Looking for a lens that will take sharp flower, bug photography, but also sharp portrait pictures. Thank you!

Incidentally, a true "macro" lens (1:1 image scale meaning image on the sensor is the same size as the object being photographed in real life) provides the best performance.
There are other ways to do close-up photgraphy.
You can use "close up diopters" -- these are filters that thread onto the front of your lens (like a jeweler's magnifying loupe). They're much less expensive, but not as versatile and you may notice the image quality around the edges of the frame aren't quite as good.
You can use "extension tubes". These are hollow barrels (there is no glass in an extension tube) that are mounted between the camera and lens. You attach the extension tube to the camera body (as if it were a lens) then you attach the lens to the extension tube. They're not very expensive. By moving the entire lens farther away from the sensor, the entire focus range of the lens is shifted closer (the lens can now focus on subjects much closer than it could previously manage focus -- but also can not focus all the way out to "infinity" when the extension tube is in use.
When doing very close photography the depth of field gets extremely narrow. If you lock focus, but then your body moves forward or backward -- even by just a few millimeters -- then you'll throw off the focus on your intended subject. A tripod is a very handy at preventing that accidental shift.
Since the depth of field is so very narrow, it may not be possible to capture some objects completely in focus from front to back. Part of a flower may be sharp... but other areas quite out of focus. To resolve this, you can take multiple images and manually shift the focus just a very tiny bit each time. The set of images can be combined using "focus stacking" (Photoshop does this as part of the "photo merge" capability.) There are stand-alone programs that do focus stacking as well. You can also buy a device which mounts on the tripod called a "focus rail"... the camera is mounted on a short "track" ... perhaps 6" long. The rail has a knob on it with index marks and allows you to carefully move the camera by precise distances for each exposure.

There should already be a lens profile for that lens included in camera raw 8.7.1 and lightroom 5.7.1

Looking for lightroom lens profile for tamron lens

I am using lightroom 5 at work and shot some images with a canon 5d2 body with tamron 24-70 2.8 vc and tamron 70-200 2.8 vc lense. According to the note below, both lens are supported since lightroom 4.1. However I can not find the profile of these two lens on lightroom 5. Does anyone how I can bring the profile back in? Thanks.

The ProgramData folders are for Photoshop and are probably as old as the newest version of PS or DNG Converter you have.
The lens profiles for Lightroom 4 and 5 are under LR's Resources subfolder:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom x.x\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0\
(x.x = whatever version of LR you have)

Looking for D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm Lens Profile

I would think by now someone would have posted this lens profile but I can't find it for the life of me, sorry. I am sure this has been discussed to death but I have downloaded the lens profile creator (haven't figured out how to use it yet) and the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader (doesn't seem to have any third party lens data for the D7000). Any help would be great.
On a side note I am also looking for a lens profile for the Pro-Optic 8mm f/3.5 fisheye, which I knew would be even harder to find, but if anyone has either of those I would greatly appreciate a link to download the profile. Thanks, Scott

There are only Nikon brand lenses in the dB, nothing from Tokina, and nothing for the 11-16mm.

Looking for an extender that is compatible with my Can EF75-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens

I have a Canon 5d mii camera and had purchased a Canon EF lens : 75-300mm : 4-5.6 IS USM many years ago for a Canon t90 and would like to get an extender (tc) for the DSLR and lens. I have looked at the compatibility charts for the Canon 2x and 1.4 tc but I do not see this particular lens listed. Can anyone suggest where to find out whether or not I can purchase a tc for this lens or not.. Thanks much ~mmstar

like Jgordon24 said, you cannot use Canon TC. But you can use third party one like ProOptics or Kenko. But your camera AF may not working.

Looking for a sports video camera that is compatible with the mac

Looking for a video camera that can record sports well and is also compatible with the mac. I've been using iMovie to edit videos for a highlight reel of my highschool soccer games that I coach.

I like Sony HD MiniDV (HDV) Handycam Camcorder - HDRFX1000, but I have also used several older Sony (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) and Canon (VIXIA HV20, VIXIA HV30, and VIXIA HV40) tape-based Firewire-equipped camcorders with good results.
I prefer tape-based Firewire-equipped cameras because of their IEEE 1394 transfer speed, compatibility with iMovie HD, and ability to serve as the source recording directly into iMovie when desired. If none of these characteristics is important to you, other Mac-compatible camcorders with suitable zoom ranges and lens speeds for the light levels you encounter should also do nicely for recording at your games.
You do not say which iMovie version you are using, but you can find about known compatible camcorders by searching for the info in a search like this one.

Looking for a 58mm protective or UV filter for a Canon Macro Lens EF using a Cannon MR-14EX Macro Ring Lite flash unit.
The lens has an external groove for the ring flash pawls, but filters I've found do not. The external diameter of the filters does not allow the ring flash pawls to reach the lens groove. I either need a filter with an external groove or one with no part larger diameter than the threads. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

The issue with the A1400 is that like most economy compact cameras, they will not have very fast focus times in indoor lighting situations. Many people have gone to entry level DSLR's (Canon T3i) or micro 4/3 cameras. They are fairly expensive, but a late model refurbished T3i can sometimes be found with a kit lens for about $300.00. With Auto and scene modes, as well as full manual modes, these are very versatile cameras that focus very quickly, even in lower lighting situations. Canon is not really into the micro 4/3 cameras, instead they are focusing on the new G7x and G1x cameras, which are way out of your price range. The A720 is still available used at some places such as KEH camera, but you'll need to check often as their stock changes constantly. Obviously the DSLR's don't use AA batteries, but the T3i is good for about 600 photos (or more) per charge.
My refurbished DSLR was practically brand new condition when I got it. I could not find any sign of wear at all, so I feel they are a real bargain. These are rugged cameras that are made to last. The A1400 is a $99.00 camera, so it's not intended for heavy usage, plus the image quality of a DSLR (even entry level) is far better than the A1400. That would be my recommendation.

Hello, all. I'm new to this group, and as a PC technician I hate knowing that what I'm about to post has, I'm sure, been asked a thousand times before, but time is of the essence here:
Anyway, as I said, I'm a PC tech. NOT a photographer! My girlfriend, however, is a budding photographer, and I know she wants a new camera. Birthday is coming up, so I figured that would be a good investment; I know she needs one, and if she gets one, that means more pictures for ME! Everyone wins. I was hoping I could get some advice, based on what I know, as to what I should be looking for. She does primarily black and white photos, or color photos that she changes to black and white, and then uses photo editing software for manipulation to do artsy, kinda gothic, avant-garde-bordering-on-the-abstract stuff. Most of what she works with are either "self portraits" or pictures of someone else. The vast majority, in fact, are of people. Whether they remain looking like people after she's done her thing is a different story. Many of these are taken by candlelight or moonlight, as she has a flair for the gloomy. She's not at all new to photography, and at 36-years-old, I can't see buying her something insulting, but I also don't want to mortgage my house for a camera. Perhaps something in the two-to-three hundred dollar range? The closer to two hundred, the better, and I realize that you get what you pay for. I also know, though, that a lot of what you pay for is the name on the box. I used to sell guitars, and am well aware of how that game works!
Any ideas? Leads? I assume that, being mainly portraits (as it were) that the more pixels the better. But since I don't have a clue in this arena, I thought I'd ask.

Well from your discription, she sounds like she would get more use out of a DSLR. I know they arent in the price range you want, but they are alot better than P&S's. Since she likes to take low light shots, something with low noise at higher ISO. Check Craig slist for used ones. Been seeing alot of people selling off Nikon D80's and Canon XTi's due to them buying the new Nikons and Canons. Nothing wrong with these older models. Most ads I've seen are averaging $400-500 for the camera and lens with some extras like spare batteries.
As for megapixels, I've printed 11X18's from my 6MP Nikon D70 that look pretty much similar to ones printed from my 12mp D3 with the same lens.

How install it ? – click the launch button. Motion 5 will start itself. When Motion is open click save as. Write a generator name - Lens Flare and choose category RGB HOUSE or make it. Click Publish and you are done. If you don’t have Motion 5 look at support site - how to install in FCP.
How it works ? – In Final Cut Pro you will find in Generators RGB HOUSE group, where will be Lens Flare. Drag this generator above all clips in timeline. When it’s there remember to change blending mode to Screen (in video section). You can adjust color, steak color, glow, intensity, scale - apacity and blur of artifacts, position. Any parameter could be stored as a keyframe, so You can easily animate the flare.

Looking for a handset with certain features...

Hi,
I want to replace my cordless DECT handsets (currently BT XC 200) with a new set. I have some specific requirements and having trouble searching for the specifications via shopping sites.
What I am looking for:
- 2 cordless handsets, or 1 fixed handset and 1 cordless
- DECT
- Need hands free and/or an ability to connect some sort of headset
- Dont need answer machine
- Need the ability to store long phone numbers and pauses into the phone. Looking for more than 35 numbers/codes. My XC200 does this - but the amount of numbers you can store is limited to about 20.
Its this last requirement that is tricky to search for as it is not specified on most websites.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm very sorry that your husband's PowerShot SD1100 IS was stolen!
The SD camera line has been replaced by the PowerShot ELPH lineup. These cameras are improved in a number of important ways, such as better zoom lenses, and sensitivity to light for existing light photography.
I recommend that you consider the PowerShot ELPH 310 HS. This camera has an 8x optical zoom lens (vs. 3x for the PowerShot SD1100 IS), has a higher ISO of 3200 (vs. 1600) for low light photography and shoots video in "full" high definition (1920 x 1080 resolution) (vs. 640 x 480).
Please note: none of the cameras in this group of cameras includes the optical viewfinder you had on the PowerShot SD1100 IS,

Problem is the image circle on a EF-S lens is made to fill a crop sensor not a FF sensor, which is why crop bodies will accept EF and EFS lenses but FF only accept EF lenses. EF lenses project a circle big enough to cover a FF sensor.
Put an EFS lens on a FF and assuming you don't hit the FF mirror against the back of the EFS lens, you'll have heavy vignetting because the EFS lens doesn't cover the entire FF sensor. If you don't crack your mirror, you would have to do some pretty serious cropping.

I use a Canon MPE-65 almost exclusively and can't find a profile for this lens in the LR 5 lens correction panel.

Is Adobe planning to add this lens profile? Or is there a workaround?

I don’t think Adobe can make lens profiles for this specialized macro lens.
Lens profiles correct for geometric distortions and vignetting, and both of these change based on subject distance, aperture, focal length and for this lens, the 1x-5x zoom setting.
Lens profile files consist of a series of corrections for various combination of the above.
For a lens profile to be created the lens has to communicate the subject distance, focal-length, aperture and zoom level to the camera and the camera has to record these in the EXIF data so that Adobe products can read it these parameters and look up the matching correction.
I don’t have this lens, but I am reading that it is a manual lens which can mean that there is no communication of lens settings back to the camera. Is this true, at least for some of the settings? If so, then Adobe cannot match a lens profile with the lens settings and a lens profile would be useless.
If you always shoot your macros with a few combinations of your settings there’s a possibility you could make your own lens profiles and match them up, yourself, based on notes you take at each session.
The Adobe Lens Profile Creator, that is available as a download from Adobe, uses checkerboard patterns. It would be necessary to create very small ones for this lens, if 5x really makes a grain of rice full-frame.
