work on some unnamed case with a screen protector. Your best bet is to go to Walmart, Office Depot, etc., buy the cheapest stylus you can find, try it and return it if it does not work.

  • Looking for the Right Apple for me (a dumb Windows guy ;) )

Yeah, I'm a Windows person, but I'm looking to do some filming. Macs, I know, are the best at this.
I came into this particular board because I'm looking for a decent mac, but I'm a little broke (About to spend 1500 on a camcorder...so yeah).
I saw the G4 powerbook and thought that it'd be perfect. Now, my friends, I have a few questions for you.
I'm looking at errr...a site to buy a used mac(not sure if that is taboo on this site, so ignore what I said if it is) for a used mac.
I am either going to get a Sony DCR-VX2000 or a Pana
AG-DVC30, both are MiniDV. A) Is a G4 powerful enough (in your opinion ) and B) Do Macs have external DVD burners? Seriously, I looked and found nothing. Do they just come with them or something? Completely confused on that.
Yeah, I know I probably used wrong terminology, etc. and I apologize. I'm just tryin' to find a good computer to do video editting, etc.
Errr...okay that's all I can think of. Thank you in advance.
Not yet   Mac OS X (10.4)

You could do that, but when you want to do some
actual editing, it is better if you do it on the
    internal.
I disagree. The internal hard drive is only a 2.5" and is limited in throughput compared to an external 3.5" drive. Second, while the video-editing software is trying to read footage off the disk while editing, it will fight with the OS and the application over access to the disk heads. If there is insufficient RAM, then all three will additionaly fight with virtual memory transfers.
Whether the internal has the room or not, you'll probably get better performance by letting the internal drive handle system, vm, and application tasks, and leave the footage on a fast external disk like a 7200RPM FireWire drive. Then, if you are using Final Cut Pro for instance, you also set your scratch disk to the fast external (or preferably a completely different fast external).
It's fine to edit on the internal if you have the room and you must be very mobile, but I think that top performance will come from reading/writing footage and renders to external drives, probably hanging off both your built-in FireWire port and a PC slot FireWire card. You will then be able to take advantage of parallel read/write streams, and prevent your entire operation from being bottlenecked by a single, slow laptop hard drive. Note that the 160GB notebook drive is only 5400RPM. You will also extend the life of your internal drive by not hammering it so hard.
In a computer like the G4 which is so constrained by its low CPU and RAM ceilings, using fast external hard disks is one of the cheapest/easiest ways to maximize performance. I love my PowerBook but if I was going into video editing for a living I would go get myself a dual-core MacBook Pro immediately.

  • Looking for devices that can perform straight forward I/Q demodulation process

    Hi guys,
I am looking for a high speed NI board that can perform the quadrature demodulation (for a 20 MHz signal), I have looked through the web but so far I can only find 5620, 5660 and 5142.
    cos(wt) ----> Device under Test (DUT) -----> Acos(wt + theta)
cos(wt) is the original tranmitting signal (20 MHz). After it is passed through the DUT, amplitude change (A) and phase shift (theta) is then introduced into the output signal (the frequency still remains the same.) The purpose of this setup is to measure the amplitude change and phase shift, relative to the original signal.
Thus I need a simple I/Q demodulation board that can perform this job. Is there any NI board that one can recommend? Or is there a board that can generate the driving signal and do the IQ domodulation at the same time? I think 5620, 5660 and 5142 can only perform I/Q demodulation process...
    Thanks for the help!

  • Just looking for Final Cut Express, I find it replaced by Final Cut Pro X??

I was looking for a decent video editor for doing home camcorder clips, but with more control and options than iMovie.  I was expecting to find a boxed product with full printed manual and software on DVD but for the life of me I can't find it on the Apple Online Store.  Any help please?

Completely obsolete for people who can afford the latest equipment, perhaps, but for the rest of us still happy with our Standard Definition stuff it's perfectly adequate.  Maybe in five year's time, but not yet for me.
Optical media and cardboard packaging costs pennies, how is that not viable?  I like that Apple want to push forwards with technology trends but I think they are alienating people who can't afford super fast broadband or the latest HD camcorder equipment.  The broadband infrastructure simply is not yet in place here for that kind of world Apple is pushing for, the broadband suppliers are dragging their feet with little incentive to change.
I really love a lot of the things that Apple do, but some of them I really don't understand, this and Lion are two prime examples at the moment.  Too soon in my opinion.

  • Looking for a case recommendation - special requirements

I just moved up to an i4 from an i3G, and I'm looking for a decent case to protect the entire phone. I really need something for a rugged environment, and it has to have a belt clip. I have a very active job so this isn't going to be a pocket phone or sitting in the center console of a Rolls Royce. I have a Speck Tough Case on my 3G, and besides the extreme shock protection, it completely covers everything on the face except for the display. Spec makes a "Tough Skin" for the i4 but it doesn't cover the upper area of the faceplate like their Tough Case did for the 3G.
    Any recommendations?

You should take a look at Fatpaint (http://fatpaint.com) - Free online graphic design and photo editing application, specialised in giving you the tools you need for creating designs and illustrations for iphone cases, ipad cases. The bcase brand is Speck, and is of great quality.

  • Need an app to edit and sign word documents (sign with stylus)! Notability let's me sign but doesn't pull up letter head, quickofficepro let's me edit but not sign. Looking for an app that does both

I am looking for an app where I can edit word documents as well as sign them.  I am a physical therapist whose looking to cut down on paper work.  Someone types my evaluations and then we print them out for me to edit by hand and then they go back and make the corrections on the computer then w print them and sign them to send off.  Recently I have begun using apps where I can pull up the document and edit it thru quickofficepro or through cloudon, but I cannot sign them using a stylus pen.  I also have notability which I can use to sign the documents, but it doesn't save the document as a doc, it's either a PDF or rtf. Also, in notability, it doesn't pull up the letter head for our company which is a template with our logo on it.  So I need an app where I can both edit and sign my documents by hand using a stylus.  If someone could provide me with any relevant information I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for your time.

    Hi,
Pages for Mac OS X, the topic discussed in this community won't do it.
I think you'll have a better chance for a useful answer in either the Using iPad or the iPad in the Enterprise community.

Are you sure that the "On My Mac" folders weren't empty? If all your mail accounts are IMAP, they may have been.

Hi, I'm currently browsing the web looking for a case that is compatible with the smart cover for the iPad 2. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to read all opinions! Thanks!

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.

I don't believe it will open a Word document, but Writepad allows for handwritten conversion of notes to text and then to email. Might help you some of the way...
