Looking For A Manual ... Any Ideas Out There
I foolishly bought FCE 4 a couple of days back and I can do nothing with it. Big mistake! Even getting clips into the application from DV tape is not straight forward.
Making movies in FCE looks like a major undertaking. Its certainly not instantly intuitive like iMovie 06, which I have enjoyed for several years.
With nothing so far on Lynda.com for FCE 4, I wonder if there is a manual or book somebody can recommend.

It gets most people like that as it is totally unfamiliar and at first sight looks an impossible task.
However, if you get one of the books David recommended you will be guided step by step through the basic processes ........ and then on to the complex ones!
Forget about making an important video for a few weeks while you are learning. If you do have to make one it might be better using iMovie.

I've been using iMovie for a while now to make movies out of mostly travel photos and video clips. I try to vary the time for the photos from 1-4 sec., although most of them are 1-2 seconds so as to keep it short. A friend of mine who saw my most recent product said that this is too short. Any ideas out there?
I apologize for my confusion on your question. I find that depending on the principal of each photo and my target audience to determine the time frame for each photo. It seems most people get impatient with viewing one photo for more than 1-2 seconds if the photo is not complex.
If there are several things that interests the viewers in any one image, they want to look at it a second or two longer. If the movie of images is a training aid, the images may need to be more than 3 seconds. For intro's, or a trailer for a training movie, no longer than 1-2 seconds.
That was a long answer to say, generally speaking, I find 3 seconds to be an average time length. -
I am unable to sync my old Itunes library to the IMac I purchased last month, I tunes wants to erase the old library except for the ITunes I have purchased. Any ideas out there?
- You can only syncewith one iTunes library. It sounds like you change libraries such as changing the computer.

I restored my ipod touch however the apps will not sync. I tried to re-download but I changed my apple id as my old id is no longer a valid email address. Any ideas out there please?
It might be logical to someone, but not to me. I agree it's a pain.
How did you change your Apple ID? Creating a new one is not what you want to do, but if you changed the ID associated with your purchases then that might have worked. You would need to sign in with the Apple ID on both your iPod Touch as well as in iTunes. I'm not sure how you changed it but clearly they need to match.

It will send an email confirmation to the email address associated with that Apple ID. The email address you elect to use might not look anything like your Apple ID. If you don't appear to get an email check your spam filter. -

I am having the same problem. Last night during a long call using headphones, suddenly I could not be heard, but I could hear the person I was talking to. I did not try the speaker. This morning with out the headphone twice I placed a call and heard no ringing, but the call did connect as I was told they got the call, but no one was there. I just reset the phone and will see what happens. I was thinking of going to the Apple store were I got the phone, but if they are going to ship it off rather than exchnage it, that is a no go for me at this point.

I am about to go get my 4th iphone 4s since November! Up in the left corner where it shows your signal strength, it goes into searching mode and stays there. Kills my battery. While in searching, no calls can be made/recieved, no internet, etc. This one has lasted the longest-I got it December 23. Any ideas out there?
Both. The first two, I did use my itunes. The guy at the apple store said that could be the problem. The last time they gave me a new phone and SIM card, and the tech said it wouldnt be the itunes. Just to be safe, I never connected this phone to the itunes until last night-after it started searching- to save everything since I'm sure they will be replacing the phone today. But hey, thanks for the suggestions. I'm about at my wits end with Apple!! Especially since i added a third line to my account just so I could get an iphone back.

Since downloading Iphoto 11 onto our desktop computer we now cannot import the photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15 into Iphoto. However I can import them from the camera onto my Macbook which is still running Iphoto 9.
When I connect the camera and IPhoto loads, the spinning wheel just keeps on spinning and nothing happens, I have to Force Quit Iphoto to get out of the program. Totally frustrated, it would seem that it is an Iphoto 11 software problem. Any suggestions out there?

not sure what happens here right now, I didn't mean to be offensive. So please let's stay calm. There are some issues with Panasonics described in these threads, and they do sound similar to the issue I'm facing (somewhat hard to say, as a) these people do not use exactly the same camera as I do and b) the descriptions of their problems are not very detailed). I would retract the term "a LOT of issues". Sorry.

but then the discussion there stopped. Since we were still able to import images manually into iPhoto (and took care of leaving out already imported pictures ourselves), we could live with this as a workaround.
Since everything worked well recently on my machine with the latest iPhoto version, I decided to upgrade iPhoto on my wife's Mac (where the import problems occured) from '09 to latest '11 (9.2.1). However, after that iPhoto still could not import from the Panasonic's SD card (rotating ball when inserting the card reader, and rotating ball after starting up iPhoto afterwards even w/o card reader plugged in, until the next reboot). So I re-built iPhoto's database (32000 images - 12 hours). Didn't help either. It worked however with a Casio Z-1000's SD card. Thus I re-formatted the Panasonic card yesterday and it seems to work since then.
My point is that I consider it weird that a SD card works with one Mac and doesn't work with another, although both use the same version of OS X and iPhoto. And, I'm somewhat doubtfull that re-formatting the card will solve this issue permanently. I believe that I tried to re-format the card already back in September, when I dealt with the issue for the first time, but I have no prove of that.
I will keep an eye on it and will report here if the problem comes up again.

When in Itunes the Genuis recomentations do not refresh at all ever since i installed the new version of Itunes. The same two songs and the same 5 cd cover have been there and do not change like the did before. I do like using it for new music that I may not have heard before. Any clues? Thanks.
I agree... I am trying not to whine... but be helpful to others if they experience the same while get input before I make the decision to return (which I am leaning towards)… It’s still a great phone – but I expected something different. I also have been coming the internet and forums to see what other people think as well to make sure I am not being oversensitive about it. $300 for a 16gb is not buyers remorse kicking in… it’s just I am not sure if I see much of a difference from my perfectly good (8month old) iPhone 1st generation…
But yes… if all iPhone 3G were problematic it would be in the news… so I err on the side that I may be a unique situation or simply did not make a well informed decision when going to 3G.
Still… the idea of turning 3G off to get a full day of use out of an iPhone… even moderate use that most of us would expect w/o charging midway or multiple times is a bit much to swallow.
I don’t want to bash and just looking for peoples reaction. I still really like Apple and the iPhone in general. -
Everytime I hit return, my MBP is adding a 0. If I use shift, it adds a bracket ). No idea why this has happened, but it's **** annoying. Any ideas for a fix?

Our company has recently changed our DNS settings for our network mail server, and upgraded our SBS to 2010 Microsoft Exchange. Since that change, most of our iPhone users have not been able to acquire e-mail from our mail server. We have three exceptions are 3GS and 4 phones. Any ideas???
Speak to your exchange & DNS administrators at your company.
It is likely a configuration issue on the server/network side. Event/IIS logs are key on your SBS. -
I just upgraded my ibook g4 to 10.5.8. Now it can't locate or display my iphotos. I'd sure appreciate any ideas on how I can make the beast happy, and get to see my pictures again.

I cannot enable Photostream on my iBook though it's active on my iPad - any ideas?
If your iBook supports Mt. Lion and iCloud and you are correctly signed in to the same iCloud account on your iBook that the iPad is signed into try the following:
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.
NOTE: You mention iBook in your post but your profile indicates MacBook. Which is it an is it running Mt. Lion?

My iPhone baffles me. It started doing this and I was told it was the battery, so I replaced the battery. Nope, same issues. Here they are. After a full charge which takes only about an hour, it rapidly loses power after another hour or so. While in my apps, I can keep them open for maybe 2 minutes and they shut down. When I do the double tap to see whats running, the apps I opened are, however they are't. Wierd stuff here folks I hope someone has had this before and can help me out. I don't have a job and cant' afford a new phone.
thanks for help in advance.Double-tapping the home button does not show apps that are running. This is not a task manager, it is merely a list of recently used/accessed apps.
Basic troubleshooting of the device is reset, restart, restore. Has a reset or restore been tried?
Check to see if updates exists for the apps, this could be a simple issue of a badly coded or buggy app that needs to be updated. -

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Installing Airport extreme to extend existing wireless system. I have airport Utility current. after getting to the point of extending the system it tells me there was an error and please retry. I am using my IPad and I phone with the utility and both don't work. I have internet via hard wire thru the AEBS and it does see the wireless signal but the big I shows up and the light still flashes amber. ( I am using an HP lap top and linksys router is main wireless station). Working on this most of the day, any help?
Please describe the changes you made in detail.. it is terribly hard to fix network issues remotely with vague general comments.
Was the TC, main router, bridged, connected via ethernet or joined to the wireless network???
What is the main router now..?? What is the wireless?
Do you have a direct connection to the TC by ethernet.. ?? If not you need one for setup.. plug ethernet to a laptop is easiest or remove the TC from the network and just plug it into the computer.. press and hold the reset for 10sec to get access.
Lion is hopeless network wise.. and you need to download the proper airport utility 5.6 before you attempt this.. so connect up by ethernet to the main router.. whatever that is and download the stuff you need before you begin.
