Looking for a filter (or methode) to eliminate echo

I made an audio record in a big hall (or church) with only spoken text thus much to much echo...
Now I am looking for a filter (or methode) to eliminate that echo.
I tried all the audio-options in fcpX but could not find one.
The speech-echo has to reduces to normal, (living)room sound.
How to do that?
Thanks!
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
This is a diffcult problem, but there are ways to make it better.
First of  all, is your recording stereo? If yes, then mix the left and right channels to mono, and that will reduce the amount of reverberation from the hall.
The other trick is to use an expander or gate filter to reduce the volume of the audio in between the spoken words. Adjust the threshhold carefully so that no words get cut off.
In the future, the best thing to do is get the microphone closer to the person speaking. This is why people use lavalier mics attached to the person's clothes, use a boom pole and shotgun mic to get as close as possible, or take a direct feed from the sound system if it's amplified.

  • Looking for simple "hide/unhide" method...

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a way to hide/unhide specifically targeted divs.
    Example :
    <a href="hide_div1, hide_div2, show_div3">Link</a>
    <a href="hide_div1, hide_div3, show_div2">Link</a>
    <a href="hide_div2, hide_div3, show_div1">Link</a>
    <div id="div1">Test 1</div>
    <div id="div2">Test 2</div>
    <div id="div3">Test 3</div>
    Know what I mean?

    You are correct, the problem was not what I thought it was. It was a z-indexing issue, which I've fixed. So the link you provided ended up being great for my purposes.
    Now, how difficult would it be to add the fadeIn/fadeOut jQuery behavior to this?
    Current code :
    function HideContent(d) {
        document.getElementById(d).style.display = "none";
    function ShowContent(d) {
        document.getElementById(d).style.display = "block";
    function ReverseDisplay(d) {
        if ( document.getElementById(d).style.display == "none") { document.getElementById(d).style.display = "block"; }
        else { document.getElementById(d).style.display = "none"; }
    http://api.jquery.com/fadeIn/
    http://api.jquery.com/fadeOut/
    I honestly don't know enough about jQuery to integrate the fade intelligently (or in any way that would actually work).
    In other words, when hiding an object, don't have it instantly disappear : have it fade out. When showing it, same thing : fade it in.
    This would be all kinds of awesome.

  • What's the best audio filter and settings to eliminate echo?

    I shot an interview in a hallway. What's the best audio filter and settings to reduce/eliminate echo?

    There isn't one. You will be trying to remove the same frequencies as those you want to keep.
    Reshoot it, strategically position some heavy drapes and use close miking such as a lav and reliable monitoring quality headphones.

  • Looking for Video Filter

    Hi all, I've seen a few videos where they used a filter, kind of a blinking effect. When the blink filter matches the music, it looks pretty cool. Do you know which filter that maybe on FCE? Or is that a add-on? I've tried the blink filter on FCE, but I don't think that's it. Is there a similar effect that's more popular?

    Here's a great tutorial describing exactly how to use the blink filter to match a musical transition:

  • Looking for an old videotape filter

    I'm looking for a filter that when applied makes my video look like old videotape. Wrinkles, rolls etc. I already have the filter that makes it look like old film but its not quite the look that I'm looking for. Any ideas where I can find one?

    Thanks for the suggestion, Tracky, but that's not exactly what I was looking for, thats more of an old film look instead of a worn out video tape.
    After looking at my version of Final Cut Express 4.0.1, looks like I don't have the Bad TV filter either.....bummer.

  • Looking for a good method or APP to have client sign a form in a text box

    I am looking for a good method or App to take an existing form/Document and have a client sign, date etc.  I will want to create the text boxes in a stationary location.  Possibly to also take a picture to add to form.
    Has anyone used any apps to accomplish this?
    Apps I have tried.
    Signnow
    Sign PDF
    Sign Easy
    Sign Easy is about the best except the signatures (text boxes, dates, etc) are free floating and confuse people where to add them on form each time.  Clients have no clue how to use it.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.  I may be over complicating this also, as there could just be a PDF app that I utilize.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • Looking for a "color pass filter"..Remove all colors but 1

    Looking for a "color pass filter"..Remove all colors but 1 or 2.
    FCP6 doesn't seem to have one.
    Anyone heard of one that works really well & that is fast to use?
    steve

    Jim,
    You are totally missing the point. I am an Adobe Premiere Pro instructor. I have been for 5 years. I added my 1st FCP system 2 weeks ago & am experiencing typical transitional curiosities as all who switch to other platforms & editing apps do.
    PP has a color pass filter. I was curious to see if FCP did. That sounds logical to me:) If posting the question about the possibility of there being a color pass plugin bothers you, well , that has to do with you.
    If you take a moment to read the prior correspondence, you might see my point.
    I think we can bury the hatchet now:)

  • Looking for a 58mm protective or UV filter for a Canon Macro using a Cannon MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite.

    Looking for a 58mm protective or UV filter for a Canon Macro Lens EF using a Cannon MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite flash unit.
    The lens has an external groove for the ring flash pawls, but filters I've found do not.  The external diameter of the filters does not allow the ring flash pawls to reach the lens groove.  I either need a filter with an external groove or one with no part larger diameter than the threads.  Any ideas?  Thanks, Tom

    Which lens are you using?  This adapter will work, so long as the front element doesn't rotate.

  • Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

    Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road while driving. For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
    I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

    Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
    Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
    You don't like it.
    You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
    Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
    For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
    For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
    For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
    As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
    I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
    (They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

  • Looking for best way to filter status or meter data from differently formatted text.

    With the product we design we are able to communicate via RS-232 ports. What I'm trying to do is filter out the data that is given by multiple differnt types of products that will give similar data back, but in a differnt format. Such that in a status command I'm looking for everything to be in a non failed state. But some items will show warning, failure, #.##w(for warning), or #.##f (for fail). But the format of each product is different. Also for a meter command I'm looking for a way to filter out just the numeric value for each phase amplitude, but once again the format will be different for each product. I have been able to pull this data out easy enough for an individual product but not on a wide product range with the same VI.

  • Looking for a 'step filter' plugin...

    Essentially I'm looking for a step based filter plugin that works in a similar way to Delay Designer, whereby you can define the cutoff/resonance/pan etc within a grid, thus giving complete control over where, when and for how long parts are filtered.
    This would be a pretty cool plug I think and I've looked before but not found anything. I like the simplicity of Delay Designer too so I don't want to get lost in features I don't need. Does anyone know of such a thing? I have Reaktor if anyone knows any user files, but I always find it a bit complex and painful. Otherwise I'm prepared to pay for something if it's decent.
    Cheers

    This has a 128 step sequencer for filtering and panning:
    http://www.camelaudio.com/camelspace.php
    Also the Ensemble "Vierring" in your Reaktor factory Library has fantastic filtering features as each of the 4 filter bands can be linked to it's own step sequencer plus many FX options.

  • Java.util.Date deprecated methods, looking for new ones

    Hi,
    I can't find anywhere.
    I'm looking for Date methods, exactly like
    getYear();
    getDay();
    but i don't want them being deprecated.
    I want to get an INT out of a Date (Year, Day, ...)
    please give me a link, name of a fucntion or something.
    Thanks

    Look at the API docs. It says that you have to use the methods in java.util.Calendar instead.

  • Looking for  beep(frequency,duration) class method

    These 2 last days, I had already posted topics about this subject , but I was certainly not very clear in the topic header. (or even about what I was really looking for).
    Is there a package somewhere I can download which contains a class with a beep method to fire a sound at a particular frequency and for a specified duration ?
    System.beep() does not allow to change the frequency.
    Thanks

  • Looking for simple waveform filter

    I am using E series board using single ended input to collect 16 channels of constant value data, (ie 10volts). The data has a small amount of noise and outlying data points which I need to remove. I am attempting to implement a simple low pass filter. I attempted the Buterworth and FIR filters. The code I have attempted based upon the help examples unbundles the waveforms, filters the data, and rebundles the waveforms. This produces a discontinuous waveform when ploted. Addtionally the filtered data looks like a sine wave with an amplitude ranging between zero and the bias of the constant input data dependent upon the input parameters fo the filter. I'm looking for an example code that filters a constant signal with outlying da
    ta points and small amount of noise. I cannnot use a average because the outlers are all on one side of the average value and will bias my data.
    Thanks for the assistnance

    Brian,
    Can you try a running average using shift registers? With this, if the latest point is over x% outside of the running average, then do not include it. Since your signal is "constant," then frequency filters will probably not help you. See the attached example in LabVIEW 6.0.2. The interesting part of this example is that you need to know what your expected value is. If this is unknown, then one must do a bit of statistics (probably through histogramming) to get an initial average value.
