Looking for a quiet Laserjet

Hi,
I am looking for a quiet mono laser printer.
The only specific requirements are it has a NIC, can print around 30ppm and can print duplex.   Can anyone suggest a model and advise what the decibel noise level is when printing?   When going through the HP website some models had a datasheet with this information and others didn't.
Thanks!!

Bobb, I checked with Maxtor on this sleep issue. The support person told me that the unit is supposed to just run. Period. Of course, you can unmount the drive and then unplug it or turn it off, but from what he told me there is no way to make it sleep when the Mac does.
I also have a LaCie drive and it sleeps just fine.
On the other hand, the hard drives in servers, Tivos or similar devices that need to be on 24/7, do it year in and year out.
The noise, though, can drive one a bit crazy.

  • Looking for a quiet, sleepy drive

Any suggestions for a quiet external drive for the Mini, that will go to sleep when the Mini does? I am about to return a Maxtor OneTouch II that I found to be noisy (louder than the Mini, for sure) and which unfortunately refuses to sleep when the Mini does.
For anyone who has a OneTouch: I was surprised at the loudness of this drive (it sounds like a constant fan noise), after reading how quiet others found it. I was also surprised that it won't sleep when the Mini does - it spins down, but then immediatly spins up again. Maybe I got a bad unit?
Sorry for posting yet another 'which disk to buy' thread

  • Looking for printer Lexmark E250dn

Mac book pro and Imac connected wirelessly to AE. Sending file to printer is increasingly frequently met with " Looking for printer". Unplugging the AE power to reset always fixes the problem. It lasts for a few jobs, then stops working again. Latest firmware/OS/drivers.
Tried all the usual ( reset AE/Printers/reinstalled printer (Bonjour))
It seems to be happening with increasing frequency(daily)
Any help will save my few remaining grey hairs...

I have the same problem every time I print something in the print queue it says "Looking for hp color LaserJet 4600 (0001E6A2A8ED)" Most of the time it eventually finds it and prints but sometimes it either takes a really long time 10min+ or doesn't find it at all. The printer is networked to my computer thru ethernet the computer and printer are plugged into a linksys switch and the printer has a static ip address. I never had this problem before upgrading to Leopard.

  • Computer keeps "Looking for Printer"

Each time I print, the next time I print a document, it shows in the printer dialog box, "Looking for Lexmark E250dn". If I remove the printer, then add it again, I can print one time, and then on the next job, I get the same error.
What up? Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

  • Looking for a new quiet power supply, what do you recommend?

the current power supply rip was an antec 480 truepower. It was ok but I'm looking for an ultra quiet supply, hope to here your recommendations. TIA.

Jason, I think he would have some trouble getting them shipped to Australia from one of those stores. Beside that it would be less from newegg, look at the additional 20% off promo and free shipping. For me it's 3 days from order to delivery from ZZf and newegg.
Yes, one of the Corsairs but not HX but as mentioned TX or VX, also PC P&C 610. Ignore watts, go by +12V amps and as FP mentioned consider future need for more power when choosing. Nowdays the VX450W (+12V~33A) would be considered minimum to get and also would be considered weak for many current systems.

  • Looking for Thunderbolt 2 RAID Array options that can match the new Mac Pro's quietness -- or at least come close!

Maybe it is too early to talk about anything beyond the Pegasus2 Series (http://www.promise.com/promotion_page/promotion_page.aspx?region=en-global&rsn=1 00) when it comes to Tunderbolt 2 storage options. Looking for something on the order of 8 to 12 usable TB of redundant storage or possibly a JBOD option of 4 bays. This is coming close but I do not think it is Thunderbolt 2 (http://www.g-technology.com/products/g-raid-thunderbolt).
Either way -- looking for users experience not only on usable Thunderbolt 2 solutions but more importantly noisiness. I want to upgrade my existing Mac Pro to one of the new ones and I have found the old one to be nearly unnoticable in a quiet desktop environment. Would love to find the same peace and quiet when migrating to the new form factor that is going to need external storage to match what I have been used to inside the old Mac Pro.

Not your quiet storage, but then I would put it in a cool closet or small room off to the side :-)
http://www.macgurus.com/store/Item/ARC8050 ( I was assuming but maybe not, that it would support RAID6 which is always preferable for larger arrays. Seems to have most features you want for 8 drives). MacGurus "Burly" are never quiet but they are rugged and well tested.
Migrating storage will be a concern. I don't like the noise from my older SATA OWC dual-drive metal enclosure though suppose to be 'acceptable' unless they have improved the fans they are out for me.
    OWC for Thunderbolt products.
Helios enclosure (the new dual-slot Helios PCIe chassis)
… moving various hard drives into Thunderbolt cases
    USB3 hard drive enclosure.
For those without eSATA enclosures, a simple eSATA to USB3 adapter might do the trick.
USB3 is plenty fast to house two hard drives.

  • How do I stop mavericks from looking for an old server and nagging me that it can't find it?

MacBook Air running OS X 10.9.4
Had it set up to connect to my main iMac for shared files.  Wife complained that when my iMac wasn't on the MacBook constantly nagged her with a message saying it couldn't connect to the server (my iMac).
Removed sharing on my iMac.  Removed recent server list from the MacBook Air.  Removed my iMac from the finder side bar in the MacBook.  Now the MacBook Air constantly naggs us that it can't find the server (name of my iMac).  I just want the @#$@# thing to shut up, quit looking for the iMac and be quiet.
Need help as I can't figure this one out.
    PLEASE!!

There are many possible causes for this issue, and it may be hard to resolve. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
If you get the alert in the login screen before you log in, stop here and ask for instructions.
    Step 1
If you get the alert as soon as you log in, it's probably caused by one of your login items or by software that otherwise loads at startup or login. Ask if you need help identifying it. A known offender is "AdobeResourceSynchronizer," which is a component of some Adobe products. See also this discussion.
    Step 2
If there's an icon representing the server in the sidebar of a Finder window, hold down the command key and drag it out.
    Step 3
In the Finder, press the key combination command-K or select
              Go ▹ Go to Server...
from the menu bar. In the upper right corner of the window that opens is a Recent Servers popup menu represented by a clock icon. From that menu, select
              Clear Recent Servers…
    and confirm. Test.
    Step 4
Open the Printers & Scanners pane in System Preferences and delete any network devices you no longer use.
    Step 5
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing  command-C:
    ~/Library/PDF Services
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, move the contents to the Desktop, or to a new folder on the Desktop. Log out and log back in. Test. If there's no change, put the items you moved back where they were and continue.
    Step 6
    Open the folder
    ~/Library/Preferences
as in Step 5 and move the file named "loginwindow.plist" items in that folder to the Trash, if it exists (it may not.)
Log out and back in again, and test.
    Step 7
Other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application.
    Try rebuilding the iPhoto library.
    Step 8
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up. Start up in safe mode. Test. After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Step 9
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Directory Utility.app
Rght-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* The application Directory Utility will open.
In the Directory Utility window, select the Directory Editor tool in the toolbar. Select Mounts from the Viewing menu in the toolbar, and/Local/Default from the node menu, if not already selected. On the right is a list of names and values. By default, the list is empty. If it's not empty, post a screenshot of the window and stop here.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
    Step 10
Open the following file as you did in the last step:
    /etc/auto_master
It will open in a TextEdit window. The contents should be exactly this:
    # Automounter master map
    +auto_master          # Use directory service
    /net               -hosts          -nobrowse,hidefromfinder,nosuid
    /home               auto_home     -nobrowse,hidefromfinder
    /Network/Servers     -fstab
    /-               -static
If there are any other lines in the window, post them. Otherwise, close the window.

  • Looking for an All-In-One Printer Rec. with Mac

    Hello,
I'm looking for a Color Laser All-In-One printer, with ADF and Networking capability for under $600. Any recommendations of printers that work well with Mac? I know the HP's are good, but my concern is with their software. I've had nightmare experiences with them.
    Thanks!

  • Looking for a better heatsink help....K8N NEO2

Im looking for a better heatsink....any suggestions? I may oc it but for now I wont....it idles at 40-41 and stays at 60 when im gaming 58 if i turn off cool n quiet.....and thats with some ocz ultra5 Thermal compund....ThX

Yes, agree with SAB, zalman 7000 is a good one, however I´ve got 2 very simular K8N Neo2-systems but with 2 different cpu coolers.
One with zalman 7000alcu and one with Thermalright XP-90 and a zalman 92mm fan ( you can use what ever 80/92mm fan you like high speed, low speed, led colored, etc).
Both are equal regarding cooling to my experience, but I prefered the XP-90 because I did not have to remove the backplate ( I think zalman recommends mounting it´s own backplate to get the right distance/pressure between the cooler and cpu ).
With the XP-90 you just switch the retension mechanism which is easy ( even with the MoBo in the case ).

  • Looking for recommendations for a good small color laser printer

My trusty Canon inkjet is on its last legs and I am considering getting a color laser printer.
I need it to have ethernet so all computers on my home LAN can print to it.
I am currently looking at the Samsung CPL-315W and the HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni Printer.
Pros: Samsung is smaller than the HP
    Samsung toner is cheaper
HP print quality is rumored to be better
    Cons:
Samsung toner is more difficult to find locally
HP printer is more expensive ($309 compared to $199)
If you have any advice or experience with these printers, I would appreciate it.

    hi cejones,
Did you end up finding a printer?
I'm looking as well. I have the Samsung clp-510 and while it's very reliable, the UI for mac is terrible. So terrible in fact that I still have it connected to a PC b/c their UI is much better for controlling colour etc..
i'm looking for a wireless solution.

  • Cannot load a FAx driver for a Hp Laserjet 1536dnf MFP on a HP Pavilion Elite e9220y Computer

I cannot find a fax driver for this printer to install on my computer.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer a couple of times It will print and scan but not fax.
I reinstalled fron the orignal disk and off the HP website neither get me fax capablilites.
I have gone to support and cannot find the drive on eith er the printer or computers web page at HP.Com
Please let me know what to do.

    Hi @thesaneone4 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the fax driver not installing. I would be happy to help you.
Check the connections in the Device Manager for any printer entries, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers look for Fax LEDM or any unknown devices. Right click and try to update the driver. How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
In the Devices and Printers window, what icons do you have for the printer showing?
If you are still having issues, you will need to uninstall the printer software from the CD and unlock the hidden Admin Account when installing the printer software, to make sure there isn't any interference.
    Disconnect the USB cable.
Uninstall the software by going to Start, Computer, right click on the CD and open it, then double click on uninstall.
Then download and run the latest software. HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer.
Unlock Hidden Administrator Account and install the printer on this account:
Go to your Start menu and under the 'search programs and files' box type CMD.
CMD will populate as a search option above, just right click on it and 'run as administrator'.
Once CMD (Command Prompt) opens, type net user administrator /active:yes and hit enter.
Next, close CMD and restart your computer.
When your computer comes on log into the new account that should show. It will be called Administrator and will not have a password on it.
If your computer automatically logs into your account after restart than go to your start menu click the arrow beside 'shutdown' and choose 'switch user'. Now log into the Administrator account we just unlocked.
Under the Administrator account, install the printer software.
    Test the printer.
To turn off the Admin account start back at step 1 and type in net user administrator /active:no.
Please let me know the outcome.
    Have a nice day!

  • Looking for laser printer recommendations (please read!)

I couldn't find a spot that fit this question and although I may not receive any answers here, this is a very active forum with members who are unafraid of new technology, so here's letting one rip...
OK, I've not had a laser printer in a number of years - when my beloved LaserWriter II NTX gave up the ghost. I find that I am lately, however, printing more and more text-only or text-heavy documents at home and going through black ink cartridges like a hungry lumberman through flapjacks. Although I've not looked into laser technology for years, I am wondering if it may not be more economical to print these pages on a 'personal' laser printer (I know that toner cartridges are not cheap, either, but they are less expensive, from what I've read, than using inkjet to print text-heavy documents) than to continue racking up rebate dollars by selling my soul for black ink cartridges.
So I am looking for a laser printer that can handle about 2,500-4,000 pages a month AND (here's the kicker!) have automatic duplex printing capabilities... I've never had this ability on a laser printer but I understand it's available on some models these days.
I'm not looking for an 'office capable' printer - maybe more like a 'small office'? No real need for Ethernet, yet, if it's a standard feature, I would certainly use it. A small footprint would be nice.
As I wander into the local Office Depot I am overwhelmed by the choices and yet stupefied to find that the 'hang tags' on many of the models don't really give too much information - page one can expect from a cartridge, connectivity options, duplexing capabilities (I seem to find none, yet am certain that I've read of their existence).
    So my criteria:
    1. monochrome
    2. PostScript emulation (unless CUPS supports lasers? It'd difficult to tell by the ad hype yet Apple does seem to have drivers or, at least, Brother and HP laser printers). I don't want to be limited to 72 typefaces...
    3. automated duplexing
    4. small footprint
    5. more economical to operate than an inkjet at 2,500-4000 pages per month
    6. networkable, though served through another CPU via USB is fine
    7. brand is not important - as long as reliability is high (and, like Brother, for instance, is supported by Apple)
Please leave a message if you should have ANY suggestions or, if you can point me towards a website with a good overview of what's available (and with actual tests would even be better!) I would be very appreciative.

    Jamie,
I just wanted to thank you once again for your suggestion of the HP LaserJet 1320. I picked one up last week at Office Depot and, after I receive my $50 mail-in rebate, my total cost will have been $139.99!
The printer itself had an 'instant savings' of $100 off the SRP of $399.99 (and - for those who might be interested - this instant savings continues until June 30 - see the HP website for details.), bring it down to $299.99; I had an $100 Office Depot 'rewards' card plus a $10 'instant off' coupon from the previous week, bringing it down to $189.99 and there was a mail-in rebate for $50 (which, according to the paperwork, I can expect within 6 weeks) so... I was able to get a $400 printer for less than $140 (+ tax, of course).
Still, even with $14 tax, I have to assume that I would have paid at least as much in shipping AND I only had to drive for less than 5 miles, spend 20 minutes explaining why I did not want or need either the extended warranty or the Super Special Laser Printer Official Office Depot Very Special Customer Service Box (a cable, some paper, and a few other doodads for $60) and now I've printed a couple of hundred sheets and love the thing.
Had it not been for your recommendation, I likely would have forgotten the $100 Office Depot card until it expired and would not have sought out the printer there in the first place.
It's such a warm and fuzzy feeling to get such a deal on such a terrific little printer... and, so, I thank you, again.

  • HT4356 I checked everything out and had no problem printing from IPAD/MINI using the HP Photosmart 6520 printer, but the next day, using same application, my HP did not show, but was looking for the AirPrint Printer, what am I doing wrong?

Using IPAD2, IPAD MINi, HP photosmartE6520 set up on wireless network.  No problem printing from my devices, but the following day, it is looking for AirPrint printer, why?

    Hello lenc48,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a few issues when it comes to printing from your mac as well as some two sided printing issues.
I do have a some suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Please remove the usb cable (if using wireless, disregard this step) from the printer and from the Mac and leave it disconnected until further notice.
Please click on the first link that will give you instructions on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once the software has been removed, please disable any anti virus protection that you may have on the Mac.
The next step we are going to take is downloading the HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
The installation will prompt you when to connect the usb cable (You will see a prompt for a wireless connection as well if that is the connection type you would like to use) so please do not connect the cable until prompted to do so.
If you are still having issues, feel free to write me back or you can contact HP Total care direct.  If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.
