Looking for a linux that fits Oracle

Hello!
I am a student and im studying Oracle in Sweden. To this date i have been using Oracle on Windows and i want to change it to Linux now.
I am looking into Fedora since the company i am gonna do my practice at are using Red Hat (and i cant pay for it), so it feels like a good choice.
But some of my friends have been using Oracle+Fedora together and it seems to be aloooot of problems, and even tho there is guides out there; there is still problem.
What would you recommend me to do? I Would be glad if u could provide me with guides :)
I am gonna use Oracle 10g, and my candidades for nix are Fedora and SuSe

It took Oracle over 1 month to actually get me a CSI number that should have been sent out automatically when I paid. I finally got one after multiple phone calls and much time on hold. Even then I had to convince them that I did not lose the email. Not a very good way to run a railroad. I asked the person who finally gave me the CSI to reset the counter so it started today since I had yet to receive the CSI. She told me politely that she could not do that. Basically blew me off. As you know, the only reasonably priced support option for an individual user is network. Therefore telephone support does not even enter the discussion.
I pretty much found nothing worked correctly with Unbreakable Linux Network. Silly me, I expected it to work something like RedHat Network since that was what they were replacing. When I wanted to add new software such as Trac, I tried using synaptic etc to load software and was always told that the object was not found. Doing exactly the same thing with CentOS 5.2 produced great results.
As I mentioned before, I have worked with Oracle since the early 90s. Metalink is not a good thing to do to anyone just wanting to update their Linux. To say it is exhausting finding the correct software would be an understatement. When I am working at a client on million dollar databases, I don't mind how tedious this can be. When I am working on a personal Linux box, this is unacceptable. I should be able to locate and install easily and OEL is far from that. CentOS using the same software is much easier to add software and keep software up to date. If you really want to see this done right, take a look at Linux Mint.

You can probably spent all day searching in https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/ or http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/index.html for information about this topic. Finding relevant information appears to be difficult.
The information you are looking for is about configuring the Linux Audit subsystem. There are some rules examples in /usr/share/doc/audit*

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.

looking for a crop that will allow me to keep all the heads the same size. Iam a School photographer and have been looking for a crop tool mask out liner ect that will alow me to crop and see that head sizes remain the same throught out a job can any one help with this question?

I *think* I'm understanding that Eisenray is asking. Similar to the crop overlays, like Grid or Spiral, he would like one with an oval, to help hi better size the heads in the photos. I believe in each photo, the heads have to be the same size.
What he *could* do, is create a rectangle with an oval punched out of it. He could drag the image to an 8x10 300ppi document, and that rectangle can be overlayed on his photo, then he can shrink/enlarge the photo to fit the oval...if that makes sense.
It's difficult to understand, do if I'm wrong, please let us know, Eisenray.

Looking for some assurances that I haven't made a mistake switching to Mac.

Bought an intel-powered IMac 9 days ago and love everything about it's look, functionality, etc.. Only problem: I've had a bout of "Application has closed unexpectedly" occcurrances while using Safari (while at AOL.com deleting emails from aol account) and while editing pics in iPhoto. As this happened time and again, I got a sad, sinking feeling that I'm headed for the same frustrations that I've had w/ every Windows machine I've ever owned. Ugh!..I switched to Apple for the specific purpose of avoiding crashes!!! Apple support walked me through steps to fix (removed/updated Quicktime, and check a few other things..). They were very helpful, but... I absolutely detest having to do this. Other than Office:Mac, i've added nothing to this machine! I'm really stressed about this. I paid far more for this than I would have for a Windows machine simply because I had heard that Apple machines don't do this sort of thing!!
Please tell me that this is normal and expected with a new machine and not a harbinger of more complicated problems to come!! I'm hoping that once resolved, I won't much more of this.. On the other hand, if many of you feel that this issue is a bad omen, I'll take the machine back while I still can. ..What a pity though, it's truly been a joy to use so far.

Deleting AOL Mail, crashes Safari (Consolidation)
It seems the most recent Safari, and or 10.4.4, update has created this problem.
Apple & AOL are both aware of this, but, as far as I know, no correction has been implemented.
Here are some of the work arounds, that I have been able to discern from the various posts regarding this issue.
Use the FIREFOX BROWSER.
Use your AOL Mail program.
Use this utility AOL SERVICES ASSISTANT, to set up Apple Mail, to access AOL Mail.
Access the AOL Mail thru Classic AOL Webmail.

I recommend that instead of working on an iPad application you get a good web programmer in and set up a web-facing system that can be used from anything with a web browser -- an iPad, a smartphone, a laptop or a desktop. Then your employees can access the system from any computer with a web browser, and you don't need to employ an expensive specialist programmer to produce a system which is useless for devices made by other manufacturers. The only requirement for use will be that your devices must in range of either WiFi or a phone signal.
It will also mean that if you need to change your software at any time you only have to change one copy, back at headquarters, rather than update an App on every individual iPad.
Apple's web browsers (including the ones built into iDevices) allow a web site to request the user's location, so people using an iPad should be able to do the things you have asked for.

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.

I try to explain it clearly since my English not good
when I using Ipad to search with some app like PDF expert. I can search words if I only type one single words or I type more than one words but these words are continuous in one sentence. Example like this
In this case. I type "and for the", and I got the result, because these three words are contiunuous in one sentence
But if I type words that not continuous but seperated in the file like this one. I don't get any result.
So, I'm looking for an app that read pdf and can search multiple words at same time. Like what preview does in the mac

Yes, PDFPen for the Mac does do multiple word searching. I just tried it using this example:
I searched the iPad User Guide for "switch control". It only found those two words together.
Next, I searched for "switch". It found additional occurrences.
I did find, however, that I was required to place the two words "switch control" inside double quotes to find the two words together (and only that string).
UPDATE: Oops, sorry, the above statemant about the double quotes being required is false. Sorry, I used Preview by accident when I wrote that.
Indeed, PDFPen works just as you seem to want ... searching for "switch control" (without quotes in the search string) finds only those two words together.
UPDATE 2: Oops ... it sounds like this is just exactly the opposite of what you want. You are looking for something that, when searching for "switch control", finds all occurrences of "switch" and all occurrences of "control". If that is right, PDFPen won't help you.

Looking for a site that shows problems with windows patches or updates...so I know what not to install.
Plenty of sites list and summarize individual patches, I want one that consolidates problems and complaints so I can better assess the risk. Currently I'm waiting to install patches several days and doing google searches. That works, but I'd rather find a place
that does it with expertise.
Which forums would be best to look for such problems.

Windows update helps to keep your PC safer—and your software current—by fetching the latest security and feature updates from Microsoft via the Internet.
Although there might be some problems when installing it, Windows update is not the one to blame.

My itouch has 8 Gb of RAM and I am looking for an app that will allow me to store a PDF document in memory and read it off line as there are times when I do not have access to WiFi. I can email myself the document but I am off line, I don't think that the inbox is an off line folder from which an attachment can be viewed off line, right? Therefore the reason I am looking for the ability to save and read off line.

No, incorrect. The inbox is an *off line* folder, just as it is on a computer. Once you download the email from the server, it is in your iPod/computer and you can access it when you like.

Ok, you need to clean uninstall Palm desktop 6.2. Install Palm desktop 4.1.4 and download and install documents to go version 6.
Here are the clean uninstall instructioins for Vista.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
PalmOne
C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. Use the username that is on the handheld.
